Information on Moving to and Living in Colorado Springs

Within the Colorado Springs city limits, there are over 20 U-Haul locations with a knowledgeable staff and all the services and supplies you may need for your move.

  • Elevation – Due to the high elevation, it is much easier for you to become winded if you are not used to it. Throw in the dry air, and it also means its easier to get dehydrated and sunburned. Take this into your moving plans; taking those moving boxes up a few steps can be much more taxing than you expect. Because of the high altitude, sealed and bottled items are under pressure. Be careful when you open them or you may get sprayed in the face!
  • Winter Weather – The best times to move are during summer and early fall, in order to avoid snowfall. Snow can start as early as October and last until April. However, winters are mild, and generally the snow will melt by the next day due to the dry air. On top of that, the city’s Street Divisions are prepared for snowstorms to keep the roads clear. However, this does mean the roads are constantly covered in melting snow; make sure your vehicles are well equipped to handle the weather.
  • Neighborhoods – Whether you’re looking for historic homes with character or new construction in a diverse neighborhood, Colorado Springs offers many different options to future and potential residents. For those military personnel changing duty stations, the Fountain Valley is within close proximity to Fort Carson. The Old Colorado Historic District has been revitalized and contains a variety of older homes as well as a lively nightlife. With convenience in mind, the Powers area has close access to downtown Colorado Springs and many amenities nearby. For newer homes, check out Briargate in Northeast Colorado Springs. With reasonably priced homes and great schools nearby, this can be a great area to bring your family. These are only a few of many options in the city, but these are some good places to start.
