Tips for Moving and Living in Raleigh, North Carolina

With more than 20 U-Haul truck rental facilities and over 35 MovingHelpers® in Raleigh, we are dedicated to helping you make a smooth move into the city. Here are some tips to help once you get settled into your new home.

  • Raleigh Beltline – Interstate 440, also known as the Raleigh Beltline and Cliff Benson Beltline, provides a partial loop of transportation around downtown Raleigh. “Inside the Beltline” refers to anything within the beltline to Downtown. Take a drive, get familiar with the roadways, and explore the town.
  • Toll roads – The Triangle Expressway, also known as TriEx, opened in 2011 as the first modern toll road in North Carolina. Unlike most toll roads, the TriEx does not use toll booths but gathers fares through electronic toll collection via license plate. If you plan to use the TriEx frequently, it may be a good idea to consider a NC Quick Pass. With a NC Quick Pass, you will get a discounted rate, and the time savings just may be worth the cost.
  • Career Opportunities – Recognized as one of the best places to work or start a business, residents have a wide variety of industries to choose from, ranging from government to health care. Home to some of the world’s largest corporations and promising start-ups, the nearby Research Triangle Park is a hub for high-tech research and development. Not to mention, within close proximity are three world-class research universities. Whether you are searching for a job or pursuing a higher education, the opportunities are abundant.
  • Licensing and Registration – The state of North Carolina allows new residents 30 days to register vehicles and 60 days to apply for a NC driver’s license. We suggest taking a trip to the DMV once you get settled in.
