Everything is Better in Boise – Moving Tips and Services

Boise is the most populated city in Idaho, as well the third most populated metropolitan area in the Pacific Northwest region of the US, just behind Seattle and Portland. The Treasure Valley has many great things to offer, such as safe neighborhoods, top-ranked career availability and a chance to learn about the city’s Basque heritage. Additionally, you’ll be able to experience all four distinct seasons. Temperatures can exceed 100 degree Fahrenheit during the summer while winter can have subzero temperatures. Don’t worry about the heat too much; there are over 3,000 miles of rivers to enjoy – that is more than any other state! In the cold, you can hit the slopes at Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area for some winter sports. Then there’s all the beauty of spring and fall with blossoming flowers or leaves of all shades fluttering around. If you decided to move to this fantastic city, U-Haul has got you covered for all your moving needs.

Helpful Information for Moving to Boise

The Treasure Valley has so much to offer, but moving to Boise takes proper planning. That’s why U-Haul offers over a dozen rental locations and tips specific to the area.

  • City to City Distance – Although Boise is central to many outdoor activities, other large cities will take a bit longer to reach. Due to the location and spread out nature of the west, it can take anywhere from 5 to 12 hours to visit the large cities of Idaho’s neighboring states. However, with Interstate 84, you’ll have a convenient route to get to either Salt Lake City or Portland.
  • Know Your Neighborhood – Boise contains several diverse neighborhoods, including Downtown Boise, the North End, Southwest Boise, Warm Springs/East End, the Boise Bench, and a few others. If you prefer an area with a historic, older feel and a family-friendly community, the North End is just the place. For a more diverse selection of homes, head over to the Boise Bench. Whether you are looking to live in a more expensive Victorian style home in Warm Springs or in a newer suburban community in Southeast Boise, the city has a wide range of options.
  • Beware of Bombers – Yarn bombers, that is. Although paint and chalk tend to be more ordinary types of graffiti, it is more common to see the acts of yarn bombers in Boise. The crocheting act initially began as a way to reclaim public places; however, street artists now have their own agendas. Don’t be surprised if you’re the victim of knitted yarn.
  • Fitting In – Boise has its fair share of quirks. Boise natives and longtime residents pronounce the city’s name BOY-see, while outsiders and newcomers tend to pronounce the city's name as BOY-zee.
