This was a great experience. Very convenient and an easy process. I would love, however, for the rate per mile to go down as it ends up costing a huge amount., even to move something locally.

The initial mileage recorded was wrong but I was not told to check and confirm it. I discussed where I would be going and the representative assumed maybe 20 miles. When I returned I was charged for over 75 miles, despite the obvious error, given that it was an in town move from one house to another that is less than 2 miles each way. I was told there was nothing to be done. I will not be renting from UHaul again.

The truck was dirty/dusty when I got it in Sebastopol but not enough for me to stop and sweep it or complain. I folded all 6 pads for return at the Oakland location, but then I was charged $25 for not having cleaned the truck even though I returned it as I received it. I also wouldn't have left without any equipment if I didn't stop to double check before I left with the truck. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is that the receptionist was nice/efficient. Next time I will take before/after pictures so I don't get scammed by Uhaul...

The horrible location was on santa rosa avenue which is where I had my initial experience and even upon arrival i stood in front of employees with no one in the store waiting for 15 minutes before I had to say can I rent a truck....

Customer service was lacking. No one acknowledged I was there and served customers prior to helping me, who walked in after I did.

The attendant jumped up into the Uhaul to check the mileage without waiting for my wife and dog to evacuate the vehicle. If my wife hadn't pulled my dog aside quickly, the attendant would have been most likely attacked by our dog who would have been protecting my pregnant wife. Next time, the attendant should ask or wait for us to fully evacuate before immediately jumping into the vehicle.

The driver rear view mirror was cracked in several places (when I pointed it out they said "Don't worry about it"), the tire pressure sensors didn't work (when I pointed it out they said "Those things never work"), it was a quart low on oil, the van was very dirty inside and no one seemed to understand U-Haul's computer program (they couldn't give me an exact amount for the time I wanted to rent the van). The Rental Place is very good at renting other equipment but U-Hauls, not so much.

The workers lost the keys to our uhaul resulting in our uhaul pick up to be very complicated trying to figure out an alternative. When he finally found the keys, it was hours after our original pick up making our drive home out of town very late. He did at least call us when he found the key. Uhaul customer service was very nice but some of the employees didn't know what vehicles were available for one way or in town. Nobody communicated and I had to explain my story multiple times to different people. Very frustrating experience.

When picking up the U-Haul, the person didn't verify estimated miles and never asked me my moving address while setting up the contract. His estimate was $90 and I still don't know why because it ended up being $65 and usually the estimate is pretty close to the end price. Then, when he gave me the contract, he didn't give me the green slip proving that I purchased the insurance which is supposed to be put on the contract, nor did he walk me to the vehicle to verify milage and gas. I couldn't find on the contract anywhere beginning milage to verify for my own comfort. He didn't sign any of the contracts like he's supposed to, not did he tell me that there would be a significant fuel charge if I didn't bring it with the same amount of fuel. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. I wouldn't have known about it except I read the contract and it's on the contract. He just gave me the contract and said "the keys are in it." Then, when I got in the van, there was a MASSIVE cobweb in the cab, as if the van had been sitting for 3 months. When I came back, the person behind the counter told me to give the keys to "one of the guys out there." I went out there and they were just looking at me when I said that I was returning a U-Haul. They told me to come inside and talk to the woman. I told them what the woman behind the counter said. They just took the key and walked away. He DIDN'T tell me that he was going to check the milage and gas and it would be a few minutes then until I got a receipt. He took the numbers and disappeared WITHOUT telling me that the woman was going to enter them in the computer then give me my receipt. I was standing there left to assume he was going to reappear, but he never did. There was no clear communication between the staff and the customer and a lot of steps (like walking the customer through the estimate of the contract, putting the green slip on the contract, walking the customer to the vehicle, verifying milage and gas, and informing the customer.If the fuel charge) were skipped that are part of the U-Haul policies. I would never rent a U-Haul from them again, nor would I recommend them.
