After having a true NIGHTMARE experience using the poorly functioning U-Haul on line app at the Fairview Avenue location. I was rescued by Rich in Chatham location. He saved the day.
The app approval experience was poor. It took 25 minutes for someone to approve my rental using my smartphone. It was unclear when registering that the rental location would be of little help when choosing the digital experience.
Make sure when a truck is reserved for a particular location , make sure the truck is at that location. My location was changed and I had to drive a 3-hour round trip to get my truck and equipment.
Next time, do not tell me to go to Chatham, then to Hudson, then to Lee, then back to Chatham. Worst experience ever
I showed up after hours to drop off my UHAUL equipment and there happened to be a Uhaul representative there. He was very helpful with assisting me with maneuvering the truck and dolly to a better parking spot.
Was the truck clean? It hadn't been through a car wash, there was a ( spilled coffee?) stain on the console, Doritos and an empty soft drink can on the floor. I was only allowed to submit one photo. This location closed at 11AM. I began making phone calls to U-Haul shortly before that time to make sure that I would be able to pick up the truck at 2 PM. The original renter was also trying to get answers at the same time. There seemed to be some confusion , as different people at U-Haul gave us different answers. Rich was helpful in giving me the number for Dispatch/traffic control in Albany, NY. Eventually, when I tried to pick up the truck, Kim at that location gave me the access code for the key box after spending almost another hour entering and re-entering my info, numbers, etc. only to have my session expire multiple times and being told they couldn't verify my location (location services on my device were turned on.) I arrived there by 2PM and left there about 3PM. The process was difficult and time was wasted. We were told it would be simple to have an alternate driver pick up the truck for the original renter, who was over four hours away. After I picked up the truck, the contract was in my name. It would be great if you could get all of your personnel on the same page.
Because a truck I rented wasn't available at the location I rented it at customer service set me up with the same truck at a different location over 20 miles away. At that time they agreed to adjust the mileage charge to compensate me for the mileage and inconvenience, I agreed. When I went to pick it up the website charged me the original mileage over double what they had told me. When I spoke to someone at the site he informed me that is the way it was because he was the only U-Haul place around and the he owned the other 2 they were locale. He also informed me I could not leave a vehicle while I had the truck. Even though he may be the only game in town I am searching other places because I have to move again in about 12 weeks this was a temporary move while we renovate our own home, I do not want that experience again.
Tell the dealers charge for parts what's is asking on websites don't charge double they amount

Guy was so nice and helpful. On the phone and in person. This is the way to go when moving. Made it so easy with the ramp and the truck was easy to deal with mechanically. We did our move in half the time we expected. I would definitely come back and work with this Uhaul location again after I experienced how easy it was to rent and deal with the truck.
I can't say enough good things about the owner, Rich (never met him until this rental). Not only is he an all-around nice person, he went above and beyond to make sure I got what I needed. I mistakenly ordered and rolled out of the parking lot with the wrong trailer (my oversight), and when I realized it 20 minutes later, I immediately called Rich. He had already closed for the day but told me not to worry, he had the right trailer for me and I should turn around and come back. This was a hot, humid Saturday and I know he needed to get home, but he greeted me with a smile when I returned. I'm very thankful for his excellent customer service - in a time when more people seem on edge, it's so nice to know there are people like him out there! Thanks, Rich.
Clean up the place.
I was un able to fit the 5'x 10' utv on the 6'x12' trailer because the opening of the gateway was less than 5'. I paid to remt a trailer that was useless to me. The design of the trailer is poor and now I'm out the rental and insurance fees. I'm not a happy customer at all.
Your pricing is very misleading. At advertised $19.95 a day and I only used the van for about four hours and about 80 miles. The final bill was four times more than the $19.95. I would think long and hard before renting again.

The drop-off instructions need to be better and clearer, given that the location is not staffed during even the normal business hours for most establishments. Also, the proprietor attributes to the "system" the recording of the time when the vehicle is officially signed out. However, I know that I did not get off a conference phone call until several minutes after 12:00 and had to use the bathroom and dress before collecting a family member at the house and then driving at least 12 miles . I do not believe for an instant that I managed to get there and give payment authorization by 12:30. Those extra minutes really made a negative difference in getting the truck back in time. I think the "system" must be rather arbitrary - perhaps assigning 12:30 to any time after 12 and before 1:00. This may seem trivial but when mornings are involved, minutes count. The equipment was in relatively clean, in good condition and drove well. It is clear that the proprietor knows vehicles. I am not sure whether I was up-sold a bit because the appliance I was transporting perhaps did not need to stand up in the truck, but it was good to have a ramp. This location is very very very convenient!
Great service. Went the extra mile to make sure everything was safe and secure for towing.
I was charged about $16 for going past a mileage limit..,I was unaware of the limits And I was surprised by the charge. I would have established my mileage needs as part of the contract. I found this frustrating.
This is my third rental from this location. Always the best!!!!
