I don't know why the key for the vehicle was inside the store. I always use self-service pickup and the key is always in the vehicle. I had to go from the back parking lot back to the store and then back, it was a waste of time. Next time I'd like to avoid having to go into the store, since I'm purchasing a self-service pickup.

The people at the store were great. Did their job well. However, Your customer service on the phone is an absolute disgrace. Before I drove over, I called up to see if there was a 10' bed at the Belmont location. A simple yes/no question. It seems like your service people are robots reading from a script. They completely ignored my question to ask for my cell phone and email and another bunch of questions TWICE. Seems like u-haul is more interested in collecting contact info to sell to third parties rather than answering a simple question. Making a Rez over the phone requires my first born- please streamline this process. Please fix this before you are uberized.

I have severe allergy to smoking and smell of cigarette butts. Inside the van smell was so strong that I had to keep my vomiting to when I was leaving the van. Not to mention because I wanted to get out of you van as fast as possible, I was driving most of the time above the speed limit. I really have reservation to do business with a company that doesn’t care about customers. Probably next time I seek another company to do business with.

Have the staff at this location tell clients that are returning trucks to pull forward as far as possible!! I had to park the truck on the street. I wasn't the only one. There was plenty of room in front of the returned vehicles.

The poor rating I gave not to 554 El Camino Real, Belmont, CA 94002 pick up location, but the overall pick up experience that day. The whole story: I reserved the truck early in the morning. Around 6 or 7 am. Because it was the end of the month, no trucks were available in my area. The U-Haul reservation system found one near Manteca which is 75 miles away. It was not a problem since I have a motorcycle that can be easily loaded into the box truck. I also needed an auto transport, but couldn't make a reservation online, so I called the place, and they confirmed they have plenty of auto transport trailers. I arrived at 1190 S Main St, Manteca, CA 95337 at 10 am. There were a lot of customers and only two employees. I waited in the line for 20 minutes just to hear that they never got my reservation and they don't have any available trucks for one way to Los Angeles. I showed the booking confirmation I got in my email. Didn't matter much since they had NO TRUCKS available. The U-Haul manager was helpful thou, he called U-Haul 800 number, and they found a truck in San Jose, which was 70 miles away from origin reservation. And what is even more ridiculous - only 8 miles from my place. When I arrived in San Jose, at 1 pm, I already traveled 130 miles through morning traffic. The parking lot was in the back of a liquor store. The truck was dusty in the cab, dirty windshield with no washer fluid and bad wipers. The owner of this liquor store charged my card and promised to email the paperwork shortly, but never did. So I had to drive around with no proof that I rented it. Because it was already past lunch, I decided to stop by my place to have something to eat, calm down and call U-Haul 800 number to find a trailer. I made the reservation for the trailer around 3 pm, the guy on the other end was very helpful, yet he couldn't locate a one-way auto transport near me. The closest one available was 65 miles away in Dublin, CA Because of what happened in the morning, I didn't move until my reservation WAS CONFIRMED by the text message. It took me 2.5 hours to get there through evening traffic. When I arrived at 6265 Scarlett Crt, Dublin, CA at 5.30 pm, the guy said he doesn't have my trailer. It was like a bad dream! I spent all day hunting down trucks and trailers, even thou I had all reservations. Good thing the guy understood my situation, and he saw how frustrated I was, so he helped best he possibly could: found the trailer, called them and triple checked they have it and it is one-way. And again, the trailer was in Belmont, which is another 2 hours from Dublin, yet only 6 miles from my home. And it was there since the day before! When I finally picked up the trailer in Belmont it was already dark; I spent over 10 hours in SF bay area traffic, drove for nothing 296 miles in total, burned 25 gallons of fuel and had to drive all night to Los Angeles because I couldn't change the arrangements I made earlier. Difficult to find a trailer to transport items from SF Bay Area to Idaho. I drove by a couple U-Haul places with plenty of trailers. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Vehicles could be cleaned better, windshield was so dirty when I picked it up, I almost hit someone coming out of the parking lot, also, no interior lights in truck, could not see to operate in the dark. rear door was very difficult to close and lock. not trying to nitpick but you asked.

I wish you would not charge per miles for local use or give at least some base miles free. I rented the van for only a couple hours and most of the miles and time were the distance from my house to pick up location in Belmont. My actual use was within 1 mile just to pick up an appliance from the store. So about 95% of the miles charged to me were for travel to pick up location. And the van was returned within 2 hours instead of 24 hours. So literally you can still rent it again on the same day. I'm hoping you would give me some credit. Thank you.
