My 2020 Toyota highlander came with a 4-way flat connector but my tent trailer uses a 7-way hookup. Will this allow me to pull my trailer?

Hi, Daniel! 7-Way Spade Type & 4-Way Flat Connector 47185 will carry the 4-flat's turn, brake and running lights with the option to add brake control and battery charge. I hope that is helpful!

I have a 4 flat hook up on my 2001 Tundra (female end). Is this the only piece I would need to convert it to take a 7 way horse trailer hookup (not including breaks). I had been told in the past you could use a converter for a 7 to haul a flat 4 but not the other way around and that I’d have to get my truck re wired with a 7 prong?

–Hayley 5/8/2020 4:43:53 p. m.

Hello, Hayley! This wiring connector 47185 will convert your 4-flat to a 7-way trailer wiring harness. This part also includes mounting bracket and hardware. I hope that is helpful!

My 4 pin is already connected to the battery. Will I need to run another wire from this adapter to the battery?

–Tim 2/14/2020 4:27:22 a. m.

Hi, Tim! Unless you are using it for a brake control, you would not need to run another power wire. I hope that is helpful!

You installed my tow package with a 4-way flat connector. Is this all I need to use a 7-way? Or Will I need additional wiring to utilize the 7-way spade functions such as for braking?

Hi, Kim! You will need additional parts and wiring for electric brake functions. Please visit or contact your local U-Haul Hitch Center for parts and pricing. Thank you!

i need information on how to install this product

–Mosi 3/26/2015 5:15:35 p. m.

After installing the mounting bracket to your desired location, simply plug the 47185 4-flat connector to the vehicles pre-wired 4-flat connector. Ground the 47185 white wire to a clean surface on the vehicles frame. These simple steps will power your trailer turn signals, brake lights and running lights.

You will then be left with 3 wires to attach if applicable:
Black wire - When properly installed the black wire charges the 12 volt trailer battery.
Blue wire - When properly installed the blue wire powers the trailers electric brakes.
Purple wire - The purple wire is typically attached to the vehicles reverse light for releasing a boat trailers lockout brakes.

For more information, please see the instruction sheet by clicking on the PDF at the top of this page labeled 'Installation Instructions' or visit your local U-Haul hitch center. Thank you!
