The purpose of renting a U-Haul was to store items that we needed to move out of our garage for a remodel. We estimated a total of 5 miles for the duration of the rental thinking that would be more than enough since we live 0.6 miles away from the rental center. When I returned the U-Haul the clerk told me that the gas was lower than when I rented it. Instead of it being at the top of the 1/4 tank line, it was at the bottom of the 1/4 line. I drove a total of 3 miles for the length of the reservation. I left and got enough gas, but in the midst, I now exceeded my 5 miles estimate and was charged $301 instead of the estimated $271 because I went over the mileage limit. I will never use this U-Haul service again and hope that no one else will.
The gas level on the contract sent to me did not match the one on the database at the store when I returned it. That's not the fault of the employees, but I did feel kinda hassled when I returned the truck even though I tried showing them the contract I was given. It was eventually sorted out, but it was not a great experience given I was trying to be in the store for as little time as possible due to COVID.
check engine light was on, fuel gauge seemed inconsistent and marked incorrectly on paperwork I received, used 8 miles charged for 10 anyway, long wait lines, DIY everything, no one will inspect vehicle with you when picking up or dropping off, etc etc
As we signed out, the employee said the trailer was clean, but we found it full of dirt/gravel and swept it out. He then checked this on our way out and brought out brooms. I reserved half a dozen blankets and a furniture dolly, none of which were available. Frustrating since we could have gone to another location had we known prior to pick up. If it's not available, it shouldn't be â€œreservableâ€

Robbie's customer service and process speed is excellent. He makes the rental process easy, enjoyable and fast which is very much appreciated.
It seems unfair to have the rental time count from time of reservation and not from actual use of vehicle. I reserved the vehicle for 9am but due to high customer volume, I wasn't served right away and couldn't pick up the vehicle until 9:20. It was awesome that I wasn't charged for extra time when I brought this to the gentleman's attention.
The owner was rude and gave me the wrong size truck and did not explain that the drop off location Would not accept the larger truck he provided. Very unfriendly and intimidating.

U-Haul was having technical issues which delayed check in. Employees were helpful and tried to expedite the orders but it was slow.
The clerk was friendly, but the U-Haul truck I got didn't have a full tank of gas and I had to fill it up 4.5 gallons when I got it. I was still made to return the truck with a full tank of gas.
I was charged for 2 days because the employee didn't process my paperwork until 45 min after I returned the truck, which was 30 min after my scheduled return time. I emailed 3 different emails about it and still no response.

Overall this went very well. Friendly staff, all was ready. My only comment... About two years ago, I rented the same truck (different location in San Diego) and received detailed info (offered to me) re operation. I think this size truck might be more apt than large ones to be rented by someone who doesn't necessarily have experience with a truck (albeit a small one in this case). This time I had to ask, which is fine, but even then, I didn't get all of the relevant info. I remembered there was something I needed to do, but couldn't remember what it was. What I didn't receive info on was the tow/heavy load button that sets automatically and needs to be turned off when driving the truck empty. When I turned on the vehicle, I noticed the tow light, as well as the check engine light. That had me go back inside, only to find that the staff didn't know the details about the tow/heavy load button that needs to be used if driving empty (this was in fact the thing I couldn't recall from last time). Anyhow, it ended up being another customer in line for a rental truck who heard my question and was able to tell me why the light was on and about driving the truck with this feature engaged or not, depending on the load. Granted, there is a sticker on the dash near the button, but I do think staff should be able to answer this question and should ask the customer if they are aware of this feature when they're giving them the truck, or at least ask if they need basic operating info.. The Uhaul location I used last time provided it. As for the check engine light - the clerk told me they come on all the time, especially this truck, and to just ignore it. It was then that I chose to drive on surface streets and avoid the freeway (just in case). Overall, great location, just think their knowledge of how this truck functions could have been better. .

Truck made the 500+ mile trip OK, but definitely is older and has a lot of dings and deferred maintenance. Needs some engine work.
