RENTERS BEWARE! I wish I would've read the reviews on this location PRIOR to renting from The Mower Shop. There are plenty of reviews that mimic my experience. I reserved a 15' box truck to pick up a fridge in Dayton. The first truck they put me in the "check engine" light was on and the oil meter showed as empty. I later learned that truck also had a hole in the roof which defeated the purpose of me renting a box vs. a pick-up for a fridge. The second truck they put me in had what appeared to be a transmission problem and was completely filled with mud! I pulled back into the U-Haul lot to express concern and was told it was my only option..."take it or leave it" (even though they had 4 other 15' trucks on their lot, and I was picking up at closing time and my rental was due back at 10:15 PM same day). The only time during my trip the RPMs went below 4000 was when my foot was completely off the gas pedal. All other times the RPMs hovered between 4000 and 6000. Also, the cab of the truck blew hot air the entire trip even though it was turned completely to "off" and the temperature/thermostat was set to the coldest level. Upon my return from Dayton, I stopped at the Circle K on E. 126th Street (.6 miles from the U-Haul location) and filled the tank up to 1/4 which was the level it was at when I rented it. When I did the after-hours return, there was an online questionnaire which required pictures, etc. I submitted a picture of the tank filled to 1/4, included where I parked the vehicle, and it also asked if the charge of $300 was correct. I selected "no" due to the issue with the RPMs, the mud, and the sauna I drove in (couldn't roll down the window because it was pouring). The next morning, I was emailed a receipt and to my surprise was charged an additional $68.00 for fuel (on top of the $85 I had already put into it for my trip and on top of returning it with the required 1/4 tank) and the tank meter they selected on my return form was just over empty. When I called the Mower Shop to ask what was going on, the associate (I think his name was Colin) was very rude and unprofessional and then hung up on me (which seems to be a pattern at this place). I 100% regret straying from my usual U-Haul place (86th/Bash) just to have a closer drop-off upon my return from Dayton. NEVER AGAIN!! Read the other reviews as my terrible experience is NOT an isolated incident. Even some of the 4 and 5-star reviews are actually negative! U-Haul corporate...the associate(s) at this location need serious customer experience training! An example from another review: "...a gentleman came up to me, in my face, aggressive, argued with me, flippantly said, 'I appreciate your service.'..." and many more.susan V.
