The customer service was horrible! The man conveyed the message that we were bothering him by using U-haul's services. He was unprofessional and rude. He also seemed to be living out of the workspace. I would not recommend this company to any of friends and it truly a shame.

Same truck was overbooked 4 times on reservation system. Employee onsite was extremely aggresive about not having any trucks and did not do anything to handle the problem. Told us to go check ourselves if another site had extra trucks available instead of calling himself. Ended up using a van with a broken window because thats all that was left.

I went to the location of my preferred pick up and received a phone call while in line saying my rental was ready and when I said i was at the location he said I was at the wrong one, I asked how he knew and he said they should've sent me an email changing it. Long story short we were disconnected a few times but this guy was incredibly rude and argued with me that there was no way I didn't get the email of the change. Then when my moving help went to get my rental the employee was incredibly nice and polite TO THEM. I had a storage unit at Oakland coliseum for years but I don't ever want to use u-haul as a brand again. My boyfriend tried to reserve a truck so we could finish out the move (the trailer I got from this location was not big enough like described to me prior to renting) and I immediately canceled it. I am so happy my unit is empty so I never have to use u-haul again.

Worst experience of my life with any company. From start to finish, the most bizarre, rude and off putying experience that ended with the location trying to extort money out of me. Will never use UHaul again and go out of my way to tell everyone I know about this experience and how terrible the customer service is. Worst company I've ever dealt with.

I've filed a formal complaint about our experience because despite my reserving online and verbally with the office on 8000 San Leandro AVe, Oak, they did not have my 15ft reserved truck at the 7:30am appointed time and moved me to another location, with a downgrade to a 10 ft truck and at a much later time at 2pm- I lost money on movers I had reserved for 9:30am-11am slot that is nonrefundable(its not their fault uhaul dumped my reservation) but we also couldnt fit everything in the 10ft truck. Im still havent heard from the complaint manager & despite that i called today to follow up, they put me on hold and then hung up my line so I need to call them back later today. My daughter works for ABC news and I will make this public with Ask Mike Finney who likes to showcase things such as this if it isn't resolved and will call your company directly, and air it publicly..so I am hoping that UHAUL will do me right on this. I expect a major discount, partial payment for my movers expense loss and need another truck for another trip since they gave me a smaller one than I requested.415-696-1531. How to improve? Simple- if a customer already has a confirmation online AND took the time to call the office to confirm, then that reservation is rock solid, period. Worst experience ever and when I have told some of my friends about this, everyone is surprised. I've used uhaul many times..i always return, but now it depends on how UHAUL will try to resolve this .

I booked a cargo trailer online - went into the location in Oakland on West Grand and was told they didn't have one. The girl was very helpful and called the 800 # and I was told I would have to go the next day to San Rafael - a 30 minute drive which is more like an hour and a half during commute hour - The girl in Oakland after those arrangements were reluctantly agreed to, called the owner of the "franchise" office and was told I could get one on 55th St in Oakland, not only closer by 25 min. but actually closer to my home. The arrangements were made, and Jose, the guy there was very helpful in getting the trailer for me hooking it up, testing the lights and instructing me in how to back up.

While the team at this location was excellent, our overall experience with Uhaul was terrible. When we arrived at our original location at 9:00am as reserved, the truck was not there, and the onsite staff had no idea what was going on. When I called Uhaul's regional office, they didn't have any clue either and sent me to this 55th St location to get the 10' truck we reserved. However, when we arrived at the location we were told that their one 10' truck had just been picked up by the person who had reserved it. Clearly the regional office did not look at the location's stock and standing reservations before sending us there. The staff at this location offered us two options: use one of the available vans or they could find a truck at another location. At this point we were over an hour behind schedule and could not risk arriving at a THIRD Uhaul location merely to be told the same story. We ended up renting the van instead which was much more of a hassle due to the volume we needed to move and necessitated making multiple trips (which we hoped to avoid, hence the 10' truck reservation). We reserved the truck early and chose the original rental location based on proximity. This is the 2nd year in a row renting from Uhaul when you messed up a reservation and made us go to an alternate location to get a vehicle. This incompetence along with the terrible customer service provided by the staff manning the regional office phone make me rate this experience as poor. The only shining light in this scenario was the staff onsite at the 55th St location. Jose was patient with us and empathetic to our situation. We reserved a truck early knowing it was the last weekend of the month, a holiday weekend, and end of school term -- clearly a busy time for Uhaul rentals. It's unfortunate you did not staff appropriately and have your inventory aligned to handle the weekend better. I expected better from a company that has been in this business as many years as you have. Moving forward I hope to avoid using your rentals and will advise my friends and family similarly.
