First the code given by the app for afterhours pick up was incorrect so I had to call to obtain the right code. I was also charged 2 days of re tal and 2 days of insurance when I only used the van for a couple of hours, not okay!

The person helping me was very friendly and apologized for the issues, but it literally took 1 hour to pickup a tow dolly. The manager was also arrogant and not very nice to his employee, customers, or myself.

U-Haul does not care about its customers. For probably the third time in a row, the equipment I ordered at a location several days in advance was not available there when the day came. I was referred to a very distant location (over 25 miles) which I said was unacceptable, The alternative I was offered was an open trailer at the Atwater Village location. When I got there none of the trailers on the lot had a light harness, so we had to wait an hour, and then the unit had one side of lights out. I had to take it since I had everything in place for the move on that day. This location tries but doesn't seem to care very much. But the bigger issue is how badly U-Haul handles its confirmations and availability of equipment. It is all computerized so if they say they will have a particular unit in a particular location they should honor that, and if something happens so they can't they should contact the customer well in advance. It's too bad UHaul has a virtual monopoly, which I guess is why they treat customer so shabbily.



I reserved a van and ended up with a box truck. That made the move more difficult due space and clearance issues. The truck AC worked when it wanted to. Worked for five minutes, then the whole ventilation system would shut down suddenly, then it would come back on after five minutes or so then shut down again. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!

The customer service was terrible. The man helping me was new and not familiar with the computer so it took way too long to get my information. Then he literally asked me if I wanted to leave a deposit. My reply was "is it optional?!" And the manager, who only overheard that part of our conversation launched into me in a very aggressive manner exclaiming how they're not just going to GIVE me a new truck. When I restated what the other associate asked me the manager looked embarrassed and then tried to scold the employee. It made me very uncomfortable. If they just had it together in the first place my interactions with the employees would have been much more pleasant. After about 30 minutes they were finally ready to hand over the keys. The first truck was the wrong one. So we went to find the right one. THREE trucks later they had the truck that matched the paperwork. It smelled so strongly of chemicals that my sinuses burned the entire day and I had a terrible headache. It was basically the worst customer service experience I've experienced in a long time.
