I wasn't advised that my drop off time was after hours for the location, and wasn't advised that I would have to check in my truck on line. I arrived before 5:30 but it was closed and then I had to call uhaul for help to check the vehicle in. None of this was mentioned when I was at the office picking up the vehicle. It took at least 15 minutes to get the proper settings for my location and the person who was helping me on the phone wasn't intended to help as she thought I knew what I was supposed to do. Then after several minutes, we lost our connection, maybe she hung up because the call was taking so long and I was returned to the on hold part of the call. When we arrived for our truck the truck number provided was not on the lot to go for our reservation time, we were then told our truck we were going to be given had a cracked windshield, and we were given a different a different truck, the truck was below a quarter tank of gas and our requested items was not given to us as reserved online. Your Call Center was for the most part horrific. I booked the truck and was told the location opened at 7 so booked for 8. The day of, with 6 people waiting to help was told location didn't open until 9. Called and asked for compensation for inconvenience and was told I would receive $50 credit. When truck was returned credit was not applied. Called AGAIN and after a 40 minute hold was told she could not speak to me because I had put my son in law on as driver and he now held the contract that I made & paid for. My daughter called and was told the credit was forfeited when we took the vehicle despite the fact that their were notes on the file to the contrary and was hung up on by that representative. Called back and she was given info in credit. NEITHER of her representatives required to speak to my son in law. Your system is severely flawedMARK GORDON P.

An alarm blared every time I tried to open my locker, despite having confirmation it was ready and a tag on the door saying it was ready. When I contacted the front desk, I was treated rudely and told to come back in 2 days when they had a chance to fix the alarms. I said this was unacceptable because I'd already paid for the unit and driven with a van full of stuff to store. This went back and forth until someone else was put on the phone. So we followed all the instructions, the confirmation went through and we never received a message with the truck number or where to get the keys. Called customer service, was on hold for over 15 minutes... never got through to anyone. We will have to try again Monday evening.donald B.
I requested a 15' truck and reserved a 15' truck, but was given and charged for a 20' truck, which I didn't realize til I went to return the truck, was thinking it was bigger then I expected for a 15' truck to be the whole time I had it, the back was not swept out before I picked it up, charges/bill wasn't explained, just was told what the cost was and about a refund from using less mileage then initially charged for when truck was picked up. I might recommend to friend after I get over this experience. Wasn't happy paying more then it should have been if I got the truck I reserved. Everything went well, but I'm not sure about the gas policy. They said the gas tank was 'full' on pickup, but I filled it up before returning and thought more gas was added than was reasonable for such a short trip. I noticed when I filled up that the gas gauge needle went above the level of the starting 'full' from when I picked the van up.MICHAEL PAUL S.

Trailer was rented to us with a tail light not working. When my tech advised a U Haul representative they said it would be ok the brake and signal light are working you do not require a tail light and insisted he take the trailer as is. We installed a new tail light before taking the trailer on our journey. Luckily we are a truck service facility and we had a tail light in stock. Not impressed. Was just disappointed that the online check in wouldnt work and we had to take time we didnt have to go in the store and wait and endure wearing a mask for a long period of time waiting. Would be so much better if your on line services worked so you could get the service you paid for not an alternate service. Also so hard to tell how much gas your putting in. The service here is great, at least who i dealt with. My 15' rental had a cracked passenger side mirror and the ashtray was filled with ashes...no butts but just ashes. Normally this is my rental spot, probably a dozen times and this is the first and only time i've had a dirty'ish kind of truck.Michael M.

The overall cost of the service was not made clear to me and I ended up laying a lot more than what was expected. I didn't get the right truck that I needed and ended up having to leave stuff back at home. I was also charged for a full tank of gas when the tank was only half full when I got it. I rented a regular dolly and they try to give me a heavy old dolly, I declined and cancelled my dolly reservation. I wasn't happy as no one told me it was not available until I requested. There is a lot to cover here. First I rented a truck and secondly booked an appointment to have a trailer/bike hitch installed and to purchase a bike rack for the hitch on the same day as the truck rental. The truck rental went great; no issues the pick up and drop off were A-1. The gentlemen I booked it with indicated there was1 only of each in stock at the location so he asked for my credit card info and said it was reserved for me - not so apparently. Hitch went okay but no rack - no on called me to tell me. Found out when I picked the car up. Told the staff I still wanted the rack - Staff told me manager will call me to confirm the order - no call. Called U-Haul the next day and spoke with a lovely person named Marie. Marie sent an e-mail to the manager and told the manager I was still waiting for the call - gave Marie my cell phone# to pass on to manager - still no contact from manager. Also, staff could not provide a receipt/invoice for the hitch installation.phil W.

While the truck itself ran well, it was filthy when I picked it up and the interior had a very strong odor of pot/dope. I'm happy w the truck performance, but was very dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the vehicle interior , especially during these times on covid. I truly believe you need to clean and sanitize vehicles between customers, my family and I have no idea where the dirt/mess originated, and the smell was very off-putting.DARREN C.

Communication after your stuff is in storage is non-existent. I sent an email asking if I had set up auto pay correctly with no response. I was then charged a late fee. I decided to pay two months up front and then another (3rd) month's payment was taken off my credit card without me knowing. I've asked for confirmation that 3 months payments have been recieved and if I will not be charged agian until November or if I wil get a refund and guess what? No response. Just this survey/review. Not only did I call first the confirm that there was a storage unit the size that I needed, was still available, I reserved online a unit at the Dartmouth location. I selected my move in date and got an email confirming my unit was reserved. When I arrived on my move in date, the lady informed me that the unit was not available. Apparently reserving a unit online or even calling to reserve, doesn't confirm that you will actually have a unit available to you. Minutes after the lady told us about there not actually being a unit being reserved for us, her co-worker informed her that there was a unit that just opened up minutes ago. So the unit I selected was $159+ taxes and the unit that I am now paying for is over $200 a month with taxes and tenants insurance…. Not pleased at all with how Uhauls system works, it makes absolutely no sense. The lady at the office was very helpful and sweet with us but I will not be renting a unit from uhaul in the future.Olivia M. | First Impressions

The security system kept going off whenever I was there, went to front desk and they gave me anew card as they weren't sure what was going on. Lights only worked half the time I went in. When I booked the storage unit there was a huge mess up. was told I had a truck and storage unit booked with first month rent free, went in and was told I didn't as nothing was marked down. Got the truck and told me to go back in when I had my stuff to book a unit as they couldn't right then, which I found weird, they also told me one would be available when I got there. Once I had my stuff went in they told me they only had biggest unit available so I went with it cause what was I going to do with my stuff. Meanwhile I didn't get the first month free as they put the truck under my name and storage under my mom. I brought it up to there attention and it kept getting put off like it was nothing and they couldn't do anything. I was in a domestic dispute and had to get my things out of the house and going through alot at the time so I gave up. BUT AM NOT AND WAS NOT IMPRESSED THAT DAY. I moved my things into a storage unit during a small snow storm. Everyone else cancelled their services at Uhaul, as I was told by an employee there that morning, but I decided to go ahead and get my move done. The area in front of my storage unit was iced and not salted and poorly lit. As a result, my driver slipped, broke his ankle in 2 places, and had to go to the hospital. After returning inside the office, I mentioned the incident to the employees none of whom expressed any concern about the matter. Staff at the facility were excellent - however, the call center misled me to believe that I had reserved a unit (they took my credit card number) when no real reservation had been made. This could have been a very big deal if I had not shown up on site to get the layout - and got the last unit available. Call center needs to be specific that the reservation is not firm until checking in at the site. And if not firm, why do they need credit card info over the phone? No notice of a circular lock needing to be purchased in order to "prevent theft" until we arrived to move into the unit. This should be included in the price of the unit if there is a known issue. The lock sold on site is garbage and we threw it out after we moved out as it was difficult to open. Bagged clothing and baby items became moldy; had to throw out a lot of it. Smell of urine near our unit, like someone had been peeing on the wall frequently. Was told when I spoke to someone to discontinue my unit that I would receive a call back stating whether or not I need to return my access card - no call back to date. Staff on the phone and inside the branch were very helpful and well spoken. The service was poor when we had to go into the office, (online instructions didn't match the instructions from the facility itself), person behind counter wasn't wearing their mask properly (in middle of pandemic), basically told me I was a liar, and his instructions didn't work to allow me into my unit either. There's poison rodent traps in the units no one tells you about until you find it, which I think those traps are inhumane and I requested it to be moved. Was told they would remove it, I wait another almost 24 hours before going back to put the lock on the unit to still find trap inside. Was cut off by person speaking to me on to me on the phone while trying to sort out issues to the point I just stopped trying, and let them say whatever they needed too and ended the call without being properly happy about anything. The one good thing they did was give me a month free for all the issues, a ten minute set up turned into 3 days of super stress and confusion that couldn't of easily been avoided, the 1 month free feels insufficient and lazy on behalf of the company. 10/10 will never uhaul for anything again.Kerra N. | Online Move In

Reserved a 10 by 15 unit 3 weeks in advance than rented a 26' uhaul truck to move upon my arrival at the Dartmouth location was told my unit is no longer available and my reservation means nothing and it's first come first serve! It took weeks of planning to have people help with the move an expensive uhaul truck to move our things and then to show up and not have the reservation mean anything was absolutely unacceptable. When I asked to speak to a manager at around noon I was told she was in a meeting until 6. The gentleman at the desk called Halifax and Bedford locations but also not available not to mention I'm paying for the truck per kilometre. For a storage facility not back up a reservation a customer has made is unimaginable as we are counting on the unit to be available if reserved. In the end we did get a 10 by 20 unit but took over an hour to find. I'm not sure how long our things will be in this unit but I do know when I need another unit in the future and with the costs associated with moving I will certainly be looking for a company who can be trusted. Staff were wonderful and handled my request quickly and so efficiently, and such a great atmosphere, you couldn't help but giggle along with them. Oh my gosh, Kim and her staff were so helpful. Moving can be stressful at anytime, but Kim happened to be at the front door when I entered. She warmly greeted me and took care of me through the whole process. I was set to go within a very short time. First thing: i asked at the counter to book a truck for the next day and pick up in a town 80 kms away. I was booked for a week away and pick up in the city the office was in. I canceled that order, messaged the office and i was not contacted about the screw up. Second, when i got the truck a few days later, i rolled into the storage area and the alarm was going off. The security intercom system was utilized by me to notify the office next door. I was blamed for setting the alarm off. It was certainly not me. Everything was dealt with about 45 minutes later when staff were running around trying to figure out the issue. Lady at the desk was awesome yesterday.james c. | First Impressions
Kim was awesome!!! Helped me out when my reservation was messed up. The staff indoors at the office were NOT wearing masks. This is twice I've been in in a month and I can say I do not feel comfortable going back in knowing their lack of pandemic responsibility. Only 2 screens separated customers but those lines were not open, only the wheelchair and the one next to it. No sanitizers next to debit machines or desks. Uhaul is a HUGE company and am disappointed. I will be using a different company next time.christina g. | First Impressions

Was smaller than I expected, but I haven't needed a storage room for awhile. It gives peace of mind though to know Uhaul has the storage when I need it. And of course it helps to use a measuring tape before arriving at the storage room!! :)Karen K. | First Impressions
