I was overcharged and called U Haul to advise of the mistake. The woman I spoke with said she would have that location contact me. No one has I contacted me to date (12 days). The error is only $10.00; however, due to the fact that no one has contacted me I will not use U Haul again and have already cancelled two future bookings. I will encourage people I know and even people I don’t know to book with any other rental company.

I’d say it would be hard to improve on the service I received. I picked up the trailer on Sunday morning and dropped it off this afternoon. The same lass looked after me both times. And she remembered me. I don’t know what you are paying her but she deserves a raise.

Line ups, confusion, extra charges, congested parking lot. Wait in line to be told just go, they'll charge your credit card (whatever they want) and send you an email. Fine Wash my hands of the horrible experience and cut my losses. I feel used and abused. No one should have to be terrified trusting such a big company. Then add insult to injury and they want to just charge my card whatever they want. Very unfair. I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. The girls at the office told me a bunch of break lines had be cut on all their trailers... . And moving Vans! So be careful you poor suckers.

Truck exterior was not clean. Inside was clean. Gas tank was a little less than half full. Attendant had to be asked to show me how to operate the truck. He handed me the keys and then walked off. No one mentioned to me that I would have to stop at the pay toll change entrance due to there being extra toll charges. I ended up getting in trouble at the bridge toll both for attempting to drive the truck through the regular pay entrance. Booking the truck, dealing with the girl who took my payment and dropping off the truck all went well.

It is a long drive to pick up and return the trucks there when there are other locations in the city. I asked about dropping off somewhere else, and they said all pickups and returns go to this main location. Customer service was great, prices were ok, but having to drive an extra 2 hours there and back twice in a day is quite frustrating.

First trailer had NO working lights, second trailer two lights failed en route and the trailer had half of its D-rings inside ripped out meaning I had no way to secure my load in the trailer.

I have been dealing with U Haul for over 25 years, and I must say I have never had a good experience.....I recently rented a cube van which I reserved on line, only to be disappointed once more... First of all, I only wanted a 16 foot cube van (Anything bigger won't fit in my driveway) When I arrived at U Haul I was informed I was getting a 20 foot truck because there was no 16 footers available. But there was when I made my reservation? And sure, they offered it to me for the same price, but that does not make up for the extra gas this beast will cost when I am driving 250 km, Does it? And if this was the only time this had happened I would understand. We all make mistakes, but this happened last time I rented a cube van....and the time before that. Then when I went to use my credit card, they said they couldn't accept it. But it was the same credit card I used to reserve it on line? They explained that the machines they have are American and if your card has a cashback option, it won't work....but it was acceptable on line. Luckily, I had another credit card, or I would have been screwed.Ever think about posting this information on your website? After finishing my move, (Stuck out halfway in the street because I did not have a 16 foot van) I returned it, where I was informed there would be a two dollar and ninety cent charge for going 2 km over. I wouldn't have a problem with that....if it hadn't cost me 15 extra dollars in gas to drive a 20 footer. Maybe you should have offered me a free roll of packing tape or something? Any company that cared would. I know I would be ashamed to ask for another cent. I am sick of being nickled and dimed. I am tired of being given the run around and being told, "Well, that's our policy." After 25 years of using U Haul...I realized they are the ones using me. I would like to tell them all where to stick their 20 footer...

I showed up an 50 minutes early to my reservation, the parking lot was full of vehicles in the range of what I had ordered. I was asked to wait until my reservation before I could get a vehicle. I returned 30 minutes later to find the same vehicles in the parking lot, but I spoke with another agent. The second agent got me all set up and on my way.. left me to believe that the first agent could have tried to figure something out. My biggest complaint would be that there was a fee that was applied to my final bill that the agent couldn't explain. She seemed under-trained and somewhat apathetic to my concern. Most of the staff were really pleasant

The back sliding door was very difficult to close. Problem with the counterweight? I reserved a 15ft truck a month ago. At the last minute, they call me to suggest to replace it by 26ft truck. I had to wait an hour on the phone to be able to change from 26 ft to 20ft truck to be picked up at 7am the next morning rather than 4pm the day before which would have been more convenient. The service need to be improved, specially the waiting on the phone to have someone answer is not acceptable.

my problem is When I got in the truck I noticed immediately there was no gas which was fine so I drove to the gas station immediately I then continued on to do my move once I got back to the drop off location I was charged $80.13 for gas that I already put in and paid for so then I paid for it twice but here’s the real kicker the gas it’s self was only $36.16 there was a $30 fill up fee .... so I was already pissed off to begin with that there was no gas in the truck and I had to first drive to get gas then you guys charge me for gas a second time and this crazy fill up fee .. extremely unprofessional I was very very disappointed… Not to mention when I went to the drop off location which was on windmill Road in Dartmouth the girl at the counter was extremely rude to me the guy who did the inspection forgot to even write down the kilometres or the gas… At which time they said the truck was already taken to the field… Then some girl said she would go up and get the pictures and send them to the other girl who was at the counter through Snapchat we waited for 25 minutes for these pictures to come through on Snapchat which again is highly unprofessional they never ended up coming in because After all that time past they said there must not be Wi-Fi on the hill another employee said they probably wouldn’t even be able to get an accurate gas reading because the truck was parked on a hill… I believe I was ripped off and I would really like that portion of my bill back it’s not fair and it’s very highly unprofessional… Also I was promised a one month free storage coupon which I asked for three times but I was so modelled by the time I left I didn’t even realize she didn’t give it to me until I was home. Please do the right thing and rectify this issue.

My truck had a vibration on the highway what seemed to be the cabin on the driver side rear of the cab. Might want to have a look. Otherwise no complaints whatsoever. The vibration isn't even a complaint, simply a heads up. Thank you for the quick service especially since I was over an hour early! Drop off was just as quick and smooth and even got a partial return due to not using all my mileage. Great service in all.

Mainly would like to recommend that U Haul truck(s) be filled to a minimum 1/2 tank. Although, I feel it should be manageable to have the truck filled to full. Irregardless of the reasoning I was provided for not having a full truck; it was requested and i was told that all the trucks are sent out full (this is a huge falsehood). I feel that by not filling trucks before they are rented. Is a way that UHaul passes off "down time" to the customer. A minimally filled truck, means customers may require to fill truck twice during rental and instead of just to the level it was provided when rented, on the return trip. This is a poor business practice that does not value costumer's time and actually passes business operational cost to the costumer.

Huge disconnect between Call Centre and store. Was booked for appointment by call centre to be then contacted by store as they did not install hitch past 1:30pm. The left message, when I attempted to contact store again was rerouted to call centre who did not seem to know what to do or able to give me direct contact to store.

Horrible - was given date for installation - no one told me late - then dealt with manager - told me to see her at 8amtoday - went in, she wasn't there - took staff 25min to check in 3 people - no waiting chairs and I have very bad knee - manager incorrectly didn't advise me that uhaul won't rent hitch to convertible (I told her at outset it was a convertible and we discussed removing it etc etc) -- tons more issues but I'm too tired to outline here - I sent long email to supervisor of Dartmouth (tracey) but not surprisingly have heard nothing...horrible service - would never go back

didnt have my truck, and didnt say anything until handing me the keys to a smaller truck. Manager was extremely rude both to the staff, and well as to customers. She called me over by screaming my name from her office like I was a child. They didnt explain the phone drop off before I left, and it didnt even work once I dis return the vehicle. All in all, no one seemed to know what they were doing.

The staff I dealt with at the Dartmouth location were excellent, The size of truck I ordered was not available so I was given a larger one, as it turned out they must have known that...or it was by sheer coincidence... hmmm I certainly needed that room, A staff member was thorough in the showing how the car trailer connected and what to do when I had to put my vehicle on. No crazy fine print fees, I just dropped the keys off at the final destination as they were closed for the day, I received email receipts which broke down the charges and made it easy to understand. Overall I was more than satisfied with this experience.

The lady working was rude, took pictures of my driver licence on her personal cell phone, Not very professional, or very secure from a privacy point of view, especially in 2019 and everyone being worried about data. I called to say I would not be back by closing at 7pm that I would be 20 mins late and how I could drop it off after hours, the lady told me it was impossible, that I had to return it the next day, yet when I got there (I knew she was wrong) the key box and online check in was there available to me, the first van they brought me was filthy and I had to wait while they got me a new one, which I was given with no contract so I could not do an inspection and was told "not to worry about it" - I will try to avoid using this location again - I usually have great uhaul experiences but this was terrible, rude, dirty and I really did not like that she took pictures of my id with her cell, and when I asked about it, I was treated rudly

It was very busy 2 days we were there. The one cashier couldn’t even talk to people really because she was so busy. It almost came across as rude but you could tell it was just because she was trying to do so much. More staff would have been better both days.

I am quite disappointed with my rental. I drove on to the highway only to notice that there was less than 1/8th of a tank of fuel. I signed for a van with 1/4 of a tank and had to return the vehicle with 1/4 of a tank. I drove only 19 miles and had to put $20.00 worth of fuel in the tank to bring it up to 1/4 - my fuel cost equaled my rental cost. This is not good business on your part; you could have checked the fuel level before renting this van out. This was likely an innocent mistake but it feels like I've been taken advantage of. Lack of communication between call centre and the shop made it hard to schedule around picking up the truck. Lucky for me I got a quote and didn’t have to pay for the extra time it took to complete the job. Poor management.

My dealings with the location were all fine: staff were helpful, equipment met expectations. More clarity when booking online between what you think is your "booking" versus what are "booking preferences", however, could be vastly improved. I made what I thought was a booking a month in advance for a specific vehicle, with particular pickup and drop off times. Between the booking and actual pickup, all aspects of my booking changed several times. The vehicle was "upgraded" from a 10' to a 15' to a 20ft' (total overkill for my needs, plus stress handling a large truck) and my drop off time was shortened twice, significantly hampering moving plans. While I fully appreciated the challenges UHaul must have coordinating huge inventories and booking requests - particularly at peak moving times - this system isn't customer-first at all, but rather "you'll get what you get and everything is subject to change" and a call to a representative only led to them to double-down on this approach. If a "no guarantees" system is the best UHaul can provide, fine. It would be better customer service, however, to state this much more plainly and obviously through the reservation and confirmation process.

I was given the truck on empty. It was a pain to return it at the Kentville location because they do not give gas credits. Please make sure the trucks have gas in them before giving them to customers.

Everything was fantastic. I've had bad experiences with U-Haul in the past, but the Windmill Rd branch was more than accommodating and really saved me. I can't remember the name but the manager on duty the morning of April 30th did me a real favour and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

There is not enough room in this box to express how frustrated, upset, angry, traumatized, victimized, bullied and RIPPED OFF I feel !!!! The personnel at this location were NOT helpful. I had an email confirmation on Apr. 9th for a 10ft rental on Apr30th but was forced to drive a 26ft. truck from Hfx to Sydney because I was told that’s all that was available when I went to this location for pick up. My daughter finished at Dal on Mon and we were moving a double box spring and mattress, metal bed frame, bureau, small desk, small IKEA kitchen table , bedside table, 2 lamps, 4 chairs, microwave and stand, and bookcase along with several blue bags of bedding, towels winter clothing and or boots and shoes and a small box of books. I did NOT need a 26 ft truck, nor did I want to pay the $160 for gas that I paid!!!! I drive a Honda Civic, we owned a Van in the past so I felt comfortable when doing the booking that a 10 ft truck to drive would be ok when I went online and answered all the questions to confirm my booking/reservation for Apr 30th However NOT for a 26 Ft truck!!!!! I thought you would need a special license to drive a vehicle this size, but was told “no” . Really????? I question this company’s willingness to rent these large vehicles in light of accidents that happen as the result of inexperienced drivers!!!! Well why did I rent it then you might ask. I’ve had a drivers license fo 44 yrs and an excellent record , and my only other option was to leave the items I mentioned except for the clothing/ bedding and towels curb side for heavy duty garbage pick up. Most of the items were purchased NEW in Sept 2018. I work very hard for the money I make and this was not an option. I’m extremely upset that I wasn’t informed on April 9th that I wouldn’t get the size rental I needed and was comfortable driving. I was reminded at 9:15 on Apr 30th by your employee that at the time of the online booking it was indicated at the bottom of the contract that there was no guarantee that I would get what I ordered!!! Seriously,... this is a rip off!!! Read the fine print!!!! If I ordered a 10ft why do you think it’s ok to leave me with no other option on the day of rental but to take the 26 ft rental , or leave it!!! All I kept being told was that there was nothing else available! I saw numerous 10ft vehicles in your parking lot. The inefficiency and lack of help or consideration of my needs by the manager and female staff member I unfortunately had to deal with just makes my blood boil as I type this!!!! Why couldn’t you give me one of the 10 ft trucks and someone else a 26ft one based on booking priority????? Could you not have checked this out??? Neither made any effort and the staff member was visibly frustrated by me!!! All I kept hearing was that “there is nothing else available “ over and over!!! I stood in line for 15 minutes to be told I needed to go outside and speak with the lot team to get my trailer. I was then told to take my slip of paper back to the customer service desk for processing. This is an easy fix. Do it. Write instructions for picking up trailer in the delivery email. Have a board with instructions to visit the lot team at the front entrance. Have the lot team pull customers from the line. Have the front desk team between customers tell anyone who is getting a trailer to go to the lot first.

I Would like to say that my experience was not the greatest...no one at the rental office made it clear that we only needed to put 3/8th of a tank in the truck and the “fine print” was so blurry myself nor partner could barely read where it said this. As a result you now have a truck with a full tank with ~30 or less kilometres driven on it. I would hope that this could be resolved with some form of discount. If not, I understand, however I would like to think you will adjust this so your future customers won’t be burdened with this expense.

When I picked up a tow dolly for a one way trip to Montreal, I told the clerk I wanted to drop it off in La Prarie, not Montreal. She said no problem , but later I noticed the drop off location was Notre Dame E, Montreal. I phoned Uhaul Dartmouth and explained the mistake. I was then told that there may be an extra charge. I told her that I will not pay an extra charge. I am watching my credit card statement closely in case it was added in on me. If it is, I will never rent again as I had problems the past 2 times I've rented.

The contract was all screwed up when I returned the trailer. I was originally told that I was paying $103 for the trailer, which I did at the pick up location. When I dropped off the trailer the company demanded that I pay an additional $170 ! There record of the contract was incorrect, and they couldn’t find any notes on the contract regarding the amount I was paying. I had the most horrific experience in the 46 years period during which I have rented cars/truck/trailer. FYI, I am a senior citizen and here are the reasons: 1. I rented a cargo van on a location near my home, but after one hour I received an email stating that the van would be available at a location 12 km away from my home. Note that I had to pay 59 cents +HST (therefore, nearly 69 cents per km) for those extra km (twice, back and forth!) 2. I used the express-check-in through U-Haul website so that I would not have to waste any time when picking up the van. When I got to the location, after waiting for 8 minutes in the lineup, I had to provide all the information that I provided online (when express-checking in) to the attendant. 3. I returned the van in exactly 1.5 hr back to the location. Again, after waiting in the lineup, this time for 5 minutes, while the attendant was bringing my information on her screen, she received a message that there is an issue with the rental!!! She went outside and after 5 minutes she came back, and stated that if I had actually kept the van for 2 weeks! I stated that I had borrowed the van 1.5 hrs before. She went to discuss it with her supervisor. After waiting for 5 minutes, I saw the attendant who had checked me in. I asked her if should resolve the issue, since she would remember that I was there 1.5 before that time. She brought the information up on her screen and at that point, a rude lady (seemingly, a supervisor) appeared and asked for me name. I told her all my information was on the screen (of course with a totally frustrated voice and somewhat laud!). I asked that rude attendant why she asked the same information that was on the screen, and why they were wasting my time. She responded that there was a glitch with their computer system, which had to be resolved. She told me that I could leave, as the receipt would be sent to me by email. I insisted that given the facts, their incompetent system, etc, I wanted to know the exact cost of my rental. I had to wait for her for another 5 minutes for that simple info. As you could appreciate, the whole event was nothing but a frustrating and unnecessary waste of time – NEVER AGAIN U-HAUL!

My only complaint was I booked the trailer online to pick up in Newfoundland, if I didn't call before hand, i would not have known their wouldn't be one there for me. That would have been a big issue. I agreed to pick-up in Dartmouth, extra cost involved with gas ferry and longer rental. Yes they gave me a discount but that didn't cover the extra cost incurred. The website used to book a truck has too many click through windows: Do you want tape? NO, Do you want a dolly? NO do you want movers to help? NO. All I wanted to do was book a truck and it took 15 minutes! Also Why cant the trucks come with a full tank of gas? In the past when renting a truck the tanks were full and brought back full. Yesterday the tank was at 1/4 and the first thing I had to do was go fill up. Then just before dropping off the truck i had to fill up again. Finally. When I did bring the truck back the fuel needle was slightly below where it was when i picked it up. So I was charged 12$ penalty. Now did Uhaul put 12$ worth of fuel into the truck. Nope they pocket this and pass on the costs to the next person. All these are added frustrations on a day, moving day, which is already stressful enough for the average person. just my 2 cents... which u-haul will pocket.

Even though I specifically asked for something suitable to move appliances and also requested an appliance dolly I was given neither. The vehicle supplied did not have a ramp and the fact I requested an appliance dolly was not noted. The company did supply a regular dolly but they had no straps. I had to drive an extra 15 miles to go home and get my own straps ($1.11/mile) + extra gas. The fact that it was raining hard the whole day did not help. Things would have gone a lot smoother if they had only listened to the what I requested. I guess they are not the professional organization I thought they were.

Customer service was near impeccable. Spoke with Trista (Unsure if spelling) on the phone to make the reservation. I had never made a reservation for U-haul equipment before and she was extremely helpful and easy to talk to with any questions or concerns. Upon pickup later that evening, she knew me by name as soon as I said I had just called and her customer service continued to be exceptional, despite some technical issues with the computer (no fault of her own). I do not often partake in customer service surveys, but was blown away by her ability to make this new experience a comfortable and easy one for me. When I called in the morning with a question about a charge on my credit card, hoping to receive the same warm and helpful service, I was greeted coldly by a woman who seemed annoyed by my question or even my very call (as a precedent, I was by no means disputing this charge, just wondering what it was for). I was shocked and disappointed at the contrast in customer service within a 24 hour period. This store gets a good review from me, but only due to the outstanding service I received from Trista during the reservation process.

Uhaul entered my contract incorrectly over the phone as a one way trip instead of returning to the depot. When I asked about the expense when signing my contract I was told it was simply because of the km estimate and that everything would be fine. Moved and returned the truck to the same depot. 15kms and about 3 hours. Instead of a return I was charged more money. After the move I contacted uhaul customer service via email about the charges, and was told I'd get a refund in 5 business days. 5 days passed with no refund. Went to the location and was told the manager was required and would contact me. Manager never contacted me. Called a week later and was told the same thing. Also told they'd even emailed the manager to be sure. Waited the weekend and contacted again after no response from the manager. Talked to 'Theresa or Cheresa' (I did not properly catch the name), who did everything in her power to inform me that despite everything I was told that it was my fault for signing the contract with improper information on it. She was very disrespectful and confrontational. No regard at all for the fact thatd I'd been getting the run around, no that I'd been given incorrect information. She was the only person to tell me the didnt need the manager, so I suspect she may manage this location. In the end I was directed to customer service who were very helpful and filled my charge complaint. It seems fairly odd that it took me a grand total of 17 days and asking the same questions different ways to be told my contract was wrong and that I needed customer service. Apart from the customer service representative I'm fairly disappointed in this entire process. Especially as I only caught this litany of errors because I'd made the exact same move a week prior.

I ordered a 20 ft truck and they switched it to a 26' truck which would not fit in my loading space. They responded quickly and found me a truck from nearby, but the truck came with some damage and handwritten on the receipt was "customer assumes all responsibility for damage caused by broken part". This was handed to me in a hurry as I was leaving the lot, and I didn't notice the caveat until my move was over, nor did an employee alert me to the change in terms. This was a deceptive practice. Give people the trucks they ask for the first time. They usually have important reasons for picking certain trucks. Stop deceptive practices. Don't give people damaged vehicles that could break as a result of the damage and don't assume customers will take responsibility for the company's inadequate and broken trucks.

460 Windmill Rd location is great. I however, booked the car at Almond Street, Halifax location. THey called me and told that the car will be at Green Street, Halifax. I came there, but the office did not open. I tried online app, and the app told me that I had to go inside and ask the teller for the key. Not very nice when I went back and found out I was getting charged for kilometers and they never informed me when I got the truck that I would be getting charged for the kilometers I drove.

The other day I found no lock on my door. The service counter determined that, for some inexplicable reason, their yard man marked me as "moved out" and cut the lock off 3 days earlier w/o notice!

Well for starters I cancelled my uhaul storage on December 21st and I got an email yesterday stating I owe 155$ for late payment on the storage unit. I'm not paying that. Not my fault.

the manager is horrible I waited 5 weeks before just pulling my stuff out of storage for a phone call from her. The units are filthy and infested with mice would never rent there again

My things became rat infested and nobody helped me at all. I paid over $1000 dollars for storage when I could have had a better chance leaving in on the street. I will never recommend uhaul storage.

Glad I checked the U-Haul website and found out about the U-BOX option. Whole move went very smoothly, and I would recommend U-BOX to anyone. And it was half the cost of other options I looked at!
