I drove the truck for 2km, still seem to be charged for 20km, even though I was told I would be only be charged for what I used. Received 4 receipts via email, and still no word from customer service whom I emailed.

Tammy NauglerI was pretty frustrated to find the unit was up a flight of stairs with no elevator. The ad for the unit said “drive up”, which gave the impression that we could drive up to the unit and unload the heavy furniture we are storing. Now we’ll need to carry it all up a flight of stairs. I would not have chosen this particular unit had I known that was the case. There was no lock in the unit as advertised, but the friendly staff were able to assist. The rest of the facility was clean and the carts were very helpful, just wish the particular unit was described better on the website.

Michael TimmonsMake sure the lock system for the 24/7 uhaul rentals is better maintained please. Lube and check that all the locks open in all conditions. I arrived at 6:30, and got to the point of entering the lock passcode, only to have the lock not open because of the outside temperatures (and likely lack of lubrication). Thankfully there were already staff onsite so they switched the cargo van to one I could use, but if I had arrived earlier this would have been a much more frustrating experience. Thank you!

Pick up was great, I did not use the app but the service agent was personable, she was helpful with decisions. Truck was exactly as advertised. Return simple and easy the gentleman was quick and thorough. Loved it. I have used Uhaul for all my moves and am always pleased.

When we returned at night after our concert there was no where to get out of the pouring rain to take the camera shots required for after hours return. We will definitely look into alternative rentals which do not put our cell phones at risk.

Peter DodgeToo many hidden fees. I particularly enjoyed the $20 “after hours” service fee. I picked the truck up at 5pm using the app and then I dropped it back and put the keys in the slot at 8:30pm. What was the service provided by U-haul that justified the “after hours” fee? It wasn’t even after hours, staff were onsite when I got there at 5. Not that they helped me at all. They gave me the keys and couldn’t even be bothered to show me where the van was. I wandered around trying to find it on the lot (because all that was on the key chain was a serial number) until I eventually gave up and went back inside to ask. In the end, I paid nearly $200 to rent a 10’ cube van for 3.5 hours. Wouldn’t do it again. Will wait until a friend is available with a truck.

FLOYD OMARIt was a bit annoying that my truck was in the storage unit lot (only 4 vehicles were there), so as a new to UHaul guest, it was inconvenient to park at the main lot and then have to walk to the other lot. The lock to get the key was also very difficult to open, and it would have been useful to have a scraper available for winter conditions, since there was snow and ice on my windshield and nothing available to use. There was also a pretty big snow bank directly behind the truck, so it made backing out and parking afterwards a bit difficult.

I had come in and made all the arrangements more than a week ahead of time, and it still took an hour while I had people at my house, waiting, who I was paying. I will search for an alternate solution next time. It seemed very disorganized and painfully slow. The staff were friendly and respectful, but it took so much longer, and seemed so disorganized that it was a Hateful experience.

I had attempted to access my storage at 8pm, and despite the website saying I had access until 10pm, I was informed by a customer service rep. on the phone that it was only open during office hours. There was no indication of this cut-off time prior to this. This issue caused me to have to drive over 1 hour more than expected, and store items back at my house that I had planned to put in the unit. The issue of incorrect hours needs to be fixed before it causes more issues with customer access.

An older couple graciously moved their vehicle so I could get in. This woman had one dolly cart loaded and sitting idle while she used the other to unload and move things into storage. I asked for the use of the cart and was told it sucks to be you . I left her to her own misery and borrowed the cart from upstairs. If it had been a guy that was that ignorant to me it would have been a different story. There is no reason for that and people should not take all of the facilities equipment for their own at everyone else's expense.

I proceeded to the facility to ensure I knew how to unload and access the unit ahead of time -- it looked secure and I was confident to entrust my belongings to your care. I was happy I chose this storage facility. However, I was not informed at the time of lease that I did not have after-hours access. When I arrived at 6:55pm on the following Saturday to move in, my swipe card told me "access granted", but the sliding doors did not open (at back of facility, where the staff member had recommended I enter as it is close to my unit). I called the number on my access card and reached the call center. The rep looked up my unit and I was advised that I did not have after-hours access and that I needed to pay $10/month to gain access. There was nothing she could do to help me, I had to call the Windmill Rd (NS) the next morning to sort it out. I proceeded to the office, just to see if anyone was around (it was 7:15). There was a staff member inside and I explained my problem; he said (while I stood outside) that there was nothing he could do to help me, no one he could call, and that I had to come back the next day. I initially used the doors at the back of the facility, which is where the staff member advised I should access my unit. I went to the side door (2nd level) and the door opened, but I could not load to my unit (1st floor) from this entrance. I tried the front first level entrance, again the card reader said "access granted", but the sliding door did not open for me. I had arranged help from a family member to move that evening, had loaded and driven my vehicle (big truck with cargo trailer), succeeded in backing it into the unloading area, but then I had to return home. In future, please ensure clients are aware if access is not 24/7 and which doors they can/cannot use. I cancelled my lease and rented another unit elsewhere for a discounted rate.

I was not able to get into the building with a code so I had to go to the office to wait in line for 30 minutes only to learn I could sign out a key to access the building. It was communicated in the email and by the person who helped me sign out the key that a lock would be in the unit. Went back to access the unit and there was no lock. So this coupled with the fact that I would not have after hours access via a key pad and would always have to first go and sign out a key made me ask for my money back. I feel like maybe the unit I rented was different from the other buildings where the email would have made sense and worked. If I had known or if it was more clear during the online booking I would not have rented this particular storage unit.

The call center guy that helped me the second time from a remote location les so he rented me an unsuitable bin that was completely unu-sable despite my specific specifications of what it was to be used for and what my needs and limitations were. I then had to go to the location to get the situation fixed and am still not certain that the situation is 100% solved as I was promised a month free and am not sure if that was credited or not by the 3rd agent i spoke to. Otherwise the bin is now suitable clean accessable and good would advise friends to rent with uhaul.

Anyway, whenever we have jobs, I have to go to the U-Haul office pick up a truck, then go to my storage facility to put work gear on. So one of the staff members mentioned their storage, which I assumed was full, as storage anywhere in HRM is hard to find. Well Kim, the office manager found me a 10 x 15 storage unit very reasonably priced. So here I am.

I would expect to have my rate secured for a minimum of one year before any rent increases. The amount for the increases was also a lot (and random). I would have chosen a different storage company initially had i known this would happen. Move out was very easy though and staff were kind.

I have never been late on anything and this was disappointing. My other concern was how damp my belongings got in less than 3 months storage. I understand I did not have a climate controlled unit, however it was shocking how much mould there was on many of my possessions. The rear of the unit had a lot of moisture/water stains on the wall/floor. I think for anyone renting one of these units, they should be forewarned that it is highly likely they will get mould; not just maybe.

Waited for an hour (8PM to 9PM) before I was able to get in as they are trying to figure out what to do. Since the phone conversation is recorded you ca review the phone conversation and you'll hear from it how the customer service lady responded to my problem. The manager on the site is polite and professional though.
dennis oril | Online Move InMay or may not recommend, uncertain. First time I used this location, it was 24hr access. 7 days a week. This time around, the location wasn't accessible like it had been. However, it also wasn't the same physical building. When I ask for a larger unit, it was suggested there were a couple coming up, and in the meantime if a smaller unit would be ok, I could get the larger unit at a later date. Been several years. Never happened, even though units directly across from mine were emptied twice that I'm aware of. Incidentally, I was offered a second smaller unit. Not useful. Not what was suggested. I'm glad I'm no longer a tenant. One, all of my items are in one unit now. For less than the 5'×10' unit I had. And I'm that much closer to no longer needing a storage unit that's not on my property.

I rent a Uhaul Van (Contract #27797743) going to Quebec (2500Km in total) and back in Halifax. Sadly, I've been told that I wasn't eligible because I took the truck in Halifax and return it to Halifax. On your website, it is said that I had 2 yrs to claim a month free of storage. This is the part that I will not recommend to friends if they will do the same procedures as me. Meaning, rent a truck UHaul, to a place drive that many KM, and back. Very disappointing. I hope you will reconsider to allowed us to have one month free especially since I will be using your storage for 6 to 18 months in total. Thank you for reading the feedbacks.

I sat in front of the door waiting for it to open… nothing… went back inside again and thankfully the other gentleman who obviously loves his job and serving customers showed me how to open the garage and apologized that someone had turned it off. I get to my storage locker and it’s sealed shut. I go back in again and ask her how to I break the seal to access my locker. She rolls her eyes at me, saunters over to the display locker and mockingly rolls up the locker door to show me how to get in. At this point I’m furious. I said I need something to break the green seal! She then says oh, grabs a knife and starts heading out.

The storage unit I reserved was not there for me nor was there any explanation when booking that it was first come first serve whether I reserved it or not. So was given a much smaller unit and a second unit of the same size free for only a month. No apology asked if when the size unit I reserved opened up if I could be contacted…. Doubt that will happen. Almost didn’t get the right size truck because the one that was supposed to be mine was having mechanical issues. Thankfully they had an extra one. Reserved a furniture and appliance dolly and got neither. Was told they were all gone in the morning even though again I reserved both for the time I reserved the truck. It was bad enough 2 of the 3 things I needed from uhaul went completely wrong but then the staff really didn’t seem to care and just wanted to finish the transaction and send you on your way didn’t make the situation any better. Directions were not explained such as when you return the truck get one of the guys outside to do the check rather than come back in to the front desk and wait in line for 25 minutes before they tell you “oh just go outside and get one of the guys”. I’ve used uhaul several times for my own moves and friends and family. This was the worst experience I have ever had with them and don’t know if I will use them for my next move.

I selected my move in date and got an email confirming my unit was reserved. When I arrived on my move in date, the lady informed me that the unit was not available. Apparently reserving a unit online or even calling to reserve, doesn’t confirm that you will actually have a unit available to you. Minutes after the lady told us about there not actually being a unit being reserved for us, her co-worker informed her that there was a unit that just opened up minutes ago. So the unit I selected was $159+ taxes and the unit that I am now paying for is over $200 a month with taxes and tenants insurance…. Not pleased at all with how Uhauls system works, it makes absolutely no sense. The lady at the office was very helpful and sweet with us but I will not be renting a unit from uhaul in the future.

When I booked the storage unit there was a huge mess up. was told I had a truck and storage unit booked with first month rent free, went in and was told I didn't as nothing was marked down. Got the truck and told me to go back in when I had my stuff to book a unit as they couldn't right then, which I found weird, they also told me one would be available when I got there. Once I had my stuff went in they told me they only had biggest unit available so I went with it cause what was I going to do with my stuff. Meanwhile I didn't get the first month free as they put the truck under my name and storage under my mom. I brought it up to there attention and it kept getting put off like it was nothing and they couldn't do anything. I was in a domestic dispute and had to get my things out of the house and going through alot at the time so I gave up. BUT AM NOT AND WAS NOT IMPRESSED THAT DAY. Went in a few times to rent a truck and had great experience with it and the staff were very hopefully but that one day was horrible.

This should be included in the price of the unit if there is a known issue. The lock sold on site is garbage and we threw it out after we moved out as it was difficult to open. Bagged clothing and baby items became moldy; had to throw out a lot of it. Smell of urine near our unit, like someone had been peeing on the wall frequently. Was told when I spoke to someone to discontinue my unit that I would receive a call back stating whether or not I need to return my access card - no call back to date. Staff on the phone and inside the branch were very helpful and well spoken. Will be using a different company in the future - have had no issues like the above at Metro Self Storage.

Mark Burgess | First ImpressionsThe service was poor when we had to go into the office, (online instructions didn't match the instructions from the facility itself), person behind counter wasn't wearing their mask properly (in middle of pandemic), basically told me I was a liar, and his instructions didn't work to allow me into my unit either. There's poison rodent traps in the units no one tells you about until you find it, which I think those traps are inhumane and I requested it to be moved. Was told they would remove it, I wait another almost 24 hours before going back to put the lock on the unit to still find trap inside. Was cut off by person speaking to me on to me on the phone while trying to sort out issues to the point I just stopped trying, and let them say whatever they needed too and ended the call without being properly happy about anything. The one good thing they did was give me a month free for all the issues, a ten minute set up turned into 3 days of super stress and confusion that couldn't of easily been avoided, the 1 month free feels insufficient and lazy on behalf of the company. 10/10 will never uhaul for anything again.

mike wood | Overall ExperienceReserved a 10 by 15 unit 3 weeks in advance than rented a 26’ uhaul truck to move upon my arrival at the Dartmouth location was told my unit is no longer available and my reservation means nothing and it’s first come first serve! It took weeks of planning to have people help with the move an expensive uhaul truck to move our things and then to show up and not have the reservation mean anything was absolutely unacceptable. When I asked to speak to a manager at around noon I was told she was in a meeting until 6. The gentleman at the desk called Halifax and Bedford locations but also not available not to mention I’m paying for the truck per kilometre. For a storage facility not back up a reservation a customer has made is unimaginable as we are counting on the unit to be available if reserved. In the end we did get a 10 by 20 unit but took over an hour to find. I’m not sure how long our things will be in this unit but I do know when I need another unit in the future and with the costs associated with moving I will certainly be looking for a company who can be trusted. If no unit became available and I had a uhaul truck rented with our things in it what would have happened? Absolutely horrible experience.

I was blamed for setting the alarm off. It was certainly not me. Everything was dealt with about 45 minutes later when staff were running around trying to figure out the issue. This is twice I've been in in a month and I can say I do not feel comfortable going back in knowing their lack of pandemic responsibility. Only 2 screens separated customers but those lines were not open, only the wheelchair and the one next to it. No sanitizers next to debit machines or desks. Uhaul is a HUGE company and am disappointed. I will be using a different company next time.
