Disappointed in Uhaul operations more so than the folks at this location. My rental had two components: truck and U-boxes. The truck was clean and worked well. The u-boxes were a shitshow - and this isn't the first time i've had a terrible experience with u-box logistics. Here's what went wrong: 1. why do i (the customer) have to call ahead of time to make sure my boxes are at the location i've specified in my online reservation? I made the reservation, so it's Uhaul's responsibility to make sure ALL the boxes are at my location and ready to go. I shouldn't have to babysit your ops team. 2. Only 2 of the 3 boxes i reserved were at the location and thankfully we only needed 2. 3. The only person at this location who is forklift certified was the assistant manager (Karla) who took time from her day off to drive to the location and load/unload my U-boxes. Poor poor planning/training on Uhaul's part. Why isn't everyone forklift certified? You're impacting both customers and employees by relying on a limited number of folks (in this case 1 person) to enable a successful u-box experience. Karla saved the day, but I'll probably never use U-haul again since this was the second time in a few months that the U-box experience was so painfully disorganized. Get your shit together.James F.
Not location specific - but U-Haul needs to get rid of the misleading "starting at $19.99" messaging. I've never rented a U-Haul for less than $100, and it's always a bad feeling experience to see the $140 bill in person when you're quoted $35 online.Danielle C.

We got to the facility and the unit size I wanted available was $20 more than the advertising right behind the register wall. They shrugged it off saying that was the old price. When we discovered the unit access was not ADA accessible (I have Multiple Sclerosis) we asked to move into a unit I could easily access and explained that I cannot do stairs. She picked out an ADA accessible unit, even though it cost more I reluctantly agreed. She ran my card for $131.16 I went to make sure I could access unit. and when I finally found it, the second unit was already rented and locked. At this point, I was exhausted and frustrated. I was angry that these employees seemed to be completely indifferent or lazy. They said they thought I wanted to add another unit and that is why I had to wait for a refund. Waiting for this error made me have to borrow money for another storage uniting West Seattle that was bigger, cheaper and actually vacant. They honored the sale price and my stuff is now in a different West Seattle facility. I tried working with staff but I was brushed off. Unacceptable.Heather H. | Online Move In
Picked up a 15' rental truck on a busy Saturday morning. U-Haul staff was friendly and got my checked out quickly. The equipment was clean and ready to go. I was told I could drop off my truck at any location. This location was closest to my destination so I drove there. The person behind the counter( in training I learned) never stood up, never removed his sunglasses and told me I had to go to another location 10 miles away the would be closing in five minutes. He couldn't care less about customer service. Finally Phat came over and made some phone calls and I was allowed to leave my rental. Phat went above and beyond to help me to resolve my problem. First of all I asked for a cargo van and I got a van regular style not the cargo van style. Second of all the person that took my walk in messed up on the vehicle he was going to give me so he didn't hand me any paperwork he just gave me a different key that didn't match the paperwork that he had that he kept. He said he would just send it. So I just drove away and I didn't have any paperwork or anything. Text message regarding the vehicle was sent to the wrong phone number so I didn't get to deal with any of those issues with looking at the photographs of the car before I left. The gal that came out to help me in the evening that received the vehicle was great but I think that this whole thing was ridiculous I never agreed to any previous damages or anything of the sort because I was given very little in the way of verbal instruction and I did not get any text message or email until well after I had leftCammie O.

My experience with this location was average except for a young man named Gavin who was polite, understanding, and went out of his way to be as helpful as possible. I would recommend it if you need a truck in West Seattle. The parking lot is really small and has tight parking if any is available. My experience with this location was average except for a young man named Gavin who was polite, understanding, and went out of his way to be as helpful as possible. I was called the day before to say my truck size would not be available and had to downsize. I chose the online check in and check out method and didn't realize how laborious it would be. The website interface was not intuitive, and I am a millennial, so I know how a well-made website works. I understand the security of it all and needing to ask a lot of questions and have back up contacts, but that was so extra. The website at times did not work, so I ended up having to go I side to talk to someone for help. They were judgey and not helpful. Seemed very uninterested in my experience and seemingly thought my questions were dumb. And then they didn't direct me to where the truck was or how to tell which truck was mine. This was hands down the most horrible experience I've ever had with any company. I'll never use uhaul again. I made a reservation ahead of time for a time sensitive move. I needed to leave in the morning to make it from Seattle to Spokane before a rental office closed so I could pick up keys to my new place. I made a reservation for a 6x12 trailer for pick up at 7 a.m. I arranged for a friend to drive from 2 hours away with a truck to tow the trailer. Less than 48 hours before my appointment I was called to notify me that my equipment was not available in my area, and I'd have to drive 35 minutes away to pick it up. When I explained that I had made this reservation some time ago the clerk sneered at me and told me that reservations are only good in a 100 mile radius, and the times are my preferred pick up time, not when I can actually have the equipment. Having few options I agreed to the second pick up location. I called the new storefront to confirm that I could pick up the equipment at 7 when I needed. The morning of my move, 5 minutes away from the uhaul location I got a call that the trailer wasn't available until later in the day now. This wasn't an option for me. The clerk told me that I was out of luck and would have to wait, there was no other equipment. I could see with my own eyes several trailers on the lot. A truck was also unavailable, and no other locations had any equipment I could pick up that morning. Having no other options, I made a last minute reservation with your competitor, at significant financial cost to me because of the short notice. On my way to pick up that equipment that I would actually be able to use, I got another call from uhaul. The trailer I was told to wait for would only be available at a third location, 90 minutes away, even later in the day. Uhaul is so incomprehensibly unreliable and mind numbingly inefficient that I will never, ever, under any circumstances, go through this again. I will tell everyone I know to avoid this company. It is my most sincere hope that uhaul goes bankrupt and is quickly put out of business. Time is one of the most valuable things a person has. I do not appreciate the wonton waste of my time and rude, unhelpful staff employed by uhaul. I made my move on time, thanks only to the fact that uhaul has set the bar so undeniably low that any warm body off the street can provide a better service. Thanks for nothing. There was broken equipment on the truck which I noted during my pre-rental inspection. I wanted to make sure this was documented so that it couldn't be potentially blamed on me. It was hard to photograph in a clear way. The customer service agent said that "they already knew about it" but asked me as the customer to just "trust" that they wouldn't ding me for it later., The worry of potentially being hit with a fee is a crappy feeling. I reserved my truck for a 6am pickup using the 24/7 options. I arrived at the location and the app said i needed to return at 9am when they open for an in-person pickup. I reserved the loading dock at my business downtown as well as hired help for this early morning move and this was extremely frustrating. I arrived back at 9am and was told that this location doesn't offer 24/7 because of theft etc but at NO POINT did anything think of contacting me to let ME KNOW!!!???? Unacceptable. I made a reservation for a 5x8 a month before the pick up date and it ended up being unavailable the morning I went to pick it up. I then spent the next 2 hours searching for an alternative. The best Uhaul could do was locate a 4x8 30 minutes away. I ended up going that route but was pretty unhappy as I lost 2.5 hours of moving time and ended up having to leave a few things behind that I thought id be able to take. The whole experience was pretty frustrating to say the least. That said, the people I spoke with were very nice, just unable to really do anything to rectify the situation.Douglas H.

The location on 35th ave sw in Seattle was great. However the. first location I was sent to was not an actual uhaul location and I wound up having to go back and get the truck and take it to the location on 35th. I had suggested the 35th ave location to the rep and instead they directed me to another location and put that address in my reservation. I took the truck there parked it and did the online check out. When I completed that process I found no drop box to place the key so I held on to it and called CS to see what they wanted me to do with the key. 60 min wait to talk to customer service and they told then told me to go back and get the truck because that was not an actual uhaul location they had sent me to. They reversed my drop off and I had to complete it all again at the 2nd location. Staff was great onsite. The rep that updated my reservation to a location that wasn't actually a drop off - not so much. Spent three hours doing what should have been a 15 minute task.Corrina W.

Upon returning the vehicle, my husband was asked what he hit that damaged the top of the vanâ€"a place we could not see from the ground and never even thought to look at when checking for preexisting damage at pick up. With the exception of a stop at a Public Storage facility with garage clearance designed for much larger trucks, we drove the van outdoors and did not pass under any place with low clearance. We caused no damage, and the return interactions were most unpleasant. It soured what had been a positive experience until then.Constance B.

The West Seattle crew is always very helpful and courteous. TM 1624 had seen better days as the driver's door wouldn't close all the way, ran great otherwise. You guys fucked us over so bad, in so many ways, it's bullshit. First off, I showed up to learn the item we reserved was not available at this location and we were not notified and the reservation guarantee was not honored . Second, once we did find where we were to go the price we were quoted was no where near what they charged. The the trailer did not actually work so they charged us $1200 for an item we didn't need and wasn't compatible . Our tow system was 5,000 lbs and the trailer and car we well over this causing an unsafe driving . It also caused our gas price to go through the roof and almost DIE! We were then directed to drop off the uhaul over 120 miles from where we requests and took hours of phone conversations to fix - it was bait and switch and Breach of contractJoseph L.

Site had 10+ cargo vans and many pickups but could not allow West Seattle to Everett, 30 mile one way trip to move some furniture. I had to drive 30 miles to the uhaul place, get the uhaul, drive 30 miles in the uhaul to my destination, and then drive 30 miles back. That was my bad for not ensuring I had a reservation, but with the number of parked vans on the property it was definitely irritating to have to drive the van 30 miles more/ 1hr20min more than I needed.Sabrina K.

The description for my unit is misleading. I only reserved this unit because the listing said there's an elevator to my unit. I still have to use stairs. There is also a rat trap in my unit. regarding my ranking of no on question y (recommending) u-haul storage - i would totally recommend based on Q1 thru Q5, but in my situation the rank is solely a cost reason. $194/mo is high for my needs (i really don't care too much about the contents anyway, and locker is bigger than necessary).... For no reason they always had a lock on our storage unit when I ALWAYS paid on time. The original worker I talked to said that paying on the day it was due meant it was late (excuse me?), another coworker over heard this and told him that wasn't true and they shouldn't be locking our things. They got into an argument in front of us. Every time we had to have them unlock our unit they took their time and made us wait around 30 minutes. When we checked in with our key card the alarm guaranteed would still go off every time, but also no one ever checked on us when it did go off, so the staff just truly doesn't care or checks on anyones unit when the alarms go off. The automatic lights turn off after 2 minutes, so when we were in our storage unit we would have to run down the hallway every two minutes for the lights to turn back on. The layout was terrible and was impossible to quickly get our things since there was no ramp to roll our things down from the second floor with. We had to carry our items to the bottom of the stairs and then wheel them to our car. On our last day there, there was one worker who was in charge of the storage units and she has been the only helpful worker for the few years I have had to use this facility, I wish I got her name (but it is whoever is in charge of storage currently (9/27/21)) and she is the only one who seemed to follow any process or protocol. When she tried any protocol it seemed all the other co workers there were "too cool" or maybe just high, and would get in her way to do the right thing. She asked the red-headed guy with the beanie behind the counter if anyone did a final check on our storage unit, and he replied "whatever they're just going to sign." The thing was, we were waiting at our unit for someone to come check because they said they were sending an employee to do so, after waiting 30 minutes a different worker came up to tell us we had to move our car because they needed it for a truck (even he was abrasive, and did not wear a mask and we had to ride in an elevator with him.) On our way back up to move our car is when the red headed employee just told us to sign, so we were very confused that he made us wait 30 minutes next to our unit at all just to sign a paper that our unit was "checked." Move in was very easy but little information is provided as to where you need to enter. It also states vastly different hours on the website than reality. It was a major consideration when renting the unit only to find out it is limited to business hours, not the stated after hours access. I feel deceived and therefore do not feel I should be paying as much as I am. It is much harder for me to use this unit without the stated hours. Overall experience at the facility was great. The negative is that I had to drive there to confirm/'rent now' for the booking. The online system only 'reserved' but not guaranteed the booking - that felt misleading and created a sense of unease had I not followed up prior to the date I expected my reserved two storage units to be available. The gentlemen I spoke with showed on his end the two units I reserved but they were not visible for me to rent now online so I had to drive there to complete the booking. I am hoping to get a different unit. It was not clear to me in the online process that there is no elevator access to my unit and the instructions to access the unit were not specific to this facility. Knowing how to get into the storage area is unclear. There are available carts but the entry had a clock curb which makes the carts useless. I ended having to load and unload my items multiple times to even get them from my car to the unit because of the curb and the stairs. My comments are based on 5-6 years of renting units from Uhaul and for the most part having awful experiences be the norm instead of the exception. The current manager has been exceptionally polite, professional, and helpful - Uhaul would be lucky to keep him. The flooding of my unit was handled poorly, but worst of all was the management's treatment of me at that time when I was not the cause of the flooding and damage to my stuff. I should have been compensated properly for the damage to my stuff, but I just am too exhausted to do all the work that should have been done by Uhaul to get reimbursed properly. It would have been nice if Uhaul had actually given me free rent for a while after that happened considering I was a customer for years and was a customer for years afterwards. The $500 wasn't nearly adequate to compensate for the damage and stress it caused. It would be nice if the hours to access our units were extended to 8pm, but it doesn't matter personally since I no longer have a unit. I am glad that the location hasn't shut down as it is convenient for all of us in West Seattle. I hope the friendlier service under the new manager is kept up - it's a nice change. In the past employees often were not trained adequately and couldn't do fundamental tasks involved in the job and it was extremely frustrating if a manager wasn't around to handle it. Labor day weekend monday. James helped me knowledgeable. He took care of me other rentals returning rentals. Propane tank filled he got me a locker perfect. This man was only employee there. You can never find the staff. The only time anyone has been somewhat friendly was today when I was moving out. The young female working was awesome but I didn't get a name. The youngish male was rude, snarky and completely unhelpful. He seemed to be some sort of supervisor. Also, I emailed and called the manager several times for help, due to Covid-19, in possibly waiving any late fees. I have always paid my storage, every month. I don't accrue late fees. The letters sent if someone was a day or so late were appalling. Threatening and on no way customer oriented. Just rude. The unit was too expensive given how many units you have to rent, and on a corner street that is less than desirable. Even the "Please note" below is unacceptable given the world we live in now.
