two issues: 1 - I brought the truck back one day early and the agent confirmed I would only be charged one day, not two per reservation. Yet I was charged for two days. 2 - the truck was clean with exception of a few leaves in the truck. Should have taken 30 seconds to blow sweep out but I didn't have broom upon dropoff. Was charged $60 cleaning fee which is absurd.

ROBERT WThe facility and storage unit was appropriate and fit our needs very well. The app has been very usual as well. Unfortunately, the ever changing staff were poorly trained (if at all), unable to thoroughly and accurately address the our basic questions without asking the manager, who was rarely there or available, or ask us to contact corporate or comeback at another time for an answer. Not a one time experience I'm afraid. Lastly and lately, it's become harder to identify who works there as few staff wear any U-Haul identifiable clothing or badge. And over the weekend, the person working was tossing football around the parking lot with his friends when we tried to simply buy a few storage boxes. No customer service, poorly trained, and clearly they don't want to be there. Makes for a poor customer experience with a company that provides a valuable service.

JEFFERY LThis location was about 15 miles and a 30 minute drive through traffic from my destination. The one I chose was about 10 minutes away but midway through my trip Uhaul changed the drop-off. When I arrived at the new location the two attendants said they would be with me in a minute, 15 minutes later I had to chase one down to tell me where to drop the trailer. There was only one customer ahead of me so I'm not sure what the issue was . Once I got their attention, it took less than 5 minutes to get checked out and drop the trailer.
THOMAS ATruly, this was the worst rental experience I've ever had. Within 24 hours of my move, the pick up location changed 3 times. I had reserved the truck 2 weeks prior to move date and I only got notified that my truck wasn't going to be available at the first location the day before. Then I settled for a different truck size at an entirely different location. When I arrived there day of move, the requested truck was unavailable for mobile pick up, and the location owners were not answering phones. I called U-Haul and they said I would have to go to a third location. this delayed my move by about four hours and when I got to the third location, they didn't have any of the move equipment that I rented. The Sweeten Creek location also was incredibly slow and inefficient. I learned my lesson that U-Haul is unreliable and shouldn't be trusted with time sensitive requests and rentals.
NOLAN TMake sure the equipment is ready to go by reservation time. My first truck was missing a gas cap and had a check engine light on, and it was checked out to me. I had to wait and then have another truck checked out.

KARL LI had ordered a set of lifting straps that they did not have in stock on the day of my arrival. I asked different employees to help me find them and they couldn't. I accidentally payed for the wrong size mattress bag, and it took nearly 15 minutes to not get a refund because it the system wouldn't take my card.

ROBERT MGetting the unit quickly became a hassle. Initially reserved online but wasn't made aware that meant I had to check in during business hours, which resulted in being unable to unload the truck the day I reserved the unit and requiring an extra day with the truck. Upon going to the facility to check in in person the next day I was given a unit number which wasn't the size I'd reserved/requested. When I went back to the desk I was told they didn't have one the size I needed. After trying other storage locations I returned and spoke with a different employee who gave me a unit in the size I'd originally requested, magically there were four now. I'm not sure if it's better training on the storage portion of the job that is needed or just encouraging employees to look for what's requested instead of just saying you don't have it. But regardless the entire situation was disappointing and frustrating. The unit itself, once we got the right size, was totally fine and served the intended purpose.

Donald WThere were two people working to check-in multiple parties either for pick-up or returns of equipment and this was insufficient. I along with other parties stood in line for over an hour to facilitate our transactions. The trailer that I had reserved could not be found and so i was given an alternate. It took the two attendants to lift the trailer onto the hitch, these were the same tow people working inside. There was no designated yard crew for this purpose. Overall it took much too much of my time even though all the information was saved in the reservation on my made on-line. And I have rented from U-Haul many times in the past. The drop off location is and was a disaster, in Wilmington, NC specifically in Castle Hayne at the ES Mart. One woman was running the show there with no help to unhitch trailers. The tongue weight was too heavy for me alone, so she said to go to the service station across [a very busy & wide road] to ask for a jack and help to unhitch the trailer. I did so because she could not go and leave the store. Fortunately, I found the help that was needed. This U=Haul drop-off & pick-up location is an absolute disaster: dirty, ill equipped, run-down and poorly staffed! Way to go U-Haul for setting the low standard. America sucks! We have created and accepted the lowest standards. Time to step it up to a quality level or just don't go out of business and save the consumer the frustration of dealing with your corporation!

Becky W | Overall ExperienceThe trailer that was assigned at the register wasn't visible present so another was assigned in the lot and the Uhaul worker said he would change it inside but apparently he didn't. When I brought the trailer back, it was cold out so the Uhaul worker asked if I could park and unhook the trailer myself while he went inside and checked the trailer in for me but apparently he didn't. I received a call from corporate Uhaul about a week later asking me to return the trailer even though it was already returned. Luckily, I took photos of the trailer at the lot upon return. I will be using a different rental company from now on.
SHAUN RWhen a person has a reservation for certain items on a specific day they should hold those items inside of truck rental first thing upon opening that day. I ordered an appliance dolly. When I got to location he said he had already given out all the dollies that morning so I didn't get one. I was emptying an entire full house so not having a dolly was very difficult. You didn't have any close at other locations as well. The man that waited on me was indifferent about it as well. Didn't even apologize. He was like I don't know what to tell I gave them all out this morning. Very disappointed!!

JARED EBy the time we got a trailer at Sweeten creek we had been to the original one in canton. Was scheduled for a 12 noon pick up. Got there at 10:30. No one there , gate locked and would not answer the phone at 1230 called the customer service , got passed to 3 reps then sent to Clyde and tried two trailers the lights on the trailer wouldn't work. So then called customer service again sent to sweeten creek where they had a trailer and hitch service person who installed the hitch and wiring was. Come to find out a fuse was blown, he fixed. Then the first trailer he gave us lights wouldn't work finally the next one did by that time it was 3 :30 pm. We were to leave the next day and we spent all day trying to get this resolved. Now where we returned the trailer today. This person was very organized and we were done in less than 10 minutes. The U-Haul site in Canton should be closed. We had talked with that man several times that week before Sunday. So it wasn't that he didn't know we were coming and he had our reservation. Not a very good experience I must say.

It is plain to see that Schedulers / those who answer the phone and get you to your next steps, do not talk with each other. Once given the order number, different people had different information and almost never correct. I am really surprised that you are still in business. I am very disappointed in the execution of everything. Besides being a week late, scheduling delivery's to perinate location was simply crazy. Every conversation I had with you guys was like starting over. I am requesting a reimbursement and will not use this service again. I ended up taking what was given to me rather than my needs being meet. Very disappointing and stressful time especially when moving across country. Not Happy... THOMAS MI requested an appliance dolly to use for my move and when I got to the location they said that they didn't have any available and that it would be taken off my agreement. I was told that I could go to another location to get one or I could buy one at this location. Honestly kinda made me very disappointed. Why let me request one online the night before when I made the reservation and when I get to the location not have one for me to use. The money has yet to go back to my account for the difference of the appliance dolly. Definitely won't be using take again for any kind of move.
Wesley DThe agents were informed that the truck had the check engine light on. They said the truck was OK to drive with the light on. The equipment that was ordered were not available and the blankets were not given to us. I've rented from here before and received better service.
JAMES ANot the best customer service experience. Staff was not very cooperative, instructions were misleading at times (we found out after we dropped off), some equipment that appeared available in the store online was not actually there.

The return lane said to wait in the truck for checkin, but even after the employee finished playing on his phone he still did not acknowledge us or come out to check us in despite that we were waiting about 15 feet away. Should be easy but it was a hassle all the way around.

I had no attitude when we first started so there was no need to have an attitude when talking to me. Also the woman I talked to had said I called earlier in the day and sent me to the customer service. This was untrue and made me have to do an extra step when all u really wanted was to cancel the payment and maybe get a refund for the two months I was not using the U-Box and was charged for.

SUSAN JEach time I've been here lately (three times since December), there's always something: some worker lying all over the furniture/moving products, someone with a questionably helpful attitude, food splayed all over the counter while eating and greeting customers, or a worker cursing in front of customers. I am not bothered by these things, but others would be. It's a bit unprofessional and off-putting. Also, there are times when there are no dollies available, and I think maybe there should be one per vehicle. But thank you. You've been mostly reliable and usually have a truck available, even last-minute.

April SThis U-Haul Storage facility has quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever seen. With the exception of one employee named James, every other person there is completely inept, habitually absent, and occasionally downright hostile. During the course of my renting a unit there, I was unable to get a prepaid debit card that I was forced to have mailed there for lack of any other permanent address. The mailbox was locked, and (in spite of their assurances to the contrary) I was never given the letter containing two weeks pay, since I never could check the mail myself. Pushing the issue escalated to the point where one of the black thugs who worked there got into a shouting argument with me at one point. Calling the cops didn't help because they weren't interested in getting to the bottom of the matter. Then, I was told I had to vacate the property in a week's time. I did finally manage to vacate and move to another far cheaper unit, and U-Haul still tried to charge my prepaid debit card for several months long after they knew I was long gone. Again, it's one of the worst run businesses I've ever had the displeasure to run into from the manager on down to the rest of mostly black riff raff, who pretend to work there but in reality are just collecting an undeserving paycheck.

Unfortunately I cannot find her name but she is an African American women. I asked if she could help me check in bc it doesn't always work on the app. She rolled her eyes and goes I guess. SALLI GBEWARE OF THIS U-HAUL LOCATION AT 3161 SWEETEN CREEK RD!!!! PLEASE READ FOR YOUR SAFETY!!! I picked up my equipment on January 18, 2025 at 8:30 AM. This is my second time renting a U-Haul from this location. I've usually don't like going there because it's so dirty and the door doesn't have a handle. After picking up my truck I drove it about 15 miles to my old address. I was moving to Greenville South Carolina so that's about 55 miles + away from Asheville. After getting my truck loaded, I started to head to South Carolina and the truck started to stall, and then it broke down on the side of the highway. After speaking to roadside assistance, they sent PIERCE TIRE AND SERVICE CENTER (TRYON WAS THE NAME OF THE SERVICE TECH) he told me all I needed was fuel. I went to the gas station and filled the U-Haul with a full tank. I became hesitant after my first experience and didn't understand how that could happen because the U-Haul was at a quarter tank, I pleaded with him and ask him are you sure the U-Haul's OK to drive I'm going all the way to South Carolina and he told me "it should be". I Started driving about 10 miles and this time the U-Haul started to vibrate, stalled out on me and almost left me in the middle of traffic so then I was stranded again on the side of the road. I tried to get off at the next exit which was exit 53 but the vehicle jolted and terrified me. I ended up having to drive on the side of the shoulder just in case the truck shut off on me. After that experience and barely making it to the Cracker Barrel parking lot, I was not going to drive that car again because I knew in my gut and from my short experience in the vehicle that it was NOT SAFE. I sat in that parking lot for over four hours because they would not send someone to tow the car because TYRON FROM "PIERCE TIRE AND SERVICE CENTER" kept telling them that the vehicle was safe to drive after recently putting my life at risk. After the third hour, they sent a second technician and within five minutes there were three codes that came up on the vehicle and he told me I wouldn't of made it 5 miles(I have picture and video evidence). This location put me in a truck that put my life at risk and if I didn't have enough sense to stand up for myself and not drive the vehicle again I know I definitely wouldn't made it to South Carolina, but I also don't know if I would still be alive today. This was complete negligence on U-Haul part but specifically this location. It's clear whoever was supposed to inspect the vehicle to make sure they were in safe driving conditions drop the ball and did not do their job! What I went through that day nobody deserves to go through. I'm still traumatized from sitting on the side of the highway by myself and having my family calling me worried about me and my safety. Everyone is to blame in this situation and I'm still waiting for U-Haul to make it right specifically this location at 3161 sweeten creek rd. I have already submitted all my documents for reimbursement through roadside assistance customer Service as I was directed to and I still haven't received a call. I am completely disgusted. I will never rent a U-Haul from this location again, but I don't think I would ever rent a U-Haul again in my life after what I experienced. I missed my movers in greenville and had to add two extra days moving items back-and-forth because of this inconvenience. The toll that this took on my body and my mind was completely unfair to me. U-HAUL THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS MAKE IT RIGHT!

LAURIE BAs a general matter, customer service skills in this facility are sorely lacking. The representatives there act like they don't care whether you choose to do business with them or not and appear to feel no need to behave in a professional manner. As to the installation specifically, my car now makes a rattling sound like something is loose in back that it did not make when I dropped it off this morning. I will take it to the dealership as soon as it's possible to get an appointment to find out what damage was done and if it's expensive to fix, I will be filing a claim for reimbursement. Since the management and representatives clearly don't care about my business, they won't be getting it again and I will make sure that I strongly urge anyone I know who is thinking about doing business with this location to avoid it and look for another service provider.

Juanita B | First ImpressionsI rented a "mobile pick up" turns out this location is not a mobile pick up. This significantly delayed the process having to renter all of my information at the counter. I also rented a storage unit. They had to reassign me THREE times because each unit they assigned me was illegally occupied or they "overbooked" it was absolutely ridiculous. I was late to meet my movers because of this. They also did not have the size truck I needed and gave me a much larger one which was very difficult to drive. After dropping off the truck and returning the keys in the drop. I get a notification from uhaul to my phone saying I needed to "complete the mobile drop off" asking for photos of the inside of the vehicle which I can not access because the keys are in the drop box. This was by far the most HORRIBLE uhaul experience and I have used and trusted uhaul over the years. If the location does not offer mobile pick up service, do not advertise for it. The employees were very friendly and helpful, this was a system error and needs to be FIXED!

It wasn't until we went to our storage unit after a heavy rain that we saw water standing in our unit and on the hallway floor. RARELY onsite and never returns phone calls. I had a billing dispute that went on for nearly a month in which I was billed TWO MONTHS ahead of time and was classified as being late. When I brought this to the manager's attention when I could finally find her at work, I was told yes, my bill was messed up. Just ignore it. Made NO effort to correct or assist in anyway and was mostly rude about it. I was receiving past due and lien notifications and late charges, I was told those came from Arizona. I FINALLY resolved the issue by going over her head to the District Manager in Spartanburg and her assistant took care of it in less than a minute. Would HIGHLY recommend reconsidering the manager's employment with U-Haul. Will question using U-Haul services ever again based on this experience. Worse U-Haul facility I ever dealt with and have used U-Haul multiple times over the years. Will advise others NOT to use this facility.

To be clear water was everywhere leaking in the climate controlled facility I also just received an email saying that there are outstanding charges for my transaction which is not accurate

This facility never returned a call and never really answered the phone. They only reached out through email or text message; regardless if you called in. Staff was fine, but they couldn't help make decisions on late payments, financial hardship assistance or anything that was of value to the customer.

When the manager that was there when we first rented the unit , Ty was there; much better customer service. Personal care and compassion. Not now. They offered no help or assistance when we asked; even for a fee which we would have gladly paid. We were told " sorry we don't do that". Disappointing for the price people pay for monthly storage.

Ultimately we had to take the more expensive unit because we had to unload our belongings. We were never informed during the online reservation that the units are basically a wait list. We we told this by the GM on the phone as we were waiting. This in our opinion is poor business practice. On a positive note, your employee, Jeff, was outstanding! He helped in every way he possibly could to accommodate our needs. He went above and beyond. He is the type of employee that we don't see much of these days and should be commended for his hard work and positive demeanor.

The storage facility itself is not very well climate maintained, there are rat traps in them and one in my unit which was not very desirable but it was only option at the time. The night we moved out a garage door was stuck open which anyone could have walked in. Outside units were left open one of which had things inside of, and one was empty. I would recommend this U-Haul location to anyone looking to rent equipment but not for self storage.

My bad experience was at Swannanoa River location. However, I had to give Dion at Sweeten Creek all my information over again as if I was not in the UHaul system. Dion was helpful and understood how frustrated, tired and angry I was at being turned away after I had a reservation. BAD EXPERIENCE.

She shared with me she was leaving the company and complained about her co-workers. She asked me for my phone number but told me it wasn't in the system but then found it. She asked me for a photo of my ID and texted me the link but it was already in the system. She took me to my unit but it was filled with stuff. She again complained about her coworkers. She found me a vacant unit thru an app on her phone and when she went to open it, a loud alarm went off. I'm sure that she knew that would happen so a heads up would have been appropriate as it was loud and I was startled and a little annoyed at the amount of mis-steps I was experiencing. She did not tell me the hours of access which are also not listed online so I had to call to find out. Upon leaving, I stopped into the storage areas restroom to wash my hands and the soap dispenser was missing the part where you push to get soap out. That means people have to fumble around to make it work, contaminating the soap dispensers inner workings with their dirty hands. Come on Uhaul, you can do better. Not sure if this is standard, but an employee had hosed off his car in the front of the building. The gal helping me whined to the guy that she wanted her car washed bec/ it had been 4 years which made me wonder what the inside of her car must be like. I also learned that I can't get another month free of storage after I rent another truck in the coming weeks. She tried to explain it to me but she started talking about a nearby Uhaul location but referred to it as Sweeten Creek which I thought was the location I was at which made me question if I was at the location I initially wanted to store things at. I was at Sweeten Creek so I'm not sure what she was talking about but I'm disappointed to hear that if I rent one way trucks two different times, I only get one month free of storage and that you offer to first month free to people who don't rent trucks. Most places do but if I knew that with what I know now, I would have searched other storage company options. I usually don't leave reviews but since I received both and email and text message from Uhaul, I thought I should. Not trying to sound like a Karen but Uhaul asked…TWICE so here you go

We waited for the police to arrive (while being told we were trespassing as we waited by the two staff members). We appreciate the Asheville Police Officers service and seeing the silliness of the incident. With increased crime in this area such an inappropriate use of the Officers service. When dealing with staff at my pick up location, it was a horrible experience and if I hadn't needed to use their service, I would have walked out and I have rented from uhual SEVERAL times in the past. The truck had issues and had a gas issue. It cost me over $1,100 in gas to drive 3200 miles in a 20ft truck which is completely unheard of. I have made this trip several times and NEVER had the issues I had this time. Pick up staff didn't care about the truck and it's gas (and break) issues and hung up on me. The staff here, though they couldn't do anything to change what happened on the west coast, were very sincere and very kind. Their storage units are clean and climate controlled and VERY secure. I would definitely recommend this location for both storage and moving. Thank you for making the end of my trip stress free!

I had a storage unit here for 20 months with zero issues and always always helpful staff were on hand should I need it. I also rented a truck 4 times from them and no problems there either. I wish there was somewhere to leave recycling (cardboard and paper) without a charge to me but I would still highly recommend this facility to anyone.

It is also unreasonable to enforce a specific type of lock that has to be bought at the uhaul facility.
