There was only 1 worker so I would wait in line forever. I came at 4:13 to the storage unit and there was a green lock. I went to go find someone to unlock it and by 4:40 I finally was able to get a key. Returning my van and getting a new lock took another thirty minutes of waiting. I only finally left the Uhaul at 6. I tried to call main Uhaul phone line to change my drop-off location as I was directed by the manager at the pickup location. I was never able to get through to a person. I worked with the Ivan, Manny, Juan team. They were great - polite without being condescending, friendly, professional. Got a hitch installed, rented a trailer, everything worked great. They double checked that everything worked, communicated clearly. Thanks to the IMJ team, I was able to rescue my kid's broken down motorcycle. In addition, the little things count. I had to wait in the store while the hitch was installed, since it was my only car. They got me a chair from behind the counter, so I would have to sit in the floor while I waited. Picking up the uhaul was awful. The guy had no idea what he was doing - he merged my two separate reservations and tried to charge me $400 to rent the uhaul for 3 hours. The next day, I got charged a $50 cleaning fee when the uhaul had a lot of dirt and leaves in the back when we picked it up. I called to ask what this cleaning fee is for and the guy on the phone was shocked that I was charged $50 because the most they ever charge for cleaning is $25. Luckily the man on the phone was very helpful and refunded me the $50 charge and also fixed my upcoming reservation that's the previous worker had messed up.Bridget O.

I was mis-lead and told a million different things from uhual. I was told my u-box would be shipped within 12 hours of it being loaded - I needed my u-box there earlier and was promised that. I specifically asked to put it in 12 hours prior to pick up so my mattress and clothes wouldnt sit in florida heat and HUMIDITY. Then it was "put in the wrong box" and I was told this by u-hual. I called and spoke to uhual minimum 15 times, explained my self for endless hours, submitted reports for my supposedly lost uhual, i changed y movers and lost depsit, I paid for airbnbs because I was mis informed by everyone. IA uhual agent told me that I wouldn't have to pay, and then Uhual charged my card. I am beynd UPSET. I am a Boston realtor and we refer uhual to hundreds of tenants, manage the largest rental database in north end. I am EXTREMELY disappointed, I have cried and begged for help and the entire experience was a disaster. I want to get a lawyer but honestly I am too exhausted from such a draining experience. I truly deserve and apology, no one ever got back to me regarding my reports supposedly filed from y'alls agents. My 6 month old mattress smells now, my clothes were damp, had to get everything dry cleaned and I could go on and on.Katherine C.

Nothing against this location or it's incredibly kind associates who spoke with me! U-Haul itself gave me a difficult day. My drop off location being changed via text message with little warning (after I'd paid to drop it off close to home) made the experience much more difficult. Especially considering I was told by a U-Haul rep (at HQ, not this location, where, again, everyone was lovely and helpful) that the reason was that both Somerville locations had too many trucks. My new drop off location was almost impossible to park at due to having a full fleet.Cory C.

The staff are beyond excellent. Super friendly get you set up and on your way quickly. They make sure that you are prepared to use their equipment and take the time to walk you through the check-in processes. The pick-up went well and I really liked the truck, which was clean and the fuel was full. The team there was friendly and helpful. The only issue was that about 100 miles into the trip, I noticed that there were no windshield wipers. It wasn't that the wipers didn't work, but that the blades were entirely missing. As we know with moving, things can take longer than expected to load/unload so I'm extremely grateful that U-Haul was able to extend my rental drop-off by a couple hours. That being said, when trying to return the rental, I was unclear with the drop-off protocol. It was 5pm and there were a couple people ahead of me and a couple people behind me with one person working who was on what sounded like a personal call on speaker phone. After waiting for 10-15 min, the man behind me frustratingly asked if he could just leave the keys in the truck and the worker said yes, so I followed suit and hoped for the best. When I called Customer services were great, the woman that answer the phone was very polite, friendly, and professional. Same when I picked up the vehicle. Unfortunately on the return the male that was at the desk was not friendly or helpful, I asked for a receipt and he said that I was getting an e.mail in ten minutes and, it seems like he was bother with my presence. After finally locating the office for service, I located a staff member who seemed bored throughout the process. He achieved the task of helping me find an available space--which is hard enough with UHaul--but refused to do provide any service beyond what seemed like a rotely memorized routine. When he asked, "Anything else?" I responded, "Could you please help me move this item into my unit?" He then said, "We don't do that here. We don't move things in." And left it at that. I then struggled for the next few minutes to lift my hefty suitcase into an upper-level compartment with only a spindly step ladder on wheels to assist me. It was dangerous. I could have fallen backward. My final struggle was with the lock, but I was able to find a second staff member at that time who was much friendlier and professional. It may not have been in his job description, but he took time to step away from his desk and resolve the lock issue for me. Hi! my name is Justino. I went in to Somerville Uhaul office yesterday after reservation online. I made the reservation to move in on Sunday 9/27/20. When I got there, I saw a girl at the office, instead of helping she asked her coworker Edgar Lopez who just walked in from outside to take over and help me because she wanted to use the restroom, Edgar was in the middle of doing something outside but came over and started helping when she popped out of the so called bathroom she claimed she went. Edgar almost finished with the contract and was telling me the amount to pay to move in when I was explaining to him that I was supposed to have one month free according to my reservation and I have a proof of it. That was when the girl jumped in saying "no that's not true because I was here last time when you came in and my boss told you you need to rent a truck one way before getting one month free. I told her that's right but this is the proof that I'm qualified for one month free according to my reservation. she didn't want to hear it. Then I pulled my phone out and trying to provide the picture evidence I have, she said:"even if you have a picture to prove it we're not going to do it". However Mr Lopez Edgar took his time and listened to me and saw the evidence I showed him then advised me to come back the next day and see his manager because he's the only person who can approve the one month free rent. I got out of the office and decided to contact the manager because I'm used to that office and I know the former manager George and the current one manny. I sent a text message to Manny and told him the story of the girl been too harsh. Manny took his time to document everything and then recommended me to JUAN BAUTISTA and asked me to go back there and see him for the contract. I went back to the office and Juan took care of the issue and resolved it and assigned me the unit that I reserved which happened to be at the upper level. I told him it's too high for me to load heavy things up there and he reassured me that if anything becomes available at the lower lever I can switch to that lower level unit. I was so happy with the excellent customer service provided by Manny the manager, Juan B. and Edgar Lopez. All a customer needs sometimes is attention and be listened to and be advised when the service he or she is requesting cannot be provided. That's what Edgar Lopez did. And Manny as a team leader proved his leadership by asking a talented team member JUAN BAUTISTA to care of the issue which he resolved with an excellent level of service which brights my day.Justino A. | First Impressions
While the staff was helpful, the design of the storage units are horrendous. Why are there overhead storage units? This defeats the convenience in paying for storage units. Nowhere on the online booking tool was o warned there were overhead units at lower cost and floor units were $40 more!
