After attempting to reserve a van online through uhaul website, we discovered the location of the office was closed and the phone number disconnected. We attempted to switch the reservation via customer service to a different location with an office and were provided truly terrible service there right off the bat. The employee refused to let us pick up the reserved vehicle despite the card holder being present. The employee refused us service when we asked what the problem was and refused to hear us out in order to try to figure out the problem. By the time we ended up at this third location, we were just thankful to finally have a vehicle to use 2 and a half hours after the initial reservation. The first two locations were 715 4th st in Oakland and 530 international blvd in Oakland (seriously I'm not one to complain but the employee present treated us like crap for no reason. ) This final location listened to our concerns, and had us in a vehicle in less than 20 minutes with no issues and it was very much appreciated. I'm an international student studying at UC Berkeley, and I needed a place to store all of my dorm items after having to go back to my home country because of Covid. U-haul was the best option when I took into consideration the services being offered, and the pricing of the unit was very affordable for what it was. I had a one way rental from east sf bay to southern Cal with a pick up adjacent to Rockridge BART station. Got there and was told truck was unavailable. Called customer service and rep insisted they had nothing else available. I had paid people waiting to load the truck and then she insisted I use a 10 ft. Truck which definitely would not hold my load. She was adamant there was nothing she could do for me unless I took the 10 ft. Truck. I told her I wanted to speak to a supervisor. She then said he was in a meeting. I said I would wait for him. She put me on hold for 10 minutes and finally came back off hold and said she found a truck about a mile from the BART collosium station. Though I was grateful. I then had to get to another location to get what I was looking for. I was not grateful for her attitude and my having to insist on speaking with a supervisor to get her to look around and find something. She actually initially told me there was nothing available within 50 miles.antonio F.

Staff couldn't provide my booked rental truck to pick up a UBox due to limited vehicles. Another staff member had a very hard time working the computer system and needed constant support from another team member. The process to check out my rental took over an hour of in-store work. Reserved 26' truck a few weeks in advance, but a day before the reservation, a representative said 26' truck is no longer available. Instead offered 15' truck, which altered my plan entirely. Additionally, the representative changed from Alameda to Oakland location. On the day of the pick-up, no dolly was available. The truck was not cleaned and not well maintained. Your website is awful. We made a reservation that was not honored. A day before our pick up we got a call that the truck we reserved did not exist. The representative signed us up for a truck over an hours drive away without confirming that we wanted it. We got a smaller truck in Oakland 45 minutes from our desired location. Your early check in did not work. I sent my license info in repeatedly, I send photos of my license in repeatedly. I called to rent a Van. They said they had one and i said dont i have to reserve it? They said no just come in. I gave my name and drove there. I waited in line to find out the one van needed to be back In 1-1/2 hrs. I couldn't do that so i had to take a truck. It was 3:30pm. Getting late. The manager of your company, a man named. Marlon or something rather was rude. As well as another women there. He took my drivers license and went around back with my boyfriend to hook trailer up. Long story short the trailer lights wouldn't work due to my truck. No problem. I left my ID there because I never got it back from that gentleman. I called and then they said nobody ever grab my ID that I lost it. I told him I was going to raise some hell because I know I gave it to that man. They ended up calling me back 20 minutes later saying they found it on the ground outside. Then saying I must've dropped it but inside the store I handed The Man my ID. I live in concord and had to drive back and I want compensation for my gas and time. Sergio on the other hand was amazing. He took the time to take care of my mom and I when we came to pick up my licenses. He got a trailer hooked up for us and all the lights worked. My storage experience was fine. The people who work there were hit-or-miss, in regards to politeness. My issue is with a "reservation" for a truck I had made that u-haul cancelled the night before. I even called a week earlier to confirm the reservation. My mother in-law had flown across the country to help us move, our entire place was packed and then I get a COMPLETELY unapologetic cancellation and have to deal with corporate for 45 minutes to no avail. I've been a storage customer of yours FOR YEARS. When I called the your local branch on Friday evening in tears, I was all but hung up on. I'm appalled. You left a huge stain on a very big moment for my family and I. I will submit a formal grievance, and have told anyone who has asked that u-haul is to be avoided. My experience with the staff at this location was great. You've hired really helpful people. My experience with U Haul in general was AWFUL. The website listed our preferred pick up address for the truck we were renting as one location, but it didn't tell us where the truck actually was. The app said another address. I called the night before and the woman I spoke with said the app location was the correct location to pick up the truck. In the morning, almost at the app location and on time, I opened the app to begin check in only to find that the app now listed the truck at different location a 30 minute drive away. Driving over in rush hour traffic, I called ahead. The person I spoke with said they did have the size truck we reserved but someone else had already reserved it for 2pm, even though we made our reservation a week before. After I pushed back they said we could have it for the hours we'd reserved (9am to 5pm). It was ridiculous and stressful and we got a much later start because getting all the way to the new location and back again added a good hour and half onto our morning, and an additional hour of driving when I returned it. Additionally I think someone was supposed to call me to tell me where the truck was going to be for pick up and no one ever did. What a horrible system. I'll be going out of my way to never use u haul again, and will warn others off.Tessa E.

I had to wait almost THREE hours in the sun, after having my reservation canceled by uhaul at the last moment twice, this place was able to help me. People walking around with out masks, employees super disgruntled walking in and out with out a mask. NO ACCOMMODATION of people with immune compromised who are not able to enter buildings without serious risk of contracting covid and dying, NO reason the entire operation could be done outside, but no one is willing to even try and help accommodate you. If I could give u haul negative 5 stars i would. You still owe me a $100 for canceling my reservation twice, and i have spent HOURS on the phone with you people. Treat your employees better!!! Everything was fine until lately. The unit flooded (no fault of them and it was handled) but I was offered free months for my unit etc and then week after week I had issues with them sending me late payment emails and then "going to Lien" emails over and over again despite the manager calling and telling me this "wouldn't happen again and I am handling it" Yesterday was the final time I got such an email and the manager FINALLY actually fixed the issue so she claimed but I don't feel confident in the way this place is run. My move-in experience was terrible. The first issue was that I placed an online reservation for a unit and on the day I try to move in I learn that the unit I reserved is not available and no reservation was made. My only comparable option was a slightly larger unit with higher cost. Because I was in need of storage immediately, I decided I had to sign up for something and accepted the higher cost but was not compensated for the lack of availability and absence of a reserved unit. My second, much worse, issue is that the online office and access hours are WRONG. When we moved in we were not informed that the information online was out of date. We believed we'd have access to our unit until 10pm and come to find out we only had access until 7pm, on the following day it was even earlier - until 5pm only. When I went to confirm this with the office staff all I was told was "the website is wrong." There was no further explanation, no offer of help or accommodation, and from there only frequent reminders that we needed to be done moving in by 7pm. I do not understand how information as important as office and access hours are not updated in all relevant locations and how the staff does not proactively mention this to tenants to account for the gap. Ultimately, I decided to rent this unit because I'd already trucked my items to the location and needed immediate storage, but if I'd had more of a choice I would have gone somewhere else. I received helpful service from the people here, but the process itself was highly stressful and not transparent at all. When booking on the phone, the attendant was very short and only gave me closing hours for the location with no indication of how long the process would take to actually obtain the storage unit. After a very long and stressful drive involving roadside assistance, I arrived just before closing hours on Sunday, only to be told I was too late and would have to leave the loaded truck overnight and unload in the morning. Luckily the staff extended my hours so I could unload the next morning, but the immense stress and disruption of family members' schedules the next day could have been avoided if I had been told anything about the process ahead of time. As for the facilities, the first unit I was shown had not been cleaned, and the one I ultimately chose had some oil stains on the floor, but other than that seemed decently well-maintained and appeared to have plenty of security. I find it odd that the clearance is so low on the storage facilities themselves, since it would make sense for U-Haul trucks to be able to fit down into the U-Haul storage buildings, but I appreciated the carts that were publicly available. Overall, the staff and facilities met my expectations, but please make the process more transparent for first-time movers, including tips and recommendations, and how long to expect the process to take.CHRISTIAN T. | First Impressions

It was the worst customer interaction I have ever had. People at the front desk, they don't know what they are doing. They gave us the wrong unit number and we walked to that unit and when we come back they told us it was the wrong unit. This happened 3 times and on the 4th time, they told us that they don't have any available units on the 2nd floor that's why we need to take the elevator. Went to the office and ask where are the correct keys oh we have them here so things were stolen because they gave the wrong keys out here are some of the items that was stolen and some of my things was stolening. I was very unhappy with the situation boxes was open and things was stolening out and broken. I made reservations for 2 U-boxes, waiting for them to be delivered from Hayward waiting for three days. The facility seems to have discarded and or stolen goods. I have no recourse it would seem. Facility's own pipes burst and flooded the facility to include my unit. The way things played out I'm left feeling as though I paid for someone to take advantage of me and even steal from me both my money and my personal effects (many of which were BRAND NEW and yet to be utilized) but it's a corporation so they are going to protect themselves from liabilities and not always do what is right by customers if it means compensating them or taking a loss to do the right thing. The STRONG feeling of having been taken advantage of and having deep regret that I trusted and paid this uhaul facility to secure and safe store my goods is the reason for my poor rating and STRONG desire to discourage others (especially military families and those who rely heavily on storage facilities with the majority of their property) to trust/utilize another facility and even company for your temporary or long term storage needs. If you don't have trust what is there...? In the end based on the company's insurance company handling me the way they did and how so much of my stuff is missing with no recourse I'm left realizing that when it comes to uhaul I'm just a little person vs. a big cold company. Aside from Uhaul's Marissa Mendez (who is usual's one bright spot) and all her earnest efforts to make things right I have nothing absolutely nothing positive to take away from my experience with uhaul and the Oakland Coliseum storage location/facility.Jonathan J. | Overall Experience
