This was sent to your CEO this morning. ========================================= Good Morning Mr. Schoen, We are Michael and Loretta Servedio. We recently contracted to rent a 15 ft truck to move from the Palm Springs area in CA to Grand Junction, CO. After setting up the rental online we went to a local Uhaul rental facility in our area to speak with a representative about the move and the 15 ft rental we needed. He assured us that although there was no 15 ft truck present at that time, there would be one available before our move date. Two days before the move, I received a call from a representative telling us that they did not have a truck for us. Very upsetting. She said that there was not a one way, 15ft truck, in the entire county. I asked if they could get one here in two days. The reply was No. I told her that this left us totally stuck, without options, 2 days before we needed to move. She apologized. I asked if there was any way they could help us. After substantial prodding, she finally suggested a smaller truck with a trailer attached to it. Left with no choice, we agreed. We picked up the truck and trailer, the morning of Saturday Oct. 9th in Cathedral City, CA. We ordered 2 sets of blankets which were NOT included. We had to return to the facility to pick them up. The contract said the tank was full. Not more than two miles on our way home we realized that the tank was only 3/4 filled. We chose not to return again. This otherwise insignificant detail would later become a clear sign of the problems we were to encounter. We loaded the truck and trailer and set out for Grand Junction early Sunday morning, October 10th. Our first fueling stop was in Barstow, CA. To our shock, gasoline gushed from under the truck spilling all over the ground. Stunned and unable to fuel up the truck, we drove to a local Uhaul dealer in Barstow, but they were unable to help us. We then called the hotline and they sent out an emergency response mechanic. He arrived about an hour later and proceeded to explain that the hose connecting the filler nozzle to the tank had a large cut and he speculated that gas had been siphoned from the truck. He did not have a hose, the Uhaul garage where we were stopped did not have one either. He had to leave and go to get one. Now we understood why the tank was not full when we picked it up. It was already cut when we picked it up at Uhaul in Cathedral City. We live in a gated community so we are sure it did not happen there. From the spill at the fuel station, the truck reeked of gasoline fumes and we were worried that a spark could ignite the fumes. The unplanned stop and the dangerous fuel spillage cost us 3+ hours of precious travel time and caused us to travel hours in the dark. We left early so that we could avoid night travel. Luckily, the technician had a bulb because he noticed that the driver's side headlight was out. The next day we needed to fuel the truck again, but again fuel spilled from the bottom of the truck, although at a lower rate. Clearly the mechanic had only partially repaired the hose problem. With a high level of concern, we managed to put fuel in the truck twice more and enough to get to our destination. The next day we returned the truck with the same level of fuel as when we picked it up. At the return depot we explained our difficult and dangerous journey to the attendant who informed us that they had put our contract "on hold", not sure what that tangibly means. When we look at the final receipt, it now appears that were charged and extra $30 for fuel, despite explaining in detail to the attendant at the receiving location that a) we had picked up the truck with less than 3/4 full tank (we have photos) and b) fueling the truck resulted in spillage under the truck 's cargo area. We are writing to you to bring to your attention the level of careless disregard and lack of fitness in the equipment we were given. As CEO, we think you should be aware of such things. Moving is stressful enough without the added complications of faulty equipment especially while traveling long distance fully loaded. Considering the dangerous conditions and significant stress we had to endure over our long journey, we are asking for total reimbursement of the rental cost, the amount of $1321.31 plus the $30. add on for fuel. U-Haul staff member Jenny Dunn was very pleasant, helpful, and accommodating . i had a professional experience with Jenny. however nothing was wrapped, everything was just thrown into the pod, not packed correctly, things were broken, and there was a lot of wasted space when i opened the pod to retrieve my belongings. i could have brought more of my belongings with me, if they had packed and wrapped correctly. i lost a lot of my things by leaving them,close to 10,000 dollars worth, because the guy said there was no more room! the wrapping blankets were in plastic wrap, and were on top of all my stuff. Arrived at 1030, and was told vehicle would not be ready until 11am when it was returned. Shortly after 11am I made several inquiries as to if the truck would be available, and each time they asked for my name, but never confirmed the status as they would help other walkins. After seeing 2 trucks returned I asked the 3rd time if my vehicle was ready,I was told they have a truck for me. Surprised at the lack of follow thru with a customer who was waiting in the lobby, but Was impressed with how they handled others during my hour wait in the lobby/ showroom. Other than this location, my experience with my reservation was HORRIBLE. My guaranteed reservation had been at a location in Indio for the prior day. After confirming reservation, I arrived at this site to find no trucks available. Transferred to another site at 7pm that evening where I sat until closing waiting for truck that never arrived. MY movers had to be paid for lost time. I will NEVER use Uhaul again despite good service at Cathedral City. You guys treat a reservation as a joke, which caused me to incur $500 in costs resulting from your failure to fulfill the reservation as guaranteed.brian B.

We rented 43 of your plastic bins. About 10 were of them were not clean -- there was bird poop in several of the ten and dirt and lots of grit in others. We had to hose them out before we could put anything in them. The personnel at this location were very accommodating and helpful.Ardinea T.

Your trucks really need to be inspected more closely or better maintained. The truck was not sanitized, luckily I brought my own sanitizing supplies and the wipe was black from dirt after cleaning the steering wheel. But the worst of it was the air-conditioning did not work!Alfred D.

ThÃ© Denver Uhaul location that took pod reservation and delivered was excellent. Once it arrived at Cathedral City, CA location it was poor service clear up to when they picked up the empty pod. I always had to drive to Ramon Rd location because nobody ever answered their phones. I had 2 pods. One was suppose to go to storage and the other delivered upon CA arrival. Both went into storage even after I drove out and told manager that I didn't want that. I changed credit card that I had in file for monthly auto payment. I had to drive out to their location to give them this info. Even after doing this, the following month I got notification that my card wouldn't process payment. When I was ready for 2nd pod to be delivered I again drove out to make arrangements. Based on the window of delivery I made arrangements to have help to unload the pod. The delivery time frame expired and no pod and no notification as to when I would receive it. After no answer, as usual at local location I called a nation wide uhaul number and was told there was confusion and that they didn't get pod pulled for delivery that day. I demanded that it be delivered. Finally 3 1/2 hours later snd my help is gone I got the pod. I told them I would somehow get it unloaded and wanted it picked up 2days later. I was having another truck bringing things and I needed my driveway free of the pod. I made arrangements for this pick up. The window of pick up expired and no pod pick up. I once again called the nation wide dispatch and was told they weren't going to be able to get it that day, but would get it Monday morning ( which was 3 days later) I got so mad that they made arrangements fir some gal to pick it up. She had her own private truck and said she hadn't ever done this before. She was asking me questions about the pod hitch. I could go on and on, but I think you get the message if why I WOULD NOT recommend using the Uhaul location on Ramon Rd in Cathedral City, CA. It is very poorly managed and they don't seem to care.Pamela S.

Stop,! The problem was not with the the Cathedral City location but with the national call center. They would not guarantee a one-way truck would be available. Because of this we had to drive from Paso Robles to Palm Springs which is over 300 miles and rent a local truck at the Cathedral City location and drive it back to pickup and return to Catedral City. It wasted hundreds of dollars in gas. U-Haul has gotten much worse in recent years. The truck in Cat City was great however but your policies should be addressed. I rent at least 10 trucks a year. This service and truck was the poorest that I have experienced in years. The counter people were abrupt. Unfriendly. The gas tank gage was incorrect. The contract read 1/4 of a no tank. The gas gage was 1/8 of a tank. The windshield was filthy of I asked an attendant to clean it. The knob on the A/C was missing or broken. You need to pave all the areas as if moving carts are being used and not having ramps at the entrance to the indoor storage is just dumb. Don't put up signs bragging about the indoor temperate being controlled when on the few occasions I actually showed up it wasn't even close. There is a real issue with telephone communication at this location. I'm guessing management is either overextended or just doesn't care but many simple issues that could be solved were kicked down the line adding to really everyone's additional time wasted. Have someone that can take care of the phones and I'll bet you won't have any bad reviews or irritated customers as I've noticed on most visits there's always one or two upset folks: There's got to be someone at home that could go on payroll and quickly resolve most problems . You have sone really great workers there and you've got some lousy ones but honestly neither seen to stay. U-Haul is a smart company and kinda quietly crept up and made itself the only affordable ish option for moving and storage but I can't say I really love it like everything about it . This location is ok but it's just because it's really the only game in town. I've found better prices and better service within a half mile but I did have to wait for a space and of course they don't rent trucks , so thank you for the space it was clean and available.. I don't mean to be a jerk I'm just being blunt. You obviously have a good business, I think it could be a great one with a few improvements. It's interesting that not getting good service lingers and kinda leads a good customer away when the cost to actually take care of it was so little. We were so relieved to discover we got a month of free storage with our one way rental. Our home buying experience did not allow us to move directly in..in fact it took 4 additional months!! We had to pay for 3 months and were so glad our unit was air conditioned. A staff member verified all the units were secured twice daily by physical inspection. And for secure?...you had to use your gate pass to also exit every time you came. Video surveillance was also used. If we ever move again...U-Haul is our choice.Michael F. | Overall Experience

The entire time I was moved in, the staff could not provide me with an access code or card. They repeatedly told me the gate controls were broken and being fixed. They never were. I had to call over the intercom to be let in. One evening they left for the day with me and my vehicle in there and I had to hop the fence, leave my car, and have my wife pick me up. I rented a 20 ft truck to go 1 way to cat city & was told I got a few storage for a month. I was told it wAs 10x8x5. (It’s your business & you should know that a 20 ft truck worth of stuff won’t fit 1/4 of my belongings in, so what should have taken 4-5 hrs took all day (I’m disabled w a broken neck). I had to move my stuff to a different storage then bring the truck back. I would expect some kind of refund or a free truck for my reservation on the 8th as the 3 things & confirmation # were wrong.
