What made this visit extra unpleasant was that the company overcharged by a large amount because they did not accurately keep track of mileage or fuel, and did not do anything when this was brought to their attention online and verbally. Take a break or two. It was busy when I visited and the team did an excellent job of flowing from one customer to the next. I even witnessed someone checking in multiple vehicles in the speed it took me to check in my one vehicle with no extra equipment via my phone app. Very impressive teamwork I felt they made an effort to meet all of the customers' needs. This is definitely the place to use in Tuscaloosa. The alternative independent that claims to be â€œAwesomeâ€ was closed in the Middle of the business day. The skyland location seems to be the spot to serve uhaul needs.chase C.
I couldn't have had a worse experience with Uhaul if you all tried--and it sure felt like you did. I initially came to this location to rent a truck and was met by one of the most rude people I've ever encountered. She told me the only truck available when I needed was a 26' and kept telling me to just take it up with customer service if I didn't like it. In fact, trucks of all sizes were available when I checked online, so this was a flat lie. Additionally, when I reserved a 15' truck online, my pickup location was moved from within 10 miles of me to nearly 70 miles from me the night before. I was on the phone with customer service for over an hour trying to get the truck closer to me, to no avail. I had already paid for it and was furious, but the customer support agent was not in the least sympathetic, apologetic, or helpful (in fact, her only solution was moving the pickup location even FURTHER away!). When she "reconnected" me to talk to someone about cancelling my truck, she in fact hung up, causing me to sit and wait another hour for someone else from customer service to contact me. When this new person called, he was rude, obnoxious, not helpful, and immediately hung up once my truck was cancelled. He talked down to me and it was infuriating. Then I finally get a 10' truck reserved in my town as a round-trip instead of a one-way. Fine. I go to pick it up, and it isn't available. The two representatives in the store called other people who hadn't returned the truck and then finally figured out they did have one available for me. Had things gone according to my original reservation, I would've picked up a 15' truck at 9 am and had it for the day. Instead, due to all the changes, delays, and lack of apologies, I ended up with a 10' truck at 6 pm, causing me to move solely at nighttime, which was an incredible hassle. One, in fact, that I planned on NOT having by getting a bigger truck for the morning, but of course, that did not shake out. Then when I go to return the truck, I dropped the key in the box as the representatives told me, only to find out there was a whole online process I had to complete, which I could not complete accurately since I had already locked the truck and put away the key. All in all, this was by far the most infuriating transaction of my life, and nobody along the way seemed to give a single damn or try to help at all. I have never felt so horribly about a customer service experience as I have with this whole charade. I will never, under any circumstances, use Uhaul again, and I have successfully convinced many of my other friends who are moving (we all graduated at the same time) to use ANYTHING else. This was a piss poor experience and I am shocked this company is apparently run this incompetently. Absolutely pathetic.Tucker C.

The employee at the desk was terrible. I had to wait for him to finish his conversation (about sports) with his colleague before he even said a word. After that he acted like he could not care less and that I was bothering him. When I got my receipt, there was a mistake charge on the fuel. When I asked him to reverse the charge since the mistake was easy to prove, he said: " we don't do no refund" and walked out. I had to wait for another worker to come in and fix it. Rude staff. No one looked up to help us when we walked in. The lady who finally did help didnt show me which rental was mine just handed me the keys. After arriving at my house with the rental, I realize a lock was on it. When I called Uhaul about it, they refused to send someone to remove it; they made me return to have it cut off with a bolt cutter. Clearly no one checked in the rental truck! My hired movers had to wait on me to return and consequently delayed the move by 45 minutes as well as added gas cost.Danielle T.

I booked a cargo van on the uhaul website and was provided with the location with which to pick up my reservation. I arrived 5 minutes early and waited in line (at a gas station location) for 20 minutes only to be told that cargo vans are never rented from that location and I would need to drive 10 minutes to an additional location. I did. I arrived at the additional location an hour after my scheduled reservation, only to be told that the customer before me didn't return the cargo van and they were going to call him/her. The phone call, which was made in front of me, resulted in the customer saying they needed to keep the cargo van for an additional 4 hours and wouldn't be returning it until we'll after my reservation. The gentleman at the uhaul counter was very sweet and made phone call after his hone call trying to secure me a vehicle to rent. Finally, we it was apparent that a cargo van was not in the cards, the gentleman did offer me a 15 foot truck for the same price as the cargo van but they could only rent it to me for 3 hours, not the 5 I had reserved the cargo van for, because another customer was set to rent this particular truck 3 hours later. I assured the uhaul representative that it would be back in time and accepted the larger vehicle. Thankfully, I was not traveling far, because I was very unsure of driving this larger vehicle. All worked well, I mastered the truck driving and was able to return the truck with 2 minutes to spare. While the uhaul representative was super sweet and did a lot of foot work to make things right, I have to say, uhaul needs to update fleet inventory availability and stay on top of tardy customers. I didn't have it nearly as bad as the poor folks who were also picking up a cargo van to move themselves 2 states away only to be told that they not only didn't have a cargo van but they had nothing that wasn't local. I felt awful for this couple. Get it together uhaul, this treatment is abhorrent.Judy C.

I could only reach a call center was never able to get the actual location on the phone. I was supposed to receive a call to schedule drop off and never did. Had to drive to actual location and when I arrived they said they had no boxes available. The lady there resolves the issue for me. We had left a personal item in the cab of the truck. Owner of whosoever storage & moving stated he found the item while cleaning the cab after we turned it in. Not only did he take the time to contact us in ref to the item he also dropped it off at a relative's home after he closed up shop for the day. I really feel like whosoever storage and moving went out of their way to return the item to us and to make that situation very convenient for us. It is very much appreciated.Forrest H.

The first trailer lights did not work but the customer service agent was great to get a new trailer...unfortunately that one had a horrible gas fume odor when opened. It did dissipate after some time with doors open to air out but slowed our loading as we had to wait until the fumes cleared. But the trailer worked great and carried all our items well. I would say the 5 x 8 trailer would have trouble fitting a Queen bed as our full just fit in the trailer.Matt E.

I would recommend based on convenience with caveats. The storage hours are until 10pm but you can never get in through the front gate until 10pm which is exactly where our unit was. Incredibly inconvenient to have to go and use the side door opposite end of the facility for anything after 7pm. We asked if there was a pest problem when we moved in and told no, but the dead belly up cockroaches everywhere was a little concerning. If I had any other choice for storage I would not have been there. I appreciate that they were dead, but for the number of people there, one should be able to find the time to sweep or vacuum them daily. From beginning to end worst experience I have ever had. If the first month had not been free and I had been able to find something elsewhere I would have been done!! Rented a truck online with mobile check in that did not work. A representative who lied about procedures, costing me valuable time, so much so that I almost had to extend my truck rental, wrong size unit reserved, then unavailable unit reserved, then wrong size unit reserved again and then finally the found a unit that I had to make work. Rushed to throw everything in the unit, so I did not have time to replace the 4 gallons of gas used to then be charged $5/per gallon. When the current price is $2.88/per gallon. On and then my reserved unit went from $89.99 climate controlled to $109.00 not climate controlled. I'm done. Hello, We have used your facility for the past three years and have been happy up until this year. My son moved in after office hours and found a full bedroom set in his storage unit. The bedroom set is still in the unit and hopefully it will be inspected prior to someone else moving in, as it took away much of the storage space available to my son. He was leaving to return home early the next day, so he wasn't able to contact anyone prior to moving his things in to have the situation remedied. He also discovered a very large dead rodent dangling from the wire mesh on top of his unit. We have also always been given the first month (May) of storage rental for free, as my son is a college student. I contacted your establishment several times requesting reimbursement for the first month and was denied. What's not to like? As Yogi Berra once said, "nobody goes there any more; it's too crowded." Seriously, the only problem with this place is its popularity. The staff are helpful and friendly. It's clean. Easily accessible. The automatic lighting always works. I set up the storage space rental on line in just a fee minutes at the end of my daughter's freshman year at Bama. She moved her stuff in. The 24-hour access always worked. When it came time to move her stuff out, there were adequate carts and access. All her belongings were clean and intact. This storage unit was supposed to be climate controlled but this was not the case as there was obviously some kind of leak (because there wasn't a proper ceiling above the unit) causing water damage and mold to form on all of my furniture within the short time I had it stored here. The storage facility had to know about this because all the wood around my unit was also ruined, but they never notified me of such and I only found out as I was moving out. There was also a rat problem in the facility and I was again not informed of this; the staff's response was to drop a rat trap into the unit from above (since there's not a ceiling) which cracked a piece of my furniture. There were rat droppings throughout the unit. Because of the poor conditions of the unit/facility, I had to throw out everything since it was ruined- such a waste of money. Moreover, I could never reach the facility on the phone. Lastly, the majority of the storage units are off the ground level and can only be accessed by a set of wheeling stairs- such a hassle to move stuff in/out of. Customer service was terrible. An employee literally looked at me and said "what do you want" while waiting in line. The lack of professionalism was laughable. The facility and units are the perfect example of false advertising. The location itself was disgusting. No lock was included in my unit as it should have been. A two story storage facility, more like bunk bed storage units. I was also told mine would be ground level, it's in the air. My only complaint is that we were charged when it was supposed to be free for a month. After I brought this to the staffs attention it was reimbursed. However, we were locked out of our unit for nonpayment. The problem was corrected by the manager. This complaint is being posted so you know if you have a problem just talk to the staff. I am deeply disappointed and appalled by the treatment and lack of customer service by your staff at the Skyland location. The employee was snippy and very short with me throughout my checkin process and was extremely bothered that she had to show me and my son how to get to the available units so we could see which unit to rent. We had to trample through a repair garage with tools, boxes, fans and crap all over as well as a car the repair guy was working on. It wasn't until the very end of the process, when I was paying for the unit, I had asked for her name, which she hesitated in answering that she decided to be nice. I am in the customer service business and I would never treat a customer the way she treated me and this transaction. She does not represent UHAUL company well and in my opinion she shouldn't be working in customer service.Kristy M. | First Impressions

Cashiers were always kind of rude. The assistant manager has no empathy and understanding to help people or to correct his mistakes.
