Mandate brand signage and require staff performance improvement at the Greensboro Ave. (Tuscaloosa) site. I rented a 10-ft truck and selected the Skyland location (Tuscaloosa, AL), pick up in person at 8:30 AM. My confirmation was for that location and time. When I arrived I was told my truck would be at another location (Greensboro Ave.). There was no U-Haul signage at this site = very hard to find. The physical door had a handwritten sign (sharpie on white paper taped to door), letters 4 inches high "UHaul". The door said they open at 9AM, on the web/text all say 8:30AM, the worker arrived at 9:20AM. The worker took 45 min to determine that my truck was not at the site. They sent me back to Skyland location where UHaul eventually provided a 15ft truck - so my rental set for 8:30 AM became a drive away at 10:30 AM. And, Skyland did not have an appliance dolly (which I ordered). If rating for Greensboro location alone the rating would be 1/2 star.

I was surprised when he informed me he was already finished checking the equipment in and said I was ready to go. Very easy transaction. It took less than 5 mins from the time I arrived until I left.

anthony wAll staff was courteous and very professional. The General manager opened his store promptly at 7:00 am and was ready to transact business. The young lady who took care of me on my initial visit was super. She took my reservation and told me to have a great weekend. She was very efficient and courteous. Upon returning the unit the General manager greeted me at the door and directed a young man to help me with my return. He was very professional and knowledgeable on how to safely disconnect the unit. I was very pleased to hear the young man saying yes sir and no sir. He wished me a great weekend and offered their services in the future, if needed. They provided top notch services from the beginning to the end. I will definitely use this location again.
DeAnthony WHad an appointment for 9:00 am when I arrived I was told that there was only one person working and to come back at 11:30! Arrived back and the man started working on installing wiring for my hitch. In a video it showed a bracket to hold the 4 pin plug! I asked if they had one would he put it on and he said yes and he did. Two screws and was charged an extra $20 plus the $6,95 got the part! This was on top of $50. To install wiring harness! Again I arrived at about 11ish and didn’t leave till after 1:40 due to man not staying in my car!
Raymond DThe pick-up location was reassigned without informing me, so I went to the wrong location for pickup. How is this possible? I asked the staff to add 50 miles to my allowed usage (increase from 300 miles to 350 miles) which they said they did, but when I checked the next day there were no changes to my account. It rained heavily the night of our pickup, and our items got wet inside the sealed truck. Disappointing all around.
Ira JInstead of highlighting/ reviewing only certain parts of the contract with customers, highlight/ review them all! I was charged $20 because I didn’t know there was a fee for not checking the truck back in online. Previously, there has been a worker outside and I didn’t have to check it in, so I wasn’t clear about whether I had to check it in or not. Seems deceitful to highlight certain parts of the contract at checkout but not others then to charge the customer if they didn’t read the parts you actually highlighted as important (I’m aware that I should also read the contract). Plus, I had the can back early, which helps your business. I am a regular customer and always follow your rules. Super disappointed!

Tonya SThe store was very busy when we got there. First there was one employee behind the counter, and then another came in. The one that had been solo for a few minutes handled business, but she seemed pretty stressed. The gentlemen that came in helped us, and he was really awesome. There wasn't a moving van available, so he asked a few questions about what we were planning so that he could try to find something that would work. He walked me out to the pull behind trailers and found the last 6x12 trailer they had on the lot. He was able to get us set up with the rental, and he hooked it up for us. The employee handling returns was fantastic as well, and helped to get the trailer in the right spot and unhooked from the vehicle quickly. Overall, we had a great experience, and would recommend this location to anyone.

I made a point to meet my appointment time and I wish UHaul had done the same. Otherwise everything was fine and the bathroom was very nice and well maintained (not often the case!).

Phillip HI was originally supposed to pickup a 20 ft at a different location in Tuscaloosa. They no showed, but the online rep got it solved within. 20 min and moved my reservation over quickly. Sadly, I had to get a 24ft but the online rep was very helpful.

Jon MFirst off I scheduled an appointment my wife took off work and took her vehicle to U-Haul location in Tuscaloosa. Upon arrival they asked her if she had appointment and she said yes I’m here for an installation. The lady looked at her like she was crazy and said I’m sorry do what and my wife says yes we have an appointment, the lady told her that she was sorry that she sees our appointment in the computer but there were no installation supposed to be scheduled on a Thursday and if there was no one there whatsoever, they could do the installation so we had to take it back up there Saturday morning after picking up my vehicle and driving it home. All of the lights on my dash came on I have a 2022 Honda pilot the back up sensors Lights on the dash are saying malfunction and the lane departure is saying malfunction overall turbo experience still trying to get U-Haul to look at it and make sure that nothing is messed up on the wiring

Although we had a reservation, the gentlemen told us he didn’t have a truck or a storage unit. He didn’t even look for it. He sent us away. Robin found it and got us squared away with a smile. Every time I needed an employee for assistance, I had to wait 10+ minutes. The parking lot is terrible and inaccessible. The manager was incredibly rude the two times I interacted with him, including one time where I was trying to solve an ADA issue. The only reason this gets two stars is because the non-manager employee were kind and generally helpful.

Arrived that next morning early at the facility, I was also renting a 16’ truck and needed a unit to store items and I only had one day to do it in. The facility representative told me that I could not get or be assigned a unit until I had items ready to put in the unit. This didn’t make any sense to me but I just let it go and completed the rental got the keys and went outside. She had given me the wrong size truck keys were to the largest truck on the lot instead of a 12’. Went back in to argue that, which was another waste of time and a big deal getting her to understand that. Finally left the building over an hour behind schedule. Went back to the store with the first load and was given a unit with a lock already on it. Went back to desk and was given another unit with a lock on it. Went back and was given a unit outside that was 1/2 the size I reserved. Went back and they told me that all other units were already rented and that I should have reserved it that morning because they had just rented the last 2 they had available. After searching and searching they gave me a unit outside that was much smaller than I reserved and not climate controlled and not in the promotion and rent was much higher than I had reserved. Was supposed to also get a free lock which they would not honor because it was no longer a online Reservation. Barely got her things out on time and then had to unload in the dark trying to fit her things into the much smaller space. Rude employees and management. Never again! Now they are not refunding my rental fees after closing out and emptying the unit. Absolutely the worst and I have used many storage facilities-NEVER AGAIN!!!!

The mgr overheard the interaction with me and the customer service team member and stopped what he was doing to assist me. He was very helpful At this point, I was so upset that I decided to move out sooner. Jonathan H | Overall ExperienceThe main problem with this facility is that inside storage units are too small and access is very inconvenient. My email gave me a price of $74 and the receipt I was given said $119. The renewal notice also said $119. I did add insurance, but it was certainly not $43 per month. The size of these units is barely worth $74. They are certainly not worth $119. The halls are too narrow, so you can't get some furniture into the unit. Access to the unit in one way in/one way out. If someone else is loading/unloading, you can't get anything in/out except a few boxes and small items while front door is blocked. To make that more inconvenient, if you are parked at the front door with a trailer or U-haul, you are blocking or being blocked by the U-haul drop off area. Perhaps the purpose of these inside units is boxes and small items only, but that should have been made clear on the website when the unit was offered. Thankfully this unit was free with the rental of a truck. I would not have paid for this unit, which is why I moved out before the next months fee was due.

The storage hours are until 10pm but you can never get in through the front gate until 10pm which is exactly where our unit was. Incredibly inconvenient to have to go and use the side door opposite end of the facility for anything after 7pm. We asked if there was a pest problem when we moved in and told no, but the dead belly up cockroaches everywhere was a little concerning. If I had any other choice for storage I would not have been there. I appreciate that they were dead, but for the number of people there, one should be able to find the time to sweep or vacuum them daily. People are nice and helpful but the overall facility is in desperate need of a good cleaning and overhaul

Rented a truck online with mobile check in that did not work. A representative who lied about procedures, costing me valuable time, so much so that I almost had to extend my truck rental, wrong size unit reserved, then unavailable unit reserved, then wrong size unit reserved again and then finally the found a unit that I had to make work. Rushed to throw everything in the unit, so I did not have time to replace the 4 gallons of gas used to then be charged $5/per gallon. When the current price is $2.88/per gallon. On and then my reserved unit went from $89.99 climate controlled to $109.00 not climate controlled. I’m done. Enjoy the money you have already received because there will not be any more coming from me.

My son moved in after office hours and found a full bedroom set in his storage unit. The bedroom set is still in the unit and hopefully it will be inspected prior to someone else moving in, as it took away much of the storage space available to my son. He was leaving to return home early the next day, so he wasn't able to contact anyone prior to moving his things in to have the situation remedied. He also discovered a very large dead rodent dangling from the wire mesh on top of his unit. We have also always been given the first month (May) of storage rental for free, as my son is a college student. I contacted your establishment several times requesting reimbursement for the first month and was denied. I'm not sure why so much has changed over the past couple of years, but we certainly were not happy with our most recent experience.
tracy W | Overall ExperienceWhat’s not to like? As Yogi Berra once said, “nobody goes there any more; it’s too crowded.” Seriously, the only problem with this place is its popularity. The staff are helpful and friendly. It’s clean. Easily accessible. The automatic lighting always works. I set up the storage space rental on line in just a fee minutes at the end of my daughter’s freshman year at Bama. She moved her stuff in. The 24-hour access always worked. When it came time to move her stuff out, there were adequate carts and access. All her belongings were clean and intact. No signs of insect or rodent activity. All good. We’ll be back!

Ronald M | First ImpressionsThis storage unit was supposed to be climate controlled but this was not the case as there was obviously some kind of leak (because there wasn’t a proper ceiling above the unit) causing water damage and mold to form on all of my furniture within the short time I had it stored here. The storage facility had to know about this because all the wood around my unit was also ruined, but they never notified me of such and I only found out as I was moving out. There was also a rat problem in the facility and I was again not informed of this; the staff’s response was to drop a rat trap into the unit from above (since there’s not a ceiling) which cracked a piece of my furniture. There were rat droppings throughout the unit. Because of the poor conditions of the unit/facility, I had to throw out everything since it was ruined- such a waste of money. Moreover, I could never reach the facility on the phone. Lastly, the majority of the storage units are off the ground level and can only be accessed by a set of wheeling stairs- such a hassle to move stuff in/out of. I can not stress enough not to get a storage unit here- horrible experience

The facility and units are the perfect example of false advertising. The location itself was disgusting. No lock was included in my unit as it should have been. A two story storage facility, more like bunk bed storage units. I was also told mine would be ground level, it’s in the air. I will never do business with uhaul again after my belongings temporary stay here.

The employee was snippy and very short with me throughout my checkin process and was extremely bothered that she had to show me and my son how to get to the available units so we could see which unit to rent. We had to trample through a repair garage with tools, boxes, fans and crap all over as well as a car the repair guy was working on. It wasn’t until the very end of the process, when I was paying for the unit, I had asked for her name, which she hesitated in answering that she decided to be nice. I am in the customer service business and I would never treat a customer the way she treated me and this transaction.
