My original reservation for Arlington pickup was not honored, reservation moved to Somerville (with a smaller truck) at the last minute. Somerville location did not have truck ready for early morning (pre-opening) self-service pickup as scheduled. The truck had serious mechanical trouble - engine light came on, incessant loud squealing and grinding from drivetrain / front end / brakes, transmission trouble - wouldn't shift into high gear on highway. Felt unsafe to drive. Had to lose several hours to return truck and get a replacement. Replacement truck was fine. Staff at the location did their best to help me out. Morning staff helped me pick up the first truck even a little before opening (since it was supposed to have been ready the previous night), and gave me a different truck without complaint when the first one had mechanical trouble. Clear that the site staff are doing their best with limited resources (esp on a Sunday) and I have no complaint with them. This is a corporate problem, maintenance and coordination on honoring reservations are lacking.

Have more than one guy to serve you. I waited from getting there at 10:21 to being served 10:35 AM for a 10:30 appointment. Wasnâ€™t much of a problem as I was stoned and I was reading an interesting article, but 14 minutes to confirm the price, sign something, grab the keys to a truck and go? God damn! The staff was not friendly, would even consider rude, especially Mr. Tom (the name on his badge). The truck was dirty, smelled of cigarette, the side mirror on driver side could not be adjusted at all. When asked questions the staff was not able to answer questions and repeated same answer. Very disappointed.

I was charged twice with two different fees. I only used the truck for one day so not sure what the additional charge is all about.

When I walked in the door, I was the only customer there. However it took the 2 employees at the desk almost 5 minutes to acknowledge me. After being given my keys, I had no idea where or how to find my truck and there were no employees in the parking lot to help until I flagged someone down from inside. I drove less than 10 miles in the truck, so the gas tank did not show any movement from the time I picked it up to the time I returned it. However I was charged for a full tank of gas anyway, and without being told I was going to be charged extra. When I returned the truck, I parked behind another truck that had just been returned. An employee from the desk then told me that I needed to park next to the truck even though there was very little space. I had to fold in the side mirrors to do so, and it took almost 10 minutes for the friend I was with to assist me in parking in the tiny space. I don't know how an employee would have been able to get the truck out of there, and no doubt if I had hit anything while trying to park where I was told, you would have added another charge to my bill. The customer service at this location is abysmal. The service at the counter is extremely slow, there is always a long line and no one is in a rush to help out. At least the lady checking me out was moderately friendly once I finally did get up to the counter. I can not say the same for the person receiving the truck. They were very rude and made us wait in the cold with no explanation of what we were supposed to do or when they would come check in our van. When I recieved the final recipt, after having left the facility, I saw that the technician charged me for an extra day and doubled the coverage charge. Truely a terrible place to rent a vehicle, I will not be returning.

Tom was amazing. I've been utilizing this location for 2 years - various needs, supplies, rentals, etc. It's well run, well equipped and just excellent service by Vanti and Tom....great team. Both times I visited this site, the staff person told me her computer and register were "down" so I had to wait for processing. In addition, I asked if I could pay in cash and was told her register was broken and that I could only use a credit card. This was frustrating both when I went to reserve the equipment and when I went to pick it up a few weeks later.

In cold weather, make sure the back door is not iced and that it can be opened. I rent once a month for a trip to the food bank. Usually, the van is ready near the door. The new policy has me going to the parking area and folding the cardboard advertisment in the wind screen. Small change in the level of service. Unfortunately, when I got to my pickup spot, we had to work hard to release the iced latch. Two strong men could not get the door open because of ice across the length of the door. On the call to U-Haul, I was told to just kick the door (which we had already done). Returning to U-Haul, the staff needed to hammer a crow bar to break the ice! I was told that this was my responsibility. After all I left the lot with the vehicle. But I think since they work with all these vehicles, they should be more aware. I think it is a reasonable service for a customer to expect.

Using the U-Haul app takes a lot of extra time. The truck was not filled with fuel. The mileage was not correct. The truck had snow and ice on top of it which is a hazard and ended up leading to a delay in the start of my move time along with the app malfunctioning and not excepting a photograph of the original gas level and mileage odometer. Catch up I also think it is unnecessary that the return time be 10:30 PM in light of the fact that I rented my truck at 5 PM. I should At least have until 5 PM the next day if I am paying for a full day. I ended Up being double charged for the rental and the insurance because I returned the truck 45 minutes after 10:30 PM. Overall I feel that the customer service element of U-Haul is now lacking in light of its automation and lacks personal touch And a feeling of true Customer Service.

Truck was great but it was only 2wd I needed a 4wd also the agreed price was 130 and I was charged 170
