At the counter on the morning of my rental to move, I was told by the front desk that I had a lien on my account and that I could not rent my truck until that is resolved by calling customer service. No upfront warning on the day I booked my vehicle, no email, no text, no phone calls about this until I arrive to pick up my truck! On top of that, I find out that the lien is from someone I'm “associated with” from March 2020. I don't even know the person, I've also been home since the pandemic started so no way this was me. Last time I used a U-Haul was over 2 years ago in 2018. I felt I was held hostage with no choices but to pay the extortion fee so I could get on with my day. By the time all was said and done, I had wasted an hour into the morning of my move... As if all this wasn't enough I had a rude and unwelcoming front desk person giving me attitude as he was pulling up my information that morning. He was unprofessional and rude to his customers as if he didn't want to be there or care about keeping his job. I now have to also call the law enforcement myself to clear up a potential case of fraud on my name. This whole experience was a mess. I never want to use U-Haul again and will be an advocate against using U-Haul for my network of friends and colleagues at work. I paid for my own misery this time.

When I reserved the truck online, I followed the instructions to be able to avoid waiting. I thought I would just be able to walk up and the vehicle would be ready as I submitted front and back of license etc. The check in was quick, I just thought it would less contact. Thank you though, I would use your agency again.

More pleasant and friendly customer service. Explain thoroughly what needs to be done prior to using vehicle. Explain that you actually have to review contract/text prior to using vehicle. Information may not correlate. Also, don't give the clients what you think they may need. If they are requesting a larger vehicle, please allow that to happen. Because I went with the vehicle that was charged to me and not the actual one that I wanted to use, had to make two trips when one would have worked better. thanks

We were suppose to pick up the trailer in Oakland, but at the last minute it was changed to Hayward. I picked the trailer up around 11AM and returned it 3 days later at 12:30 and was charged for 4 days usage. If the trailer was in Oakland I would have been able to pickup and return with the 72 hours and only be charged for 3 days rather than 4.


I rented uhaul right before closing time. In fact, Iwas happily surprised I was able to get one with 15 minutes left until closing and no prior reservation made. When outside going to truck I asked uhaul employee who had helped me what the price of gas per mile was and was told $1.19 per mile . I was charged $1.29 per mile. 214 × $.10 = 21.40 over charged for gas . . . Especially since I overfilled the tank when returned. However, I cannot find my original written quote. So have no basis to ask for refund. Other than that, service was good, professional, friendly and fast. Although my most expensive rental with uhaul, it was also the easiest.

Store was crowded and social distancing was not enforced. Took forever for the line to move, even though I'd checked in online. And this specific store is not responsible, but the fact that Uhaul changed my reservation from Hayward to freaking Concord without notifying me was beyond frustrating.

The first guy that we dealt with that we checked the truck out to was amazing and professional. We we returned the truck one employee was sitting in one of the trucks on the phone, the other guy seemed lost left me in the building for a while so I walked out to the truck where he was to fond him leaning over the seat on His phone on Facebook. Totally unprofessional. Get these kids out of there, they seem more into their phones than the customer service they are putting out.

The check in process after hours is a problem if you used a computer to setup the account and reservation. You get to the site and then click on the link from the text and you need to log in. Think about that for a minute, maybe an hour... Got it. Luckily I had hot spot, laptop and where with all to figure out how to retrieve the password. After that the process was below average. Please identify the user will need to login when returning the trailer and save the user and password to the phone because you have to take pictures. You also need to account for the 10s of people milling around the location that do not speak English. Not the facilities fault the people were there milling around after hours.

When I went to fill the gas the gas line was not connected to the actual tank. When I brought it up to one of the employees he did not seem too concerned and asked, even before I showed him a picture, if the gas line was cut as if he knew about it already.

We had to wait in line for a long time. Then, when we were being seen by someone, they stopped half way through the transaction and then helped another customer a few customers behind us in line. We also were charged an additional $4.75 fuel fee but we had filled the tank up to 1/4, so we don't understand why we were charged this.

I would rate higher, however, an employee showed poor character. I was walking to get my van rental, and he drove up along side me (from behind me) in his 10' Uhaul truck. He then turned the truck in my direction and swerved right in front of me (blocking my walking path). He and I made eye contact and it was obvious he saw me (but he did not make a motion to apologize, or stop the truck). He was LITERALLY right next to my body. He then backed the truck up into his parking stall. I proceeded to locate my van and a Manager came out to quickly apologize and inform me the young man did not see me (I understand the Manager was trying to make things right, but the young man and I both knew he saw me). I appreciate the Manager's attempt to smooth things over, but it didn't erase how baffled (and disappointed) I was by this young man's character and disrespect for safety.
