The customer service rep who handled my transaction wasn't very personable and didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge of the procedures to move the transaction forward. When the rep received the help required from another staff member, the transaction was completed fine. Also, the rep did not walk around the truck with me to detail any pre-existing issues with the truck. While we didn't have any incident, it would have been good to know any pre-existing damage on the truck. Further, while it likely was noted in the contract, I wasn't verbally informed of any additional mileage costs if I exceeded mileage allowed in the contract, nor was I told about incurring any additional misc. costs. In regards to the mileage, the allowed mileage may have allowed for the "overall shortest route from point A to point B" but it didn't take into account detours and unexpected added miles traveled. I think there needs to be more flexibility provided with the mileage to allow for unforeseen detours.

First of all we got stuck with a 26 ft. truck instead of a 20 ft. which we ordered. The truck had over 140,000 miles on it and was obviously damaged many times. It is not suitable to transport someone across the country. The front bumper partially came off and we had to use duck tape. Driver door window whistled badly. Rear view mirrors were not set right and could not be adjusted without an allen wrench. Brakes were weak and it was underpowered for the mountains. This truck needs to go out to pasture.

Tow dolly left tail light fell out between Schererville and Champaign. The wiring was old and frayed. It wasted an hour of our time to switch out equipment. Tow dolly was very old. It sounded as if we were dragging metal garbage cans.

The worse experience I have ever had at a U-HAUL. There was 3 employees on site while I was at the facility. The employee that help me was Josh and I am extremely sorry but he was on something words were a little Slurred and he acted very confused. He messed up on my reservation multiple times even though I did it on line with my account. Then once he got it together he gave me the wrong piece of equipment which caused me to have to go back in to redo my contract. The manager was rude told me to get over it and that shit happens. I am sorry but it took 45 mins to get a 6’x12’ trailer. I am usually in and out in 15 mins. The other employee was clueless if the operation. She may have been new. Also it’s not good customer service when the employees look like they hate their job.

Please explain the rates and charges prior to renting. Just because you book online doesn’t mean it’s the same thing you get in store. I was booking a rate of $19.95 for the rental and $0.59/mile. That was nothing close to the rate that I was charged with and found out upon returning the vehicle, of which I requested a call regarding this and never received one. Instead, I received an email stating to email them if I had any questions. Not very good service.

I had a 27 foot truck with no dolly. It would have made the move much easier by loading and unloading. I had to purchase 2 locks at Walmart because there were no more locks at the location near closing time. I had to leave my Family at the storage locker while I ran to the store. I wasn't told about the locks at 9 A.M. otherwise I would have purchased them in advance.

Update the online reservation system. I reserved one type of trailer, but then my reservation came up with something completely different. The guy who helped me at the location was great and fixed it. Everyone is always nice and quick, I just think the systems are a little outdated. I’ve had this issue in the past, it’s not a huge deal, but I’d like to see it fixed.

1. The ramp and edges of the cargo area had oil on them, not very safe on the ramp and had to arrange items out of the oil areas instead of maximizing cargo area space. The ramp seems to never get cleaned or inspected after returns, two weeks prior I rented a 15’er and the ramp was covered in grass clippings when i pulled it out, better than oil i suppose. The return online feature is a total fail, never did it say i would need pictures of the fuel gauge or odo so i locked it up and dropped the keys in the lock box only to find out I couldn’t check in the truck without odo and fuel pics. Either 1. Simplify the return check in steps or 2. Give a detailed guide of what to do instead of saying “return check in at uhaul.com anytime”

Online check-in was not a good experience. Took almost 30 minutes to check in. Had to wait for nearly 10 minutes for a live person to complete the check-in. Should have used the counter. Would have been much faster.

I called the Schererville store to make the reservation and was never told I needed to bring in the credit card nor that I needed to be there. I was renting the van through my company and an employee was picking it up. I was compensated by the customer service department for all of my issues however I will not be back.

They went above the call of duty to have the truck I rented there for me to pick and drive. I applaud them. Excellent job done. Can not say enough about them. It made it a lot easier for me to drive from there to where I needed to go, and get a feel of the truck.

One back-up light was out and the seat belt sensor was going off even though I had it buckled properly. My online reservation went through but they didn't have a 20 ft. truck waiting for me. They gave me someone else's reservation. It worked out for me.

Waited over 20 min to drop off trailer. Facility was busy however the man behind the counter was rude and needs traing on customer service!While waiting in line he asked what I was waiting for I told him I want to drop off my trailer. He pointed to a sign and download the app. I said I’ve been waiting for 20 minutesAnd didn’t want to download an app I was only going to use once. He just shrugged his shoulders and went about his business. Then he took another customer who just walked in to fill a propane and said that someone else will be right with me. The young lady That came and helped me was very friendly and apologetic about what happened. She was great and very helpful and had a great attitude. Definitely knows customer service. I’ve use this U-Haul before and would use it again however the gentleman that works there really needs to be trained on customer service

We rented a tow dolly at the schereville location, no receipt or contract available, we were told they would email it. The next day when we still hadn’t recieved anything, I called and was told the dolly was not available at the Schereville location, to pick it up at the Merrillville location. When we arrived at the Merrillville location, we were told they didn’t have one, We were then sent to another location where all that was available was a car trailer. How do you take payment from a customer for a tow dolly, forget to email the contact and receipt, and not provide what was purchased? Then tell the customer to drive to two separate locations with the promise that what was purchased is there only it isn’t. This was the most unorganized, shoddy business experience we have ever had.Also we were told we would be charged under $100.00 and were then charged $134.00 No doubt we were charged extra for the trailer which we did not contract to rent. We were lied to, given the run around, and over charged.. What you can improve for the next customer is everything about your business. I have not one good thing to say about our experience with haul.
