I haven't yet seen the exact storage unit E1181, however expect it to be like the rest of the facility. The woman that helped me was fantastic, very patient, I think her name was Katrina Very attentive even as It became very busy I did not feel rushed and the customers that were waiting to be help were fine because she continuously acknowledged them with updates of the process. Without getting into details, I did not have a good customer service experience. The two employees I interacted with seemed lethargic and distracted by their phones. One couldn't answer simple questions and the other's body language indicated annoyance when the trailer reserved was not what I had requested. I have used this location several times over the past 20+ years and always had positive experiences. This time I was disappointed with the service, but the equipment and contract terms were totally satisfactory. Also, the individual who handled my equipment return was personable, friendly, and willingly backed the trailer into its space when I could not.WALTER S.

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any business. I was told that the reason for poor service was due to being short staffed. Meanwhile the employees were arguing because one took an hour and a half lunch. When he returned another woman came out and started drawing on his hand making a "pen tattoo." Another was sleeping on the furniture pads. After explaining that I need enough room to get 3 couches in, I was given a space that was in a small corridor where I could not fit my furniture. I went back to the front desk where I was given another space in the same area. If you have half decent furniture that you do not want gnawed by rats, find another place. Not only are there rat traps everywhere but there are transients hanging around inside the building. They couldn't figure out how to key the access card so they gave me the entry code. I would guarantee that code works today and 6 months from today so not only is it filthy but not secure. Finally, some guy came back from lunch to "help" and gave me a space that was half the size of the other ones. I thought I was being punked. I was at UHaul for over two hours and while still waiting, finally called Extra Space Storage on the other side of Medford. I called them at 4:45PM and was finished moving in by 5:30. Go to Extra Space Storage or put your stuff in your Mom's basement but just do not use UHaul. I had to put extra miles on the UHaul truck and extra gas after being toyed with all afternoon. On top of all of this I still got charged!!! I called the customer service line and spoke with a very nice and capable woman named Katrina. I was on the phone for 45 minutes and was finally told that the money will be back in my account in 3-5 business days. Do not go to this business. Let me write this again. DO NOT GO TO THIS BUSINESS! I arrived to check in with a huge truck full of stuff on the way and was informed that UHaul doesn't honor storage reservations - it's first come first served. I showed them my confirmation email with the unit, price, size, and move in date. I was informed that uhaul does not give preference to customers with reservations and that they didn't have a storage unit big enough for my things. I had to store my things in a friends basement and I have not been able to get a refund from uhaul. We arrived it took them over 25 minutes to figure out they didn't have the pickup truck I had reserved. Meaning they needed to find me another vehicle. They ended up putting me in a 9 foot van which was fine however I lost 50 minutes of moving time because of their mistake. Then upon trying to return the van it wouldn't accept photos of the mileage kept giving error messages apparently making my drop off time late 15 minutes. Really shouldn't have been charged any additional fees as neither of these errors where on my end.KRISTEN C.

This was not the location I was supposed to drop off to In Cambridge mass. They were full and I had to drive more than 30 minutes to this location. Caused me to be late to an appointment and the location billed me for gas when I left the tank with more than it had when I picked up the truck. Overall, very disappointing experience. I had a confirmed reservation for a 5x8 trailer. I received a phone a day AFTER, I was supposed to hear from Uhaul to confirm equipment to tell me they no longer had the trailer. Ended up having to pay more than double for a cargo van. I am extremely dissatisfied with my overall drop off experience. While the Mystic Valley location is fine, I was only there because I was redirected there from my scheduled drop off location in Cambridge, where I was told by an unhelpful uHaul employee that they did not have the capacity to take possession of Uhaul property. I was therefore required to drive across town, through heavy traffic on unfamiliar streets. More importantly it was 30 minutes out of my way and I had timed things perfectly to make a flight that evening. The thing is, this is your property. I fulfilled my end of the contract as soon as I pulled into the Cambridge location. It was NOT my responsibility to get it to the other side of town. It was yours. And yet you made it my challenge to get it there safely with the all important full tank of gas when I should be on the way to the airport. uhaul's lack of space or planning is NOT my problem but you made it my problem which makes me very unhappy as a customer. It added stress to an already stressful day, increased the cost of my Uber ride to the airport by about $60, and nearly made me miss my flight. How was the location at 600 Mystic Hills? Fine. I went to U-Haul on July 30th to cancel a current truck reservation I had and see if a trailer would work instead. An employee said yes, my 2014 Toyota Corolla could handle a 5x8 trailer safely, cancelled the truck reservation, and scheduled a date to have a hitch installed on my car on August 10th. I then reserved the trailer for pickup August 29th. On August 20th, I dropped my car off at 7AM to get the hitch installed. I returned at 6PM to find that my car had not been touched. Said they didn't know if I was hitching a U-Haul trailer or another type of trailer to my car. So my car just sat there all day instead of them calling me to ask, or bothering to look in the system for the reservation under my name. So I had to wait for the hitch to be installed. On the big moving day--August 29--I arrived an hour early to pick up my trailer. The employee at the desk asked for my reservation and immediately looked to a fellow employee and said "oh shit i think we overbooked trailers today". I remained silent, kind of in shock since I'd booked this so far in advance and had to move out of my apartment that day. She then went on her walkie talkie and asked if the 5x8 trailer in the Q line was available. Someone responded back over the walkie talkie, "Did we replace that tire on that trailer?" To which I heard a "I think so" response. I asked for and received confirmation that they had but purchased the insurance anyway. Then drove the 6 hours from Somerville, MA, to Langhorne, PA. On August 31st, I dropped off the trailer. During inspection, the employee there took one look and said "DAMN, DID YOU KNOW THIS ONE TIRE IS COMPLETELY BALD? IT HAS CUTS ALL OVER IT." This was unprompted; I had not mentioned the conversation in Somerville. So I said, "funny you should mention that...". I find every action on the part of this facility to be insanely irresponsible. On so many levels. The hitch. The overbooking. The defective product (a bald tire). They put me in harm's way by delivering to me a faulty, dangerous product. I'd like to hear what u-Haul has to say for itself before I contact the Better Business Bureau.Carson S.
Was promised and guaranteed a rental from 9am on 8/31 and to be returned 5pm on 9/1. Happened to check my reservation a few days prior to 8/31 and noticed the return time was changed to 9am on 9/1 without any notice. I was very frustrated with this since I had to scramble to make other arrangements. Was hung up on twice by someone named Rhiannon I believe at the location I rented at. I had reserved dropoff with another location very close to my son's apartment. I was forced to go to this location. It's not far in terms of mileage but due to traffic, it took close to an hour to get there and we had to pay for a Lyft back into Boston. Also, the extra driving dropped the gas gauge Soni was charged for 3 gallons of gas. I paid over $1000 to rent the truck and do not think I should have been forced to pay extra charges at the end due to your change of venue, at the last minute. You should ensure there is room to drop the truck where I reserved a dropoff. I also had to go much farther than planned to pick up the truck. The person who checked us in was so rude. She was a few years younger than me, maybe early 20s? The entire time she was talking on the phone with her headphones to what sounded like her boyfriend and seemed incredibly annoyed by the existence of us and all the other customers. We kept having to repeat ourselves because she couldn't hear us over whatever conversation she was having on the phone, she was super rude and had an attitude, like us picking up the reserved van was a major inconvenience. The other woman (slightly older than her) offered to help us after the girl wandered off for awhile and was just starting to when the girl came back and snapped at the other employee. Moreover, I was not notified that an item was back-ordered after making a down payment, nor did I get notified when the item finally arrived after 2 months of waiting. We were initially scheduled to drop off at another location in Boston (Brighton). Upon arrival, they stated that we could not drop off the vehicle and would indeed need to drive to Somerville. This fact was compounded by them asking us to backup the 26 ft truck onto a busy two lane roadway, at our own liability and drive back across town. When asked if they could recommend a route that would be safe with the vehicle, the attendants merely recommended we use Google maps (which did not help). This detour took over 1 hr to go six miles, was very dangerous and left a very sour taste in our mouths after what had been a previously pleasant experience.Liam H.
Using my phone to check vehicle out and back in is a major pain in the ass. My current phone happens to be busted due to Apple replacing the battery with a new one that expanded and ruined the housing. Sometimes my phone isn't with me, or charged. Requiring customers to rely so heavily on their phones to complete transactions is basically requiring them to do provide services you used to perform FOR your customers. Asking customers to now do this work is neither easy nor convenient, and a major turn off for some of us.Lawrence R.

I was given two units in the basement that could only be accessed by a ladder/platform. It was really tough to fill and empty the storage units. No one mentioned this up front and if they had I would have asked for a unit on the floor. As there is an elevator it wouldn't matter which floor but just to have easy access and this definitely was not. FYI I booked the first storage unit online then the second in person but before I had seen the first unit. No body mentioned the problems with access and there were no other unit available. The woman who first helped me was amazing - warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to be helpful. The man who assisted me was rude, unhelpful, pessimistic, and suggested I try to find a storage unit at someplace "down the road." The storage unit I reserved a month ago was occupied by someone else upon my arrival. I had just driven a UHaul full of stuff from NY to MA, and needed to place my things in the storage unit I reserved. When I told the man who assisted me that the unit I was assigned was already in use, he seemed to think there were no other units available in the whole place, and that I should look elsewhere. The woman who originally assisted me went to look - and found 2 storage units available, from which I chose one and was able to move my things in. First my access card didn't work (the person helping me said that was to be expected, so why then did I have to walk over to establish this?), then the storage turned out to contain someone else's stuff, then the newly assigned storage unit was sealed so I had to find someone to open it for me. Also I had to buy a lock but there was already a new lock in the unit, which was confusing. Did I really need to buy a new lock? Reason for losing a star is that I reserved a storage locker online and was told that no lockers of that size were available when I arrived. It doesn't make sense to allow people to reserve something that doesn't exist. I specifically drove to that location for that size. Honestly the unit was not built for short people. The 2 step ladder that was there was barely helpful. I did not like my experience at all. If I would've known that I was going to have to climb to put storage on the top level I would've brought a bigger ladder. Also, you have a promotion that says "first month free with a truck rental" and that promotion was not applied to me. All the good things aside, I'm still really bothered at what brought me to today. I received a letter from Mr Corbeil stating that Uhaul had not received my payment and were now assessing a late charge. I called immediately and spoke with Cindy who was outstandingly helpful in rectifying this situation but could not explain to me what had happened. Seems my financial info had been removed/lost from the system -not of my doing-and I had to resupply my card which had paid my monthly automatic payment to date. There was never a problem with my card. Personally I would like to see more of an apology from Uhaul for this incident then simply a rescinding of the late fee. 1) The floors were very rough and needed maintenance very much. When you have a cart loaded and the floors are rough things fall off and break. I am sure there is concrete filler that can fill it in and smooth it out at low cost. 2) The access system was terrible. I had to go to the office twice to get a new card. The third time I went in, the office staff gave me their code so we could get in. This is a terrible inconvenience. 3) I also found there to be problems with the carts. First, the number of carts. This is arguably one of the worst storage facilities I've ever been to. The facility is definitely understaffed and customers end up waiting quite a while to talk with employees and access the moving trucks and storage rentals. The employees are extremely rude and unhelpful, the facility has poor/inconsistent signage, and the maps are nonexistent or indecipherable, so you end up wasting time trying to find your rental location. The facility called me three times about my rental, but made it impossible to talk with any staff because wait times to talk with a U-Haul employee were in excess of 45 minutes. We reserved a storage unit over a month ago on your website that advertises several places "reserve a storage unit!" When we arrived, not only was the unit that we reserved not available, but we were told they were first come first serve. This is false advertising and incredibly disappointing and frustrating to be informed that the work we did to be prepared was disregarded by your company. After over an hour, we reserved two smaller units and have to pay for the first month in one even though we were offered "first month free" with our truck rental. Overall I liked the experience, but the major red flag for me was the following. About 1 month prior to my move, I reserved a truck and storage unit online. As I turned up for my truck I was told that storage unit I booked online was unavailable, because someone else took it already -- this was a big problem for me, because I had to relocate my personal belonging to storage and this is why I booked it online 1 month before. I was sent around 2 other U-Haul storage facilities in and around Boston, which not only added mileage to the truck I was driving, but also exposed me to incremental labor cost of TaskRabbit, which I hired for the job. In summary, I would not recommend U-Haul to a friend, because of this major issue. My unit has an extra set of steps that I wasn't told about before renting it. It's also very far from the elevator. If I had known how far I have to carry large furniture, I would not have rented here. Also, I was not told beforehand that I would have to give out a friends address and phone (the "third phone number" requirement). That's an onerous requirement. Finally, we had trouble finding the unit the first time, even though we asked staff for directions. We had to go back twice to the customer service desk to ask where it was and even then it she was unhelpful. This was my first time renting from Medford U-Haul. I had a very good conversation with two employees in the morning. However they failed to mention the after hours return fee of $20 that I was charged. I initially had my reservation booked until 3:00 pm. I asked if it could be extended and the person sitting at the front desk agreed to reschedule to 6 pm without any charge. When returning the vehicle, the mobile app accepted the photos initially but went back to the same screen when I clicked next. It took more than an hour before the app finally worked. There is always issues with door access after hours, and even though their is a 24 hour phone number on the mail keycard panel, the number is for "Bob's" personal cell phone doesn't "WORK" where he lives. other time all the doors are left open all night long. I also tried to remove 24 hour access for over six months, after one of my phone calls to U-Haul's 800 number where I asked again about removing access I got a letter stating that the rent will increase by the same amount. Within 30 minutes of being at the Uhaul facility, I walked into an unlocked bathroom to witness someone shooting up heroine. They were not a customer of Uhaul, but were able to freely walk around the unlocked section of the storage facility. They proceeded to loiter for 1.5 hours, with several men loitering along side her. A separate man (also not a customer of Uhaul as he never entered the card access area) loitered around the facility for multiple hours, and seemed to be selling drugs out of the back of his Penske rental truck. How no Uhaul representative noticed any of this going on is beyond me and incredibly concerning to me. I was at the facility for a total of 2 hours in the middle of the day, so I am very concerned as far as what else goes on at the facility. We came on 1/30/2021 to access the storage unit for the first time and were told by the staff that they were too busy to accommodate us accessing the unit and instructed to return at 6:30pm. At 6 pm I called the facility to ensure that we could be accommodated and I waited on hold for 30 minutes... decided not to go in at this time for obvious reasons. We returned the following morning and were helped with our unit. This did take some time and when we left there was a huge line of people behind us. I was first given the wrong unit number and had to return to the front desk. I also had to ask for a different unit because it was up a flight of stairs. When I returned to the storage elevator, the access card didn't work. I then got a new one, but upon returning to the storage unit I found that it was locked. But it turned out to be the wrong key, so we had to wait for her to go back to the front desk to get the right one. When we called them, they put up many obstacles to pursuing the matter. We dropped it. Your units are dark and poorly maintained. I would not recommend UHaul for storage to anyone in the future. We found a much cleaner and lighter unit run by a local company. I wish we had gone there earlier. The condition of my storage unit was average. The people in the office were not very friendly or helpful. I would often be put on hold up to 30-40min and would rarely get my question answered when I finally talked to someone. When I was moving out, they did not allow me to drop my Pod on the property (Unless It was a U-box) so therefore I needed to rent A box truck to transport all of my things to my Pod located 0.2 miles away. 1. I was very surprised when I got to my unit, I was told it was 6' deep x 6' wide by 8' high. Instead, it was 8' deep x 6' wide x 6' high. I really wanted that extra height, but unfortunately this was the very last unit available on an elevator floor. (Units are split level with some on the elevator level, the other up a steep flight of 8 stairs.) 2. I was REALLY surprised to find that there is no lighting at all within the unit, so we were basically moving things around in the dark. 3. There is a concrete post right in the corner of the unit, rendering about 24 cubic feet useless. The people were lovely. Everyone I worked with was polite, patient, and wearing a mask. Your website says to be 15 min earlier before closing to be able to get the unit that I reserved so i arrived and I was in the office 35 min earlier. the person in charge he didn't want to give me the unit complaining how he was short stuff. So He made me drive back again a distance 45 min and come back an other 45 min drive so i can get the unit next day. I work in a fast food industry as a manager I am always short stuff and costumers come in 10 min before close what would I say I am sorry I don't make your food ? Store was VERY busy due to the colleges moving students out of the dorms, yet there was only one person working at the desk who is very overwhelmed by the people standing in line. There did not seem to be a manager or anyone else around. Even though we checked in online we still had to go into the store and wait in line because our code did not work, and there was no free lock inside the storage room they initially assigned us and once we got the lock it did not work because the door was not lined up properly. We had to go back and wait in line again in order to be switched into another room. There was a gentleman who was taking people to their storage rooms and he came with us to make sure that the room was satisfactory this time and that the lock did work. We rented our unit on March 11th, the day before U-Haul announced that college students could have one month for free. I have called the local store several times and no one answers and I get transferred to the National customer service who keeps telling me there's nothing they can do that I have to talk to the local locationfor the free month since we rented the unit the day before the free month was offered by U-Haul. I will still continue to call because the only reason we rented this unit was because my daughter was told to move out of her dorm and we knew if we didn't rent it immediately we would probably not be able to get a spot. The workers we dealt with were friendly, but the store seemed to be understaffed, and the staff that was there seems to be overwhelmed.
