Upon arriving to return the truck, a sign said to remain with the equipment until greeted be someone to complete the processing. After waiting five to ten minutes, and not having been greeted, I called the center, at which time an employee promptly attended to my needs. I wonder how long I would have been waiting had I not called. However, overall, my experience was pleasant.

Picking up the U-Haul was problematic. I got a call on Wednesday saying I was unable to use a cargo van to move Out if state which was fine. The woman I spoke to at the Athens location in Redding explained because of the mix up I would get the 10’ truck for the price of the cargo van rental, which was about $531. I signed up for self check out but I would need to call a specific Number 18009359935 to receive the code to open my uhaul because I was unable to pay online and the location was closed. When I got a hold of a representative he said he wasn’t sure and was going to put on hold. After waiting and getting no answer or help I canceled the reservation and made another one at the East cypress U-Haul where I paid almost double the price for another persons mistake and complications.

The Redding store was busy and they appeared to be short staffed. We did not look inside our 4x8 trailer, it was just hooked up and the lights tested. The young man was pleasant and efficient. The inside proved to be dirty and the trailer was very wet inside when we opened in up after our 9 hr drive, with quite a bit of rain. The leaking of water came from a tweeked upper hinge that had not been noticed when the trailer was turned in last.

More time and direction could have been taken to load my car onto the trailer. One of the tire straps came undone about 400 miles down the road. I got it back on and then started checking them about every 200 miles. The window wipers were very flimsy and one partially came off during some rainy weather. I was able to reattach it, but you seriously need to spring for better wipers on your trucks.

I had a question on the mileage rate that I was charged. You advertise your trucks to be $0.89 per mile, but I noticed that I was charged at $1.09 per mile. I'm not sure if you just recently changed your rates or if this was an error, but that's a pretty big difference if someone puts a lot of miles on their truck.

The problem is with the reservation communication -was told I would get a call when the hauler was available, but did not. Reservation got cancelled instead. The reservation specialist did not have access to the equipment availability info. This is a structural problem! Uhaul needs to locate equipment first, then reserve and take payment.

I was told that if I wanted to return the vehicle early to park the truck in the yellow lines, toss the key in the box, and to be sure to checkout using the website or else I’d be charged $20. I did as directed but unfortunately you have to checkout with the website BEFORE dropping off the keys because it asks you to take a photo showing gas and mileage. Customers should be warned to go to the website FIRST. I wasn’t charged the extra $20 but I worried about it all night.

Avoid uhaul like the plague. Uhaul's incompetence took nearly 3 weeks to deliver my ubox. An associate gave us wrong information leading to delays. 3x the scheduled delivery dates were missed.

I never actually visited but the staff here and in Red Bluff were quite dedicated and helpful on the phone in arranging the move of four Uboxes and delivery to my home.
