Robert MAwful experience. We won’t use U-Haul anymore after this. We booked our rental 2 weeks in advance. Less than 24hrs before pickup time, they called to say they wouldn’t have a truck available at our location and we would have to pickup 20+ minutes away. When we arrived at said new location, they told my husband they also didn’t have a dolly for us…which was part of our rental. They claimed we checked a box agreeing that we’d receive a call by 5pm the day before to confirm the rental items would be available. Due to this, we’re not eligible for any compensation for this “inconvenience” because they called us at 4:30. They claimed they didn’t have the vehicle or dolly we needed because it was a “busy rental weekend”. When we mentioned that we made this reservation over 2 weeks ago, they said local driving is booked the day before (?)…so how did we have a reservation for them to “call to confirm” if we can’t book until the day before? When we asked why they wouldn’t plan ahead to have our truck at the correct location when booking 2 week ahead, they said they don’t drive the trucks…it’s dependent on where the renters drop off… I couldn’t find anything in their renter’s agreement or anywhere else that confirms what they said about the apparent box we checked. Even if this is true and that truly is the policy, it’s a terrible one that really doesn’t produce a positive experience for a customer. Moves are planned far in advance. To not have the equipment and find that out the night before is highly inconvenient. Unless you can rectify this with a refund, we’ll continue with leaving this similar review on all platforms as, thus far, they have been completely unwilling to work with us and absolutely did not meet our needs.

Kayla AThe facility was easy to access, clean and temperature controlled. The unit was in the smaller single floor unit to the north of the main facility so I didn't have to deal with an elevator when loading or unloading. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Diamonda FIt’s a little nerve racking to think you might be charged for damage that was already present on the unit. Please help customers feel at ease about the potential for being charged for something they didn’t do. The unit had small damages in places that were not marked with the X stickers and it just makes you feel like the blame could be put on you if you mess up checking the vehicle in or out. Otherwise, we have been very happy with U-Haul and the people at the Locust/Truman location in Kansas City! I didn’t get his name but the guy who checked us in was great and another gentleman was there when we returned off the clock(after close) and was being so helpful and really treated us well.

Sherman DLocation is short-handed on personnel (typical for U-Haul at other locations I've rented from. The staff hustles and works well with customers but you need at least one more to help out on Saturday mornings. Rating otherwise would be excellent.

Therefore, I was nearly charged $30 for gas for driving 12 miles in total.

I was rented out a truck with no working heat had to stand in the cold with my baby to wait for another one when I told the lady she act like she didn’t believe me sent extra people out to check me. Brenda COnly used storage for 1 month, after purchasing my own disk lock, I removed my lock and what belongings I needed or wanted I informed manager that I no longer need the storage unit , she informed me that there was a lock on the unit and would be charged for every month it was there until auction, I refused to pay for a unit that your employee knew was no longer needed and the lock wasn't mine, trying to make and get money that I do not owe

Donald PThe truck was in pretty questionable condition. I noticed several scratches and scuff marks on the passenger side mirror and a chip in the passenger side door handle. The rubber lining of the driver's side door was falling off. The interior of the truck smelled like smoke so that was rough to smell the whole time. My partner reported as he was driving behind me the truck bed was sort of bouncing pretty high after each minor bump in the road and I noticed the engine sort of struggling to pick up speed. These trucks have been through likely many, many moves and transports so I understand they're not going to be in excellent condition. I just worried some of these cosmetic and mechanical issues would be passed onto me as the customer even without fault of my own so had I needed the truck for a longer period of time, or for a longer move from one place to the next I don't think this was the best equipment for us to use. Aside from the equipment itself, the customer service at this location was great! I was really happy with how we were treated and the timeliness of the rental to get checked out, and to get checked back in. Thanks for the positive support!

My only gripe is that I had reserved a ground level unit and was given a 4th floor unit. I also checked in online and did not receive a free lock as indicated. I already had one with me, so this was a minor inconvenience. I would say overall this place is pretty cool and the staff is helpful. Since there are one way streets and backup moves to make, it’s not for a novice.

Often had to go out to the street because they refused to move even though they were not loading or unloading. Could be a little sketchy from time to time but I suppose that’s downtown for you. Biggest complaint is that it was difficult to actually pull up to the loading bay due to other people parked there for no reason.

We drove 6 hours from Iowa with the truck and only had less than an hour to unpack by the time we arrived. We knew the office would close but not that we would lose access to our storage locker With a moving truck of our size, I wish we didn’t have to move it all up to the third floor for storage. The space was sufficient but required dozens of trips up the freight elevator. Again, something I wish I would have known prior to arrival but, after successfully navigating the truck through downtown KC, I didn’t want to transport my cargo to a different storage facility. I can’t speak highly enough about the staff. From allowing us to stage the truck at the facility during the day so that we could take care of the business portion of the trip, to helping to move and park the truck...can’t speak highly enough about the staff you had working there today 13 May (day shift)

chauntel w | Overall ExperienceI am a military personnel and have orders to transfer to California in December. I have had the unit since August. On 11/18 the military set up a moving company to get all of my things, when I opened the door to my unit I surprised to find there was water damage! Pools of water was on top of my bins, some of my boxes collapsed do to the water. By this time the unit was basically drying out and creating black mold. My head board is cotton and was also ruined. The moving company had to be rescheduled so I could go through everything and repack/throw away ruined items. I was never notified by phone call or email about the incident. The manager ensured me someone was supposed to call all the renters to come check their unit . I was also informed that a sprinkler system pipe burst and they had to get all the piping redone on the 6th floor. This process was highly stressful and very inconvenient for me. The manager that day however was very helpful and gave me everything complimentary to repack my items and even moved me down to another storage unit that did not have damage so my items could be picked up on 11/19.

anita p | Overall ExperienceIn the middle of clearing out my storage unit on Monday, the elevators stopped working which made it impossible to move my couch and a few other large items. After waiting to see when the problem would be resolved, I decided to continue my move, leaving the couch in the storage unit to be retrieved when the elevators were working once again. The broken elevator issue created significant delays for my move which resulted in moving expenses that were much higher than I budgeted for. The moving company I hired is paid by the hour and distance driven, so having to wait to figure out what was happening with the elevator and then having to return to the storage unit hours later added a significant amount of time that I would not have had to pay for had the elevator been working properly.
