I've used uhaul for years with multiple moves and have always found service to be good/adequate. Yesterday, I needed both a van and access to my new storage locker rental and the gentleman with long hair who was working at the front desk and who was training another employee (wish I got his name to be able to give him recognition) was absolutely amazing: he was efficient, extremely helpful, friendly, and was able to assist me with all aspects of the storage locker and van rental process to make it a very smooth and pleasant process for me. Overall very prompt and clean service and rental was great. Unfortunately, one of the employees, Gary, was incredibly rude and refused to help me when the mobile check-in process wasn't working, yelling at me and blaming the technological failure on me. Customer service was extremely poor. I was met by a woman with a horrible attitude, it was obvious she didn't want to work there or be bothered with assisting customers. I drove the van a total of 4 miles as I was moving within center city and some how ended up having to pay over $30 in gas to fill the tank to the level required by my receipt. I forgot to check and take a picture of the tank level as it was a hectic day and I wanted to get things moving. This was my fault but it's really disappointing that the requisite level was wrong to begin with. I told the woman upon my return and she basically told me she â€œcouldn't help, bye.â€Alexis O.

Changing pick up time without notice and less than 24 hours of original pick up. Attitude when I called and asked if there was another location I could pick up from. The man on duty was rude beyond belief. I had a bad experience with him on Easter morning and when I saw him yesterday I avoided any conversation, dealing only with the woman on duty. When I picked up the van on the street the man came out and berated me for what he remembered from Easter, etc. Told me he was not a slave and that I treated him that way because he was black, etc. etc. Awful. I am extremely disappointed with my experience. I scheduled a uhaul for 8am pickup using the 24/7 mobile functionality. Upon arrival I was denied in the app the ability to pick my keys up and told to wait until 9 when the store opened. I spoke with the representative at the store who told me â€œI cannot and will not help you until 9am when we open. Our boxes are broken for mobile pickup. You need to leave until 9â€. I then waited another half hour upon arrival at 9am because of other customers being served before me. This delayed my trip an entire hour and a half. Absolutely miserable experience and I may never use uhaul again from this location or at all.Bret A.

Javier Maldonado was absolutely amazing, oatient, kind and courteous ... PLEASE GIVE HIM A RAISE & A DAY OFF!!!! My check out was wonderful. My return, not at all. The woman at the counter was short and dare I say, plain rude. I always use this location and generally have a pleasant experience. This woman needs customer service training. She told me "Leave the keys, you will get a receipt in a few minutes." I was the ONLY person in the store so there was no reason for her to ignore me and be rude but such is Philly sometimes. The gentleman who handled my reservation on arrival was friendly and efficient. However I do not plan to ever use UHAUL again thanks to Philadelphia's scheduling department. I reserved a 20ft truck which they rented out and stuck me with a 15ft truck. Thanks to the Philadelphia schedulers, I was not able to move all my belongings and have incurred great additional expense to make a second trip with another vehicle. For this reason, I would never use UHAUL again.Daniel K.

The staff at the uhaul in Philadelphia were completely unprofessional. While the vehicle itself was fine, the staff working that day were rude and unprofessional. We initially had a reservation at 8am for a cargo van. At 7:30am one of the staff calls us saying â€œare you coming to pick up the vehicle or not? We are going to give it away if you are not comingâ€ I stated on the phone that our reservation said 8am and we got the confirmation email and text saying it was for 8am and that we were on the way. The staff member then said â€œyeah whatever.â€ And proceeded to hang up the phone in the middle of me speaking. We had arrived at the uhaul location, and on the reservation we had selected mobile pickup. Keep in mind we were there 15 minutes before our reservation (at 7:45am). We went through the online pickup process with our cargo van when another customer gets into our van and takes off with it. We went up to the counter where the uhaul representatives said that they gave our van to someone else, even though we had checked in. It was completely absurd and we were charged for not only that reservation but the new reservation we had to make because they gave away our initial van. The entire time the staff were talking about how it was our fault that it happened when we had no control over it whatsoever. I have never in my life received such unprofessional customer service in my life.John S.

The location is convenient if you are in center city. One lady was super friendly and helpful when I visited to ask questions. The day I picked up vehicle I had one of the worse customer service experienced ever in my life. Thought it was a prank , unfortunately it wasn't. However the vehicle was great and clean and new. Very much enjoyed the cargo van and will use again. This location is ok but not mu cvs room so hard to park late at night returning it .judy K.
Ordered a "Van" days in advancedto be picked up at 11:30 am. Upon arrival was told I would be given a pickup truck. Which I was unable to move my furniture with. Was given the option for a van at a later time at 1:30p. Upon packing said van and going to a storage facility of abother company it was already closed. Storage facility was supposed to facililitating my move to Florida next week and Wednesday was the only apportioned time. Had to give all furniture to good will. Your service was wasteful as I paid fu price for a layer time and then what I needed and just wound up giving all furniture away. The staff at this facility are notorious scum bags. They are either on their phone, or looking for any other excuse NOT to help you in a timely and reasonable manner. My previous visit, I waited outside (on a rainy day in a bad neighborhood in Philly) 2 hours for a staff to show up and correct the fact that my key was not available (as it was supposed to be) via their 24/7 digital process through the app. On this experience, there was a minor chip in the plastic key chain holder, and the staff asked me what happened to it upon returning the key. I responded by politely saying I didn't know, and that maybe the keychain was already broken when I received the key. The staff proceeded to tell me that was impossible then went on to give me a lecture on why men shouldn't lie when talking to other men. I offered to pay $5-$10 to fix the issue and he declined and told me to leave. I'll never use this store again, the employees are absolute clowns.Adam S.

After waiting in line-only one employee waiting on customers-and then getting my vehicle, I made the mistake of not contesting the amount of gas in the vehicle. Due to the unanticipated line, I was already running late to retrieve my paintings from an exhibit. Hence, I shrugged it off and thought I'd discuss it with the guy upon return. Worse case scenario, when I got back, I could always get back in the van, drive to a gas station, and put another gallon or so in it. When I came back, I told the employee about the gas situation, and, if UHaul refused to believe me, I would begrudgingly get back in the van and put more gas in it. He kind of shrugged me off, and told me to hold on, as he was dealing with a customer. Suddenly, the manager decided to take over. He grabbed the keys and walked outside. "You can go home, if you want," the employee said. I told him again why I was waiting, and that I wanted a paper receipt. He rolled his eyes. The manager did not return to settle my order. Instead, he drove the van into the building and began cleaning it. 15 minutes passed, and I was still waiting. Knowing what I wanted, the other employee chose to simply ignore me. Finally, the manager returned. He was rather terse with me, reading me the amount charged to my card, as he handed me the receipt. Immediately, I knew he had charged me for the gas. I then told him that the gas was wrong. He was indignant. "Did you use the link that was sent to your phone?" he said rather condescendingly. "No, I had to get to where I was going," I said. He then read me some scripted response, refusing to listen to my reasoning. I told him that I had a receipt with the gas I had put in it. If you factor in the MPG the van gets, the miles that were listed on the odometer when I left UHaul, and the miles driven, it became clarion that he was in the wrong.The fact that I had been willing to put more gas in the vehicle, rather than pay the ridiculous "convenience" refueling fee, despite knowing I was right, appeared irrelevant to him "So, I'm screwed, correct?" I questioned. With a smug grin on his face, and his arms folded in a combative posture, he more or less stated that he was finished with me. It's not the nearly $12 I was charged for gas I did not use, it was the principal. UHaul had already profited off my rental rather nicely, having driven 96 miles. It's this kind of miserable experience that makes me want to use Penske, Enterprise, or Budget in the future, and also encourage others to do so. UHaul is usually the cheapest, but in the long run, it becomes the most costly.Morgan C.

I was told i was not allowed on the premises in 2018. They locked my storage unit. They changed my door code. I had NO access to my stuff since then. Even AFTER a $900 payment, imI STILL remained LOCKED OUT. I was never given access, i was never notified, i never heard ANYTHING from them. As far as i was concerned, my stuff had already been sold when they had the police called because they thought i was running a business out of the unit, then thought i had hazardous material, then they assumed i was living there. 1)Reserved storage unit wasn't available. I got a smaller one temporarily with a promise that larger one will become available and someone would notify me. That never happened. 2) On the first visit after office hours entry was not granted to the building. Other people were going in without problems but I couldn't. I had a full car of things to unload. Despite numerous calls nobody assisted and I had to use another storage unit in NJ. Office worker had to do something day later to fix the system to make sure my access is working. 3) On the first month automatic payment didn't go through and I was charged late fee. All information provided for the payment was accurate (I took screenshots). I asked for more details so that I can clear it up with the bank but I never got any answer from U-Haul. Also, there was no notification that my payment was rejected. I filed a claim for damages to my furniture and still haven't got the issue resolved due to a leak, and now it's being said there was no leak which is a lie I have photos of the damages and the assistant manager saw the damages, I would not recommend this facility to anyone, the insurance they use is a joke, the assistant manager Angel offered some throw blankets for the furniture which didn't help much at no fault of hers and I did appreciate it, As for the manager he never called or reached out in any way after he was emailed. Everything went very smoothly until I actually needed to use my unit. Access hours are clearly marked as 5am to 10pm. I showed up at 8pm and GUESS WHAT??? It's apparently not access hours! I don't care if your access hours are only 4 hours a day… LABEL YOUR HOURS CORRECTLY! I can't think of anything more aggravating. I've used this storage locker multiple times in the past and always had incredibly positive experiences until yesterday. Off the bat, the woman assisting me was irritated and distracted while chatting on facetime. She then said she couldn't assist me because they were closing, despite it being 40 minutes before closing. I had to insist to at the very least get my key card and unit #. Additionally, the online hours for this facility say office hours go until 8pm and storage access until 10pm. But I was told I'm not allowed to go anytime after office hours, which apparently are until 7pm. I made an online reservation and activated my account at the storage site on May 8th,2021. The staff I opened my account with were friendly and respectful. She communicated to me the difference between UHaul's office hours and access hours. I understood the storage unit access hours were until 10PM. On June 26,2021 I arrived at the loading dock around 6:50PM, and was told to leave the building by the staff working that day. They stated only businesses had access to the storage unit 24/7. They were rude and unprofessional. We waited outside for two hours trying to figure out why we didn't have access until 10PM. It was extremely stressful as we came from CT to access the storage unit. We called UHaul's and they informed us we should be able to access the storage unit prior to 10PM. On July 10,2021 I closed the account unit I had open. The same staff who I interacted with in June closed my account. While I was leaving the elevator I witness a UHaul's woman employee being a Hennessy alcoholic bottle from her car (that was parked inside were the Uhaul vehicles are) to the front desk where she was working.Ashley R. | Overall Experience

The staff didn't give me any explanation and then told me they could retrack my "reservation", after I was already frustrated for standing there with no answers for over 20 mins. The Associate Sunday (male) was very helpful, knowledgeable and helped me with closing my unit. The overall condition of the unit was dirty and disgusting. Made a reservation for a storage unit but was told, when I arrived, that the size was not available. I was offered a smaller sIze of unit. Apparently this is common. This is not the correct use of the word "reservation" and meant I could have ended up in a situation where I had nowhere to put my things. Had an issue where I called to see when I could access my unit (was told until 10pm) but turns out it was only until 8pm. I couldn't get in. If I had had a flight or something the next day it could have been bad, but luckily I could come back the next day. Manager was kind to offer me credit for the inconvenience (although I have not seen it yet).Wilson B. | First Impressions

When it was time to vacate i had forgotten my key. The general manager said he couldn't cut the lock that I had to find a licensed locksmith and that person had to show proof of insurance. That's all well and good for Uhaul to protect from liability, but its a bloody nuisance for the customer. I drove almost 70 miles from NJ and had to wait for an 1 1/2 before I could locate one with the requisite documentation. Why is this my problem . Partner up with your local licensed locksmith or hire them per-deim . I'm sure many customers forget their key or lose it so it was anticipated but not adequately handled. After an apartment fire in central Philadelphia, we had an emergency need for a large locker, and a truck to move furniture and belongings into storage. This UHaul location made the job (relatively) easy, and when we were ready to move everything out, to a new place the staff were friendly and efficient. Understand this is a center-city facility; a repurposed early 20th century factory building. It's not a purpose-built modern building. But the storage area is properly climate controlled, and well-lit in the storage area. The freight elevators are slow, but large and easily accessible. There are adequate carts for moving goods between trucks and lockers. Doors and elevators require either access codes or magnetic cards (user's choice), so security is pretty strong. A mistake from the truck pick-up location in St. Louis, I was dispatched to the wrong location in Philly: with the storage unit at one place and truck drop off at another. After a stressful move, 3 days of driving, during a global pandemic, losing time driving to the wrong location in a city I didn't know, and then showing up without the storage reservation with only 2 hours to unload by myself, I nearly broke down in the lobby once I realized the dispatch mistake. Tears were welling. Precious was behind the counter watching all this happen. She immediately stepped in, asked if I needed water, got me a unit and assured me everything would be okay. Without a doubt, Precious was the person I needed in that moment in time. Beyond stellar customer service, she showed me how Philly gets it done. Precious is a leading person in the story I tell people about this move. And everyone is grateful she was there to help me out, as am I. The billing was easy and was notified of each payment. We found out when we went to remove our belongings, the storage unit I paid for was not the storage unit the items were in. A lock was added to our unit stating we owed for several months. The lady who assisted us told us she needed to find her phone and then she would remove the lock added to the wrong unit. It was very frustrating we were not treated as a valued customer. We had to get another employee to help us since the previous person was too busy finding her phone. She also deactivated our key so we couldn't get in the elevator until another employee noticed we needed help and assisted us. We also heard her yelling with the customer before us. The only Reason that I do not give an excellent Rating is that I had to go back to the facility the next day to close my contract. By that time they already charged me an extra month. The people in store solved it with no hesitance, but I had to go back to the store. I was lucky I decided to stay in Philadelphia for an extra day. The staff were nice, but the medium unit that I reserved was entirely too small for my belongings & I distinctly told the customer service rep over the phone what I had. As a result of the mix-up, my family began unpacking only to find out that the unit was too small & there were no large units to accommodate us.
