Kenneth RI got a dud truck, and was forced to spend a night in a rest stop along Route 87 because the roadside assistance refused to get the truck towed when it was necessary. I was refunded for most of my purchase, but still, that roadside assistance (and the people who rented me a truck in pretty terrible condition) made for a very difficult experience.
Michael SThe automated return after hours ate not easy to follow. It's not readily organized. A numerical system would definitely work. For instance the bar code. If it wasn't for the fact the guys were locking up and still on the ground, I NEVER would have found it. Yes, some of us need a step by step directive. Yes, I was looking at my phone, but that still didn't show me where the teeny-tiny-almost visible bar code was. After that it was pretty good. One other thing, picking up the van. You wanted me to verify the condition of the roof of the van. I'm 5 feet tall. How am I supposed to verify a roof I can't see?

Troy HWe rented a 10" box truck and while the cab was in good condition the storage area was soaking wet and leaking lots of water. We had lots of water damage to our items, the back of the truck was not waterproof at all.

Niel NWe had a class 2 hitch and wiring installed on our 2024 Toyota RAV4. Very good experience overall. Called and got a quick response. Dropped the car off at 8:30 am and they called at 10:30am and the hitch and wiring were done. The job was neat, clean and worked well when I hooked up the trailer. I definitely would recommend this UHaul.

Gary DThe staff is not ethical. They tried to say that I did damage to a vehicle that I know for an absolute fact I did not. The alleged damage was a discoloration possibly from an object rubbing against it, the size smaller that 1/4 inch. They said I rubbed the side of the truck against something. If that was the case, there would have been a lot more damage. Then they said it was a tree, but we are in the dead of winter and there are NO LEAVES ON THE TREES!! I have done business plenty of times with this location and never had an issue. I always pay for the damage waiver so why would they try to charge me for alleged damage if I paid for a damage waiver? The representative told me that when the manger drove it back to the site that he didn’t see any 1/4 green damage. So gow do I know that the manager didn’t rub up against something and blaming a customer instead? Yes I approved the inspection pictures but the picture of the side of the vehicle was taken from a distance that makes it impossible to see a 1/4 green scratch. Unfortunately now I will be suing this location for slander, unethical business practices and will be seeking punitive damages. They will not be allowed to do this to anyone again!

Katelynn NMy first and last experience! Started with representative in New Windsor Office Davon, very professional young man. However if I would have seen the U-Haul box in person instead of the in office brochure I would've went a different route. There was a discrepancy of the final drop off date, Initially told the 1/25th, then1/28, then 2/5 only to receive 2/6. this resulted in me taking a flight to NC to meet the boxes on the 25th. the instructions were not clear, very disappointed. the only reason I didn't choose POOR was because Newburgh U-Haul did oblige me when I need the 2nd box.

David HI had a problem using the app to return the vehicle. I kept recieving an internal error. The truck had a warning message on it about the tire, the site said to ignore it. I had no issues but when renting a truck I dont want to worry about it. And it also prevented me from seeing the mileage except for when i turned on the truck.

deborah mAnd inform drivers of the tow haul button that I cannot find on the vehicle for the longest time. It was located on the arm of the windshield wiper at the tip. You push the button to turn it off. It will guzzle your gas.

Craig KWhen I picked the truck up, the fuel was below 1/8 of a tank of gas (roughly 30 miles to low fuel per the warning on the dash). I called UHAUL and documented that the fuel was much less than what was provided on the paperwork (1/4 tank). I was informed that I should not have left the parking lot without reporting to the attendant. Apparently there was nothing that could be done since I accepted the truck in the link they provided. Two things - (1) When I accepted the truck, my focus was on reviewing the condition the equipment (scratches and dents) and not on the fuel level. I incorrectly assumed that would have been reliable. I understand that I did click through and confirm the indicated level, but when I immediately called to report the situation, customer service stated that they couldn't do anything. (2) Why would the fuel level be so low in the first place? At the counter, the attendant indicated that the truck had 1/4 tank of gas. When I pick up the equipment, I didn't expect to have to get fuel on the way back (and try to estimate how much I would use during the move). Of all the things that I had to coordinate during the move timeline, immediately getting fuel was not on my list. For fear of being charged a penalty for returning the truck with less fuel than was states, I put in several more gallons of fuel than I used. When I returned the truck at the end of the day, I spoke with the attendant at the location about the fuel situation. Again, nothing was done even though I had the photo of the low fuel indicator and the fuel receipts. For my next move, I'll definitely look for another company in hopes them having better documentation of the status of their equipment before renting it and better customer service.

Knowing that we were moving out, I never really pushed harder for it. Both times there was flooding, the staff was very informative about the incident and they were as accommodating as can be with removal of ruined property, settling, etc.

CARL M | Overall ExperienceI’ve used U-haul for the past 10 years and have always suggested their services to clients and friends, until now… I’ve had the worst experience at the Newburgh, NY location! The customer service/client care does not exist! While moving in someone tried to steal my plants and the women who attempted to steal them said that the representatives inside the office told her she could have the plants - very well knowing the plants belonged to me. I was supervising them while unloading/sitting in my vehicle. Aside from that, a previous representative told me if I didn’t move my plants they would put them in the garbage! While less than 20 ft away is a huge mess of garbage, furniture, and a plethora of discarded junk sitting in the loading area! But a beautiful plant ( living thing) is what they said will end up in the trash if I did not move it?! How could U-Haul treat their customers like this, tag their credit cards for whatever additional incidents and then expect to have repeat customers?! Please think twice before using any type of U- haul service. Use Home Depot, Hertz, Enterprise, Edge, C&C, Penske or Budget truck rentals. In my opinion U- haul is no longer the reputable/respectable company they once were! I forgot to mention, while I was unloading my belongings, I spoke with other customers moving their belongings out, and they too confirmed that the customer service (rather one specific person) was extremely unpleasant and not friendly/cooperative at all. So, it just wasn’t me having the bad experience.

anter f | First ImpressionsSorry but I reserved a 10 x 10 locker and that is what I receive. However, the 10 x 10 locker has a door that’s maybe 3 feet wide. Due to such a small door on a large locker I had to go through so many complications to try and get my stuff into the locker. there is no way a 10 foot locker should have that kind of a door and it not be made known to the customer and allow them to have the choice on rather not they wanted to except a locker with such a small door. I have to take and most of the stuff out of the truck to see the end of the locker has such a small door and you might not be able to get the things into the locker , that is very wrong. In addition to that to find out afterwards that you guys have no lockers, it is now 5 o’clock at night and most of the other facilities are close so there’s no way to get another location to put my stuff in it just seems like very bad business. if it wasn’t that time of night and I had most of the stuff offloaded from the truck, there’s no way I would’ve kept a locker. Communication needs to be better so that the customer would have choices and what they want to do not have them sign a contract and offload the items only to find out That what they signed a contract for. He’s not even something they want or something that works for them.

We literally just moved all of our stuff from a dirty filled with bugs from another storage unit of a different company, we had to wait their 30 days (which is why we reserved the date for a later date). It was hot outside that day. I asked for price adjustment for the item I asked for since it was gone but this guy at this location went above and beyond to help us. Everytime we went back they all were very friendly.....Funny thing is 7 years ago same thing happened with a truck rental that I only reserved 1 day before and a different guy literally said O well. And I didn't remember why I refused to go that location until this happened again. But that gentlemen definitely restored faith.

Barbara C | First ImpressionsSome of the staff were friendly and helpful (Javon in particular was very nice), but many were consistently unresponsive and curt. The worst by far was Jamie Mapes who was absolutely awful during the recent flood at Middlehope facility. I called her number a half a dozen times and texted her - with ZERO reposes. Her staff tried to be helpful, but they had not been trained in what to say to customers and caused huge stress and miscommunication. Moreover, the UHaul policies regarding flood-damaged storage units is totally unacceptable - with UHaul staff telling customers "we threw away anything in your unit that was wet" and not giving clear advance notice of this action. I will never use UHaul again, for storage or trucks, and I will openly talk about the unfair and horrible customer service. We lost 40% of our storage contents to flood and mold damage, and we were told that "maybe some items were thrown away" with no inventory or photos provided to us. It was a horrendous experience. On top of that, the mold that we found in our contents was much older than the recent flood event, which means that the flooding has been happening for months or even years, with NO notification to the customers.

When I finally moved all of my belongings out during the week of May 23,2021, I experienced my first and only hiccup! Due to the fact I was paying for 2-different units and I emptied both out within a week of each other, a staff member erroneously confirmed my move-out for my 2nd unit albeit it was not for the correct unit… At the end, I’m grateful I wasn’t charged additional fees and left U-Haul as a satisfied customer. Something to keep in my, there is NO pro-rating, so if a customer moves out & still has up to 29-days left in their unit, there is NO refund. Good to know.

I have used trucks and containers at multiple locations and they have all regarded. Moving my belongings out was so that I could go to a competitor. The trucks list inaccurate dimensions regarding volume and when question the people renting you the truck they say they can't do anything. There is so much misrepresentation throughout their entire business that I will not use any of their services.

Thee guys bent over backward to accomodate us, particularly after the 2020 pandemic hit which was a stressful time for us. Frank S | Overall ExperienceOver a 3-yr rental experience at this location where not one payment was late (auto paid on credit card for 3 years), the cleanliness was ok. Security was not great since doors to storage were open during business hours and anybody can walk in without access card. Individual storage padlock was main security measure. Lighting was ok, not great in corners. Our unit suffered moisture intrusion once and several boxes were damaged. However my biggest complaint and the reason we canceled our contract and moved to a different facility after 3 years, was the contract update process. Started with a $130/month rate. Went up every year, with 60-day notice, but without any regard for long time customers who auto pay. However in December 2020 in the middle of a global pandemic, the rate went up from $150 to $160/month for the same unit. This happened with no written or email written notice. When I called to enquire UHaul corporate office pointed to the Newburgh location saying "they should have notified you" and Newburgh staff pointed to UHaul saying "rate increases are the location's decision." One manager said a notice had been sent, another said it did not matter if any rate increase notification was sent. The spirit of the contract with UHaul - that both parties need to agree to any rate changes in writing - was meaningless. As a customer if I decided not to make complete payments and reduced my payment by 25%, there would be immediate consequences including the auction of my storage contents. The other party to the contract however, increased the rate by 25% with no notice and there were no consequences. This is not how a contract works. When I lift the gate the unit floor was dirty. Although disappointed, I went back to customer service desk but the young lady was already gone. I ask the young man for a broom and a pick up to sweep out the unit space, he was very confused why I would be ask6for a broom so I proceeded to explain my situation in hand. All in all the staff was very nice however I was disappointed that I had to arrive to clean up someone else mess.

When I brought the complaint forward a 2nd time it was actually corrected within 2-3 days but I had to be on hand with the unit to open it for repairs which was inconvenient but necessary. Overall experience with staff while I was a customer 4+ stars... recommended!
