This location seemed faily new and clean. My father in law informed the location that one of the wheels might need alignment and the response was "I'm sure is probably nothing". Thats a huge liability issue people! If someone uses that truck and its not properly serviced. Again this location were rushing about the truck because someone else was delayed due to the lack of equipment. GET IT TOGETHER U-HAUL AND GET MORE EQUIPMENT OR DO NOT ALLOW THE SYSTEM TO PROMISE CUSTOMER RESERVATIONS WHEN YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH EQUIPMENT!

The overall experience using Uhaul's U-Box containers was a poor experience. The delivery of the 3 U-Box's in Melrose Park was the good part. I was able to pack up my containers without issues. Uhaul picked up and transported the 3 containers to Arizona quickly. Then all the issues and problems happened. When I requested to have the 3 U-Box's to be delivered to my house earlier, customer service said that it was possible and made the change of service. However, the 3 containers failed to be delivered on the new date. It took 3 days later for them to finally arrive. I then encountered that I wasn't able to open one U-Box. The number of the container was different than what I was given in Melrose Park. Plus it had a different lock on it, which I couldn't open. I called customer service, but since it was late in the day, I couldn't get an answer till the next morning. Turns out, Uhaul claimed that one U-Box was damaged and my possessions needed to be moved to another U-Box. Uhaul claimed they called me, but I have no emails, texts or voicemails regarding this issue. That new U-Box was ultimately mine in the end. Uhaul moved my stuff but failed to pack the new container properly. To this day, I don't know where during the journey the new U-Box was needed. I had to hire a locksmith to open the U-Box so I could get my stuff out. Uhaul has refunded my money for that service. However, light boxes were packed on the bottom with heavy boxes on top of them. I had photo/TV boxes with framed glass pictures inside placed horizontally with multiple boxes on top of them. Note: They were placed in the 1st U-Box standing upright, but were not in the same position in the 2nd. I have noticed some damage to items, most likely due to poor packing into the U-Box. I am still going thru my stuff to see if anything else was affected. I am going to contact customer service to discuss this horrible experience. I am demanding a refund of some of payment. That horrible experience with one U-Box should give one free U-Box rental. I will never use nor recommend Uhaul U-Box service to anyone else if moving is needed. While the price was decent, the service was horrible and was very unreliable. Removing one's items without consent is sketchy and a perfect way to steal any item out of the U-Box. I am wondering if I did receive everything. Since I didn't load it up when the new U-Box was needed, I have to hope Uhaul was honest and didn't screw me over. Pass this on to the upper management, for they need to see this.

I had to go to three places before they could get my reservation. PALOS was supposed to have it, then I was sent to Broadview, then I got it at Melrose. Very frustrating.

Broadview ill Numbers may be good awful manager been there way too long and Comfortable time TO GO!!! Said this for 4yrs everything is reserved UHAUL FAVORITE SCAM! Last is Forest park Illinois TERRIBLE location no rear entry exit fights police just to pull out the store because UHAUL to Cheap to get Ordnance from Village for exit gate good numbers again Awful manager Older 15yrs younger kids get you in out No it's reserved game! Time to move her out !! this isn't Personal like or dislike!! just business This people look you in the eye and Lie Costing Our business money way out of line. So get going with your local Stores especially BROADVIEW Forest park Illinois. We depend on UHAUL equipment every other day is great if manager doesn't lie and say whole store reserved only to drive by 30min or all day on routes still see it there. Obviously we need to set up Corporate accounts mybe that would help I'm humble and thoughtful over years well no need! THERE IS A NEED also stop the Nickel dime mileage other Company's are giving 200miles free or free mileage altogether for longer rental!! LET'S GET IT DONE. Keith

On August 24th, 2020 I rented a cargo van at the U-Haul at 1975 W. North Avenue in Melrose Park #857073. In over 35 years of renting vehicles in the Chicago area it was the worst rental experience I've ever had. I have used many different franchises in the past.My past positive involvements in the area made me comfortable and naive and open to fraud and deception. In fact extortion is the only word that can describe what happened when rental equipment is set up to fail and the customer is force to pay for that failure. I usually don't write reviews for businesses but I was so ill treated and disrespected during my last interaction with this U-Haul Center that I must relate my experience. For the last several years I've been using the U-haul center at Fullerton Ave. in Chicago. While driving on North Av. in Melrose Park I saw there was one closer to my residence so I stopped by and got their card so I could reserve a van for an early Monday pick up. I saw that they had several new ones up front. That next Monday morning I went to pick it up. The van I was directed to wasn't one of the newer ones. It had an Arizona license plate and had several dozen cross sticker marks indicating damage paint and scrapings all over the body. I looked it over and since I wasn't that concerned with superficial appearance and the interior was clean I drove off with it. From Melrose Park to the downtown Chicago central library, the Harold Washington Library. I collected the several large paintings from the Library Commissioner's office and headed back on the Eisenhower Expressway. Right after I passed under Halsted Street I felt a bump and heard a bang on the front right of the van. I assumed it may have been some highway debris hitting the van. The whole of the intersection, the spaghetti bowl, has been under construction for some time. When I looked over to my passenger's side rearview mirror I realized that it was gone. It had just flown off. It was terrifying. It is very dangerous to change lanes when you can't see what is to the right of your vehicle. I immediately tried to and pulled over and stopped on the side of the highway. I left my emergency blinkers on and walked back to see if I could recover the mirror enclosure. I did not see it and thought that maybe I was too far ahead so I jumped in the van, got off the Eisenhower and drove back to Wells St. so that I could reenter the Eisenhower. I drove slowly with my emergency blinkers as I looked for the auto part. I thought I saw something that looked like it but upon parking and walking to it, it turned out to be from a car. It is dangerous to walk on the side of an interstate and I felt very stressed so I thought I best move on. I continued to drive slowly looking but I did not find it. I delivered the work to storage and drove to the U-Haul franchise to return the vehicle within my agreed time. Upon arrival I went to the office and asked the young lady at the desk if I could speak to the manager before I checked in. Another young lady came out and as I walked with her to the van I related my story. Before I could get to the point she was already indicating that the van had all kinds of visual damage. I pointed out that all those scratches and paint damage had the little cross stickers indicating that they were recognized as being there before I drove the vehicle. I showed her where the rearview mirror wasn't and she said that I would still be responsible for it. I protested telling her that I never touched the mirror and that it flew of as I was driving normally. I was carrying fine art so I was very much careful. I hadn't hit anything or scrapped anything. In fact I never even adjusted the mirror when I first got in the van because I saw that there wasn't a remote adjustment button in the cab. I never touched it. It wasn't my fault. She said she had to get her manager. I walked back with her and when he came out I walked with him and repeated the events. He cut me off. He said that when I drove off I had two mirrors and when I came in I only had one so I was responsible. His assistant proceeded to show me a photograph of the front of the van on her phone as proof. I said of course the two mirrors were on when I left this morning but that doesn't mean that the right front one was appropriately secured. I never touched the mirror. For every point that I was trying to make the manager, Ben Shock, had an argument to discredit my experience and my honor. Ben Shock picked up the twisted cylindrical bearing still left in the enclosure and proceeded to show me how it was twisted all the while ignoring the obvious clear plastic glue that surrounded its enclosure. Someone had tried to repair and set the mirror in place hoping it would keep permanently. At that point he isn't even listening to me. He proceeded to mansplain to me the technology. The fact is the cargo van was covered with dozens of x stickers indicating where there were scrapes and damage to the body panels all around the vehicle. The damage reached five feet up each side and made large rectangular forms across the sides. It seemed as if someone had tried to squeeze the van through a space too small for it leaving the indentations and scrapes on both sides. If the side panels of the cargo van had been subjected to such violent distortion how can the side mirrors that stuck out further not be affected? Someone had taken the time to put the x stickers indicating acknowledgement of the visible damage to the body panels but not to the mirror enclosure. It is inconceivable that the mirrors would not be affected by such trauma. He continued by saying that I kept changing my story because I said that something may have hit it and yet it was twisted but that is not what I said. I had just gone through a very stressful experience and he was arrogantly and callously denigrating, obfuscating, and twisting my words. If I felt that this incident had been caused by something I did, mistaken or on purpose, I would consciously pay for it but this felt more and more like a set up. I understand that when you deal with the public one can get callous and fall into a us and them mentality but one should at least listen to the customer, look at the evidence, and try to find a more ethical outcome. I have never been treated as I have been treated by Ben Shock. Everything I told him was the truth and he treated me like a liar without even considering my point of view except as from the most base sense of morals. I feel that the culture in this U-Haul franchise is corrupt and misinterprets good business practices. During the initial rental pick up who would think to check the mirrors? Maybe I was naive but it's expected that certain things are a given in an honest professional operation, lug nuts on the wheels are tight, oil is full, turn signals work and lights are attached securely, etc. It is how a civil society and a proper business works. All I ask is that the damage charge be rescinded and credited back to my account. I willingly pay for those charges that I am responsible for but not for charges done in malfeasance and exploitation. I did not touch that mirror or did anything that would warrant the effect of it flying off while simply driving on the Eisenhower highway. Further I did not deserve to be treated as a liar and a thief. I'm willing to swear to this narrative under oath. I deserve an apology but I don't expect it from Ben Shock. I don't want this extortion to be the memory every time I see a U-Haul sign. Sincerely, Jose Andreu

Stephanie in 758 Traffic Department deserves a commendation for excellence in Customer Service. The reservation I made on 8/6/20 for a 10 foot moving van at a preferred pickup at G&G Service on Belmont and Harlem in Chicago at 8am was unable to be accommodated so the pickup time and location changed to a time and location totally off my moving schedule. Since I had movers coming early on 9/1, Stephanie was able to secure me exactly what I had requested in the original reservation. She literally saved my sanity. Thanks to her, the move went off without a problem.

Got charged for nothing and want us to hurry up because someone else had that truck reserved. Not our problem. Been calling all day and night and no pick up. Calling right now too and No pick up again. There’s no carts to carry stuff to the storage absolutely nothing. Don’t pick up the phone but they are texting on their mobile device?? Unbelievable. Worst location.
