The truck that was rented had 170000 miles, no tread on the tires, the engine was not properly mounted and the whole truck received vibration including the driver and passengers In such conditions the truck should not have been rented for the local move - it generated hazardous conditions as a result A loaded truck in this condition could be a serious hazard on the road ThanksAlok G.
They customer service at the two locations i went to was terrible!! I ended up going to two uhauls. I made a reservation for a pickup truck, went to pick it up, and was told they did not have one. That's it. No solutions. When I told them that they should and reminded them I had a reservation, they asked if I would take a box truck, I said yes but I'm not paying the extra mileage. So they called to find me a pickup truck. Asked me if I wanted to drive to chandler or Tempe! I said I don't want to drive to either! They then said they had one in mesa. I asked them to cancel. Which was silly, I needed a truck. I called the location I was told had one, and they said they'd have one for me. The woman in the store was short and rude and a little insulting. The only polite person I had contact with at uhaual was the man inspecting the truck when I returned it.April H.

People were extremely rude. 2 Employees were in discussion about the recent Phoenix Suns/Milwaukee Bucs game, another employee was busy text messaging somebody (it was easy to see over his shoulder) and the woman behind the desk was very gruff. It took a little more than 10minutes for people to wrap up their busy-ness to finally get to serving me. When they did they were rude about it to. I will be happy to pay more money at Home Depot for the same trailer rental, just so I don't have to put up with the nonsense.Charles F.

The employee who checked us in was rude, dismissive and uncommunicative. She did not give us instructions where to find our truck to drive over to the auto transport. She walked out after we paid and signed, got into the golfcart and drove to the auto transport without saying anything to us about We drove our personal vehicle over thinking we were loading it on to the auto transport. She then treated as if we were idiots and gestured to the other side of the parking lot where 15 different trucks were parked. We do not remember her communicating that we should find the space number in the link, only that we used that to fulfill the check out requirement. We acknowledge that it was early and maybe we could have misunderstood/misheard things, but she was incredibly mean and patronizing. The reason people rent from Uhaul is because they do not transport large items often enough to warrant owning their own truck and trailer. I would hope store employees would understand that and be at least a little bit helpful. The transmission of the truck was either on its last legs or completely shot. I was scared throughout the drive but we kept saying â€œif U-Haul would rent us this truck knowing where we were driving to they would have to be sure that it would be able to make the driveâ€. We had to pull over to call road side assistance because we couldn't get above 35 miles per hour and were scared to ruin the engine, and be on a 70-75 mph freeway in the middle of nowhere. The woman who answered the phone was very kind and had us push the tow button, after that we were able to get to 55 mph, which was great to be at the speed limit. I tried to call the customer service number after we dropped the car off last night and was on hold for 30 minutes, i tried to call this afternoon and waited another 35 minutes. I tried again after work and was on hold for almost an hour. I hate sounding like a complaining Karen but it was such an awful experience which is why we dropped it off after hours without filling the gas. I really would like to talk to someone but it's hard to find the time to sit on hold for an uncertain amount of time.Sarah F.

This location charged me nearly $900 for what they claim was damage. i did not cause any damage anf would like to know how to take it to arbitration. My rent payment declined yesterday and the location was closed so I called the 800 number when i found the charge to dispute it. A man named Eric left me a voicemail while I was working saying " There was fresh flaking damage found the next day by a manager. Their new guy originally checked it in and must not have looked up. It was not rented by anybody else so the dispute is denied because the damage was fresh." I had never rented a uhaul on my own before July 2nd and did not know what it entailed nor do I know what condition that truck was in when I took it. I do know that while I was in the process of making the rental that one of the guys there teased the woman who did my paperwork about giving somebody the wrong truck number and that her reply to him was "You've made that mistake more times than me." To which he said "Probably so" then they laughed. I know that I was surprised that the charge was almost $75 and when I asked her why it was so much she told me it was because of the insurance so I trusted her. Upon return, their "new guy" told me that the extra almost $75 that I was being charged was because of the extra 12 miles I drove and the insurance. I told him that I had asked for the smallest truck I could get with a ramp assuming it was $19.99 per day but he explained that "Those ones aren't just $19.99. None of the ones that are $19.99 had ramps" then apologized and clarified that the mileage was also 99 cents per rather than the 79 cents I was quoted because it was the weekend. He really seemed to be very capable. When I asked if I needed to sign anything else he told me no, all was finalized, the receipt was sent to my email. That extra $75 was my fault for taking her word rather than making sure I understood exactly what I had and I'll own it but that was why I was more careful to find out exactly what my balance was when I dropped the vehicle off. I understand now that he was new but I had no idea at the time considering that he had seemed to be the most knowledgeable, detail oriented person to help me thus far. He represented your company and he made a commitment to me. I don't understand how Erick could feel like it is good business practice to just say "Well, he is new and made an almost $900 mistake so just kidding... nothing he or anybody else said matters, what actually matters is the condition it was found in the next day when the person who will be held responsible for any damage hasn't been around for somewhere between 18 to 26 hours." If he was wrong, it's a shame because he has a lot of potential but he needs coaching that location needs to work the rest out. If the damage was actually there when I dropped it off, I should have been given the opportunity to review the condition the vehicle was in when taking possession of it, just as I should now. It is very disappointing that every step this rental experience was negligent, especially the part that in the moment seemed to be the most redeeming. This entire situation feels completely fraudulent and the money that they took was supposed to pay my rent. If this company refuses to make it right then I will start with disputing this through my bank. If they refuse to help me then I will go to every consumer advocacy group I can find to fight this through starting with the BBB and Attorney General. If that doesn't work then I'll go to 5 on your side and every review website I can find while while working the arbitration process. I genuinely do not feel that I caused this damage and will go to every resource that will listen to fight it.Tabatha D.

The lady that checked us in (Meredith I think) was amazing. You should make sure to take good care of her. She was a breath of fresh air after a very long difficult trip. We had pre-arranged a storage unit upon arrival. The office that we worked with on the storage unit was awful. We got there and were told that yes, we did have a reservation for a storage unit but â€œwe are full, so good luckâ€. He flatly turned us away. He was very curt and unhelpful. That is totally unacceptable to make a long trip with a truck full of our possessions in a new and unfamiliar place and then be told â€œfigure it out. Goodbye.â€ Who does that? When you reserve something it ought to be something you can count on. We ended up at a Uhaul facility simply because my daughter â€œfigured it outâ€ by searching out a solution on our own. I had submitted a reservation for a 5 x 10 and when I went to get the unit on 6/29/2021, I was advised the unit was sold, leaving me with no unit. I had no choice but to take the 10x 20 at twice the cost. They never offered to reduce the price nor did off any other solutions. I was very disappointed that it was rented without my knowledge. Ensure proper check in of u-boxes. My u-boxes were lost for a couple days which was not a good experience for me. The pickup tried to pick up the boxes through the grass, causing damage to the grass and to a sprinkler. My bill shows a remaining balance which is incorrect, so I am hoping the charge/balance will drop, as one add'l month of storage was added to the bill since it appears an extra reservation was added due to improper check in of my boxes.Becky Z.

Your front desk customer service representative Margaret at the mckellips location off of mesa dr was awesome and so helpful but there was another male employee at the front desk talking about another coworker which I thought was so unprofessional and rude with us customers hearing it. Also your attendant's at the drop off area at the queen Creek location need training on their customer service and not be so rude and treat us like we're bothering them to bring back a u-haul vehicle and tell us to just leave and tell us everything is fine and they will just email us the receipt of return and then try and charge me a $43 and $15 and some change bill to my credit card and when I tried to call to find out why I couldn't get through on the phone to that location and was transferred to the U-Haul customer service line to be put on hold for over ten minutes and no one ever came on the line so I could ask what the charge for $43+ was for. I returned the vehicle before 1pm and Left the truck clean. So I need a call back ASAP about the charges.Martha G.

First I reserved a pick up truck and then I got to the location they said that I needed an "actual credit card" to get a pick up or van which was not disclosed during my initial reservation so I spent $20 more getting a 10 ft box truck which I didn't need. It would be nice if when you reserved additional equipment like dolly and furniture pads that they are in the truck or at least mentioned at time of rental. After I was finished with my paperwork they sent me out to the truck and then only when i checked the back, I had to drive back to the office and ask for the stuff and then the lady at the desk looked annoyed that she had to deal with it so luckily the manager gathered the stuff for us so we could be on our way.Michael M.

The woman who checked my trailer said I wasn't on the list to return my trailer but was able to accept it. She asked me to back my trailer in which I wasn't sure how to do and was very rude about it. Everything was cool until the day of the guy that was at the counter informed me that he wouldn't let me leave the lot with the car dolly that I had ordered, citing that it was too much of a liability for me to use the car dolly. This was after I had received an email explicitly explaining that I would need to disconnect my drive train & a day after I had received a phone call confirming my order. I even explained that to the gentleman & he still refused & upsold me the AT that was at another location. I understand the AT was a safer alternative. But that would of been nice to have that conversation prior to me being under pressure to pack the truck and get out of state. And the extra $300+ charge just felt like insult to injury.Marc G.

Not this location, but Uhaul in general needs to get rid of this "standby" reservation policy bullshit. Either it's a reservation or it's not, and adding more uncertainty and stress to customers in the middle of a move is extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. This is also disrespectful to your employees, who have to take the brunt of the fallout from your bad policy decisions. Whoever implemented and approved this policy of not guaranteeing reservations should be ashamed of themselves and needs to be demoted to an entry level scheduling employee so they can experience the customer dissatisfaction firsthand.Adam R.

I reserved at power and main - the morning of they changed it to country club and mckellips which was the complete opposite area I needed to be in and was charged quite a bit per mile still even though it was completely inconvenient. I was very upset with my rental experience overall. I had reserved a truck to pick up in Fountain Hills but the day before I was to pick it up U Haul called me to say it wasn't available in FH and that I would have to pick it up in Phoenix or Mesa. I was upset about that but what was worse was that when I picked it up in Mesa, I was told the price was $60 more than the price I was given when I reserved it. They said it was because I was picking up in Mesa. I NEVER WANTED TO PICK IT UP IN MESA. I RESERVED IT IN FH. SO NOT ONLY WAS I INCONVENIENCED TO HAVE TO GO TO MESA THEY CHARGED ME TWICE AS MUCH FOR THE INCONVENIENCE! And the man who helped me in Mesa was very unfriendly and never apologized for the inconvenience and broken promoses. He pretty much said I was lucky to get a truck at all. Terrible attitude.Janet L.

Everything was great aside from I had requested a furniture dolly and it wasn't inside. Just the moving pads/blankets. I had to go to Home Depot to purchase a dolly, which took extra time and mileage. I had even asked twice to make sure it would be in there and the guy on the phone reassured me it would be. When picking up a truck the time was asked when I would like to bring it back. The guy did not specify a specific time or what a full day would be. I was told if I needed it longer or would be ok because it's not a whole day??? I guess my complaint is be specific on when you need your trucks back. Hire more competent workers. Young people you are hiring , especially young women are incapable of doing a mans job apparently . I've noticed the decline in male employees to handle areas of trailer hookups. The offices are under staffed for number of people using your company. I had to drive more than 50 miles out of my way to even get a trailer. I'm dissatisfied and disappointed, I used to actually recommend the Riggs rd , Az Ave in Chandler . Not anymore !Bill M.

Excellent service. However, Uploading pictures of the outside of the truck and A picture of the less than full gas tank gauge was very difficult. After 10 minutes of watching the uploading circle go round and round and round with only one of four pictures uploaded I had to leave to make my appointment to load/unload my furniture. The facilities were clean. The staff however were rude anytime I spoke with them at my location. If I was 1 day late they locked me out and called my friends non stop almost to the point of harassment. When I called the facility the person that answered says hi I'm going to put you on hold. Well one thing I was upset about is I had a reservation for a 5 x 10 x8 climate control and got there and was told first come first serve. So I had no unit then was told they had a10x20 and it was outside now I would have to pay 163 a month not happy at all. All of my families stuff fill a corner of the unit. I would love a Unit inside and some kind of discount cause that's what I reserved and was told was waiting for me. We drove down here all the way from Maine to help my mother out cause she is ill. I've been a resident in the Scottsdale/Mesa area for 60 years and this is by far the cleanest, best maintained and well managed Uhaul's in the valley. Eric and his staff are terrific! I would highly recommend this particular storage facility to anyone looking for a safe, secure, clean and well maintained facility for your storage needs and I would definitely return to this Uhaul for any future storage or rental needs if necessary. The roll up door of the unit is so weathered it barely rolls up or down. when I got everything in Pensacola Florida smooth, but when I got to Arizona the drop off spot that's when it all went bad. I was not treated like a customer and I was even threatend by some U-Haul employee who was very rude and thought I was going to have to protect myself physically bc how this guy from U-Haul was very aggressive with me and I don't think a paying customer should be treated like that. Another employee on East main Street sent me on a wild goose chase with wrong addresses to U-Haul storage locations. Out of all the associates from U-Haul in Arizona there was one who knew all about customer service and his name was Anthony from your U-Haul on 219 E McKellips Rd. I've always held Uhaul in high esteem. It is my preferred choice for any moving services. I repeatedly had great experiences with this company. Not only have I been a customer numerous times, but I was also an Authorized Delear for Uhaul with at least 17 to 20 trucks at a location I moved away from.In my time running a Uhaul services, not under any condition have I treated any customer with the irreverence they gave me. I trained my employees how to speak to customers with dignity and respect, no matter the situation, the customer will always be treated the right way. They need help. Upon my arrival, I immediately did not feel welcomed. I did not feel the hospitality that I have always received from Uhaul's great customer service. The employees did not seem to care in the slightest. They have no regard for customers' concerns. I asked Margaret, one of the employees, if they had a lost and found because we were missing boxes with our belongings. She quickly responded with a "NO." I would not be complaining if she had only said no, but she further said, "ME PERSONALLY, IF I FOUND A BOX OUTSIDE, I WILL TOSS IT IN THE GARBAGE AND THEN WRITE A NOTE HERE." We then asked for the general manager hoping that he could be a little more helpful than Margaret. I asked the same question and he said "RIGHT HERE" and pointed beside him where there was nothing. I felt utterly disrespected. That is not how you handle customer service. They had an immense amount of attitude at this location and they don't seem to care about their customers and concerns. This wasn't the first time I had a terrible experience at this same location. They had the same inferior attitude and inattentive work ethic when I was checking in my equipment and getting a storage unit the first time I arrived. The general manager Eric didn't seem to care as well. I WILL DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION!!! The price I paid for a small unit was excessive. I was paying $69+ for a no climate control. Then it was raised several dollars more. That was the last straw I was paying $63 for a climate control and same size storage bay previously when I lived in Laveeen last year. Maggie provided information regarding location of our RV site, how to access (via access card) and hours of access to the storage facility. She let me know that for a small monthly fee, we could have access 24/7. I passed on that option as I cannot imagine a situation where we would need to park or access our RV after the standard access hours. We tried the card and it was noted that it may take a few hours until it was activated. I was provided with a temporary code so I could go to the site and have any questions addressed while I was still on the premises. I took a look and confirmed that there was a dump station as that was important to me. Maggie was kind, helpful and provided excellent customer service. Eric, your Agent Maggie was amazing. We had an uncontrollable event where the 20' truck we reserved was not returned to the location as scheduled. We were offered a 15' truck but weren't sure our stored belongings would fit. Maggie searched every local location for a truck for us and was able to secure a trailer (free of charge) to make up the difference in cu sq ft. She also added an extra day and mileage. The trailer was at another location and the dealer there flat out refused to give us the trailer unless we paid for it. In the end, made the 15' trailer work (hubby is great at Tetris). Maggie again came to our rescue the next day when my husband was checking out and closing the storage unit contract, which was in my name. She authorized the closure which we very much appreciated. Overall excellent very satisfied, however on the day of move out, there was an awful smell starting in the elevator which smelled like something had died. Placing mice traps can be a good thing but if one has been caught in a closed storage; how do you get them out if the person does not come for days to notice the catch. The only problem I had was when I called back to actually rent the unit and was on hold for 15 min only to be transferred to a customer service rep (someone named Juan) who told me I had to come in and sign a contract even though I had already spoken to someone who was ready to make the deal over the phone. There was only one employee who I want to work with from the entire staff and that is Miss Maggie. It seems that she is the only one there who knows how to talk to customers, has knowledgable information about UHAUL, and is professional to customers. Every other person (except for another woman) was unprofessional and it was confusing/difficult to work with them. When I went to close the storage unit facility out another male employee, Tyca I believe his name is, told me I was good to go but didn't go and check my unit at all. He seemed to be in a hurry as he was getting ready to finish his shift. At the time I had believed him until a week later when I received a late notice saying that I was fined for a late payment. I called UHAUL and talked to a woman on the phone who was able to fix the entire mess up but I was still annoyed that I had to go through that ordeal when I was told I had nothing else further to worry about from a different employee. Additionally, we had rented a 15 foot UHAUL, dolly, and car transport that same day so I had different moving pieces that made the entire day more complicated for us. After Miss Maggie had left for the day, I felt that my services were disorderly and I had to get in front of an employee if I wanted any help at all - otherwise I would be waiting a very long time until someone asked me if I needed help. Overall, I will rate this Mesa UHAUL as average because Maggie is a wonderful employee but the other men are unprofessional and don't seem to communicate well with each other or the customers. Furthermore, I'm very happy that when I called my problem was fixed. I wouldn't suggest this UHAUL to a friend though because of how many issues I encountered unless they strictly do their business with Maggie or another woman at the establishment.Azucena M. | Overall Experience

I started out at one uhaul facility on Apache Blvd and the 101 I rented there for about four months then the guy I was sharing space with started to hang out there a bit to much and started associating with some other people there and all them started to be in my unit as well so I thought the best thing to do was remove myself from the situation and at the same time my family member was talking to the president of the company and was letting him know what was going I thought I was all good and wanted to stay with uhaul so I rented another space at mckellips and Mesa Dr...it's called uhaul riverview....I even payed an extra ten dollars this month for the 24 HR drive in...well within one week they came and told me my 24 HR service was being takin away due to what was going on at the last unit I had and I had to have office hours to be able to get into my unit...no not gate hours as though that's what I thought office hours 7 am to 7 pm..I was really upset I started to cry cause I did nothing wrong buy move out and distance myself from the issue.i also asked if they was going to return my ten dollars for that service and they told me no they kept it..so I went through the rest of that month with those rules And when I went to pay on my unit I asked if my hours could be back to normal I was. Asking for gate hours at this time no 24 HR thing ...I was told they couldn't do it cause of the issue at the other unit at a totally different facility and I did nothing but move..I told Eric the manager there that I was going to move my thing then and give my money to someone who respected my money and time...I would never recommend uhaul to anyone I was treated as if I did something wrong and I even had to pay for it so if anyone would like to know go to right space storage they are cheaper the space is bigger and the employees there treat you with respect and kindness....Broadway and long more in Mesa check them out stay away from uhaul they only want your moneyvirginia m. | Overall Experience

We drove over there and all the paperwork directions were wrong so we had to figure that out to even find the unit. I rented a 20 ft truck for a cross country move. The big deciding factor for me was the free month of storage. When I got to my destination I was told I would only get a unit of up to 10x10, if they had one available. Otherwise they could only give me a 5x10 unit. As you know the contents of a full 20 ft truck will not fit in a 5x10 unit. After much discussion the storage manager Maggie decided, out of the goodness of her heart to give me two 5x10 units but only if she had them side by side, which luckily she did. Going to another location would have been costly since I had to return the truck to that location to get the free month since I had already dropped the car trailer off there the day before. It was only with a lot of work and adjusting to get my belongings to fit. I only needed the unit a week, as I had anticipated. Checking out was better since Maggie wasn't there. She was borderline rude, condescending to customers and other staff, and made me feel like she was doing me huge favors. I later learned she was wrong. A family member who moved the week before, and rerurned to another location got a 10x15 unit, same size truck, same origination point, one week earlier. I will not return to that location and will tell anyone who asks not to use that location either. I rented a trailer to move my belongings out, from another location, and they were 180 degrees better. I wish I had gone there for my storage but they were full.Susan A. | Overall Experience
