The location was not conducive with my home residence. The rental of Uhaul equipment should be one of minimal difficulty. The experience should be one of relative calm. I received no prior notification that the original place of pickup was going to be changed. The drive was an hour out of my way and the person who processed my reservation was rude. Her manager was very accommodating and seemed to empathize with my circumstances. However, the who originally processed my reservation just seemed to want to get rid of me. The Truck Share 24/7 didn't work for me. My web account didn't have any kind of link for it that I could see and while the app did show the reservation, when I clicked on it I just got a blank white page that never filled (on an iPhone with iOS 15.4.1). I have no issue with your facilities. My issue is with your Roadside Assistance and your smart phone app. I got to the drop-off site after the store had closed, around 8:00 PM. I went through the drop-off instructions and was doing fine until I tried to un-hitch the trailer. I could not make it happen. I tried a few times without success and even asked a couple of others who were returning equipment if they could help me. They couldn't disconnect the trailer either. I called the number listed with the facility and they connected me with Roadside Assistance in which the on-hold message said I had a 20-minute wait time and I could go to UHAUL.COM/HELP to get "immediate" response. So, while I stayed on-hold I went on-line with a separate device and tried to submit a request for some type of help to help me disconnect this trailer. Long story shorter, I was setting in the return equipment lane for over 2-hours, still on-hold, and no on-line request that could be made. So, I took matters into my own hands and "unconventionally disconnected" the trailer so I could finally make my way home that was 2.5 hours away. I should have done it my way earlier, but I was trying to play by the rules and it didn't work, just like your Roadside Assistance and smartphone app. Fortunately, I don't need U-HAUL services very often, but I'll never deal with your company again. You have proven that when someone needs help...you really do not care!Dawsey M.

I was trying to rent a van and a 15 foot truck was assigned and the wrong parking spot kept being told to me. Customer Service took more than 45 minutes to answer the phone and they called me to verify my information and transferred me. I called while on hold to get a call back and that call back called me with waiting music and hung up. It was a terrible night. Trucks in space L are far behind the other trucks. Let customers know that before they go out to pick up the truck the first time. I didn't know that and thought the truck wasn't there. I was wrong. It would have helped to know that it was far behind the other trucks.Daniel G.

I ended up at this location because I signed in online to pay for my truck at another location, which they gave away. You should not give away trucks before calling the individual. You manage to call and say it was given away. Also you should tell people that you are at risk of giving away your truck if you do not modify the time and allow them to do so online since the phone lines are a long wait.Dave L.

The associate who checked me in and who I returned the vehicle to was rude on both sides of the experience. Her customer service and attitude are terrible. For some reason she thinks she is at home and not at work. She spoke to me as if I was a friend she had a problem with as apposed to a Custer paying for a service. She should be retrained or fired. The day before my scheduled pick-up I received a new pick-up location that was an additional 1/2 hour away. The day I arrived to pick up the truck I was told the truck from the previous renter never arrived as scheduled the previous afternoon. After talking with U-Haul the closest truck was an hour away. I had no choice but to accept this. U-Haul did knock off $100 but it still didn't fully cover the Uber fees I incurred and time wasted. I realize U-Haul can't control people not returning equipment on time but they certainly could have made contact with myself as the next renter in line when the truck I was supposed to have didn't make it back the day before. The situation could have been handled better with some communication from U-Haul.Rodney J.

The wait time to get equipment which has been rented on line is absurd, and the time it takes to process an order already entirely processed on line is ridiculous - however, this is not specific to this location, this is a UHaul wide problem, and hence a symptom of very poor high level management and as poor HR management. The cargo van rented was picked up at 9am on Saturday 3/26 and was due back by 8am Sunday, 3/27. The van was returned at 12:30am on 3/27, long before the due time of 8:00am. When I returned it I was unsure exactly where to park as it wasn't clear as far as signs or instructions. I chose to park it in the lot where a sign said â€œPark Trucks Hereâ€ which was to the left of the store itself. I then used the link on my phone to follow return instructions. I could not link my phone to the location even after following instructions I located on my phone itself. The person with me was far more tech savvy than myself and she also was unable to. The 1-800-GO-UHAUL was called to guide us through the process but was told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I have on my phone the time I called which was 12:30am. I made the decision at that point to leave the van, drop the key in the return box and leave. I had three people with me anxious to return home. My plan was to call this morning to verify the van was received and to make aware the time the van was actually returned. After a hard day and late night I was not up at the time you opened but called at 1:25 pm to insure they had located the van and be aware of the actual return time of 12:30am. I was told the van had not been processed yet but once done I'd receive the final bill amount and it was ok that I was unable to finish my return process through my phone. My bill shows a return time of 1:48pm which I'm certain was when it was finally processed and my bill shows an additional $19.95 daily rental, $14.00 utility dolly rental, a $20 after hours service fee which I've detailed the specifics above, as well as an additional day of insurance for $25 plus any applicable taxes which is totally erroneous. I respectfully ask these charge be removed from my bill to reflect the correct amount. So first off, the storage facility was not the size advertised. The advertised size was 10x13x7. It was not 7 feet in height, it was more like 6 feet. This factored into my ability to store things and I wasn't able to store everything I had. This needs to be corrected on the website and reflected accurately otherwise I will report this facility and U-Haul to the BBB. Secondly, when I went to pick up my goods from the storage facility I found the process somewhat unwieldly. First, trying to park my 20 foot u-haul trailer in an area that wasn't blocking anyone and wasn't too far from the door was difficult as the pick up area was being used for truck storage and parking. Why were there so many trucks blocking the pick up entrance? People should be easily able to park and use that area to pick up their stuff. Also, the fact that the exit was routinely blocked by people returning trucks was annoying. Also, why were your employees using parking spaces for customers to access and pick up their goods from the storage facility. They shouldn't use these spots. Employees should park elsewhere. I rented specific sized unit because it was listed as 7 feet high. When I was shown the unit I reserved online, I mentioned to the representative showing the unit that it was not 7 feet high. The representative asked "Did you measure it?" That was a rude and condescending statement since he knew full well I had not pulled out a tape measure in the 30 seconds it took to walk into the unit and see how low the ceiling was. I'm not even 5 feet 5 inches tall and the ceiling was just above my head. I did not need a measuring tape to know that the unit was NOT 7 feet high, as listed. I again protested that the unit was shorter than listed. He said I would have to talk to the manager if I had a problem. Instead, I found a storage unit with another company that was the size listed and cheaper than the units offered by UHaul. The units are extremely small for the amount of money being charged. Door and lock constantly jamming and hard to open and close. Pinched skin and fingers several times. Marcus lost our reservation. He booked it over the phone and then failed to finish entering it on his end after the phone call. There was no record of the reservation when we got there (with movers waiting on us), but luckily they had a unit available of the same size. It still took us close to an hour from when we first arrived to when we could begin unloading the truck since we had to fill out a new contract, which messed up due to the credit card reader and we had to fill out all the information twice. There were lots of people waiting in line and many complaints that we heard from other customers about their storage units or truck rentals (we also had a terrible truck rental experience with uhaul - they kept changing and cancelling our truck in the few days prior to the move). Overall, I would never use uhaul again for truck rentals or storage unit. However, the person who checked us out for the storage unit was kind, so I don't blame him.Elizabeth B. | First Impressions
The truck was stolen. And it sat at towing storage for a couple weeks after finding out who stole it. I called several times to get information about where truck was at and everything. They were was supposed to call me back several times and never did. Then take truck back to there facility somewhere in Hyattsville Maryland with all of granddaughter belongings and expect us to go get it. Without them even calling and letting us know they were getting it when it was close to home in the first place. The customer service at the Hyattsville location was extremely disgusting. Their attitudes were unwelcoming and rude. They failed to provide outstanding service throughout the entire process. They were not solution focused, nor were they proficient with assisting in the process of trying to obtain a storage unit. The representatives explained that their system was inoperable. After learning that specific information, they continued to fail with providing the best solution moving forward. I will never recommend this facility to anyone. My storage unit required walking up stairs to access, thus I couldn't simply "cart" items to/from the unit. This is a huge design flaw in my opinion. Furthermore, dirt and debris from God knows what tended to coat my items. The personnel at the U-Haul storage location on Chillum Road in Hyattsville, Maryland were pleasant and answered all of my questions. I was disappointed however, that it was not explained to me in advance that in order to get one month free or discounted on my storage unit that a truck would have to be reserved and brought to the Hyattsville location from another U-Haul location. That was not disclosed early on. Therefore, I reserved a truck online from the Hyattsville location planning to drop it off at the same location. Then the same day I came to sign my contract, I was told the truck would've had to come from another location and be dropped off to receive the promotion. Additionally, when I was first given the U-Haul storage access card, I was not shown how to use it and I was not told that I needed a specific lock for the storage unit. While the cashiers/customer representatives were nice, some key information was omitted and I had to keep going back to get the right information or for someone to show me how to do something.Yasmine A. | First Impressions

There was some confusion with what I was told over the phone and when I got to the actual store. I was told that due to COVID-19 U-Haul was given all customers one month free storage, however when I got to the store on Chillum Rd that was not the case. The salesperson was kind and gave it to me anyway but said that the individuals from the call center work at different locations and that each store runs their own specials. I called the call center a second time about 24-hour storage and I was told that no U-Haul locations offer 24-hour service, but I was told differently at the location where I purchased. Of course the salesperson at the store was right about U-Haul offering 24-hour storage access. The individuals at the call center are very misinformed and should know what's offered at ever location or should connect you to the store with the correct information.STARLESHA W. | First Impressions

The storage unit had no light, all it came with was a box of rat poison. There was clear evidence of previous water leaks on the walls from the pipes that were exposed in the unit. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because my stuff was thankfully not damaged. As and aside - I was charged a late payment fee of $42 on what was sent to me as a $0 bill. The unit I reserved was not the same size as the one I received. I was supposed to have a 10x13x7 unit. The unit I got was small, square, and was nowhere near 7 feet tall. When I asked in the office, I was told the size was correct and the staff member walked away from me.
