The Danvers location/staff were exceptional We unfortunately were told the day before our reservation that we had to go to the Salem, Ma location to pick up our truck- although coming from NH it was out of the way but doable. We get there it was complete chaos. No place to park and we were told that they didn't even have the truck we were supposed to pick up. We proceeded to park across the street in the restaurant lot to go in the store to speak to someone regarding our reservation. We did not have masks (we were supposed to do everything by mobile phone). The person working in the store was so rude and told us if we don't have a mask â€œto get outâ€ he didn't even offer to speak with us outside. We wasted ONE HOUR of our time and we were treated and spoken to rudely and told to leave??!!! We drove all the way down from New Hampshire which was over an hour ride!! This is completely unacceptable. Again, coming from another state we do not know the individual city mandates for Massachusetts plus we were supposed to check in with â€œno contactâ€ through my mobile phone AND we could have spoken to this individual outside. We ended up getting a smaller truck at the Danvers location -the staff there was very accommodating and nice.MICHAEL L.

The location is on Rt.1 which is tricky due to a divided highway. Also, it is immediately after an exit and difficult to see the tiny signs. Other than that, it is an excellent UHaul place and I will go there whenever I need UHaul.KARIN C.

We were encouraged by uhaul to use their online check-in process to "save time from going to the counter." This process was AWFUL! The website kept crashing; the picture of the vehicle was incorrect to what we had actually reserved; the directions to the key holder weren't clear at all so we were left wandering the lot. When we finally did find it the lock code provided didn't work so we ended up having to go inside anyways. Once inside we waited for 15mins in line all to find out that the wrong vehicle was on the registration - we reserved a cargo van, the photo on the app was for a 10' box truck, and the truck on the reservation itself was a 15'moving truck! Thankfully the gentleman was able to get us into a van but not until after calling us trouble makers and complaining about us causing such problems... are you kiiiiiiiidding me?!?!? Then he sent us in our way without a contract, saying he'd swap the vehicles in the computer later. This was the absolute worst rental experience I've ever had and I've rented many many MANY times.Jennifer S.

I didnt recieve a reciept when money was deducted from my accounts, i owed 340$ that was from 4 diffrent charges and i didnt recieve a notice when it was about to be deducted and when it finally was deducted, there were pending charges but no reciept once deducted for people like me who are illiterate to banking descriptions like the words balance and pending we need a clearer idea of when money will be deductedMark M.

Ramp was broken. I told them when returned and they said they knew and forgot to tell me ! Damage to a table due to this issue. I have rented many trucks in the past from this location and had a storage unit for several years. I will not recommend this location again.Susan H.
Please inspect the tires my situation could have been much worse as the damaged tire could have burst. The staff did a great job with replacing the vehicle but they also asked me to drive it back. Imagine if the vehicle crashed on the way back because the tires was faulty. Could have cost your company millions.BRADFORD G.

Very hard to find. Signage poor. Went past it on Route 1, even with GPS. Had to go up to next exit and take circuitous route back. Same thing when I was returning rented van. Entrance actually dangerous. Terrible parking area for returns.ADELE F.

Could not connect to wifi--- another customer helped me as I wanted 8 am pick up and office opened at 9. When I finally got through the process at 8:50 am, i was told to pick up the key in lock box number 3. There was only lock box number 1 and 2 , there was no number 3. An employee showed up then and said she had been advised that I was assigned the wrong lock box and had the van key in her hand. Very stressful and I wasted my first hour with the van due to the difficult phone check in procedure and the lock box error, so even if I had been able to check in easily the key was not available.Susan R.

fine except one big problem, well I was attempting to get the truck online I got the message that the GPS said I was not at the location. I was at the location and after waiting on hold for 45 minutes the woman I spoke with told me how to go into the settings and change location settings. I understand that certain sizes of trailers may only be available at certain locations depending upon overall availability. So pick up is what it is, I'm OK with that. Drop off is another matter however. My local U Haul dealer is two blocks away and it would have been much more convenient for me to do drop off there, instead I had a 30 minute to and from drive to the original pick up location. I asked about that inconvenience and they simply said I would be charged an additional $300. to drop it off at another U Haul location. That part of the experience was not customer friendly at all. I would suggest you work on that issue. FYI - my local UHaul dealer did not have any 6 x 12 enclosed trailers and would have loved to have my return.DONALD J.
You need more workers! Its very frustrating to be either the person calling in on the phone on hold or the person standing at the desk waiting for service when there is only one person working. When this covid thing is over, I will definitely only be doing business with places that answer their phones, return messages and really provide good customer service. The gas measuring on the sheet does not match the gas measure on the truck. I added 4 gallons on return and was still charged for 3 gallonsJOSE F.
The truck was clean but the transmission was super funky, I was worried that I might get stranded on the highway at night so rather than return the equipment that evening, I drove it home so if I did break down, the next morning at least it wouldnt be ok n a darkened highway. The fuel economy gauge kept bobbing into the red randomly and the engine seemed to race randomly as if it was in neutral and I was pressing the accelerator. I ended up going 25 miles out of my way because I was not confident about driving this truck at night. I've rent from UScott A.

Beth was SUPER helpful and knowledgeable about the rental.. she helped me with various questions about my trip, including toll management and vehicle controls. I was impressed that the van was clean and it was new. It was comfortable to drive and I felt safe for my long trip...The tire guage light was on at time of rental which was noted with management as being an issue with new tire replacement. It remained on throughthe trip. The ride was shakey at times and the shifting seemed off at acceleration, but I'm used to a Honda engine, so maybe it's a Ford thing. Also, the tag on the window about oil change was VERY far behind in maintenance. It may have been done and not have been updated but I rented the van in July and the oil change was tagged for April. This concerned me for my long trip, especially on return. However, no warning lights appeared and I made it home safely. For that I am grateful! I recommend changing the oil before renting again. I would definitely rent this type of van again if needed but will very likely hire movers because, frankly, I'm too old for this s%$t! :)SHERYL M.

We were never told what we would need our online login and password in order to complete the after hours checkout upon completion of our rental. As a result, we spent far too much time figuring out how to do that, and at a time when we were exhausted from the move. Picking up the trailer went fine. The employee who helped hooked it up was very professional and the equipment was in good working order. Returning the trailer the employee seemed like he was in a rush and didn't communicate very well where he wanted the trailer parked. The associates were very friendly and helpful and it was easy to get in and out of the storage unit itself (once I got there). My one complaint is that traffic flow is difficult around the facility. I'm not sure how to resolve that. We didn't have too much of a problem but I imagine during your busy times if there are a lot of people there, parking and access might be difficult. Also, the entrance is sort of hidden and easy to miss, and I was very glad to see you put a lighted sign at the entrance from route 1--that will help with visibility. The associates behind the counter were all very cheerful and helpful and this makes up for any physical difficulties of the place! Thank you very much!!James G. | Overall Experience

During a stressful time of getting our entire top floor hardwood floors refinished, Beth was so very helping in setting up a plan for us and saved us over $350.00. By renting a 15' truck and using the free storage, it made the hold experience simple and stress free. The trucks were clean, the storage area was bright and brand new looking. After renting here for 12 months, I spent a whole day moving to a less conveniently-located facility because this U-Haul location is so bad. I have: (1) been locked out of my unit (not billing related), (2) been trapped in the facility, (3) had papers in my "air conditioned" unit ruined due to humidity, and (4) measured the indoor temperature last week at 29 degrees Fahrenheit. All the while, I experienced totally inept customer service. 1) Over the course of two weeks, I visited my unit after hours twice and was unable to use my card to get in. After going out of my way to visit during office hours, I was told, "Oh yeah the card readers don't work on building D… we will get you PIN access." U-Haul management should have notified customers rather than leaving it to us to figure out that the card reader wasn't working. 2) On December 11th at 5pm I entered the facility, which has one entrance and one exit off the highway, only to find construction trucks blocking the exit. After notifying the construction crew to my presence, I was still unable to access my unit or even leave the facility for 20 minutes. This could have easily been prevented by management coordinating to move U-Haul trucks that eliminated means of navigating around the construction trucks. 3/4) Don't expect the indoor "air-conditioned" units to amount to anything. For over a month this summer, A/C was malfunctioning in building D such that the floor had pools of water from condensation on pipes… the resulting humidity was enough to destroy any exposed papers items in storage. This winter, I measured the building's inside temperature to be below freezing. I understand that things break, but at least notify your customers! When I was dealing with the broken card readers on July 17, 2020, one of the employees was not wearing a mask. He was talking to two customers (both wearing masks) at a short distance. Regardless how you feel about masks, his attitude was objectively disrespectful towards those customers. This total lack of care is made apparent by every single U-Haul employee at this location by their inability to provide reasonably reliable unit access and/or notification of the facility's state of disrepair.Tyler F. | Overall Experience
