This is the second time I've rented a U-Haul in as many months to move from state to state and each time when I arrange a pick up online at a specific location, I get to the location requested and I'm told that the equipment I rented is â€œnot at this location. I don't know why the site lets you request it here.â€ Seemingly, as U-Haul operates equipment with internal combustion engines and wheels, it would be assumed that the vehicles can be moved to the locations of initial request, or if they can't due to staffing or what have you, the LEAST that could be done would be to update the site to reflect what equipment is available to the customer. I rented a pick up truck this time around and when I showed up, I saw there was one parked out back. The front desk person didn't even offer to help or any sort of solution, he just told me to go elsewhere and wiped his hands of the situation. When I got to the second location, more than 10 miles away from the initially requested location, I arrived at my requested time of pick up at 2:30 pm and the front desk attendant said â€œlucky youâ€ when I said I was there picking up the truck. In addition to that, instead of having the truck cleaned before I arrived, they decided to clean it after I arrived, cutting into my bought time. I showed up and both people behind the front desk were sitting down, why weren't they cleaning the truck before I arrived to have it ready when I showed up? There was no one else at that location waiting to be helped. It was a ghost town. When I returned, no one was outside to greet me with the truck so I went inside and the front desk attendant just said â€œyou have to go outside to return itâ€ and burped loudly as I walked away as he radioed someone to come meet me. Overall a really excellent experience. Definitely a well run operation that any business can be proud of. As a customer you get a feel that once your money is spent, they really don't give a shit. The only reason I use this service is because it's cheapest and you get what you pay for from start to finish.Sean S.
Trailer had a vibration between 45-55, and intermittently I got a RR stop/turn lamp out signal message. Only duplicated it once visually. Looks like a bad connection. I reported both to the staff. Otherwise the trailer did the job I rented it for. I think I got my $ worth.Kristen M.

Brandon took time to make sure I had the properly sized vehicle for a pickup today. I was very happy with the van and the smooth, quiet ride. I was driving to a sketchy neighborhood and Brandon gave me his card with the assurance that he would be available should anything go awry, which it didn't. This is my 3rd vehicle rental from Brandon's store and I'll be back to rent from his store again.Karen J.

The windshield wipers sucked. We had to drive from Ann Arbor, MI to Columbus, OH after it snowed in 15 F weather. We had to stop very often to clean off the windshield so we could see where we were driving. Very unsafe. Maintenance of this truck was not maintained.Christopher H.

The price I was quoted after returning the van I rented was substantially less than what was charged to my credit card. At the time of check-out, I said 'yes' when asked if I would like an itemized statement emailed to me. I never received the email. When I called to discus the charge to my credit card, the agent couldn't find my reservation. The agent offered to call me back with the relevant information, but this never happened either. The night time return barcode scan did not work on the site. Very frustrating. My phone could scan the barcode using a standard barcode reader (so the code was fine) but the online app could not. Extremely unprofessional staff who told me he only cares about his children and could care less about me as a customer. If I wrote down all of the disgusting comments he told me, I'd be typing for hours. Horrible, disgusting storage facility and when I'd tell people, who had storages elsewhere, about the price and the service, and the comments I was told, they'd laugh in shock and talk about how their storage facility manager/owner treated them like a friend with respect. The inside of my car had a very heavy gasoline smell and a scratch on the back bumper after the installation of my hitch. I called the U-haul location's phone number twice and was connected to a central U-haul number. I provided the representative with my complaint during each call and was told that I would be contacted by the manager to resolve my concerns. They gave me a very good deal. I booked a truck with Budget two weeks in advance. When I went to get that, they said they do not have trucks. I went to two more Budget locations, and they refused to give me a truck since I did not book with those locations. Then I came to this U-Haul location at 6pm, and they gave me a truck at a very good price. It was a long-distance move and they gave me enough free miles so that I can bring the truck back to the same location and still classified it as long-distance.DHAMMIKA SARATH W.

An employee gave our vehicle to someone else just before we arrived. They were trying to not update our truck number and give us a new truck instead without changing truck ID number, which would've left us uninsured on the new truck, insuring another driver that we do not know. We paid for both safemove and safe ride. We had to wait 30 minutes to get it resolved and push to get the correct truck ID number in our name. I usually love U-haul self check in and it's very organized, but there was a lot of carelessness and disorganization at this location.Nathaniel W.

There was a bald/flat spot on one of the tires on the tow dolly I rented. It created a bad vibration and rattling while empty. I didn't notice the cause of the vibration until I was a couple hundred miles away. Once I loaded the vehicle on the dolly it was ok. Luckily the tire made the entire trip without giving any problems.Rick W.
The cost. I used a 26 footer for less than 12 hrs and paid $ 199 dollars thats very high. Rachel was very nice and easy to talk to. The truck I used the front-end pulled to the right not a little a lot.Pride D.

The last time that I rented a U-Haul was in 2018, I don't know who has changed since then but I can tell that the shop is run much more professionally, it is much cleaner, and the people that I interacted with were pleasant, knowledgeable, quick to do their job, friendly, And I would not hesitate for a second to recommend this particular U-Haul location to anyone who needed to rent or store. In the past I've picked this location because it was the closest to my house, in the future I will choose this location because it is the best choice, period. U-Haul as a company should be happy that her location like this exist to represent them in such a professional manner.David O.

There was a tire that I questioned upon pick up of the trailer of which the manager stated that it had good tread and should be OK. A friend that was helping me load my car onto the trailer felt that a belt in the tire had broke and would be risky to use. The pick up location put a new tire/wheel on the trailer quickly upon calling the manager and was very nice about it, however the incident cost me an hour late in the afternoon that I wanted to be travelling. I'd recommend that a better inspection be made next time. There were three fairly new tires on this trailer, but the tire with the issue was clearly different and older looking than the others.Steven K.

Hitch installation is okay but some trim parts in the trunk were not reinstalled correctly. The manager tried to charge me an additional $56 for installation since it took longer to install than estimated because "it's a Cadillac". I don't trust taking it back to fix the trim piece after that so I will try to fix it myself.Aaron C.

Communication is absolutely terrible. They don't acknowledge their appointment windows. Work for my 10:00 am appt didn't start until around 2:00 pm. Customers wait forever, frustrated and angry. At times, no one is in the store and there is a line of customers. Some customers escalated to the manager. He's a manipulative prick. Actually yelled at a guy just for complaining about the poor service. I would never ever go there again. Place should be shut down!! Seriously! Cannot believe this place is associated with UHAUL. Used to have more respect for that brand. Not any more. Only good news is that they installed the hitch correctly and without damage to my vehicle. Thank god for that.chris D.
I would recommend the people there, and I would recommend them for trailer hitch installation. 10/10. HOWEVER, you should have some chair and most of all, you should not offer to install bike racks because they were installed incorrectly in multiple ways, and I had to reassemble it myself when I discovered it was unusable... Storage was great and what I paid for. I was disappointed about the price hike toward the end of my lease but like everything else I expected it. Only issue was trying to contact the office to end my storage lease. I submitted an online form and tried contacting the office for two weeks before I just went in person to ensure it was closed. Our unit was not available and Veronica jumped on getting us room for our stuff at 4:20 on a Sunday! Aaron was helpful as well. Gary went the extra mile and took us personally back to the units. We were on a very tight schedule and we got unloaded (had to go with indoor units, plural) in a very short time and on our way. Customer service at its best. We paid for 24- hour access, but then were unable to access at 10:30 at night. After hours phone number went unanswered. Phone call to customer service didn't show any issues with our account and left it to us to resolve. I make this comment with the understanding that it is difficult for employers to find help right now. The location was understaffed which led to very long wait times to check-in and to get on the road. The staff available were extremely polite and as helpful as possible. U-Haul's mobile check-in does not work. This is not a complaint about the location. They do not control the app. This is on corporate. One of my worst experiences at U-haul. Was given a storage unit only to find it already had a lock on it... and then this happened a second time... and each time took way too long to figure out. The staff were overwhelmed and poorly managed by the manager on site. What should have been a 30 min MAX experience turned into 1.5hrs of my time. My original reservation wasn't available, and the office was unable to honor the original price of my storage unit - I was forced to pay nearly twice what my original rate was. I'm likely to call the customer service hotline to see if something can be done, e.g., a free month, a lower monthly rate, etc. I made the reservation more than two months before it started - you should change your system so that it doesn't allow new reservations if it's unlikely there will be space available on the start date.William J. | First Impressions

When I arrived my unit had a zip-tie on it and no lock inside, which was the only thing I needed to actually get started. I had to go in the office and ask for one, which makes the online no-contact reservation idea pointless. I was able to figure it out, but the system of arming and disarming alarms at one panel, and opening the building doors at a different panel, was very confusing. I heard one alarm go off while I was moving in, and I'm sure that happens all the time. The unit numbering is also very confusing, and it took me a while to find the correct building (I'm in the 1600s). Going from the 1400s to the 2000s, and having the 1600s out front, makes no sense. Finally, the stairs to the upstairs units have a lip on them that makes it much harder to pull a dolly up them.Daniel S. | Online Move In

Charged credit card when first free month was free. No one answers the phone after 20 minute hold. Tried again, hold for 25 minutes then routed to corporate answering service. They claim some random reason why the Uhaul website was wrong for the free month. They got through to the office in minutes. I was promised a reversal of charges. The original charge to card was not canceled. It went through. Received email of credit, but it hasn't hit my credit card. This free month seems like such a sham. Dear Austin Brown, I've had half a dozen excellent experiences w State St. Uhaul renting vehicles/trailers over the years (at least one of them directly with you), so when I needed storage space, it was a no-brainer, but I was sadly disappointed in the service I got. I reserved a 10x15 space online, and went to get access to it the following week (Tue Aug 4), Michael Fender was rude and exasperated to start, and let me know that the website's listed hours of access were wrong, requiring me to pay $10/mo more; and though it's not listed anywhere on the website, I had to provide or buy a discus-style lock. So far, not great, but workable. Then, my access card didn't work, and when I went back to the front to get it re-programmed, exasperation and rudeness increased. Then, when I finally got to the unit, there was a lock on it. After visually confirming, we went back to the front desk, and Michael searched for another 10x15 unit, but there were only 10x10 (too small for my needs) and 10x20 (too expensive for my budget). He was willing to waive the 24-hour access fee, and give me the lock for free, but I was only going to keep 24-hour access for a month anyway, so that didn't nearly make me whole for the difference of the price of the 10x15 and the 10x20. His only solution at that point was to direct me to the next available 10x15 unit *in Westland* which didn't work for that day (i needed to be somewhere *with my vehicle emptied* in 20 minutes), nor did it work for me in the long-run, being 25 minutes each way too far from my home base. I was understandably frustrated and rather than listen to my frustration, and acknowledge that, he sharply told me that he would not adjust the price to fit my needs, nor could the manager. As someone who manages people myself, and has had to deal with corporate bureaucracy, *I* would want the opportunity to address a repeat-customer's frustration myself, rather than risk losing their referrals and business forever, having been dismissed rudely by a front line worker. There could have been at least one more person working in the office. There was a line of 7 people and one worker, who do to policies such as requiring a visual check when someone vacates their unit, meant this worker had to walk all over the property as he was helping customers. The 1-800 needs to give better directions on costs. I experienced additional fees for the truck and storage. Also they had me pick up the truck in Ypsilanti and provided storage in Ann Arbor. I could have picked the truck in Ann Arbor where the storage was.sue m. | First Impressions
