While I was picking up the truck my husband broke his ankle. I traveled less than 2 miles away then brought the truck back immediately since we would no longer be able to move and they still charged me full price. Very disappointed.KENDRA J.

Super quick and easy transaction. Improve by making it more clear what payment is due when. I paid something for it ahead of time and it said $100 due at time of pick up but we were never asked for money. Then we got an additional bill after the truck was returned for gas and mileage over. We stated the exact addresses of pick up, the 2 houses and drop off and it should have been correct in the original quote. Otherwise we are extremely happy with uhaul and continue to use your trucks every time we move.Ryan S.

The lady who assisted me was irresponsible and unwelcoming. She did not even try to answer a many basic questions about Uhaul rentals. there were no other customers waiting in line, she had enough time to answer me but she never tried. She was impatient too. When I asked for a truck, she took a key to hand over to me. But when she realized that my rental request was one way and for interstate move, she put that key back to the shelf and offered me a different truck. The truck she offered to me did not ride smooth. Impossible to get anyone to answer the phone to make a reservation.I spent over 40 minutes on hold and no one picked up. I wanted to just reserve hand trucks and there is no way to reserve hand trucks without also reserving a truck first. So the location was clean, pleasant and organized, but the corporate reservation system and website would make me Sell uhaul stock if I owned any.Wesley M.

When I made the reservation was not given any answers to my questions but was told someone would contact me to guide me through the process. That never happened. I was never able to reach anyone who had answers to my questions. They didn't come pick up my pod on the date reserved and were unapologetic. Nobody was able to answer any questions or address my concerns. I cancelled the pick up because they weren't able to get it on the date I needed and then they came and picked it up anyway! By having a unit(s) for a period of time, I NEVER get discounts on rentals. I used to have a large (about a year) AND a small unit (3 plus years). I must have rented 15-26' trucks and 12 foot trailers. Should be a point system or something that if you rent storage for so long you can apply the points to rentals, Most likely do not have any affinity in the future for U-Haul. This is not a comment on this location. Originally selected Uhaul on Atlas Ave for preferred pick up. Got the confirmation call the day before to pick up on Allen Blvd in Middleton the next day. Get to Allen blvd location and they aren't even a Uhaul location. I called the Regional number. They say they just found out from the area manager that our truck want available. But they did have a truck at this pick up location. Spent an hour driving around Madison to get our truck was frustrating.Mathew L.

The U-Haul website is horrible, and everything you guys try to do is to take money from people. You add small charges to everything, incorrectly record gas gauges so you can make more, and much more. The first person we talked to was not very friendly and we weren't sure if we could rent a van or not for a few hours. Then we saw he got a key and we thought we were going to get a van. We did and were very happy. When we returned the van, Ozzy checked us in. He was very nice and friendly.Heidi P.
Said to close at 5pm, we rushed, got there at 4:33, where I was told they were closed, which totally pissed off the 4 people who pulled in behind me for the same reason - to get checked in before 5. Then I get charged for extra miles - again, note that I had to pick up the truck 115 miles from where we loaded out north of Superior. I should not be paying for extra miles for this. Truck ran well. U-Haul is a complete joke. 2 weeks before my move in date, I made a reservation online and received a reservation number. When I arrived at the facility I was told the unit I reserved was not available and my reservation was not really a reservation and everything is first come first serve, but what do you know they have a more expensive unit available that is smaller then what i reserved, nice way to bait and switch and to upsell. I had movers meeting me there in 30 minutes, so i had no choice. Completely unethical way to upsell people. Avoid at all costs. The word games the friendly customer service person made were worthy of a skit on Saturday Night Live.Bartley W. | First Impressions
The only tiny thing that I spent a few minutes obsessing over, was that the truck's gas tank was specifically stated to be at the 15/16 mark, and was supposed to be brought back at that level. When I climbed in and started driving, I noticed that it was actually at the 7/8 mark -- maybe a hair over, but nowhere near 15/16. I mean, 7/8 really *is* pretty close to 15/16, but not so close that there's any kind of judgment call about the difference. I considered driving back around the parking lot and getting this corrected, but it was way too much trouble! So I just made sure the tank was at 15/16ths when I brought it back... This is not really a complaint, since I freely chose not to deal with the problem. I guess the only thing that might have been done would be for the UHaul employee to remind me to check the gas level and make sure I agreed with the reading, when I first climbed in to the truck. But I doubt this kind of thing happens often enough to make that worthwhile.David G.

Walked in Sunday morning, 2 customers, they yelled at me to put on a mask, despite CDC guigelines saying you dont need to if you are fully vacinated, which I am. I have to go back to my car and get a mask. Come back in and another customer had came in and now I have to wait. Customer forgot his license and has to go back out to his car to get it. I ask if they can help me, he says no they are waiting for the customer to get his license. I say I was here first. No response. Now 10 new customers show up, only 2 employees working on a Sunday morning? Finally get called up. He tells me my reservation is at the east side location. I tell him he is wrong and show him my reservation on my phone which clearly shows it is the Verona rd location. After I return the U-haul later that night after hours, I go online at the store to check out and it says it can not locate me despite me allowing location services. There is no way to check out. I ordered the vehicle over a month ago using the app. When I checked in with the app I wasn't sure how to get the key because it doesn't tell you until the end how that happens. I found the vehicle according to the app's instructions, and I put all my stuff in the vehicle. Then the instructions said to go inside for the key and that there would be no wait. So I went inside but I had to wait. Apparently, they were renting the same vehicle to another driver while I was waiting to get my key. The other driver went to the vehicle and started driving off. One of my friends happened to be there, and waved at the guy who was driving away with my stuff, and he took out some of my belongings but my friend didn't know everything that was in the van. A very expensive pair of glasses were left in the van. I ended up having to go to the other renter's home in order to retrieve my glasses, but the vehicle was there without my glasses in it, and U-Haul had given me no way to contact the man who rented the vehicle. I ended up being an hour and a half late to where I was supposed to go as a result. All U-Haul did was comp 30 miles for the extra driving, not for my time or anything. Then when I returned the vehicle they didn't even know how to give me the 30 mile discount so it took me another 45 minutes to return the vehicle while they looked stuff up on the computer. Finally, when I got home I looked at the receipt and it appears that they didn't even give me the 30 mile discount after all. The person who checked me out just could not figure out how to do that, but he assured me multiple times that the discount was reflected in the final price. I will never rent from U-Haul again. It was so disorganized and expensive, considering the time wasted.Freya K.

I made my reservation online and was told I'd get an entrance code and storage number immediately. I never received it. I called U-Haul and confirmed that my reservation was valid and they said yes. I added my nephew as an approved person to access the storage. When he arrived he was told that there wasn't a reservation. 44 minutes later, I had to do everything online again. VERY frustrating that my nephew couldn't get in quickly as we had planned. Very upset that the reservation number 'wasn't valid' then annoyed that I had to restart all over online. Honesty because I was charged 55$ for gas and I did not even use 1/4 tank and a1/4 tank is roughly 15 gallons and with it being regular it should have been about 30$ because 17 gallons is 50$samantha T.
The back of the van had trash it it (MacDonolds food bags and wrappers) and the vehicle REEKED of pot. I thought I was going to get a contact high driving it away from the store. Curiously, the U-Haul agent who went and got the van didn't seem to garbage in it, nor the odor. It made me suspect that it's the U-Haul staff themselves smoking up and eating MacDonalds in it.John S.

Your employees were great but your system stinks. I understand that you need a reference to pick up because I'm 24 not 25 yet, but seriously was there no way to tell me that until we're trying to pick up the darn thing? I didn't just have 2 references ready waiting to pick up a stranger's phone call to verify that I could indeed get a uhaul! We had helpers coming to get the big furniture and I was sitting there in a parking lot typing the slowest response system about how many references were needed anyway and did my dad answer, no, ok, here's my mom's phone, oh my dad verified my mom's phone? great, can I get it now, no? I need yet another reference? Simultaneously on the phone with my parents trying to coordinate them to pick up the phones for strange numbers. Seriously, could this not have been done in advance like every other check-in item? Or you could have at least told me we'd need to do it in advance so I'd have people ready. We were late for the movers and it cut significantly into the time we had arranged to have the uhaul for. I'm very displeased with your system, and honestly would think twice before using you again.AARON O.
I suggest that gas levels in the vehicle should at least be above half a tank of gas. It's frustrating to pick up a vehicle and have only 1/4 of a tank in the truck. Like most rental car companies, you have to fill the tank before dropping it off and I feel like that should be similar to the truck rental space. Even requiring at least half a tank would be better than having to get the tank "back to the level you got it at."GARY W.

I have been to the physical location 2x to deal with the charges and called 2x. Every time i am told it is taken care of but i still keep getting a bill. 1-initially you gave me a unit on second or third floor. I'm 50, I can't hall a couch and chair up 2 flights and down a very long hallway. I asked for a closer one and there was one available. Thank goodness. But why did I have to ask. Person should have recognized my lack of muscle power 2- my card never worked after hours 3- when closing account, I was in a hurry as I rented a pick up truck and I was being charged. Your person was in the bathroom for a very long time and there was nobody at the check out desks. I was waiting 5 plus minutes. Thankfully Menards didn't charge me the 10 minutes I went over for the truck rental. And my card didn't work picking up my stuff and your person was very slow walking to let me in. My only issue was that it said it was a first floor split level. So it's on a second floor and had to climb stairs. I didn't realize that. But we were taking stuff out of our unit during access hours when no one was there and accidentally locked our keys/key card inside the building. With the low employment rate, better employees could be found. Are you under-staffed, or is every one in the break room? Do you pay them a living wage? In any case there seems to be very poor moral. Ok, the puddle in the back of the truck wasn't water, it was motor oil. I cleaned that mess up. And, are the key cards not activated? Alarms going off everywhere. An employee said don't worry. Remember, moving is very stressful. You made it worse. Also, when picking up the truck early in the morning, it was a total surprise that we needed to call someone! Unacceptable. I could go on. The U-Haul website does not make it clear that reserving a unit online only saves some basic information to your account. Reserving a unit online does not guarantee that they will have that unit available for the dates you selected. My "15 minute" check-in took one hour... and I was at the front of the line. Storage facility met our needs. My only issue is we paid for the last months rent and only used the storage unit for one week of the last month. Monthly rent should be prorated when that happens. I asked the local place and they said to call U-Haul. I called U-Haul, and they said to check with the local place. I have now been told that the rental contracts don't state that. I didn't appreciate the lack of not being notified about the water leakage. You can send me emails and charge me late fees but not one notice of a water leak. Clothes and furniture got damaged. I reserved a unit online on Monday and went in on Wednesday, the date I'd chosen to start my lease, only to be told that the unit had already been rented. What's the point of reserving a unit if the reservation doesn't mean anything? Why even bother having that feature on the website? The location was what I was looking for and the staff were helpful and patient with my frustration so I rented a similar unit upstairs but not having the original unit I signed up for was a big disappointment. Generally happy with it. While the facility is well lit, the storage unit itself is not and since we had a unit at the end, it was very dark, thus requiring us to bring a light in on each visit. The hours for access is also inconsistent with signs. You think you can access it anytime with the key card but that only opens certain doors and outer doors are locked. The unit has a mouse trap and there's definitely some rat droppings when we moved out. On our last day to move out, our unit was locked as if we did not pay the rent and we did. Someone locked my unit within two weeks of rental. I was on a deadline to move out of my house and this caused a significant delay because none of the staff could find the key to remove the lock. I've experienced long wait times when contacting the office, as well as long waits in the office despite there being an abundance of employees in circulation. I rented the storage unit a week ago. I completed the rental agreement online and it was very easy. They emailed me the code to get in along with information on my locker.
