When I made my reservation I had added 1 dozen furniture pads. In the past the pads were ready in the truck. I left only to find they were not. I had to come back and the associate told me I should have picked them up on the way out the door. How am I supposed to know that if I'm not told? So I picked up a bag and it turns out there are only 6 pads in a bag. The associate never told me to pick up two bags! Then he sold me a lock which did not have a long enough shank to lock the back of the truck! I asked him if he was sure it would fit but it did not. It turned out to be the kind that's appropriate for a storage locker. All in all, a lot of hassle and aggravation. I didn't go back about the lock because I couldn't waste more time and instead used one from home.Kendra G.

Overall a good experience, but a few issues that need to be addressed: Pickup: Another employee working the counter told the gentlemen helping me just to give me the keys and find the truck myself, just because there was one or two people waiting behind me. Pickup was scheduled for 7am which I was there for and other people rolled in shortly after. There were others available to help the other customers and thankfully the gentlemen helping me insisted on showing me where the truck was. The truck itself: Someone left a cup of coffee or something in the cab and was completely frozen when I got in. Just goes to show the truck wasn't actually cleaned between rentals. Secondly, the headlights barely worked so driving in the dark on unlit highways (with a load and to the return) was dangerous. Return/Drop-off: This is where I bring most my issue--I was in the lot at 6:50p when the location closed at 7p so I was cutting it a bit close. When I walked in, there were two or three employees working and one quickly dismissed me to go "return the truck myself" stating that the rental return was closed...but there were still people working and there was nothing posted about "return rental hours". I took this as extremely poor customer service and sheer laziness of the guy who "greeted" me at the door. Not to mention I ended up having issues with the website to complete the return, but eventually worked.matthew B.

Something that would have made this a perfect rental; I actually needed the tow dolly the night before, after hours. What I wish is that there was a way to get an item after office hours, If you could do EVERYTHING online and either get a code or password to unlock or retrieve the item you wish to rent. Even if, due to the convenience and lack of employee to inspect the item, one had to accept full liability and release U-Haul of responsibility.Robert H.
I was very happy with my experience overall - the equipment I needed was available, and ready on short order. I also like the location and layout of the Verona Road site. I often bike past on the path and chose this location because of your efforts to be welcoming to path users too! Uhaul had changed the location of pick up on me 3 times. When I called to ask why and requested help correcting this someone from Milwaukee responded with she couldn't offer an answer or a solution but repeated to me that she was not from the Madison office. So, either your website is not refreshing quick enough or something is off with the system there. When picking up the vehical a dolly and flatbed was missing from my order. I am glad I checked before leaving as it would have added more money as I paid movers by the hour. This delay also caused me to be later for the movers. I wish someone checked that everythign was set in the truck as ordered as it wasn't busy when I arrvived at the Verona locatoin.TU L.

The staff was busy talking and complaining to each other including more than one f-bomb while talking about other customers that had been in. They were sitting at the counter with their masks on like beards so they could drink tea and eat sunflower seed, which involved putting their hands in their mounts and then touching everything. else around them, including keys -and paperwork they then handed to customers.Bryan P.

I had done all the logistics on-line with instructions to pick up a van at 6 a.m. in McFarland, 3 miles away. when I got to the parking lot no vehicle, but a change to Verona rd. location. So I drive over to your location and turn on the wi fi for your location which did not work and kept booting me out. Then an employee working to open the site tells me I have to wait until 7 a.m. when he can look me up on a computer. So I sit until 7 a.m. and at 7:25 leave the parking lot. Then above all, I had it until 4 p.m. and already lost two hours and receive a call that I am not back yet at 4 p.m.MARK P.

As one of two customers waiting to return trailers, I had to go inside to request assistance for all of us after no Uhaul personnel came out to assist with the equipment return. The Uhaul person who eventually did our check in then approached our vehicle with his face mask down under his chin, and I had to specifically ask him to stop and put his face mask on before approaching further. There is also an expectation that customers back the trailers into the spot where the place wants the trailer parked, despite the facility having tools to allow for trailers to be unhooked and moved into position. Ultimately, it took me longer to check-in the trailer than it did to unload it into a 3d floor apartment.Taggart H.

The location and store were great. The man who came out when I brought back the truck was very rude. I was putting the mileage in my phone when he approached the truck. I said, "Can you give me a minute? I'm not ready yet." He said, "then you want to do a self return?" I had him repeat it because I didn't hear. I said, "No, I'm just not ready yet. I'm trying to figure out the mileage.", he stood right there, I was still sitting, basically intimidating me to be done! As I got out, I couldn't find my wallet..I left it at home. I told him that I did & asked what would happen..does he just want me to give him the $8 the chart says I owe? I had 3/4 tank showing. He said, "No. I have to check the mileage and.." I said, "the chart says it's $8..what will happen"? "Well you'll get a fuel surcharge". I said, " Nevermind, I'll go get my wallet". He says, "There's a gas station across the street". ( if I don't have my wallet, how would I pay?! Also, if you supply a chart to follow and the chart says I can expect to pay $8 if there's 3/4 tank left, what's the point of the customer getting the chart?) So I got my wallet, got gas which was $12, not $8. Btw, the tank was *not* Full when I got in it. I noticed that but figured it was faulty equipment & I was about 8 blocks away. So, anyway, now I was really annoyed by everything to be honest. I have been a paying customer for a storage unit for the last 7 years! I've bought and paid to have a tow hitch installed before. I've rented a trailer 3-4 times and hired movers from your website. I pad for a trailer, movers & drove to Texas, then rented a storage unit- drove down a few months later, rented another trailer and drove to WI.! So I'm a long time customer who has paid enough in storage fees to buy a brand new car! Anyway, when I finally got back to Uhaul, the same man came out. I decided to be nice & forget about earlier. So I said a friendly hello. He said it hello back. He looked over the truck then said I drove 80 some miles. I said I did NOT! When I first got in the truck I was unable to read the mileage because the message said "tighten gas cap" which I did but nothing changed. It was when I got ready to leave where I picked up furniture that I could see the mileage & made a note. After I told him that, he lowered it to 72. I said I agree to that. He didn't hear and went on about the odometer and how you can't change what an odometer has...I said louder that I agree to 72 miles & explained at first I was figuring for a one way trip, not 2, but they guessed 45 after I told them I was going further. (I told the guy at the counter that I put 20 miles down but I would now be going further to Janesville, so he put down 45 miles) He snaps, "No YOU put down 45!" I said, "Noooo, THEY put down 45!" Then I outright said, "Why are you talking to me this way?" He wouldn't look at me or apologize, nothing. His tone was better in the last few seconds because we were done. When people come to return the equipment, chances are most are tired, sore, and crabby! There is no reason to add fuel to the fire! I am polite no matter how I feel. I also have to double check everything when it comes to certain things for the simple fact that I'm a woman. I learned that long ago! But your guy was rude from minute one & it was completely uncalled for. He probably assumed I was texting somebody when I was putting in the ending mileage. Maybe he couldn't see that I'm 56! I even told him I was putting down the mileage & that I think I might be overcharged. That's when I realized I forgot my wallet. Anyway, I don't normally tell a company how they did but this time I felt you should know. I don't know if he does this to all women, or assumed I was texting & thought it rude...I really don't know! But after the day I just had, it was the last thing I needed to encounter already being stressed out & in pain! (And a darn good customer). Annette.ANNETTE K.

The 10 ft can was not in good condition The driver seat adjustment was broken and could it be adjusted Side mirrors which are essential for lane changes and or reversing were so badly adjusted you had the leave the seat and shift front to back to be able to use them Beware the pictures of the actual rental truck They are taken so far from the vechicle that any damage to the vehicle is barely seen in the photos As a result when you drop off the rental the fucking idiot who is one his own at the uhaul store tries to hang existing damage to the hardware on the current rental and an argument ensues Ducking g idiots are hired to work at uhaul so beware uhaul and rent from Ryder truck rental their vehicles are by far superior and maintained unlike the uhaul vehicles which are poorly maintained Pay a little extra and rent from Ryder truck and avoid uhaul since they do not maintain the vehicles and try to pull a fast one when inferior danaged vehicles are returned to this site Remember you get what you pay for Uhaul should be your last choice Mennards even rents fir $19.85 an hour No frills or extras per mile No false fuel tank readings when to pick up the vehicle Generally no idiots at the rental centers eitherSTEPHEN F.

I did the online thing but the dolly wasn't in the truck and I couldn't find the key. Went into the store and they couldn't find the key either. Went with a different truck of the same size. But switching trucks ended up making check in take longer and be a bit confusing. Overall the truck was good and the workers were friendly, but had a lot of extra waiting because of the confusion of not finding the key. Also the online method could've been better by adding my emergency contact or passport info during initial sign up instead of at check in. I recommend this location mainly because of where it is than anything special about it.Kevin S.

UHaul should rethink their entire customer service process. NEVER, EVER go with them. Pay whatever you can to avoid this horrible service. It may seem reasonable and they are sweet in the store, but they bit us at every corner with changes and incorrect prices. I was assured by the staff in UHaul that I should install a trailer hitch on my car and tow my own things across country for my move. I listened to them, and after hours of distress, nothing worked. I had to use the UBox anyways and received no return for the services paid to UHaul previously. When we came in to exchange for the UBox (since the hitch they installed bottomed out with the trailer below weight on my Audi), the computer systems were down but they ensured me that the price would be $1300 and my belongings would be delivered to Burlington, VT. I never received a call from UHaul, and eventually had to call them to check on my things. I continued to not hear back about the final price until I received an email saying that I would be charged $1650 (with no refund for the services I already paid). After several hours on the phone, the customer service said they could not do anything and directed me to a manager of a store. I couldn't get ahold of any managers for multiple days, I ran in circles to reach them. Although they promised they would not actually charge my card (and continue to deny that they attempted the charge), my card was charged for over $1700 over 3 times which actually caused my card to be shut down. I also received an email from Uhaul informing me that they charged my card (even though they deny charging it). I had never given them this card for this purpose and specifically called and asked them NOT to charge that card and that I would provide payment to a manager when I received a call back. I never, in fact, got that call back. I then received an email that my goods had been delieverd to Plattsburgh, NY instead of Burlington. I ended up having to pay $1700. I was refunded nothing and I had to drive and pick up the UBox myself and then bring it back to drop it off again at the place over 2 hours away in Plattsburgh. Uhaul has provided no explanation or care for their complete lack of customer service and failure to provide what they promised. I have tried multiple times to call and file formal complaints and each time the complaint disappears and they cant find it the next time I call. I will never ever come back to this establishment.ALENNA B.

Communication at this uhaul has been completely lacking. From the date I scheduled a pick up months ago, to the night of my return, there has been nothing but miscommunication on uhauls end. I had to go with a 20 foot truck, and had to incur an out of town fee since I had to pick it up from a Uhaul across town. I would not recommend the West side location. Reserved a 10 footer the night before and in the morning was running 30 behind so called and switched pickup time to 9:30. Get there and was told my reservation was canceled and put to the Park street location. The west side didn't have my 10 foot truck available and he didn't know why it was canceled, park street also didn't have any. Andy found one at the Verona location and had them reserve a 15 footer for me at the 10 foot rate and reduced the mile to $.39 a mile. I get to Verona and they have no 15 footers available we call Andy and they talk finally got a truck due to Wayne! Wayne and Na'te at the Verona road location were amazing!!Katrice M.

The process was confusing. The information online wasn't clear. I didn't know when I chose the time and distance whether we would be charged for only the distance we actually travelled or the distance I put in Online regardless of how far we actually travelled. I didn't know if we could keep the truck longer if we needed to. It wasn't clear what the checkin/pickup process was. There should have been clear written instructions before we started the process. We didn't know how long it would take so we got the truck later than expected and we didn't know we would have to provide the number of a person to call at time of pick up so we had to scramble to find someone who was able to take a phone call right then. For returning the truck we decided to just try talking to a person instead of figuring out what the online instructions were but we stood there for a while wondering if we were in the right place before anyone came out. So very detailed written instructions (and video to cover all types of learners) explaining step by step what we would do at time of drop off and pick up before clicking â€œI'm ready to pick up my truckâ€ would make the whole thing much better.Beth V.

1-initially you gave me a unit on second or third floor. I'm 50, I can't hall a couch and chair up 2 flights and down a very long hallway. I asked for a closer one and there was one available. Thank goodness. But why did I have to ask. Person should have recognized my lack of muscle power 2- my card never worked after hours 3- when closing account, I was in a hurry as I rented a pick up truck and I was being charged. Your person was in the bathroom for a very long time and there was nobody at the check out desks. I was waiting 5 plus minutes. Thankfully Menards didn't charge me the 10 minutes I went over for the truck rental. And my card didn't work picking up my stuff and your person was very slow walking to let me in. My only issue was that it said it was a first floor split level. So it's on a second floor and had to climb stairs. I didn't realize that. But we were taking stuff out of our unit during access hours when no one was there and accidentally locked our keys/key card inside the building. With the low employment rate, better employees could be found. Are you under-staffed, or is every one in the break room? Do you pay them a living wage? In any case there seems to be very poor moral. Ok, the puddle in the back of the truck wasn't water, it was motor oil. I cleaned that mess up. And, are the key cards not activated? Alarms going off everywhere. An employee said don't worry. Remember, moving is very stressful. You made it worse. Also, when picking up the truck early in the morning, it was a total surprise that we needed to call someone! Unacceptable. I could go on. The U-Haul website does not make it clear that reserving a unit online only saves some basic information to your account. Reserving a unit online does not guarantee that they will have that unit available for the dates you selected. My "15 minute" check-in took one hour... and I was at the front of the line. Storage facility met our needs. My only issue is we paid for the last months rent and only used the storage unit for one week of the last month. Monthly rent should be prorated when that happens. I asked the local place and they said to call U-Haul. I called U-Haul, and they said to check with the local place. I have now been told that the rental contracts don't state that. I didn't appreciate the lack of not being notified about the water leakage. You can send me emails and charge me late fees but not one notice of a water leak. Clothes and furniture got damaged. I reserved a unit online on Monday and went in on Wednesday, the date I'd chosen to start my lease, only to be told that the unit had already been rented. What's the point of reserving a unit if the reservation doesn't mean anything? Why even bother having that feature on the website? The location was what I was looking for and the staff were helpful and patient with my frustration so I rented a similar unit upstairs but not having the original unit I signed up for was a big disappointment. Generally happy with it. While the facility is well lit, the storage unit itself is not and since we had a unit at the end, it was very dark, thus requiring us to bring a light in on each visit. The hours for access is also inconsistent with signs. You think you can access it anytime with the key card but that only opens certain doors and outer doors are locked. The unit has a mouse trap and there's definitely some rat droppings when we moved out. On our last day to move out, our unit was locked as if we did not pay the rent and we did. Someone locked my unit within two weeks of rental. I was on a deadline to move out of my house and this caused a significant delay because none of the staff could find the key to remove the lock. I've experienced long wait times when contacting the office, as well as long waits in the office despite there being an abundance of employees in circulation.
