As a long time renter at this facility I think the current management is doing a great job-it's always clean and the elevators work reliably. This was not always the case. Several issues continue to cause difficulty. One, there is often no parking at the loading locations, there are sometimes no hand carts, there are not enough stairs (we had an upper unit). Sunday hours should start before 9 am. Last, there is not much uhaul can do but the general safety in the area has deteriorated significantly to the point where I would not rent here again.KAREN A. | Overall Experience

The rest of the team were unsurprisingly pleasant and helpful, leadership comes from the top. I have only one issue with this location, I was promised a 10x10 storage and was given a 10x15 storage at a higher cost, and this was done by canceling my reservation and creating a new one. We were overcharged by over $200 and the checkout process was a mess. First we were issued a van that was boxed in. Then we were issued a different van with a contract stating the mileage was 130 less than the odometer. We asked to have this fixed and customer service said they would fix it but did not. The costumer service was great from the staff, but I rented a pick up truck and I don't think it was safe to drive. The light for low pressure tire was on. I actively would encourage people not to go to this location. I got charged $150 for damages that I can't even confirm happened under my use. I have been a user of UHaul for some time now, but this experience has made me want to swear of UHaul forever and start using Penske or Budget Truck. On top of the charge, and summed up 2 hours was wasted as I was tossed around from rep to rep in the corporate office unable to return the call that the head manager at the location had called me from and requested I call her back-- dreadful experience- I have had better customer support from Comcast.... that should burn. Here is my tip as someone who is in client management: Communicate and know what the heck you are talking about before filing a dispute on if the damage was covered by the CDW.Thomas W.

Customer service in the store was super poor. The rep was very unprofessional and annoyed that he had to assist me in picking up my rental truck that I had reserved. The truck itself is hazardous to be driven. It must be reported to the highway safety. I am not sure how such piece is even allowed on the roads. Driver seat doesn't move. Check engine light is on. Breaks barely exist. Driver side mirror kept flipping over which made it difficult to see left side traffic. The back door latch was difficult to open and close. It would get stuck. The steering wheel is completely worn out. Turing the wheel left or right causes the truck to veer off road. It needs alignment. One of the headlights is out so driving at night was scary. This is a very dangerous vehicle to be on the road.Hebah H.

I can understand working with people can be difficult but some people are just plain rude. No one is forcing you to work here and we're all trying to get everything done as quickly as possible to get out of your hair. Being unprofessional makes the experience longer and more difficult. The location is great! But I leased a truck that was on empty. The person who helped me told me that it was down to a 1/8 of a tank. Well guess what, it did not have that much. As I proceeded to get gas I ran out of gas on the side of the road. At first, I could not get a hold of them and finally when I did, the representative told me that I should have went to a gas station closer to the location, which she should have told me that info when I leased it. Not being from the area I had no ideal that there was a station located not far from the location. Luckily someone was following me who helped me in the pouring rain. They didn't have a gas can and had to purchase a can. Also, when they returned after about 40 minutes and after we put the gas in it wasn't enough to get it started. Another 30 minutes passed to get more gas. Total nightmare on leasing a truck which they knowingly knew was on empty. Worst experience ever.Vanessa P.

The employees who helped me were great! The system there is flawed and caused them and me to spend waaaaay more time than necessary finding an actually available storage space. I reserved a space online. I showed up and it was one of many spaces that users had not paid for on time. It took a full hour for the employees to locate an actually available space. I want to say the in my previous business with u-haul I never experienced such terrible customer service, I want to elaborate about it, wondering whether or not are you going to take actions, I hope you do, when I rented this unit I had to put my cc on file because I had to go out of town, when I came back I went to the location on 1501 S Capitol SE DC, I asked a lady in customer service how you cancel of services policy worked, she said: "all you gotta do is empty the unit before the due date and that's it" and I did exactly that way. Worth to mention that in my previous business with u-haul I paid cash so this time was a new experience, on the due date I noticed I was charged from u-haul and I called to see what happened, the man that picked up my call which by the way never presented properly with a name or employee number with a very rough and aggressive attitude said when I questioned him about the charge: did you cancel the unit? I did, did you leave the unit locked? No, the pad lock is mine why should I leave it, no you did not cancel because the unit still active, he said, it upset me and I said well you should train your people properly because I came and asked how to cancel of services policy work and this lady said... This man needs to go through customer service training again, he said: am gonna send someone to make sure the unit is empty and unlocked and hung up on me. I came back to 1501 S capitol st SE DC after I called my bank to freeze any activity from u-haul in my bank account, and this sweet young lady, a manager, took care of me as any professional business representative would and "fixed" my situation, now everything seems okay, I am just waiting to get my hard earned money back. The 2 hours I spend over the phone calling my bank and u-haul is over, i never was able to address this situation over the phone because nobody ever answered in the complains department my call, I tried a different line for reserve, make a payment or continue services with u-haul and the call was answered within seconds by Marjorie, she wasn't able to help for obvious reason, I needed to talk to complains and no services, I just hope nobody in the future experiences what I did in the future. When I came back to move my stuff out of my storage unit, there was water damage to many of the items. The only insurance option for the items does not actually pay out the value of the items, but a very depreciated calculator value. This facility rated below average to me due to my first experience here. I specifically asked for a walk in storage due to storing of furniture, but I received a stack storage. We had to manually lift our heavy furniture in the air to place into space. I did not go back to customer service to correct the mistake because checking in was horrific. They ladies were on their cellphones, they did not look or act professionally welcoming. When they finally assisted me it took at least 30 mins or more to set us up for service. I was very confused on how long it was taking when I had already made the reservations by phone. I continued to be professional hoping it would help quickly with my processing in. The continuing irritation with management was the frequent breakdown of the elevator nearest the vehicle ramp. The real reason I left though is the frequent increases in rent. I considered moving to a smaller unit in your facility, but they are too difficult to get in and out of given my age. There is literally no parking. It is extremely inconvenient to get in and out of area. If someone is using the ramp to load or unload, the only option is to wait. If a car comes you may have to leave the area. The alarm sounds each time I open my unit. Instructions on accessing the storage area were vague "here's a plan, this is your unit, that way". I had booked a first floor and got a third floor. Elevator is was not operational but there was no help. Overall, though, it is a great solution for Sae DC storage needs.Carlos P. | First Impressions
