The employees who helped me were great! The system there is flawed and caused them and me to spend waaaaay more time than necessary finding an actually available storage space. I reserved a space online. I showed up and it was one of many spaces that users had not paid for on time. It took a full hour for the employees to locate an actually available space. Showed up at 7am, left with a reserved space at 8:55 am. What a waste of time.Jean L.

I want to say the in my previous business with u-haul I never experienced such terrible customer service, I want to elaborate about it, wondering whether or not are you going to take actions, I hope you do, when I rented this unit I had to put my cc on file because I had to go out of town, when I came back I went to the location on 1501 S Capitol SE DC, I asked a lady in customer service how you cancel of services policy worked, she said: "all you gotta do is empty the unit before the due date and that's it" and I did exactly that way. Worth to mention that in my previous business with u-haul I paid cash so this time was a new experience, on the due date I noticed I was charged from u-haul and I called to see what happened, the man that picked up my call which by the way never presented properly with a name or employee number with a very rough and aggressive attitude said when I questioned him about the charge: did you cancel the unit? I did, did you leave the unit locked? No, the pad lock is mine why should I leave it, no you did not cancel because the unit still active, he said, it upset me and I said well you should train your people properly because I came and asked how to cancel of services policy work and this lady said... This man needs to go through customer service training again, he said: am gonna send someone to make sure the unit is empty and unlocked and hung up on me. I came back to 1501 S capitol st SE DC after I called my bank to freeze any activity from u-haul in my bank account, and this sweet young lady, a manager, took care of me as any professional business representative would and "fixed" my situation, now everything seems okay, I am just waiting to get my hard earned money back. The 2 hours I spend over the phone calling my bank and u-haul is over, i never was able to address this situation over the phone because nobody ever answered in the complains department my call, I tried a different line for reserve, make a payment or continue services with u-haul and the call was answered within seconds by Marjorie, she wasn't able to help for obvious reason, I needed to talk to complains and no services, I just hope nobody in the future experiences what I did in the future. The staff here were great. I notified them about the mileage and gas issues I had and they reassured me that I was correct, that the Philly personnel should have done his due diligence in documenting the discrepancies (because Uhaul staff are trained to do so) rather that leaving this situation as is and that it was negligent on that Philly personnel's part. The woman who assisted me with the reservation was pleasant but she just directed me to the lot to find the vehicle on my own. There were at least 40 other vehicles out there. I then had to call the office and request the location of the vehicle. Tanisha was not pleasant or helpful when I could not close the back door of the vehicle. The smell of marijuana was sickening. There were six people in the register area. The lady helping me kept having trouble with her computer and it took almost an hour to get the truck. Being on a strict time line, this was a huge hurdle. They didn't give me the equipment I rented with the truck, I had to find it on my own "around the building." I also had to find the truck "in the back." Other staff entered the building as I the lady finished checking me out and not one of them could assist me in "finding" everything. The mat of the U-Haul was dirty. The website kept crashing when I tried to upload "dispute" photos. The staff was mostly unfriendly and even rude. Worst of all, the pictures of the van that I had to "dispute" were taken when it was brand new â€" even though the van had clearly seen a lot of use. It was was covered in dirt, dents, and scratches. If I hadn't "disputed" its condition, I may have been charged. Why would U-Haul upload pictures of a brand-new vehicle even though it's clearly been in use for years? The answer: to charge people for "damages" that were already there... which is a highly disreputable business practice. Additionally, having to "dispute" all these false photos made me late for my move-out. I have screenshots of these photos I had to "dispute" and will be posting more reviews and will be spreading this on social media for people to see. This is not how business should be conducted by a large company such as U-Haul. A refund is certainly in order.MATTHEW W.
Put gas in the vehicle. I had less than 1/8th of a tank of gas (touching the "E"). Asked the staff if they had anything with gas and they informed me that the other vehicle had less than mine. I reserved furniture pads and dolly and the location did not have those items which made my life/move 1000 times harder. I also got the truck at 1/4 of a tank. I then had to pull the truck out of a very tight spot that it was parked in. Finally while I was there, one of the staff realized that someone had been on hold for AN HOUR and they had just forgotten about it (this did not directly affect me but clearly an indication of how lost in the sauce this branch id).Jacob F.

I drove 20 miles, and the UHaul location charged me for EIGHT gallons of gas. I think those trucks go more than 2-3 isles per gallon. In other words I was ripped off in gas fees. Key didn't turn in the ignition without trying a bunch of times. This happened every time I tried to start the truck. Got stuck at a gas station for 10 mins trying to turn the key. The suspension on the truck I rented seemed off, rear end was bouncing all over the place on decent pavement. Transmission took forever to shift up, which lead to poor fuel efficiency. Door took multiple attempts to close. Passenger window crank didn't work. No sun visor on the passenger side. Not the first I've driven a truck like this, but this truck seemed to be poorly maintained. The employees at this U-Haul location are kind and helpful! Easy to return and pick up the truck.Ryan P.

Arrived early for my reservation, waited 15+ minutes to check in, and when we got to the truck, the additional items we had included in our reservation (furniture pads & furniture dolly) were missing. We waited an additional 30+ minutes for staff to try and locate the equipment before eventually telling us they didn't have it and asking if we could substitute. So by the time we finally left the facility, we had been waiting more than 1 hour. Because of this, we had our loading dock reservation time reduced and it took longer than planned to load the truck. This delay caused us to miss our reservation at the destination loading dock, which in turn took longer to unload than it should have. All of these delays (caused by the initial unpreparedness of the equipment at the facility) meant that we returned our truck ~45 minutes late and were charged double the amount we expected. Never use this facility unless you want to be guaranteed to run late and spend twice as much as you want.Pearce C.

In answering yes that the truck I rented was clean, I mean to indicate that the cargo bay had very few bits of debris from the prior customer, and the outside had been washed. There was peeled paint and stains on the outside of the cargo bay, but this did not affect operation of the vehicle.David H.
I picked up the truck and paperwork indicated fuel at 9/16 full. When I drove truck home, fuel gauge was exactly on 1/2 full mark. Nevertheless, I returned the truck today to where the fuel gauge was slightly beyond the 1/2 full mark. When I received my return receipt, I have been charged 13 dollars for 2 gallons of gas. So ultimately I returned the truck with more fuel than I started; the truck was a hunk of junk; I returned the truck cleaner than it has been likely in months; and I returned the truck in under 48 hours from rental and not eh full four days so U-Haul wins there on getting the truck back rented quicker. And for this I am hit with a 13 dollar charge. I cannot express how disappointed in getting hit with this extra charge. I'll be coming back to DC next summer to move daughter back home and can assure you a competitor will get my business.JAIRUS S.

You guys are making money and you're paying the employees, if they can't adhere to certain standards then they shouldn't work there. I originally made a reservation for 4:00 pm on Sunday 7/31. As I was on my way (2 minutes away) I called to ask if they had my vehicle ready which I was told they did not. They then rebooked me with a mini-mover. When I arrived and asked for the vehicle, I was told the reservation had been switched for pickup at a Falls Church location. I didn't receive any notice of the rebooking or even the specific falls church location. I was truly enraged since I literally had no way to get a vehicle. I had to ask my landlord for an extension and rebooked the next day. The next day I arrived a woman was walking around helping customers with one shoe on. I was so confused. Finally got my van which was in good shape. When I returned at 10:00 pm that night , the fire alarm in the building was going off and 3 firetrucks were blocking the road and creating a chaotic scene. From my experience, this location and Uhaul's care for their client tell is an absolute disaster. You offer a truck guarantee â€œor $50â€ lol. Do you think $50 offsets the chaos I went through? Hell no. I've rarely ever been so angry at a company as I was on Sunday.PATRICK O.

When I came back to move my stuff out of my storage unit, there was water damage to many of the items. The only insurance option for the items does not actually pay out the value of the items, but a very depreciated calculator value. Not only that, but when I called U-Haul to report the damage, they told me several customers in my unit had previously had water damage, which was not disclosed to me before moving my furniture in.Alice V. | Overall Experience

This facility rated below average to me due to my first experience here. I specifically asked for a walk in storage due to storing of furniture, but I received a stack storage. We had to manually lift our heavy furniture in the air to place into space. I did not go back to customer service to correct the mistake because checking in was horrific. They ladies were on their cellphones, they did not look or act professionally welcoming. When they finally assisted me it took at least 30 mins or more to set us up for service. I was very confused on how long it was taking when I had already made the reservations by phone. I continued to be professional hoping it would help quickly with my processing in. The continuing irritation with management was the frequent breakdown of the elevator nearest the vehicle ramp. The real reason I left though is the frequent increases in rent. I considered moving to a smaller unit in your facility, but they are too difficult to get in and out of given my age. There is literally no parking. It is extremely inconvenient to get in and out of area. If someone is using the ramp to load or unload, the only option is to wait. If a car comes you may have to leave the area. The alarm sounds each time I open my unit. Well Bottom Line We Must Think If The Future for all mankind...and U - Don't or hasn't given anything back to the community not the community that they are station in but the surrounding community's the poor areas .those area where a donation from a big company like U Haul would be Greatly Appreciated.. am not asking that u give this city a dime but that u put something in community's that can use any kind of enlighting ..advanced math books that kids in the down trotting areas don't see any educational Tool hand sanitizer masks ...give back ..get in y'all's board room and put together a think tank crew or SEND FOR ME..
