mike C.Unfortunately, these questions do not ask about the entire U-Haul. It does not ask about my reservation itself, WHICH WAS CANCELLED BY UHAUL. I ONLY FOUND OUT WHEN I WENT TO PICKUP THE TRUCK, AND I WAS TOLD IT HAD BEEN CANCELLED. I RESERVED ONLINE A COUPLE DAYS EARLIER, I PAID IN FULL, WAS GIVEN A RESERVATION NUMBER, PICK-UP DETAILS, ETC. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY RESERVATION AND IT WAS PROBABLY CANCELLED BECAUSE THEY HAD THE SAME TRUCK GOING TO NJ THE NEXT DAY. AT THAT TIME I FELT I WAS OVER A BARREL, I NEEDED A TRUCK THAT DAY AND TIME. I HAD TO RENT ANOTHER TRUCK, WHICH WAS BIGGER (THE ONLY ONE AVAILABLE) AND MORE EXPENSVIE THAN WHAT I ORGINALLY RESERVED AND PAID FOR! i I WILL NEED TO RENT MOVING TRUCKS IN MAY AND AUGUST THIS YEAR TO MOVE MY CHILD FROM COLLEGE - THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD I WOULD EVER RENT FROM UHAUL AND I DONT RECOMMEND YOU DO EITHER. I contacted Uhaul 3 weeks ago and they have not responded, so I'm leaving this here.

Philip C.One very important thing to do before renting your trucks or vans is making sure before clients get the rental that the air on tires are checked. As soon as I left the location with My last rental I had to put air on the rear right tire twice in one day. Dashboard message kept saying air tire was low. Spend the entire time worrying while driving. I'm not paying to rent and have to deal with this. This needs attention so Custmer not have worries while driving. WILLIAM S.I had to move some outdoor furniture that wouldn't fit in my car, so went online and rented an 8ft truck for 4hrs on the U-Haul website. Easy! On the day of the rental the process was quick and straightforward. The staff is friendly, engaging and efficient at multi-tasking a busy location so my processing went smoothly, and I was able to get my mission accomplished. YaHoo!l I won't hesitate to use U-Haul in downtown Charleston again whenever there's a need ~ good experiences begin with the people in them and this group is exceptional!

Michael E.This was the most poorly maintained trailer I have ever rented from U-Haul. There were marker lights not working, the door latch was difficult to operate and the door itself did not slide smoothly in the track. Trailer bounced excessively. Pickup experience was less than ideal. The driveway was completely blocked by equipment on arrival and staff were in no hurry to move it. When I went inside the person behind the desk told me she was sick and shouldn't be at work.

michael M.wait time to rent (with a reservation) was 45 mins with only two people ahead of me. the truck was not fully functional and dangerous to drive. was over charged and there were things on my bill not explained to me.
Shelby T.my car was towed from the lot after hours after i specifically asked an employee working if i could park there. he said NOTHING about a parking pass and reassured me that it would be fine there. the clerk said nothing about a parking pass either when i said i would be returning my rental after hours. i went to call the location to see if they could call the tow truck company and i was met with complete lack of sympathy for my very real negative situation. the manager said he “doesn't report to anyone†when i asked to speak to someone else and that “he isn't going to do a thing about it, honestly†complete joke of a customer service representative, absolutely unprofessional & rude. i will never recommend this uhaul location to anyone ever again and will in fact tell people to not use their services because of this

Codi M. | Overall ExperienceFor question number five, I stalled because there are some maintenance issues. The ceiling area in the storage facility needs some work as it appears to have had a lot of leaking issues for a long time. They do their best to clean it and deal with the leaks. One of the men that works with the trucks, coming and going , always made himself available to help me carry, lift, and place items in my vehicle. I never had to ask and he always made himself available. He was particularly polite, professional, helpful and kind.

I had to go to two different U-Haul facilities just to get a truck and a hitch for my car. But when I got to Charleston I met Mike. He works at the King Street U-Haul facility. He was very instrumental in making the rest of my move smooth. My daughter nickname him Magic Mike. People like Magic Mike Elijah and TJ are hard to come by.

Several others have no concept of the importance of the customer experience (they are "Debbie Downers") and the customer leaves feeling that they are not important to the company. These employees fail to understand that the money they are paid comes ONLY from the customer and that they work for the customer. They undermine the business and prevent it from standing out as a great place to do business with.

This is a busy office but I received excellent service as if I was the only customer present. I have been waiting for the opportunity to note the amazing service delivered by Latosha (excuse misspelling). After a 13 hour drive to King st and a 13 hour return home planned the next day, I hoped for anything to make unpacking the unit and packing the trailer easier. Latosha did everything to make it easier! I pulled out of the parking lot thrilled because we were in and out so much quicker (and easier )than anticipated. ¡Gracias!

I got a U-Haul from another dealer and when I pulled up at King street with my first load to store, one of the young men noticed the trailer wasn't hitched properly. He corrected the issue. I was checking out and running a little late and the staff stayed around an extra 30 minutes for me to finish. This team has excellent customer service.

Also, the recurring payment choice never worked, and each month I had to call and hope they would remove late fee.
Michael M. | Overall ExperienceThis is the only place that I know of that charges twice as much than anyone else to store items in a flood plain, Of course there is no grace period for paying the rent, even if you can't get to the storage area due to a flood. Just out of curiosity, if the storage area were flooded and stayed flooded for 6 months straight, would you still charge rent for those six months during which our items were under water? I will not be back and neither will anyone that I speak with.
Jesse Z. | Overall ExperienceThere need to be trash cans more centrally located within the Uhaul storage area itself, the fact that we had to walk all the way around the entire building to get to the dumpster was extremely time consuming and ill-efficient. Clearly others feel the same way because there was constantly trash strewn through out the corridors. There is always a super long line in the customer service area and oftentimes associates who are unwilling and uninterested in helping whatsoever. On several occasions we had issues with Carol, who was not only demeaning, and apathetic but has the customer service ability of a dirty diaper. Sadly enough, she is the Manager or Owner!! As the highest on payroll she deserves a severe demotion and someone else needs to run that place. The only thing this place has going for it is its location and proximity to downtown. That and theres a young man who works there named TJ who is the diamond in the rough at that place. He works mostly outside, in the heat, helping to return and clean out the Uhauls. Our interaction with him was the only positive experience we can glean from patronizing with this Uhaul. He deserves a raise and a promotion for maintaining a positive attitude, being helpful, dilligent, willing to go above and beyond for the customer, all amidst clearly poor conditions and management that he has to work with. I hope his spirit doesnt get broken by the terrible attitudes of his colleagues and I hope UHAUL as a company regonizes his hard work and enacts stricter guidelines for the rude "managment" and "Customer service" agent you all have employed there.
