Staff person was helpful, but there was only one person in the office to help, so needed to wait.
Michael KI was disappointed to receive the gas tank half full. That's a huge inconvenience. I loaded up right away and would have loved to get a long leg into my trip but instead I'm looking to fill up a tank within an hour of departure.

This was a new location for me because they were the only spot in Portland with a ban at the time I needed- this facility was awesome!! My new favorite and where I’ll return. ANNA TThis LOCATION is great. The UHaul app is terrible. It crashes, it stutters, it reboots, it is hugely confusing. The app is a disservice to the people who run this location. If I could only judge Uhaul by its app, I would never use it again. No matter what anyone is telling you - hear me loud and clear: Your app is terrible and is hurting your bottom line. Fix it. Do it right now or something like Uber will do it right for you.

Dasheka MI don't rent often but when I do it, I went from you guys. The only thing I didn't like is you actually had a me. Have a reference where you called one of my friends. To verify I've never heard of that before. I didn't like that part.

Mary TI was called the day before picking up my tow dolly and told that the only one available was a 2 how drive from my location and a 2 hour drive back. That was completely unacceptable. I had made this reservation a month or more in advance. I realized that I might need to pick up at a different location but this was much too far away. They ended up fixing the problem some what. I had to wait another day to have one that I could pick up closer to my home. This made me late and I lost 1 day off work because of it. You might want to know this for the future. It would be nice to get some money back. But completely up to you.

Joseph BAlmost didn't get rental because apparently someone booked the van at the same time as me, so when I showed up, at first they said the van that I booked and checked out online wasn't available, then magically was. I guess I lucked out? When I secure a vehicle online all the way past check out, I should be able to rest assured that there will be a vehicle ready. Like, people depend on these securities for very important stuff they're doing! When you get to a store and they tell you your vehicle isn't available and there isn't a replacement, it can make you freak out a little 'cause you have to totally reroute all your plans. Luckily this time I was fortunate (not sure about the other person), but that was having to go through the motions of almost not getting a vehicle, only to be saved at the end. So I did all the stress freakout for no real reason. There's almost always something buggy with the app. The poor guys at the store are overworked. And the prices are too expensive! I don't know how it goes from $19.99+mileage to $100 plus whatever gas I pumped in when I drove about 30 miles round trip.
DANIEL MExplain the check in process better when somebody books! Among 1000 other issues I’ll explain here, this is where most stemmed from. Had somebody told me prior to arriving at the location I could pre-check in and upload my drivers license etc I wouldn’t have had to stand in line for 20 mins. Regardless, that website check in experience is so bad I nearly left the store and didn’t return. After 30 mins of trying to get it to work (kept crashing, reloading pages) I had to get the staff to just check me in at the desk which took 2 minutes. Series of events to my horrible experience: 1) reserved a truck 3 weeks ago and then get a call the morning of my move that a truck isn’t available and I can wait 2 more hours or drive 13 mins one way to another location to get one (not the convenient location of the one by my house). I had people waiting to help me move that day that I had to make wait an extra hour 2) I get to the next location and there is a large line .. every person in line also was struggling with the check in process website/ app and not one was explained how it worked - delaying how we all had to check in 3) after I finally got it all sorted then the truck was fine and the return was easy, but my goodness that was the worst customer service experience ever. I truly hope somebody can sort this out. I’m so disappointed in uHaul and my friends warned me about this type of thing with them but I wanted to give them a chance…

Mitchell RGetting a reference seems like a bogus waste of time for out of state drivers. Anyone can obviously reference someone, but since people don't like to answer calls these days, it is a serious waste of time. I also booked a mobile pickup, but my order was not ready when I arrived. Very disappointing and a waste of time standing in line.
Joshua BNo gas in rental vehicle, told to go to a gas station to fill up. No gas on site. Team was helpful in doing the best they could to help me, but the equipment seems prone to sabotage by people looking to siphon gas / steal catalytic converters. This could be easily remedied with a fence, locking gas caps, and/or having gas on site.

OLISHER NI appreciate that U-Haul gave me a call the day before to clarify where to pick up my equipment and change me to a better location that had everything I needed. This saved me a lot of grief on the already stressful day of moving. The people at this location were really helpful and went above and beyond to make sure I had what I needed and that my reservation was correct.

Marcus MThis was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a business. The mobile check in felt like I was trying to get high security clearance to meet the president. The app was horrific and had tons of glitches. The folks at the store were kind but zero percent helpful with the HELL that was the mobile check in. Then the dollys I ordered were not in the truck and I still got charged. Then I go to move and GUESS WHAT!? The gas tank was on empty. Moving is hard enough, but U-Haul made this experience actual torture. I’ll never use U-Haul again.

Lee R | Overall ExperienceIt does not make sense to prefill information online only to have to repeat the same information over and over. Also having given my information online AND the giving a contact person and number as optional, I was told at 07:00 that I had to have TWO contacts that UHaul must call back at 07:00 or the rental cannot move forward. I will thoroughly research my options when I am in need in the future. To top it off the truck pulled to the right. This does not help gas mileage. Floor was dirty.
Dennis LAbsolute worst service I’ve ever had. They forgot the hand truck I ordered. Then on return they accused me of not putting enough gas in and tried to charge me for it. I checked in on the app and no where did it ask for my gas level. They were absolutely rude and accused me of lying. It wasn’t about the money it was about the principle of the matter. Every time I have been to this location there has been an issue. I rent all the time and it’s always great. This location is the worst in Portland!!

Also my original drop off / pick up times were not properly set up, and I had to scramble to fix it the day before the requested delivery. Staff at location was helpful, but the overall experience sucked.

KEVIN BWe did a quick trailer rental to pick up some furniture and the U-Haul staff made it a seamless process for a reasonable price. The equipment was easy to use and clean, and Aaron quickly hooked us up in the start and unhooked us at the end (despite the terrible weather). This is our second same-day rental from this location and both times we got done what we needed to do.
James FThe person couldn't find my name even though I had rented a van 3 seeks prior. It is also weird that you need customer photos and each time they rent. I don't like the idea of two different locations having two random photos of me. I don't think I will use uhaul again.

JENSTAR H | First ImpressionsI have this experiene each time I rent with U-Haul where I want to rent a van for a couple of hours and the attendant advises me to keep the Van for the whole 24 hour period, and frames it as a safety issue. The clerk this time told me that vans constantly get stolen from their lot and that I would be charged the entire cost fo the van if this happens. Is this true? This seems unfair, even after a self check-in. I wonder if this is true. I also wonder if this is a predatory practice, not intentionally, because it burdens the customer with a van for longer than they wanted it for fear of being charged more money, when keeping the van may result in more charges due to the possibility of damage and late return if the customer keeps the van when they don't need it. This always rubs me the wrong way. I wonder if the attendants are instructed to say this. It makes me uncomfortable and is not a good policy.

Going H | First ImpressionsStaff was rude and contradictory of each other. I had one unit closed and then was locked out of my other one through my key card. Was unable to access my stuff until they opened the next day. Was forced to rent two separate u-haul vans on separate days because the elevator was broken and no one told me i’d be unable to get my stuff. The couch did not fit through the stairwell door way. When I asked if they could do anything for the inconvenience of making me pay an extra $50 to move the rest of my stuff on a different day they said No. The girl at the front desk did not know how to operate the system and had an attitude with me until her coworker fixed it for her. There was definitely nice people who work there but there’s an overall lack of organization and training. They even gave me attitude when I went back to the office to fix my card cause I didn’t use the broken intercom which I did try!

The location was minutes from our new place, the hours were convenient, and staff were always helpful and efficient even on busy weekends when they were slammed. They went above and beyond by calling immediately when I had mistakenly left the the lock in an open position, and made sure our unit was secure until we could come fix it. When it was time to move out, there was no hassle or elaborate paperwork to fill out -- just "one and done." We would gladly use U-Haul Storage At Columbia again should the need arise.

If I could offer one note of feedback that would be helpful, it would be that it would be great if the office staff could be more available to answer phone calls. There were several times that I needed to speak to someone specifically at that location and it's almost impossible to reach somebody there. If nobody answers at that location you're automatically transferred to the 800 number and that wasn't helpful for the things that I needed. That left me having to call repeatedly until somebody would answer and I could avoid the transfer. Otherwise we were very pleased with our experience and will of course return to U-Haul in the future.

Samuel W | First ImpressionsOut of all the years I have been renting U-Hauls never have I received a U-Haul with only a quarter tank of gas they've always been at least 3/4 and when I asked about it I was told that that's how it was returned. That's unacceptable and they knew it. How far can I go on a quarter tank of gas given the prices nowadays if I'm expected to move way across town I have to stop and fill up before I even get to my destination. I feel like I should be compensated for this. My rental should be free. And I called around to other U-Haul rental places and they all said they they sent out their trucks with nothing less than a half a tank of gas at minimum and also keeping the oil change and up-to-date in the trucks helps the truck. Instead it drives slow and sluggish using more gas. 5035365735

The drop-off location storage unit took some back-and-forth communication to figure out how to receive our entry code, but once that was sorted out, it was very convenient and easy to navigate.

There were dropped balls from another facility at the last minute after a 3000 cross country drive in a 26 foot truck. We had made reservations a week in advance for a big unit to store everything in the 26 ft truck we were driving from the east coast. We arrived as planned and met our hired workers at the facility to unload. However the Milwaukee,Oregon facility on Mcgloughlin blvd manager told us they did not have our unit available nor any extras with no explanation as to why as a matter of fact he was extremely rude and stressed and short with us and dismissed us…. It was late and we we were exhausted. I called corporate immediately and we had to keep the truck over night. The next morning Monique called back and immediate went into action. She planned everything and problem solved and rectified the situation . During the most outrageous time in the world (a pandemic) and not to mention there was a major total renovation at this property at Columbia Blvd uhaul in PDX . I was treated with compassion and respect and always very professionally. If there was ever a situation or problem I always was able to reach out to Monique and she would manage her team accordingly. I have had so many personal issues since my transition to Portland with the unexpected COVID pandemic . These situations affected me personally and professionally as well as financially. Not once did Monique or her team ever make me feel anything but valuable as a client. Monique has been extremely professional and showed extreme humanity through her strict diligence laced with upmost compassion and empathy all with a direct and firm respect for her guidelines. I’m so thankful for Monique making my experience wonderful despite all the chaos involved. Also in closing there was a new manager named Aimee at Columbia Blvd store who was extremely professional and kind and definitely attentive in doing her best to answer all questions and help me move out properly all while multitasking with other clients and employees who all needed her attention. She did it with a smile and great time management and a great girl by the name of Alesha next to her. My overalls experience has been met with great respect and gratitude for the team at Columbia Blvd under Monique’s leadership. I felt valued as a client and was appreciative for the grace given during a major transition in my life during my departure from the units at UHAUL.. I will always be grateful. Thank you..

The pathway leading to the u-haul storage is busted and makes it extremely difficult pushing storage carts in and out (your items may fall off and become damaged) lighting could definitely use improvement and there’s barely any parking seeing 9 or so spots and at least 3 always seem to have a u-haul van in them that’s not in use. When I was late on my payment I called when I finally could make a payment and when I went to access my storage unit it still had a delinquent lock 12 days later and the employees working there all seemed to have attitudes and tried to get snarky and says they remove locks when people pay (which I had many days following my needing access to my unit which put me out more time than I anticipated) all around would not recommend for anyone looking for a good storage space experience definitely take notes from your competitors they’re doing things right. DO BETTER!!!

I came by at 7:03 pm on 7/10/21 and because of this was denied access. Someone had a door propped open with a fire extinguisher so I was able to enter the building, this is obviously a safety issue this site needs to address. However they likely did it because after 7 pm their access code did not allow them to enter through the slider or door.

When first receiving my truck and trailer, I had to travel more than an hour outside of my desired pick up location. When picking up the truck, which was at a different location as the trailer, there was no Staff at the location and I had to run through the pick up procedures with someone over the phone. I had ordered a dolly and furniture blankets to come with the truck. I was told over the phone “yeah so we don’t have any of those, so you can call another dealer to try and find some”. Once I drove the truck to the location of the trailer and hooked it up it was realized that the trailer lights did NOT WORK. The process of fixing this issue caused my wife and I to delay our international travels by an entire day. After 3 hours of being on the road, the ENGINE LIGHT came on and the truck began to OVERHEAT! Roadside assistance was contact but did not respond. After checking the truck engine I found there to be NO COOLANT. I then had to buy 2 1 GALLON containers of coolant to reach the full line. After reaching our destination uhaul N Columbia Blvd. Portland OR, we were greeted by LAVINA who was the only helpful staff member we were in contact with. Our trip was a disaster and at times we felt unsafe and unsure of if the truck was safe to drive. Through contacting the company via 18004684285 I have not had any explanation of the unprofessional nature of this company

I came here because the reviews were good so I definitely hoped for better.

She is a top notch employee which makes this review unfortunate .However, her new male employee (heavy set with glasses) was slightly rude, a bit abrasive and his way of expressing “the way it is” was offensive. It was as if my business was in question or not wanted. I was told over the phone (great customer service btw) first month free if I rent a 1-way Uhaul and in tandem with my storage rental. When I showed up in advance see the unit and do paperwork at Columbia I was told I do not get the first month free since I didn’t show up with the moving truck (scheduled with a cc for later that day) first. That seems to be a trust issue with bad customers. I have a history of positive business already in the Uhaul system so to not receive the offer I was told, even those apparently it will be the second month IF I show up with a rented truck for drop off. Then, when I picked up my Uhaul as scheduled later and told the Clackamas location manager he said the guy not honoring the deal (at Columbia) without the moving truck in my possession was ridiculous. However, he then told me that the truck I was renting couldn’t be a 1-way because Clackamas owns the truck. I was never told by phone reservation or Columbia about any possibility that I would incur more miles to return back to Clackamas because they own that particular moving van. In short, my plans to move got set back 4-6 rearranging my move because of the above situations there were more potential out of pocket to rent both the storage space and Uhaul. Frankly, I would have cancelled if it wasn’t for needing to move quickly and my cc already used for reservations with Uhaul. Not a memorable experience at all.

The only thing I would change is when you walk in the storage area it smell like a nursery with all the baby things in front door area. But the service is amazing.

The woman working the desk when I went back was very dismissive and condescending. It was obvious it was frustrating for her to have to answer any of my questions or to give me any additional information except a "yes" or "no." (The man working with her was from another facility and not familiar with this one, although he was the one helping me). We finished the paperwork, and he told me where I was supposed to go. I asked about the free lock I was supposed to get for registering online, and the woman flippantly said, "It's in the unit," as if "Duh, how did we not know that?" I wasn't familiar with the building or how to get in, but they gave me a card and sent me on my way. I drove over and tried one door. The door opened without the key, so once inside I tried to find my way around. I was lost and confused. I walked back to the main office. The guy told me, no, it was another entrance. The woman said rudely to him, "Give her a map," as if he were stupid. I asked him to please walk out and SHOW me the correct entrance. He kindly did. I then walked back to my car and drove to another entrance. The door opened without the key, but I was still lost. Somehow I found my way to my unit upstairs, but the door wouldn't open. At this point I was ready to cancel the whole thing and just ask for my money back. I was almost in tears. Why couldn't they have just walked me over and shown me around this facility? I went back downstairs, and there was another woman unloading her car. I asked her if she was familiar with how this worked, and she took me back and helped me get in the door to my unit (the door was "locked" with a plastic tie that ideally needed scissors to cut off; the other customer tried using her key to "cut" the tie. After 5 minutes, she was able to get it off. We opened the door, and there was no lock inside. I walked BACK to the main facility, and the man gave me a lock. Then I went back to the unit to unload boxes from my car. The entire experience was upsetting and frustrating. The U-Haul workers both needed to learn customer service skills. The unit is fine, and I am happy with that, but that rudeness affected me for the rest of the day.

lawrence h | Overall ExperienceThe ramp coming out of the storage facility closest to Columbia Blvd. is quite steep and a couple times we even lost control of the furniture cart and had it go down the ramp by itself and some items fell off. Also, the parking/loading area near the storage facility is too tight: the spaces are small and there's not much room to load and often the spots are full of cars from other uhaul customers who are not loading/unloading to the storage units.

Had to visit office for help. They gave me a paper map--so not at all contact free. 2) We moved a completely full 15' truck--furniture, boxes. The access to my unit was up a winding ramp and through 2 regular size doors which were difficult at best to prop open. The location has many dock doors, all locked and unavailable for customer use (I was told by office). Told it was a "liability issue". Moving up that ramp was a bigger liability issue IMO. Took 2 hours to load truck for long distance move and 4 hrs to unload to storage. THE GOOD: 1) Staff was friendly. 2) Unlimited, free use of moving "carts". 3) Building & unit were clean and well-maintained 4) Free filtered water available in office. (No bottled water available for purchase). BOTTOM LINE: It would have been much easier to have access through dock doors. I mean, what's the point of their existence?
