The experience was ok. Nothing special. But the truck was not clean. I reported it and took a photo. When I returned it I marked it was not cleaned and I was charged $25 extra. I tried to call and the wait time was 45 minutes so I chose to go online and use the live chat but no one answered me. So the location was ok but the system is not!!!

That was the worst experience I have ever had. Truck was not clean, the lady that process my payment, she was speaking with phone all the time and didn't check the gas level well. She put the wrong milage also wrong gas level on system, that's why the system charged me more 50$. I will speak with my lawyer about that, I have photos of gas level also milage, I paid 320$ for rent a car only for 15 hours. We will see what we can do about it. And I never recommend this company to any of my friends

This was a horrible experience. First, I reserved a 15” truck. The location called me to say they didn't have that truck (then why let me book it???). We got a 10” truck at another location, Livingstone in Toronto. When I got there, they had double booked the truck. I was told “nothing is available, we can't help you”. WTF? Eventually, after arguing for 20mins we were given a truck. This delay caused me to lose time on my moving window (only 2 hours provided). The truck, by the way, had less than 1 quarter of a tank, and I have no doubt this truck was reserved for someone else. The other items I ordered, including 2 dolleys and 1 furniture cover, were purchased but not in the truck when I opened it. Again, WTF? I'm sure I'll still be charged as well. Overall horrible service. I'll never use U-Haul for ANYTHING ever again.

The truck was not very clean at all. No garbage, but not clean. The agent working did not listen to repeated attempts telling him that the km's listed in the pre check did not match that of the truck. I told him numerous times before i left and then again when i returned. He assured me everything would be sorted out and it would be fine. It was not and I was charged double the km's. I have before and after pictures as well.

This was the best U-Haul experience I have ever had. Bahaa was more supportive to my needs and went way beyond and couldn't have done it without him. As long as I live I will only rent from him. This man is a class act and would highly recommend him to anyone.

I can't believe that I am typing yet another review for a company that continues to disappoint me. From the initial booking to shitstorm of events that followed, if I could give this company and my experience an actual rating it would be "AWFUL". I booked my moving truck 2 months in advance to avoid complications during an already stressful moving day, to be called a week out from my rental date and told that not only did I have to pick-up from a different location, that I could not do a 1-way rental. We moved out of the city, which means my partner had to drive the moving truck 2 hours back to the city to return it...which not only means our gas cost doubled, but we had to afford the gas to get back home in our personal vehicle. This was only the first issue of many. When we showed up to pick-up the truck, our rental agreement wouldn't go through on the system so I was forced to contact head office myself, while waiting in a dilapidated "office" in the cold. This took over an hour to resolve and after taking the the regional manager, we could finally take the truck off of the lot. I was promised a refund after I was charged full price (refund STILL has not been issued), and now I have to make yet another call to u-haul to explain the situation for another time. I am furious thinking about my experience and the fact I have to waste even more of my time resolving an issue that the regional manager said he would resolve himself. When we finally got to the truck, it was absolutely filthy and littered with garbage. I must be absolutely crazy to keep renting moving vehicles from this company simply because it's affordable. This will no longer be the reason I rent from U-haul, as I will never give this shit company another cent of my money. I highly doubt that this message will be received by an actual human as I was told it would be, and am in disbelief that I took the time to write this review. U-haul, you suck.

What can be improved is the level of gas that the truck goes out with. I was told 1/4 tank but it was less than 1/4 of a tank. Trucks should not go out with less than 1/2 a tank in my opinion.

For some reason we were charged $20 for returning the truck after hours even though it was due back 9 a.m. the next morning. It was a snowy day but there was no washer fluid. I informed the employee but he didnt do anything about it. After returning, when i got the receipt, it said i signed up for safemove. I specifically said no when i made the reservation and when i was checking in with the employee. I still got charged for it. Bad experience overall.

To run a Uhaul franchise you must operate out of an existing business. This location was set up to run out of Shawarma Palace but Shawarma Palace no longer exists. The business is run out of a tractor trailer in a parking lot with stairs that are steep, dangerous and without a handrail to get into the « office ». The business / facility itself is operating under a shady shell and so too are the business practices. We waited standing in line behind many other customers in the tractor trailer with the door open in the freezing cold…no waiting room with chairs. When we got to the desk for processing we were sent many text messages we had to respond to immediately to upload info about our drivers licences. At the same time they emailed me a contract that was different than the arrangements I made on the phone when I made the reservation. The series of texts we had to respond to immediately and the simulataneous email with an altered contract functioned like a shell game. I was checking the texts while on site and it wasn't until many hours later at the end of the day that I noticed the email with the surprise contract. I had rented a Uhaul van in another city one month earlier and had a good experience so I wasn't suspecting that this franchise would try to cheat me. Looking at the altered contract it occurred to me that they might in the end try to charge me triple what I had agreed to. Not only did the franchise owner never answer the phone number he included on the contract, but Uhaul customer service under the corporate umbrella was only minimally helpful / accountable. When we were given the keys we were told respond to a text before leaving to confirm a number of things about the state of the van. By this time we are already behind schedule due to the long wait to get processed. I am sure many customers don't take the time to confirm the state of the vehicle from the many photos because they just need to get on their way…plus there is the fact that it is not possible to confirm an aerial view of the outside roof of the van. When I started the van I noticed it said that the 2 back tires need air. I started to make my way back to the  Â« office » but it was locked. There was one employee in the parking lot and I asked him where the guy was who gave me the keys. He said he was in the house, presumably the building that once housed Shawarma Palace, and would be back in 5 minutes. We waited. He did not come back. I guess this is why Uhaul wants the franchise owners to operate out of an existing business. If Shawarma Palace still existed, there would still be an employee available to help. Uhaul Shawarma Palace is the place to go if you want to engage in a shell game with a con artist while trying to rent a vehicle to accomplish a task you can't likely postpone when you get there and see that things look questionable. It is the place for you if you want a shady rental experience where you may have surprise charges you did not agree to, in a vehicle that is not clean and may not be safe, from a dealer who does not answer his phone and locks up before you leave the parking lot, running out of a tractor trailer rather than the business he is supposed to be running out of, in a facility that is unsafe in so many ways. Visibly the stairs of the tractor trailer do not meet standards we would expect in a developed country, let alone Toronto, but I have to question many other things about the facility. Does the electrical connection meet standards for operating a business in Toronto ? Was the electrical connection created by a licensed electrician? If you think that because this is a Uhaul franchise a certain standard is automatically guaranteed, then you may be disappointed. I shared my concerns with Uhaul, they gave me a reference number for my complaint, they said they would investigate and get back to me and a week later I have not heard from anyone. Their interventions may have caused the dealer to change the amount he posted to my credit card (still more than what I was told when I made the booking, but much better than the amount he originally posted, and at least there weren't subsequent unwarranted charges which I suspect may have been planned by the franchise dealer and which reviews show others have been subject to). I have spent as much time on the phone with Uhaul and my credit card company as I did driving 750 km there and back and moving the furniture. This franchise should be shut down, if not by Uhaul, then by some government regulator. There are some reviews that demonstrate others have had experiences like me from Uhaul Shawarma Palace, but there are some puzzling positive reviews. I question whether or not they are legitimate. Uhaul does require that you submit your contract number so they can send you a link to write a review. I suspect that somehow this shady dealer has found a loophole that allows him to gather false positive reviews. He could change the email address on the file, just like he changes other details that lead to escalated costs, so that he or people he knows will get the email to submit a positive review. Uhaul should look up the contracts from some of those positive reviews and call the customer to verify that they did have a good experience and that they did submit the review. Perhaps they should do a forensic audit on the changes made in the database after the reservation is made…changes to details that lead to increased charges to the customer and changes to contact information. If the contact information is changed, it would then be necessary to use the original contact information to verify customer experience and the legitimacy of the positive reviews.

Staff was giving out false information. (Stated that the truck rental rate was not for the day and was by the hour) Equipment rentals associated with each truck should already be prepared and ready before the pick up to save time. The heater wasn't working. I saw another truck need to be jump started, which then delayed my pick up. These trucks should tested at the beginning of the shift to ensure they're working. Issues with efficiency needs to be improved.

I'm writing a formal complaint against UHaul. First, I was never notified about the pickup location change. Then, when I arrived at the location I've previously booked, the employee was 30 min late (location was 320 Queen St E). Then he was not helpful and simply informed me they had no trucks for me, and my truck was in a location 30min from there. I had to take an Uber (paid 21 dollars extra). Then because of this terrible mess from UHaul, I've lost the condo elevator booking, so everything was a waste of time. I want my money back.

I have no problem with location and friendly folks that I quit enjoyed chatting with. My issue is the unprofessional treatment I waited 30-40 minutes on hold. To be hung up on before I was done asking my questions to to straitened out my bill. That has confusion around. I will drive up to place I rented from to speak with them. 40 minutes waiting on phone to be hung up on. Is brutal.

Hi Vipeshan, I am following up as mentioned. I received two charges of ~$64 on my credit card yesterday, without a final receipt. Please let me know when I can expect those final calculations. In addition, the amounts do not seem correct. I only drove it about 34 km on Saturday (I took a final picture when dropping off the van and the km were at 18,241) so my total charge should be no more than $45 ($20 base fee + ~$24 for distance covered). I have no idea how Uhaul is charging me that amount. That being said, my ask is that those fees are completely waived (in addition to receiving a credit for the $50 guarantee), I receive a ~$10 credit for my gas expense (happy to provide receipts), and compensation of $45 for additional costs incurred (see explanation below). I think this is completely reasonable given the experience I had on Saturday â€" please escalate to whoever needs to be looped in to ensure this happens. If you can provide additional compensation of $50 or a future credit for the stress caused, that would be great as well but my hopes are pretty low given my experience. My rationale for this is below: Context: I have been meticulously planning this move for a few weeks and deliberately chose the middle of the month given that the beginning/end of month is crazy when it comes to moving in the city. I had to book two service elevators, coordinate with my father, sister and three friends and two condo buildings in preparation â€" every one of those people was able to do their part except U-haul. It's not only my time that was wasted and stress levels that were escalated as a result, but five other people. It is unbelievable that a company who's motto is “To provide a better and better product and service to more and more customers at a lower and lower cost" provided one of the worst moving experiences I have ever had. Clearly, Uhaul has cut costs beyond what is reasonable and put their employees and customers in extremely stressful situations as a result. I also cannot imagine Uhaul truly believes that they are upholding this value mentioned on their website based on the stress their employee was under at the 231 Livingstone Avenue branch: “U-Haul is a family-oriented company that highly values its team members and treats each team member like family.” This is the timeline of my day: After coordinating with friends and family all morning, packing the remaining essentials, 15 minutes before my pick up time of 12 pm on the 19th, I receive a call from U-Haul saying that I have to drive 30 minutes further to pick up my cargo van â€" there is no other option (no offer to provide a pick up truck or a larger as an alternative). This is in gridlock traffic downtown Toronto while I have a service elevator booked for 1 pm at my current building. If I had received that call even one hour or two hours before, I could have made arrangements but 15 minutes before is unacceptably short notice before someone is about to do one of the most stressful things they will do all year. I speak with three different U-haul reps who are unable to find something closer, despite there being multiple Uhaul locations listed online that were closer than the 231 Livingstone Avenue location. I then inform my three friends, father, sister and the two concierges about the situation and explain I will be late. Everybody is able to accommodate and my condo building extends the service elevator timeslot. My friends park their cars and go wait in a coffee shop ($45 in charges for parking downtown and three coffees) â€" this is an added expense for them that I would like to compensate as they had to wait for me to pick up the U-haul at the new location. We eventually get to the U-haul location and find out that people from all over the city are being redirected to this location â€" this leads me to believe that what you and the other representatives are saying is untrue. All of you blamed another customer for not dropping my vehicle off in time and that's why I am facing this inconvenience. This is problematic for a few reasons: • First, as mentioned above, it seems to be untrue â€" this typically quiet location is having customers redirected there all morning. It clearly is not just one late customer and I do not appreciate being misled as a customer. Beyond that, the short templated email I received confirming a $50 credit is also extremely frustrating in the middle of such a stressful experience. • Second, blaming another customer as the reason why a new customer has to suffer is a terrible business practice. Customers can be late, that's normal. U-haul, being a logistics company, should have back up vehicles on site or should coordinate to at least meet me half way. I could not imagine a bank telling a customer we can't loan you money because another customer did not pay back their loan or a restaurant saying we cannot serve you dinner because another customer broke their plates/cutlery. They budget for this and I would expect a multi-national like U-haul would do the same. Once we get to the new pick up location â€" the experience there is a terrible. An employee who is overworked is having to coordinate with multiple drivers dropping off vehicles and picking them up in an unshoveled lot. A truck is stuck for about 20 minutes in the snow/ice and so he is trying to shovel, push and help other customers out. My 65 year old father and me end up having to help push this truck out of the snow so the employee can then help us. None of the trucks are cleared and are covered in snow, and so I am preparing to clear that off one of these 12 foot trucks. It takes about 35 minutes before we get on the road and the only reason is because another truck is dropped off, so the customer before us is able to take that one (which is odd given that based on the rationale above, I would expect that truck that was dropped off to be for a specific future customer). Anyway, I do not know if the other truck ever made it out of the snow. Without any resources and being in a rush, I realize the van is not properly cleaned. I open the van's sun visor and a used COVID mask falls on my lap (I can share a picture) â€" that's pretty gross and unsanitary. Anyway, I'm in such a rush and under so much stress at this point that I dust it off and drive. We eventually get on the road, my friends end up having to wait almost an hour and a half before we can start moving. In summary, please review this case and due to appropriate due diligence â€" I am sure there are things the team can implement so no other customer has to experience this. I feel as though Uhaul has strayed very far from its core values and the principles listed on the website and hopefully, they can make some changes. U-haul turned what should have been a seamless experience into a nightmare. I expected to be compensated for the following: - All charges waived - $50 credit for your guarantee - $10 for gas (keep in mind, I had to drive further because of the re-routing, I should not incur this cost) - $45 for additional expenses my friends incured - $50 as goodwill for the stress caused/time wasted I am happy to discuss over the phone as well. Firstly, I only was told the day before picking up the cargo van that the pickup location was on the other side of Toronto. The one-way I had booked and was promised the day previous was not there. I had to take a truck I needed to return back to Toronto from Waterloo the next day. Though the reduced rate was acceptable, the run around is not. I was given the key after an hour of negotiating only to have to find my own truckamong 25. Finally, my assigned vehicle was 2 blocks away on the street. The location was muddy and icy and the stairs to the trailer is missing a step. I have not receive my cash deposti back, being told that would happen at a later date. I will not use U-HAul ever again. And I will discourage everyone from using U-Haul.

Uhaul had to reschedule our pick-up across the city to this location after the first truck location was completely snowed in - no shovels, personnel, etc there to assist. At the new pick-up location (Shawarma Palace), luckily there was an in-person pick-up. Equipment was clean but truck was again stuck in a snowbank and was not cleaned off at all from snow and ice. If we hadn't brought our own ice scraper, we would not have been able to clear off the windshield. The gentleman at the pick-up location did help us dig out the truck, but he did not have an ice scraper. Pick-up was on Saturday and snow/ice had been there since snowfall on the previous Monday.

When I arrived at the U-Haul location, the temperature was around -19c. The administrator was very efficient. He quickly did the check-in and delivered the truck. I had the same experience when I did the check-out. Overall, I was very impressed with the check-in and check-out process I had at this location. I would highly recommend them with no hesitation.
