I was literally â€œrobbedâ€ when I returned the key off-hours. When I was going to drop my key to the key box, a guy ran to me, wearing similar Uhaul orange jacket, and said he worked for uhaul and took the key from me and just ran away. He apparently waited here for couples of hours for victims like me. The security is so terrible that I cannot safely return my key. This experience was a nightmare.YIJIE H.
I was guaranteed a pick-up at the Berkeley Gilman location on the website. I ended up having to drive to Oakland. Gas in tank was over 1/8 of a tank less than on contract and employee told me it was fine to drop off after hours without mentioning $20 drop-off feel. Additionally, the location services on the mobile web doesn't work==I'm not just saying this; I do it for a living and know how it should have looked on iOS mobile web had it been done properly. I doubt anyone's reading this, but I'll just pay someone on Thumbtack to haul my stuff next time instead of using uhaul and it feels good to vent.David M.

This place charged me and extra fee for gas. I received the tank to 3/4 of its total capacity and I returned it with a little more of gas, then he charged me for extra money because I dropped the car over night. I am filling a claim for this charge. Also, he charged me an extra $20 which we clearly discuss that he was not going to do it because I picked the truck at 7:30 pm, and he told to return it before 9 am of the next day, I returned at 10 pm and still he charged me an extra $20. I had trouble with checking the equipment back in using my phone. The instructions kept telling me to turn on location to share, which was turned on. I could never get past that point for the check in. It was very frustrating. I suggest having IT look into why it doesn't work. Also no local number provided on my receipt so I didnt know how to contact them. I finally found the number online but no one answered and the voice mail was full to leave any messages.Francisco C.

The manager or whatever his role was at the location was a complete and total asshole. When I returned the van he got a shitty attitude and started complaining that I brought the van back dirty. I told him I was sorry, I thought it was like renting a car and it would be cleaned before it was rented to another customer. This asshole starts in about it was my responsibility to clean the van and did I read the contract. I told him no, but did you explain I would need to clean the cargo bay of the van before I returned it? He certainly didn't ha r any problems telling me to bring it back with as much gas as I left with. I asked him what I neeesed to do to satisfy the terms of the agreement, this jackass goes and gets a blower and holds out his hand with the key and says take it out the lot and clean it. I almost threw the key back at him and walked away but I'm not that type of person. I used the lower and blew the dust out of the back of the van, only to have this guy tell me I didn't return rhe car with as much gas as I left with. Never mind I returned it with more gas than I left with, I took the van to the nearest fast station and put on even more gas. I don't know what kind of ship you people are running, but having a butthole like this guy represent your company is bad for business. I will NEVER rent from U haul again in my life.KENNETH W.

Location has no working phone. Attendant was not present during business ours when I can to extend my rental I waited for 30mins. Office open but gate locked. When I returned the next day, he said he was out for coffee or something. Open hours are open hours, you need a coffee break, leave a note! Get someone to cover you. Movin is stressful. I don't have time to wait for someone during open hours that is supposed to be there. Also, very rude when explaining extra charges. Overall location needs new management or some quality control. The whole uhaul subcontractor business model really shits on customer service.Steven G.

Great neighborhood pick up location, convenient and clean. This location has good hours and attentive staff. Book online (easy!) -they can be a bit hard to reach by phone due to busy location and prioritizing in-person customers.Morgana V.

There were several charges added to my bill that are unsubstantiated. I was charged $14.00 for SafeMove coverage and I was not asked if I wanted it or asked to authorize it. It was added without me knowing. I was charged $8.25 for gas even if I returned it at the same level of gas as when I took it out (I added $14.00 of gas). I was charged a $50.00 cleaning fee even if I returned the truck clean and in the same condition as which I took it out.Juan R.

The staff member who processed my rental was very friendly and helpful. For this reason, I'd recommend the location to a friend but with the caveat that I experienced a late opening (I had a 9:00 appt when the lot was to open and the staff was about 10 minutes late); and that when I arrived at 1:00pm to drop off the truck, the office was closed. I tried to follow the directions for dropping off the truck when office unattended, but the instructions asked that I drop the truck off on the lot. I couldn't because the gate was closed (and someone dropped their truck off but blocked the entrance to the lot). I waited for 45 minutes before the staff arrived, and a customer before me said he waited at least an hour and 45 minutes. The staff had a doctor's appointment over what I assume was his lunch hour, and the appt went longer than expected. One other comment - I called UHaul to inquire about what I do, and had the most painful experience being on hold for what I was first told would be 20 minutes, and after 25 min on hold, the staff member arrived so I hung up. What was painful was the message repeated every 15 seconds something about "if you're calling to pay an invoice, please go to your online account...." How is it possible that same message plays over and over for a caller who is on hold for 20 minutes?!! It was awful.NINA G.

This facility was in a not-so-great neighborhood, behind a gate. There was no one there when I arrived, and a crowd of us waiting outside until a guy drove up and opened the gate. Then I had to leave the UHaul on the street because they closed at 4 on a Friday.Brittany B.

Very upsetting that I dropped off the rental at 3pm and they were supposed to be open but they were locked up. Called U-Haul direct to report that I dropped off the rental. I was told but Crystal that shw would note that I returned the rental and that once the dealer opened I would get my receipt via email. Did not receive the email until 3:39pm and was surprised to find a cleaning fee of $25.00. There may have been some dust in the rear but I returned it cleaner than vans I've picked up prior to even using them. I tried calling customer service ar U-Haul but after waiting 40 minutes on hold I gave up. Will try again tomorrow.Steven W.
Be open @ the time of appointment. Be clear that the truck was empty of gas . Include cost of cleaning on blankets when returned. Out ur control the fact that ur website wasn't running properly @ any of the 3 sites i used. Dap Oakland, Alabama street, Redlands . The agent Pete @ Outer Highway 10 was surprised we were turning in a truck, as the email info was given. Nor did he give me a receipt . Sadly I've used UHaul for years w/ no problem. The outside of the truck was very dirty, including the windows and mirrors. In order to see well enough to drive safely, I needed to take time before I began my trip to clean both the outside and inside of the windows and the rearview mirrors.LAINE F.

The person in charge was not at the check in desk when I arrived, and a line had formed before they showed up. This person made me complete the check-in process all over again, even though I had already completed it online. They also marked the gas tank as filled to 3/4 on my contract when it was only filled at 5/8â€"Â I took a picture to show that they wrote it down wrong. When I returned the truck, staff were nowhere to be found, so I dropped my key in the drop box. As I was walking away this same person yelled at me for not finding them and asked me to come back so they could look over the contract again, which I did. It was just a generally uncomfortable, chaotic experience.Emily B.
My appointment was at 2 pm. I got there at 2:30 and the shop was closed. I couldn't access my rental until the owner returned at 3pm. I had to call Uhaul corporate to find out why he was closed and they called the regional supervisor who tried calling the owner - with no success. We just had to sit there and wait. When the owner returned, he was rude, didn't apologize and said i was supposed to be there at 2pm. I said YOUR SHOP IS SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL 4!!! The UHAUL attendant at the store said the place closed at 8PM but when I went to return the truck at 6 PM the place was closed. They close at noon. I was charged for mobile return and I want my money back.Crystin J.

There was 1 attendant and seemed overwhelmed. There's no real indication of what's needed day of from the backend or Uhauls confirmation emails. There's no clear instructions from arrival, collecting equipment, and returning equipment. There's no indication of hours, even if it's a partner site Uhaul needs to take responsibility of providing thorough details on every aspect of the rental process. Even the follow up from the Uhaul office operator to explain my option for return vehicle to different city wasn't available left me wondering in the phone call what I need to do. The operator or agent didn't feel the need to answer my questions, wasn't that helpful I had to guide her to help me understand the instructions and details for this partner site. I'd rate the entire experience 2/5 from beginning to end. Ultimately this rests in Uhauls hands to elevate the customer experience and over preparing the user. Also the mobile option isn't that compatible with web browsers and doesn't effectively work for checkin or check out. Maybe try an app!NICHOLAS S.

The proprietor was late to open and was also not present for my return. I had to wait outside the location for twenty five minutes to return the truck.DAVID M.
Truck smelled like cigarettes. Took 20 minutes to pick up because too many customers and only one person. The attendant gave me one contract, then switched it for another one and a different truck. I returned the truck before the published closing time, but no one was there. I dropped the keys off and left. I was then charged for an after hour return, even though I didn't return after hours. I was also charged for refueling, even though I clearly refilled the tank to the level it was at when I picked it up. I was also charged $14 for a â€œsales itemâ€ with no explanation. I called and emailed, including a photo of the fuel gauge and gas receipt, and so far no response or credit to my card. Unacceptable.William C.
