While the staff were very friendly and helpful, the facility is very run down and difficult to maneuver a truck and trailer combination. Too tight. I will emphasize again the staff were great.Gregory K.
Be on site when a vehicle is being checked out, keep vehicles up to safety standards by doing regular maintenance and making sure all lights work upon renting out vehicles. Also they need to clean the van in between individuals, my van was covered in soda/drink looking spills when I checked it out and then I was charged a cleaning fee, which I have never been charged because I return equipment as I received it.Angelina G.
The online uhaul portal is a mess. I returned truck after hours and spent from 11:15 pm to 12:56 am trying to get the correct odometer reading. I was charged $20 for after hour check/next day check in. They knew I was returning late and the only reason it stretched into the next day is because the online app is not user friendly. I would not recommend uhaul if you have to use online app. This location does not have a secure after hour drop box and the mail slot at another door does not appear to be for uhaul. As a last resort I tried calling the 24 hour uhaul hot line and had to wait 20 minutes for a representative that was not helpful with the location I was at. I think it was unfair that I was charged the $20 additional fee. It should not have taken 1 hour and 45 minutes to log on coupled with the under staffed uhaul customer service support or lack thereof. Use Penske or budget - much better drop off process!!!David A.

I ordered 2 dozen blankets but the check in person only had 10. That person explained that they did not have the blankets so all I had to do was tell the people that check me in and they would call them to let them know. I requested 3 times to write it down or mark it and the check in person refused.Tyson F.

The office opened a half hour late, not only that but I was not aware when I rented the truck that I would have to pick it up somewhere other than Port Royal location. Out storage unit was in Springfield and the extra time spent getting the truck really hurt our ability to move safely. The movers had to rush and unload in one day instead of having two days as planned and so now everything is in a pile in the basement instead of being placed in the rooms where it belongs. The gentleman at Afford was very nice but I was not happy with the experience this time due to the delay. U-haul has always been good to deal with but if I had known ahead of time about the pick up time and location I would have done things differently. Had very bad experience with U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer, 11410 N Shore Dr, Reston, VA 20190. Reservation was 8/22, but for some reasons, the order was totally messed up, therefore, the reservation was cancelled when pick up, that was not professional way on handling business and not acceptable in any way. I learned a new definition of U-Haul reservation, which is not hold accountable at all.TONG C.

The guy running this is super creepy. He came out with his belt half off, half putting it on like his pants were off. He didn't want me to use the uhaul app but to use his system for checking in and payment. Took phone calls in the middle of talking to me. Stood really close during a global pandemic. 100% will never, ever use this service again and will warn everyone I can to stay far, far away from this creepy, sketchy guy.Stephanie W.

I had originally reserved to a different location before last minute they transferred me to this location . I did early check in but nothing worked as I got there . So I had to go in .. the guy took so long . Was a little frustrated ! Didn't know I had a hold deposit either .Joy S.

I was charged a cleaning fee even though I returned the truck clean with pictures for proof. Had to spend 40min on the phone with uhaul customer service to deal with that. Might be better not to deal with this particular subcontractor if you need to return the truck after hours (when the office is closed).Chakupalesa M.
I returned the van 4:30pm. My receipt says I returned it at 7:20pm. When I returned the van the man who originally gave me the keys took a look around the van and said I should've swept the inside of the van. I told him I would sweep it (even though the van was clean.) He said that it was too late and that he wouldn't charge me the full cleaning fee. I suspected this was a trick he used to increase rental fees. I did not protest because I was in a hurry to leave. I was afraid of catching or spreading the coronavirus and he was coughing without covering his mouth. I was happy that the location was near me but I will never go there again.Tarvor L.

The issue was more with the U-Haul app that made it much harder to obtain the vehicle, and would have just been easier getting it all done at the facility. Further the COVID outbreak made it much more difficult to get the vehicle back in a proper manner. I hope U-Haul would consider a financial break on all those additional days the van went unused but could not be returned due to the mandatory lockdown protocol.Anoosha N.
When I arrived door no one was in office or responded to calling out for assistance. Had to call number for the business (it was 10:30 AM). When phone rang on the counter 2 men from a back room came in to the office. As soon as turn in of trailer was completed, I left the building but went back immediately as I had a question. You stole my money and lied to me about the cost of the truck, saying its $29 then charging me $129 saying the $100 is a deposite fee. Then never recieving my money. This location was a secondary business for the owner who also runs an automotive repairs shop. Although he was very courteous and helpful once he could get to me, the lot he operates from is small and cluttered with other non U-haul vehicles making it hard to bet the trailer I was renting off the premises.Alan L.

Running lights on trailer did not work and your employee said numerous times well they worked earlier. Do you want to take it or not?? There were no other trailers at this location and i made reservations well in advance. He was completely unprofessional and putting my life and other drivers on road at risk did not matter to him whatsoever. $376 total cost for sub par equipment is ridiculous! When I dropped off trailer in Gainesvillle i was told it would have been $46 from Gainesvillle to Fairfax!!Jeanette R.
Had to search the premises for someone, even though I had talked to the owner 15 min earlier to inform of drop off. Yard was very cramped creating traffic issues. Very large potholes. Left without a receipt since I was told he could not print from his phone. Unsatisfying.Phillip O.

I would not recommend this company to anybody. My reservation was not in the location that I select in the computer. the truck had problem with the direction, you had to hold the wheel all the time, this was very dangerous to drive. the customer service very poor, I could not believe this was happening in America.Jose M.
Be more specific with rates. I asked several times what my rate was gonna be per mile after my 30 mile contract. The salesman gave me a price ranging from $.49 to $1.29. When I asked which is was gonna be he said probably $.49. When I called to confirm my payment and how much I owed for the remaining mileage and extra day. I wasnt happy that I paid $.99 per mile instead of the $1.29.James M.
6 Days after I returned the cargo van, on the same day nonetheless, I was charged for a scratch on the van. Mind you no charge was made to my card after the rental charge was finished. 6, 6 freakin days later there a scratch in a parking lot where the person rents cars, rents storage and Uhaul vehicles. To hold me liable for something that was returned and then 6 days later state there is damage, which is outside at a place that closes at 6 pm is bullshit. Do not rent here, do not use Uhaul, the moble check out is a scam!! Oh yea, I even purchased their insurance and was still charged for a damage.Jeffrey N.

The facility was a mess; paperwork everywhere, clothes hanging in the â€œofficeâ€, etc. Bait and switch business practices were used. At pick-up we were told there would not be a charge for add-on items that were not requested but, charge added. We were charged a cleaning fee although the truck was completely cleaned out. We were told to â€œnot worryâ€ about the gas used but, again were charged. All in all, $36 in bait and switch charges. I expected to pick up trailer in Leesburg which was confirmed. Then found I had too go to sterling for pickup. Software on phone did not work for photo ID. Took me two hours longer to get trailer and I had to pay my help an extra hour for waiting around for trailer. I was not very happy. And agent did not appear to know software very well either.Roy D.

This was an absolutely HORRIBLE experience. This location caused us to be four hours behind on our move. I did the express check-in ahead of time. A guy from the store called me the day before and told me that the location was not open at the guaranteed pickup time (8 AM) but that he could meet me at 9 AM. When we got there at 9 AM, it took an additional three hours to get the moving van that was guaranteed. This shop single-handedly ruined my moving day when I did everything I was told to do to ensure a smooth move.Charles U.

This drop off location is a dump. It is a mess and there is virtually no one in charge. you should change this immediately. It is difficult to find and is the bottom of a very deep barrel.. Uhaul can do better.NEAL G.

I recommend that U-Haul corporate perform a comprehensive review of the Sterling, VA U-Haul dealership. It was an awful experience. I will never use it again or recommend ours to use it. We arrived at the address of the Sterling VA address provided in the paperwork. Upon arrival to the detestation, our order was not found. Finally we were directed to go to an auxiliary location to pick up the reserved vehicle that was a car rental/used car lot. The attendant was incompetent and did not understand how to use the system. He did not acknowledge that we pre-paid for a dolly requiring my son to go back to the originally designated U-Haul location. He had to pay for a regular dolly, which he over paid for an appliance dolly. This is the worst run U-Haul facility that I have encountered in my 30 years of self moving. I will never use the Sterling VA again.Peter B.
1. It took them half hour to process the rental and give me the vehicle. 2. Dropped the vehicle after hours. Instead of billing me for 32 miles, they have billed me for 69 miles. 3. I used the van to just carry a mattress which was totally clean, but they have charged me 20$ for cleaning, which is absurd. This location is a sham and would never go back to these cheats.Pavan J.

The hours from uhaul's site didn't match what the vendor's hours were. The vendor was also late (I was the first rental for the day) by about 15 minutes. Not a huge amount of time, but a bit unprofessional. Prompt service is expected when renting by the hour. Luckily I wasn't in a huge rush and buffered time into the rental. I will go directly to the u-haul center just down the street from now on. The van was clean, in great working order, and drove well. It was ideal for what I needed it for.Jason R.

The person on the premises did not know how to work the computer. Did not know how to enter credit card information. I had to swipe three different cars to no avail Finally I had to show him to press the â€œredâ€ button for credit. The tank was not really full. We drove the van only nine miles but had to put close to three gallons of fuel. Horrible experience.Sami Z.
The personnel did not seem as though they new what they were doing. They were having a hard time with the computer for check in, even though I did express check-in the day prior so all of my information was already there. They did not have an actual rental contract nor did they walk me out to or around the truck before asking me to sign a random makeshift form for the truck. The makeshift rental contract had the mileage scribbled on the top as 4250 (but the emailed receipt says 4241) and I returned the van at 4283 a total of 33 miles (the emailed receipt reflects 43). When I stopped to look at the form and attempt to understand what I was signing the man told me to just sign it. I will not return to this location in the future and may not utilize U-haul at all.Taishan S.

i Had scheduled a Cargo Van pickup at 12. I arrived about 15 minutes early. The doors were locked. I called him and he told me to go down the street to another U-haul location. The man Moses working when we dropped off van and I asked him for my receipt said just to go and not waste his time. I ve always rented from uhaul and this is the worst experience I very ever had. Will never go to a location were it's not the actual uhaul store.Ivana T.
This location was the worse, dirty and no one in that location. Had to go next door to a chop shop and have someone call the person who is the UHaul attendant. Then waited 15 min. for him to come in, the computer was not working, The whole process lasted 45 min. Waste of my time. Later I was told that I should be back in by 3pm as the van I rented for 24 hours was rented to someone else the same afternoon. This was so far the worse experienced I have with Uhaul as I had used it several times. This location is not suitable for a UHAUL! Thanks God I was with my husband, otherwise I'd had been alone, I would not had felt safe. This comment is going all the way to UHaul corporate office. I'm disgusted, used the van for 2 hours. My appointment for pickup was 10:00am, having rented U-Haul's in the past I was familiar with the paperwork and everything that is involved in renting, so I showed up about 9:40 in hopes of being able to get everything done and filled out so I could be out the door at 10:00 and on my way. Well, the business was closed. It had a sign saying their hours were from 8am to 5pm, but the door was locked. I stood around and waited until quarter past 10 before a guy came strolling up saying sorry for being late. Once the doors were unlocked we had to then wait for the computer to boot up so he could do what was needed to let me get my van and let me be on my way. Once booted, he was unfamiliar with how to actually work the website, and at one point i had to actually tell him what to do. Once I had the van and was finally on my way, it was 10:50, almost a full hour past when I had scheduled my pickup. I initially rented the van for 7 hours to finish my move, so initially it was 10am - 5pm, but having gotten a late start due to the delays mentioned earlier, it was 5:50 when I returned the van, the guy that had helped me earlier in the morning came out yelling that I was supposed to have returned the van at 1pm. I said, no I rented it for 7 hours, to which he began to say "no, no, 1pm was the return time". I brought up my email on my phone and showed him the confirmation from U-Haul showing rental pickup and a duration of 7 hours. He did not want to look at it and just waved his hand at me. At this point I thought I was home free and good to go, I was wrong. At around 10am the following day I recieved a text message stating that my rental was now a day late and to please call. I called U-Haul and was told that a rep was calling the rental location and would call me back shortly to let me know what they found out. Well 5 minutes later I got a call from a rep who apologized and said that the issue was that the location had not entered the van in as having been returned yet, and they were doing that now, and that i "shouldn't" see any additional charges. I just can't believe what a complete and utter hassle this was from start to finish.Geoff A.
