I ordered two dozen blankets for my move. When I got there, just one hour after opening, was told that there were NONE. Blankets are pretty essential for moving furniture. I ended up using my bedding to pack my furniture. No bueno.Katie W.

Door key was accidently locked in cab and U-haul location had no extra key! U-haul 24 hr service was called and they refused to respond. The truck was located less than 3 miles from my pickup location in Portland OR. I had to call a private locksmith at my expense ($85)! Not a happy renter!GUY B.

picked up truck and was told that it had 1/4 tank of gas. gauge appeared to be below 1/4 tank and did not move visibly during the short trip we used the vehicle for. i was still charged $80 over and above rental/mileage fee: fuel service fee ($30) and 8 gallons of gas ($50, which works out to $6.25/gallon !?). i feel like I have been taken advantage of, having just paid $160 to use a truck for 2 hours. I definitely won't be coming back to this location, and will try to avoid using uhaul in general in the future.Galen T.

Although the young gentleman at the counter was semi pleasant he seemed very unhelpful when I inquired about storage space. Additionally I called the store several times from 330pm to 5pm and no one answered to advise them that I would be returning the car just before 5pm. When I got there before 5pm no one was there and instructions very poor on drop off procedures. Also drop box was hard to find. It took me over 40 minutes after calling the 1-800 twice on instructions. This shouldn't have been the case.ROLAND D.

This location is pretty mediocre: it posts a sign advertising longer hours than it is actually open. I suspect the pandemic may have something to do with its limited hours. Scheduling a truck rental via the UHaul website, is somewhere between unprofessional and outright deceptive business practices! The website let me schedule a truck for the time and place in my neighborhood I preferred, then I got a call-back from Uhaul to confirm that I would need to pick-up the truck somewhere that's 30 minutes of driving away. I said that would not work and re-scheduled with them to somewhere nearer to, but not quite the same as my preference. a few days later, I got a call from the pickup location to tell me that I would need to pick-up the truck an hour later and return it an hour earlier than I had agreed to. I also asked for Scan & Go checkout, but I was told that it was unavailable at this location. In short, the website makes it appear as though services and inventory are available for rental when they actually are not.Daniel P.

Original reservation made 4 months in advanced. Cancelled two days before with no notice or reason. Re-made the reservation with a support rep. No one was in the office during drop-off. Had to wait in the car in the rain for 2.5 hours with no cell or data service waiting for staff to arrive. If you're able, NEVER reserve a vehicle from this location. I've never seen this consistently bad service at any other UHAUL location.Ren L.

Location closed at least 45 minutes early without warning, I had to spend 20 minutes calling different posted numbers before I could talk to someone who could help me. My order was missing some rental items.Zachary S.
I made this reservation a week in advance and was told a drop off at 5pm would be possible. Then, ten minutes before my reservation began, I was called and told that despite what I'd been told, and despite the website listing the location as being open until 5pm, that the branch would actually be closing at 3pm. When I asked for an explanation, no reasoning, apology or discount was offered. We could either cut our move by two hours or not move at all. The vehicle interior itself was very dirty and sticky, with one spilled beverage in the back. I would highly recommend the location on NW Johnson to this one.JESSE E.

I have used this location before and have been happy with the service. This time however I am completely disappointed. I had a rental that was due back at 6:30pm on 3/29. When I pulled up to the gate a sign was out saying this location did not take after hour drops. The person who checked me out failed to mention this to me and the really unfortunate part was he was the owner or manager of this location. This is horrible costumer service. I had to take the truck back to my home (resulting in more miles) then Lyft back to the location to pick up my car. The next morning I show up with the truck at 9:05am and the gate is still locked. I waited around to see if anyone would show. Finally I used the link that was texted to me to check in the truck. As I was doing this another person showed up to drop off at 9:30am and they were in the same situation. Now I am being charged for an additional day and miles. This was honestly the worst experience I have had in all of my rentals. Reimbursement for the extra day and 15 miles would be a good start at making this somewhat better.BENJAMIN A.

New management. The truck was not checked over, leading to your team asking me to fill it- and for there to be a hole in the gas tank which overflowed and your team told me I had to drive back. Once returning, they were very short with me and I had to push for them to work with me to find another truck for my job as I had hired help on the way. Gwen was super snappy on the phone saying â€œShe should be CEO for putting up with thisâ€ - completely childish. She kept checking her Snapchat on her phone while making comments to the uhaul team on the other line. After finishing the call, the only truck available wouldn't work so I downsized. I could not see the prices so I was asking her to review them with me and she raised her voice to scream them at me passive aggressively. I have never been spoken to or treated the way I was at this uhaul, it felt like something out of high school. I would never recommend anyone use this site, or work with the manager.Devin S.

The place is in general not maintained well and dirty. The staff is not enough for the amount of costumers. The truck given to me was filthy inside. It smelled like someone had been living inside, dog hair all over the seats. There was a thick layer of dirt everywhere, you couldn't even see through the windshield, i tried cleaning it with the wipersâ€¦. The fort was on the inside!Alba R.

Went in for for 170 dollars, told there was a large TV box (lo and behold there was none, ended up being sold the wrong box anyway) and walked out paying close to 300. Better off by paying movers, don't know how Uhaul stay in business with such piss poor ethics. Will never use, and will never recommend.SETH ANDREW N.

They sold me a lock they knew wouldn't fit on the truck, the guy scratched the lock trying to jam it on. They told me I should go buy another lock. Also, they said I couldn't get a refund and would have to take the lock to a uhaul store but it was scratched now so I wouldn't get a refund. I really enjoyed the manager Gwen. she was blunt and no frills. she got right to the point, didn't waste time and the entire process in and out only took about 3 or 4 mins. I have rented from uhaul probably 100 or more times as I have had to use equipment for dozens and dozens of moving and hauling jobs, and this was by far the quickest and easiest experience I've ever had at any location. if you are overly sensitive, or someone that requires people to walk on eggshells and sugar coat everything for you so you feel warm and fuzzy (like most people in portland are these days) she will likely leave something to be desired- and even she would admit to that. when you operate a business that is in a rougher part of town and have to be assertive, tough and direct- it takes a special type of person to run the show the way she does. very impressed by Gwen. she made the experience better than it should have otherwise been, and I would recommend her location to anyone who has moving business to execute in the northwest Portland area. thanks gwen- keep up the good work and continue not to pander.ELLIOTT JAMES C.

Gwen who is the manager, was very disrespectful and unprofessional. It's sad that whomever is involved in decision making for this location would actually hire an individual who is so rude and uneducated in the area of customer service and the moving industry. It's also Gwen's job to inform and train her employees on the rules and regulations which is apparent that she has failed in this department too. I had to call the area field manager, Lexi who was very knowledgeable and caring. Gwen should take some pointers from her. Overall, Gwen is rude, incompetent, and should not be in a managerial position. Sad.Joseph C.

I booked with another location, but was rescheduled two days before the move because their inventory was wrong. Would have been great for them to inform me that Van's Towing handles things...a bit different then all other Uhaul locations which ends up costing their customers much more money, their safety, and their piece of mind. - Check In Took 30 Mins - No Parking - No Bathroom - Next to Homeless Encampment and not safe to leave car or Uhaul - Guy gave me the wrong truck (mileage, gas way off) - You have to pay for street parking for both you and the Uhaul Truck upon delivery I've rented from Uhaul 15 times over the past 20 years and it's always been incredibly smooth. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had.JACOB J.

I was told I had until 5:00 to return the truck. Fortunately my partner arrived ahead of me at 4:42. She saw the U-haul worker attempting to close up and lock the gate and the worker claimed it was already 5:00. I arrived 4 minutes later (4:46) and saw him again attempting to lock up the gate. I asked him "I have until 5:00 right?" He simply replied, "I'm leaving."PAUL EDMUND P.
Employee who checked me, never wore a mask. The employee who checked me out was not wearing a mask when i entered. They called me to tell me they do not offer overnight drop-off, offered 24 rental with no extra fee- but I still was charged a fee. They also forgot they offered me that when I arrived for pick up, so they pushed me to be back by 5pm. When I returned the following morning, they charged me for x4 the amount of miles I drove. I drove around 25 miles. They recorded the amount of miles I started with incorrectly. Will not refer this location again, will recommend the location on Johnson over this place.ERIN ELIZABETH M.

I received my vehicle late, setting back my whole move. The uhaul system shut down during the pickup process so I didn't get to utilize my full time slot. The area is poor and is surrounded by homeless tents. The drop off process was questionable at best, there is minimal instructions and crazy drugged homeless surrounding the location.Louis K.

The service at this location was excellent. My next sentence is NOT a reflection on them. I will never use U-HAUL ever again because of the inconvenient, confusing, and stupid ass system currently in place at UHAUL.com to return a truck after hours. That process pissed me off more than anything has in the last 6 months of living through COVID. Let that sink in. Never again will I give UHAUL my money or let anyone close to me use UHAUL. Overall the process of renting a cargo van from u-haul was frustrating, convoluted and just plain awful. If I could have found any other company that was close to where I live I would never have used u-haul and it goes without saying I will avoid this company at all costs in the future. First of all let me be clear this wasn't an issue with the people, they were okay and I'm guessing it's not a great job. It's hard to imagine a company that has implemented such a truly terrible customer experience from start to finish and other than having close to a monopoly I can't think of any reason it remains in business. 1. The online system happily took my reservation to pickup a vehicle on November 25th. When I realized the next day that was Thanksgiving Day I called and sure enough the location would be closed. It's a simple validation check. I changed my dates to Nov 24th - 27th 2. I call a week before to verify my reservation and find out if I can just provide my ID on pickup instead of uploading everything online. I have an older phone which doesn't work that well and the camera app doesn't work half the time. I am assured that will be fine 3. A few days before my reservation I get an email that the reservation has been moved to another location with no explanation why so I call in and am told the vehicle was damaged and will be out of service. I asked if they could arrange to have another one sent over since the new location is less convenient for me as I will be walking there and I am told that is not an option. 4. I receive another email a couple of days before the rental telling me that the reservation has been changed to U-Haul Truck Share and how to perform entire process with my smartphone which as I just explained is not a good option in my case. I call again and am told I can still do the pickup in person. 5. I arrive the morning of the pickup and the person tells me I need to take a photo of my license and upload it to the portal. I am standing right in front of them. After a few attempts which are half successful they input the rest and I finally get the cargo van. I rent cars all the time and have never had to go through such a laborious process, you hand them your license and swipe a credit card and that's that. Even in the pandemic I can hold the card against the plastic shield and they can type in my license number. Why u-haul makes this such an issue is beyond my understanding and anti-customer focused to say the least. 6. I confirmed when I rented it that the location would be open Nov 26th as I will probably finish early and am told it would be and the hours were 9-5. I finished on the afternoon of the 26th and when I arrived at the location around 4:30 of course they were closed that day. Luckily I had reserved it until the following day just in case so I brought it back the next morning. From start to finish one of the worst customer experiences I have had in a long time. If renting a car is so quick and seamless why is renting a van such a painful experience? Why does u-haul force customers to complete this process digitally? Maybe the customer isn't that comfortable with technology or perhaps they assume this should be like every other rental. If u-haul doesn't want this type of customer they should be honest about it before allowing the reservation by saying if you cannot complete everything digitally then take your business elsewhere. The young man with purple hair who signed me in and out didnt seem to really want to be there or to interact. My partner pointed out the place could have been entirely self service, for all the info he provided, or interest he showed in his job. Also I was told the gas was "at about half" . When I started the van I noticed it indeed was actually below half by a bit. I drove the van a total of 4 miles, and added $5 gas to it therefore, to overshoot. The clerk then charged me an extra $ 3.98 and when I asked about the charge said it was for gas because it wasn't on half when i returned it. I explained it wasnt on half when I got it, and had even added gas beyond the miles used. He said "I cant help you" and finally gave me the name of the manager. When I asked his name in order to reference the interaction, he got really defensive and snapped, "THAT is none of your business" and hung up. Kind of a bizarre reaction. But the second I walked into the Quimby location and was not even greeted, I could tell it was going to be a sub par experience. He also made a big favor out of signing me in and seemed really put out that i didn't opt to download links on my phone and upload my lisence myself, when I was standing there in person. Not to mention, didnt check in any equipment (handtruck) upon return. He clearly didn't seem to want to lift much of a finger. And perhaps just a job mismatch. In any case, the other reps, his manager, and the other locations I spoke with were all lovely and professional. Also the van was fine and the rate was good. Wouldnt rec the Quimby location, however, so as not to subject others to this level of disregard. Kind of disappointing, but Uhaul in general is still a good company. I got a call after I took the truck from Van's, asking what was the milage when I took the vehicle (the form said 99999.9). I gave them an estimate based on the miles I thought I'd driven. The reason to give a 2-star review was on after-hours checkin I put in the odometer reading and the check-in app refused it because it was lower than the starting milage.KEVIN L.
