The rental experience was very good except for the checkout. I completed it online and submitted pictures on 12/30/23. I received the confirmation email that the checkout was submitted. The next email that I received was on 1/5/24. It stated that, "We have not received your monthly payment for storage room #2. The rent was due on 1/2/2024. A late fee of $15.00 has been charged to your account." I replied to the late notice email with a copy of the checkout confirmation email. The error was corrected later in the day, but it was similar to an experience I had earlier in 2023 where I completed the checkout but still received a late notice.

I wouldn’t recommend U-Haul to a single living person, no one deserves dealing with your terrible company. I’ve never had a worse experience at a business in my life, 0/10 - I couldn’t even get inside to store my belongings. How about you give people the correct code for the area they are trying to use instead of giving a code to a gate that I didn’t need because my unit was inside and I needed a code I didn’t have that I had to call for. That wouldn’t have been as serious a problem if you had a single employee I could get a hold of to tell me what the code I needed was. (Oh and before you go and blame me like your customer service people, it was the middle of the day, around 11am/noon) Screw you and your scam U-haul
Patrick N | Overall ExperienceI initially had a reasonable experience when I contacted U haul via the internet. Then I downloaded the app and became extremely frustrated. It was not user friendly at all! The facility that I wanted to rent at did not have office hours but a faded sign directed me to the main office. There i had an excellent experience. The staff was super helpful and was able to meet my needs perfectly. Regarding the actual storage facility, entry was ready however upon entry, it was a bit scary. It was very dark. There were no lights on and no light switches immediately apparent.

CHRISTOPHER S | Overall ExperienceOn April 3, 2023, I signed up for a parking spot at the Hadleyview Ct. NE facility so I could temporarily securely park my vehicle for safe storage until I could return to Rochester to retrieve it. The personnel at the main office indicated there were two parking spaces available. I selected one, and received assignment for that space. Upon arrival, there was a "Sno Cone" vendor trailer in that space, partially up on wooden blocks. I checked the remaining space, but there was debris, such as firewood and cinder blocks, to deter anyone from parking there. Some individuals were on the grounds that did not lend to a sense that my vehicle would necessarily remain safe at that location. I left, returned to the main office on Civic Center Drive, explained the scenario, and my contract for that space and facility was cancelled out that afternoon.

When they heard I was on a tight schedule and budget they went out of their way to make the process smooth for me when they really didn’t have to. They were knowledgeable and friendly.

I called the store numerous times not once were they able to pick up. I called a different store I told them if they would help me get in contact with the GM . Allan, the GM calls me and I let him know what’s happening. Allan turns around and says that I have a due balance, on my other unit. totally trying to deflect the problem. I was having at the moment with the unit that I was being rented out and then goes as far as saying, I can refund you your money and move you out. GM or not that’s no way to talk to a person. This is not the first time I had to deal with Allan

crystal w | Overall ExperienceThe only reason I did not select "excellent" is because when I booked the storage room through the national call center, I was told (mistakenly) that there was an elevator for me to move my belongings to a second floor unit. AND I was not told that I had to go to a different facility to check in receive an assignment. Fortunately, the gentleman I spoke with at the main facility was VERY patient, got me into a first floor unit (yes, $10 more a month, but no elevator was a deal-breaker), and even talked me through getting a lock and into the unit without an extra trip to the main facility and back!. Kudo's to U-Haul Moving & Storage of Rochester on Civic Center Drive!! Not so much to the call center.

Was not told you needed to Use * and # sign with code. Fortunately my helper called someone he knew who had a unit and they told us what to do. Office phone not answered when I called. Just rang and rang.

Fletcher H | First ImpressionsStaff sent us to storage location with wrong key, couldn’t enter the building. Had to go back to the store to get the right key for the building. Once we were able to enter the building, we found that the storage unit assigned to us was already in use. Customer service told us to get a hotel for the night and figure it out during store hours the next day. We moved into a vacant unit that happened to be empty, only to find out after we moved all our stuff the unit door was broken (probably why it was vacant). The experience was such a hassle and I would recommend exploring other options before using uhaul.

Phone systems were also down after I moved out of unit to report move out date. Tried calling to clear things up, was told the inaccurate move out date had to be reviewed by a manager. Never received call back. Employee was very rude and unprofessional. Will not recommend this business to my colleagues.

One of our staff members went to the storage one day to drop something off and the storage had a notice that rent had not been paid yet it had and when I tried calling someone I couldn't get a hold of anyone for at least an hour or longer. It would have been nice to get a hold of someone right away.

Got there to look and employee said the only store that had pul thrus was across town. Drove there to find out they are not truly pull threes and we’re way to expensive. So went back to original store to find that my assigned spot would no way accommodate my 31’ camper. My truck barely fit in spot let alone a long camper. If I parked it there it would block others from access to their storage spots.. security gate was open for 2 days straight.. when I went to explain situation to employee she said when I asked for pull thru she didn’t know what I meant and didn’t seem to care. I also Asked why she would assign a spot that would NO WAY accomidate my camper.. her response... I guess I didn’t know it was 31’.... Total incompetence on her part.. her response...oops!!! No apology whatsoever for my total inconvenience!!! In the meantime my camper illegally parked on my street because of uhauls unprofessional employees that don’t know or care what they’re doing. I have used uhaul before and had fine experience.. but NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! I will spread the word and tell people to go elsewhere. I currently have no place to store camper.. a parking ticket...and a bad bad feeling about this entire situation. Your employees need better training or open their ears and listen !!!! Not ONE word of apology. Shame on that girl!!!! NEVER Again!!!!!!!!!!!!

They assured me they had one so I came to store.. paid...then told no pull thrus but had a 31ft spot for me. When I got to storage area it was only as long as my truck... there was no way a 31 foot camper would fit.. I came to store just now... explained all this.. had same girl I had when I paid and all she said was oops.. so your camper didn’t fit??.... I will not ever do business with uhaul again and I will tell all about my bad experience. The staff did not know their business.. what was available or any compassion about all my inconvenience. Never again!!!!
nancy j | First ImpressionsU-Haul really came through for me and my family we had a very rough moved that require no Morris equipment not only did they help us have a storage but there was always there whenever I needed to move something to get me in another truck or trailer I'm so glad I finally moved into my home but I couldn't have done it without U-Haul the staff was all very helpful in understanding and took the time to make sure I have the right equipment that I need it didn't put me in nothing that was way over budget for me I'm very grateful I would definitely recommend everyone to use U-Haul services for moving or storage. My only regrets was not taking pictures with all the equipment that was provided to me and my storage so I can be U-Haul famous.

Not a huge deal but it would have been nice to know that was necessary before getting there, especially after traveling several hours with a truck.
