The box itself wasnt in great condition the latch didn't fit well the door was janky, like it had been used too much and instead of replacing it...things were just put on it to make it work. For the most part my items were fine. I was not happy with the way the box was treated. My lock had gotten smashed somewhere in transport, making my key to open it unless. That tells me that that may also assist in my broken items if things were being slammed around. I wouldn't recommend uhaul for cross county moves. There was little to no communication with the company, my box leaving was delayed, but I had to reach out, it was not told to me. I waited on hold for over 45 minutes to request my box to be moved out of storage so I could get my items. I ended up chatting with someone (while still on hold by the way) and then it wasn't even relayed to the location correctly, so they had to reach out to me, to get the day and time I wanted to access my box. For the cost and the pain of communicating I delt with I would use another company in the future. I was disappointed in the service all around. The pick-up location was great and worked with me.Courtney G.
My only complaint is the lady and man who checked me in were extremely rude, and not very accommodating. The manager made things right later,but they need to train their staff to be friendly and kind, moving is already stressful as it is... these people were rude and nasty! The problem I had was with the online reservation. Stuff kept being added that I didn't need. Had to keep editing.SIBONGILEYVONNE M.
Times have changed at UHaul when employees used to care about a customer's basic needs. When arriving at your location at Warwick Street in Newport News, VA, I immediately detected an attitude from the individual checking us in. We didn't feel welcome within 30 seconds after I responded to the individual that we pre-checked in on your website. (I uploaded my driver's license and all information requested the night before). Then the problem began. We reserved the trailer for the maximum 24 hour period. I politely asked how we can return the trailer and be checked out if they are closed the next day on Sunday morning and opening in 25 hours? (They open at 9 AM). We were renting at 7:30 AM, (but because of the ensuing engagement, we didn't leave until 8:15 AM). The individual argued that we would have to pay for 48 hour rental if we can not unhook the trailer before they open up the next morning at 9. Because of a health issue, ( I am age 70 also) I can not lift that weight off the hitch anymore. (the individual needed a special hoist to lift it on our hitch as well.) The individual was intolerable to discuss the matter with us. I joked with the individual when it became an impasse in discussing a solution to return the trailer and be charged for 24 hours. That incited the individual to only become exaggerative of my comment and belligerent. We were finally assisted by the store manager, who graciously told us to return it by 8:30 AM the next day (Since it was after 8 Am already, 30 minutes trying to take possession of our rented trailer. We would be charged for 24 hours, That was yesterday. Someone will be there early to disconnect the trailer. We arrived at 8:25 AM from our location 23 miles away. A nice lady disconnected the trailer (They needed a jack to lift it off the hitch.) Since they were still not open, she was going to send me the receipt via email after 9 AM. That's when it got worse. The I called the facility when I received the invoice and was put on a 7 minute hold. I had to call back because they were not picking the phone up. I was put on a 3 minute hold for them to locate the lady who received the trailer and who invoiced us incorrectly. She said wasn't aware of the agreement the manager offered us the morning before and couldn't adjust our credit card payment yesterday until she spoke with a manager within 24 hours. Now we are here today. I feel distrust for that location and the employees serving us. Your company used to be customer conscious. These people have caused us, paying customers, undue stress. Why do they charge for an extra day (15 minutes) to begin with if they are not open to receive the trailer in 24 hours? UHaul always figured a way to collect the proper payment and we leave the trailer according to their requests. If I could have lifted the trailer off the hitch, I would have done so, but stated it would be impossible for me to do so. Why didn't the manager alert the next shift on our account ticket of our return before they open per her suggestion and charge 24 hours? Where is customer care with UHaul? The extra $45 won't break me, but the experience will have us look for another rental company or just buy a trailer of our own and to forget UHaul forever. Honestly, we moved our house hold 1,000 miles one way with a 26' Budget Rent a Truck last year, because we saw deterioration of customer care at your Falls Church, VA location in returning a trailer then. We move furniture regularly and always depended on good customer service from UHaul. Sadly it had regressed. The first individual was looking for a confrontation the minute we arrived to do business with UHaul. MAybe they had a bad night before work that morning. We are all human. But to be confrontational and talking don to a good customer is a mortal sin in my book. I only became confrontational demonstrating that I am not going to be talked down to and dictated to, when I was only asking how to remedy the 24 hour return when the location were not open and how to remove the trailer. Please believe me, when I became confrontational, I had enough of abuse and was only responding to the individual's behavior and never insulted the individual. The individual only became more agitated as the individual talked. I had to leave the room once to avoid insulting the individual. My sister n law remained and discussed the matter with the individual who was in a zone for over 30 minutes just checking pre-checked in clients. Pardon the length of this, but it was a goat rodeo to say the least. receipt charged me for 2 days rental, 2 days insurance and 2 days tax for 24 hours and 15 minutes of possession of the trailer. The van we had reserved for was not available. Luckily, we were able to get a 10-ft truck instead. Please make sure that the reservation systems talk to each other, since this is not the first time it has happened. Customer service was excellent though.CORY S.

None of the charges were explained to me. So I'm thinking its gonna be the $60 rental for the truck, $14 insurance and the $160 for the miles we drive and then they added on almost $50 worth of fees! So after all was said and done my rental was 300!!! That's crazy to me!! Just make sure they explain all the fees to you before you get the truck.Lacey R.

Nothing the location can do per say but more the company as a whole. Make the darn haul tow mode an option to turn on, not off. Often I would forget only to be reminded as my fuel drops very quickly. U-haul has had this feature for some time now and it's not hard to reverse it. Also I bet military is one of your biggest clientele. Why do you not offer a military discount?DOUGLAS M.

Use your own scanner system to scan a person's driver license. Also, train your new staff better to handle all aspects of the rental to save long wait time as this location was pretty busy and could have used an extra person to help at the counter. Especially since the new guy didn't know how to do everything which made the process take longer. So checkout was slow but check in was quick. The after hours check in.Its was a little too much when trucks are turned in when it's dark and women are out by themselves and got to do all that picture taking stuff and putting things in they could be afraid..alot of time you don't get back because of different things that can cause you to be late so that's all I would say about this company. The staff were amazing! They helped me and fixed my reservation error. They were really busy when I got my vehicle so I can understand that it wasn't cleaned before I used it. However it was a little nasty to see two face masks in the vehicle.Patricia T.
The issue was with the online reservation process. Mobile vehicle return and availability. I was able to reserve a 20 ft truck online. When I arrived at the location it was not available. The associate had to cancel the reservation and create a new rental.JULIUSROSS W.

I am not sure I would recommend u-haul. There was one person on duty and a line and none of your apps worked. I paid the $20 to drop the U-Haul off because I could not get the app to work and I was tired. So I left not happy. The worker was very pleasant though.Johnna B.
