I can't say enough just how grateful I am for the employee who checked us in to our storage unit. We had a rough start to our move- the truck rental location in Cedar Rapids didn't have the truck we reserved, so we had to drive to Iowa City for a truck, and then back to Cedar Rapids to load and move, giving us a late start. After we loaded and were on the road, we hit gridlocked traffic due to a wreck. Altogether, we ended up at the storage location twenty minutes after close. An employee was headed toward his car, but saw us walk up to the door and asked if he could help, even though I'm sure he was off and ready to go home already. We told him what happened and he went out of his way to check us into the storage unit we reserved and get us set up. He was amazingly kind and courtesy. I have been to this uHaul location a couple of times to rent moving trucks. This is the first time I've gone there to rent a storage unit. The staff were really helpful. It took a while to get my unit, but the first person who helped me credited me with one month free for the inconvenience, which I really appreciated. My key card didn't work when I tried it, but someone else helped me change the key card to one that did, and he tested it out before he gave it to me, which was great. Then, when I returned to put things in my unit today, the same person who helped me with my card saw that I was having trouble getting into the loading garage, and he ran over immediately to open the garage door for me. I'm sure it was my own error and I'm grateful for his courtesy going above and beyond to assist me! Had a little issue with the oil temperature gauge constantly on â€œduring a D2 dot drive testâ€ and the gas gauge was incorrect ~ either stuck or going out â€¦ once I got in the truck it was listed at half tank of gas but as soon as I left the premises on a dip down the gauge realigned lower and never moved after thatâ€¦ I tried to call back in but automatic msg kept me in a loop of please waitâ€¦BENJAMIN A.

I did not get the furniture pads I rented. When I turned the trailer in it was a 20 min. on the phone wait by the turn in agent for getting confirmation they had not been included. She just marked them as returned. Also told if I wanted my money back I would need to contact U-haul myself!LESLIE S.

No manager present. They tried to get me to take out a vehicle with a check engine light on when I was schedule for close to a 500 mile trip In the end they could not get the reservation return day correct, milage or dollars right even though I spelled it out for them. The storage unit it self was good, but the workers were not helpful, all we heard was, I can't do that, meaning, management has to do that, Justen if even you would of helped, but you wasn't there half the time, we moved out on the May 28th NOT June 1st, so wrong again, we want our money back, you said you weren't charging us the couple days, after May 19th you wrote that on your business card, and we have it, we had to call our bank and contact the fraud Department and your worker told them what was going on, very poor place and workers, VERY POOR, I hope someone else from corporate calls me, but I am sure it's just going to you and will be seen by anyone else. I am not sure why you treated us so poorly, but I feel sorry for the next person. All we wanted was our money YOU promised us and would not close us out. I've rented from this location multiple times. I've learned that I need to allocate at least 1/2 hour just to get to an agent to complete the rental I've already started on-line. I despise the app to rent a uHaul by cell phone. It's unreliable and frustrating. Uhaul of Urbandale does not have these problems.Rodney H.

Overcharged us for extra mileage and days even though we returned it within the 24 hour period. Also we were guarantee extra mileage to make more trips since we were not given the vehicle I reserved a month in advance. Instead they overcharged us for use of multiple day which we did not use also charged us for extra mileage which we were told we could have due to having a smaller vehicle.Brian B.

I would recommend it for the pricing and the availability of product. I would caution anyone I spoke with about this location that they should factor in a long wait to be taken care of. Regardless of whether you check in on line or not, you will wait 15 to 30 minutes to get to the counter to secure what you have come to rent. I have visited this location many times over the last 3 months and invariably they have one person working. There are far too many directions these folks get pulled to only have one person working. They check you in, they retrieve vehicles, they hook up trailers, they check in and clean returned vehicles. God help you if you only want to buy supplies. Great prices but you can get the same items at the big boxes and not incur the wait. I need to add that every team member I have worked with, while under intense pressure, has always been friendly, kind and knowledgable. Truly the only person I've encountered there who is not friendly is the gentleman with the long beard, who I believe is the manager. I've only seen him there once during my many trips over the last several months. Gracias.Michael W.

The poor kid working was the only one doing anything. He was the only one helping everyone, hooking up equipment, cleaning equipment, checking people out, running around doing things. The other one working literally just stood around and talked and that was all he was doing. That younger man was amazing!! 20 out or 10 he was the best! Never received an email or text from customer service telling me where to pick up trailer and if I was approved for my request. I called and was told the happy news by "Olga" bless her heart, who gave me all the details and a location that was close by where I could pick up the trailer. Olga also texted me all of the information that she gave me over the phone. The two customer service reps at the U-Haul east Hickman location in Waukee, Iowa, were very efficient with getting us hooked up with the trailer and out of there in short order. We were able to drop it off the next morning at the U-Haul in Winner, South Dakota. Your stores made it an easy and low stress experience. ¡Gracias!Anita M.

I had reservations for a 26 foot truck for about 4 weeks prior to the pickup date. When I arrived to pick it up, there was not one available. I even confirmed a week before and the night prior to my reservation. I was given a 20 foot truck with no real explanation as to why the one I reserved was not available. With having to use a 20 foot truck, it cost me an extra $200.00 dollars in expenses. This is due to the extra mileage, gas and having to keep the movers I hired longer then expected. I would appreciate being compensated for the extra cost as, again, the truck I reserved several weeks in advance was not what I was given. Checkout was confusing and equipment was changed 3 times. Check in was smooth but then my final bill was nearly double what i was told I'd be charged. I was called the next day to confirm my equipment because it was wrong in the system. I'll most likely drive to a different location when I use U-Haul again.Jared K.

The bay doors don't work. I have been there twice and and had to back up and go to another door before it would open. The front desk manager did a great job and I had no issues with him. There is someone sleeping in the indoor bay. The first night I went there, there was a van parked in there and a guy was sleeping. The second time he had the same van but was not in the front seat. I would not let my wife go there on her own due to this guy hanging out and sleeping. I also drove into the bay and the door to the storage facility opened without me using my card. There were buckets all over the second floor catching water and several empty units had the doors open with buckets catching water. I would encourage you to better train your folks at your front desk with your program. They were nice to me, not so much to each other, but I think they were just frustrated not knowing for sure how to get me or the other customers in our units in a timely fashion. I offered to just go online as there was much confusion on their part and no resource for them to turn to for help. The day prior to renting a storage unit I had rented a small 4×8 cargo trailer and the move was intense and stressful. I was 6 hours out and the store I was going to was going to close the minute I got there. The staff were amazing and stayed 30 minutes after close to insure I was set for this move. We reserved a 15 x 10 Unit on the first floor knowing that we had a lot of heavy items. We arrived at the appropriate time to move into a rental unit and we were told they did not have any 15 x 10 units available at all they only had 10 x 10 units and they had none available on the first floor. They had a 10 x 10 available on the second floor we would have to bring all of our items up a set of stairs And then down a long hallway. When I asked about why we made the reservation she said that it was policy that they just give the units to people as they arrive so it was first come first serve. When I inquired why do I make a reservation at all then she did not know why this was the policy. Very unhappy did not choose to rent a unit there after all. If I had known the only way to access the second floor is by a single stair case, I would have chose a different facility. I have to move my stuff from the car to a cart, wheel it inside, carry everything up the stairs and load it into a second cart, and then push it to the far end of the second floor, where there is another staircase that can't be used?
