We recently moved from Georgia to New Jersey and to say it was a rough trip is an understatement. This was NOT because of wrongdoing on U-hauls part. When we arrived in New Jersey (at the E. 2nd St., Plainfield U-Haul location) to return the truck and auto transport, Johanna, the manager, was quick to come up to us, greet us and offer assistance. Joanna could tell right from our initial meeting that we were stressed, anxious, and exhausted. She went above and beyond to help which told me she genuinely cares for people and their issues. From the time I spent there, she was nothing but helpful and kind and did anything she could to make things easier and was quick to offer solutions to problems we encountered. She listened and understood our problems and explained everything we needed to know. It was very refreshing to deal with a manager that actually manages and is a problem solver. These days, it is very rare to find outstanding customer service…it's rare to even find good customer service. Joanna and her staff provided outstanding customer service, which made all the difference on this nightmare of a move. Everyone in the store was always up to assist and offer advice when needed. They were helpful, pleasant to deal with and were constantly there to answer a question or help out with whatever obstacles we had to figure out. My experience here was excellent and I will definitely recommend to anyone who needs to rent a truck or use their storage facility. I can't thank them enough for providing compassion, understanding and advice at a time we needed it most. Joanna and her staff are the best example of customer service we have come across in a long time!

SONJA BU-Haul charged me $51.00 for gas and I had to show the clerk what I had received (from photos taken). So he refunded the money, but if I had not taken pictures I would have been charged. That's not right.

Denise JThe 10' trucks are old. Just my luck I was given the same truck the last two times I rented and the truck needs to be gotten rid of. T1098 or something like that. The mileage is way too high, the visor above the driver's side, falls off when you turn it down to block the sun. The truck makes a weird noise as if it's about to shut off, kind of like when driving a stick shift and its bot in the right gear, a revving noise as if when you press the gas it's not going anywhere. It's garbage! If I rent again from this location and get assigned that same truck I will not be taking it.

Kevin SI rented a 15' on Sunday 4/23 and rushed to return it by 5pm. When I got to the office shortly before 5pm, the office was closed and door locked. I tried to download the app and online return. The cell signal in the office area was poor and multiple attempts failed. It was a frustrating experience. also, I accidentally removed the zip tie of the dolly but didn't use it. I was charged $7 for cutting the zip tie!

You should talk to the City of Plainfield about its broken glass problem, as it caused a blowout of one of my hand truck tires, delaying my move-out by several days. Also, I lost a caster wheel to a track in one of Plainnfield's sidewalks. Fortunately, I was able to borrow my ex-wife's Subaru to complete the move-out.

He was slamming doors at customers and coworker, yelling at his coworker who was quietly cleaning and moving the trucks, sighing and making passive aggressive marks at customers, and telling them to "hurry up because he wanted to go home at 5." He also got mad and walked away from me when I said I had to back out of renting a space because they had no elevator and that would make moving in and storing my furniture impossible. This was such an unpleasant experience that I also cancelled my truck rental from this location because I did not want to deal with him again.
