The only reason I don't give it five stars is that there's a disconnect between the U-Haul online reservation system and how the process really works at this facility. The online system makes one think that the entire unit rental process can be done online, but in reality you will get a confirmation email that tells you to go to the Rockledge U-Haul to sign forms and set the access code. This can lead to miscommunication. I suggest the website explain that not all locations can initiate rentals entirely online and to please read the confirmation email carefullly.Raoul C. | First Impressions

My access code is still denied after a week. After multiple calls and visits to the main office, they are still unable to give me my own access code that works. They told me to just follow someone else in and that the alarm would go off after opening my unit. I insisted that I needed a code to enter because I wasn't going to just wait for someone else to show up, so they are having me use the access code of the manager of the building. Four days after renting, the manager that I hadn't met before, put a new lock on my unit, not allowing me to get my stuff. The original sales person never told me I had to have a specific lock. When I spoke to the manager, she was rude and disrespectful, still not even allowing me access to MY stuff until I went out and bought a new lock. Another time I showed up and the doors wouldn't open. I sat there for five minutes reentering my code because I thought something was wrong. As I started walking past the front, I see her in there sweeping. I tap on the glass and she rudely says……I'm cleaning! Use the other entrance! The electronic rental process was thorough and customers new to it should be prepared for it to take 15-20 minutes. (Drop off took less time, maybe 10 minutes.) Be sure to review the required information before you show up to rent! This was all included in the rental confirmation email and I'm glad we took note of it. I can see how the process would be frustrating if you are not prepared. But everything went smoothly at our pace instead of waiting on an associate to handle everything. It was great we could pick up and drop off outside of normal business hours and the price was incredibly reasonable. The equipment at this location is well-maintained and looks and feels brand new. And this location is well-lighted and in a safe open area. Absolutely no complaints and we will definitely return if we have need of a rental in the future!David B.

Your customer service hotline and website are such nightmares. I've found myself stuck in loops on the website. Your hotline hangs up on people, nobody knows what's going on, hold times are forever… when I went into your Asheville store there was a line out the door and one employee who's manager walked out running the store. Your in store employees seem to be cleaning up all the messes your online and hotline are causing and they have huge lines and understaffing to deal with. I rented a U-Haul cargo van from the Merritt Island location the cargo van was roach infested and the previous user had left a note on the seat saying do not use this van roaches everywhere they wasn't lying I went through three and a half cans of spray before I could put my belongings into the van roaches was falling from the ceiling coming from all the cracks the holes the crevices underneath the rubber pad the driver's seat the passenger seat the console just everywhere roaches German roaches but I must say that the Rockledge U-Haul store have a customer service person there by the name of JT who was absolutely wonderful he was very concerned and caring he addressed my concerns he went above and beyond to make sure that I the customer was satisfied he is an excellent member to have on the U-Haul team kudos to you JT you are the best I will only deal with JT moving forward with any of my future rentals.Joyce W.
Roaches all in the cab of the truck, called corporate and was sent to the department that helps when there is a problem on the road, was told to buy a can of roach spray and submit for reimbursement. They would not come get the nasty truck that had so many roaches they were falling on my head while I was driving. To top it off, after I returned the truck an hour and a half later after picking it up (the length of the extremely long hold time of the call to corporate), I was charged the full rental price as if I would have kept the nasty ass truck for the whole weekend. I have posted negative information and pictures on my community Facebook page and thousands have saw the bullshit and have heard the horrible customer service response as a recorded it. Normally everything I do with U-Haul is pretty small, I just want to give it in a little bit of feedback with the 24 seven truck share. I had a rented a truck to pick up at 6 PM I went to do the online check-in and the app wouldn't let me do it neither with the online page. I was there for quite a while when I finally got the box number I opened it and there was no key in there. So I had to make another reservation wait to be excepted and then wait for the code to finally get my truck. I still yet have to know whether they will reimburse me for the first rental and if they will let me keep my storage reservation. I liked the idea of being able to rent the van via online, and the pick up went smooth; but returning the vehicle was a complete nightmare. Having to upload pictures for verification of mileage and fuel, as well as cleanliness was ridiculous. I'm trying to accomplish all of this in the pouring rain, no coverage from the elements, and no person at the location to assist. Using the App was a joke, as I had to try multiple times to upload pictures, etcâ€¦Calling customer service helped somewhat, but waiting 10 minutes to actually speak to someone, only to be cut off after 20 minutes into the call only made matters worse. Personally, even at a location that is 100% self service should still be â€œmannedâ€ by someone who can help if there's any trouble. I will NEVER try the online service from U-Haul again.Jeffrey C.

Most days no one was on site. If a person called the management office in Rockledge, the call went to national number, hard to get thru to the Rockledge office. Sometimes the only way to talk to someone was to walk in. The same dirt on the floor of the facility, and in the bathroom would be there for 3 or 4 days in a row (soap on the floor of the restroom). It is hard to get in and move around in the facility. I understand why no outside door for easy access, but the hallways are narrow, the lights are on auto timers and go out while a person is in the unit. The only way to get the light back on is to come out into the darkness and find the sweet spot for motion to be detected. I rented for almost a year with all the mess in my life. Have a form in the vehicle and drop box for any report of damage in case the link doesn't arrive on customers phone until an hour after supposedly sent. Check your vehicles before they go to the next customer. That way you will know if a tire has a leak before you rent it out. Check for tools to change a flat. There were no tools, 1st roadside assistance guy didn't bring tools, wasted trip! Most horrible experience I've ever had with a rental. Your kiosk concept does not work. I called the number on the sign when I brought the vehicle back, the woman at the other Merritt Island location had to tell me where the drop box was. This office is hard to get in touch with. I had to drive multiple times from Merritt Island to Cocoa to get things done. There was a fire door that was broken upon my moving out that prevented some things from being moved but we found a way thanks to one manager (Misty). I also had a lock on my unit when my account was paid and it was like pulling teeth getting that lock off for two days I fought to get it off, my fiancé was ready to cut it off. We had a truck rental just to move my stuff out, well because of the hassle of the lock issue, Misty ended up being able to calm my irritation by waving the fee no matter how late the truck was returned. I had a terrible experience at the Merrit island location, was so aggravated and stressed out. I will never rent a vehicle at any of your locations or any other company that does not have a live person working there. I got there an hour before I was supposed to meet my movers and was a half hour late trying to get my keys and approval at this location. It took so long to get approved as there was an issue with inventory at first I called a rep and they said someone would contact me, then a U-haul worker a woman came out by the key box and didn't even look or speak to me or offer any help. I entered my two personal contacts i needed to get approved and i got a text back saying my contact didnt answer. i then had to enter 4 or 5 more contacts. Each time I did this I lost contact with the rep and had to go back and forth on my phone and back to Uhaul site re enter password enter another contact kept getting messeges that my contacts were not approved , it really was a night mare and gave me so much anxiety. it took an hour and a half to finally get my key. Then when I got back after my move to return van, I got a code to enter for the keypad box to put my key back in and the code would not work. I tried lining up the letters and I battled with this for another 15 minuets getting blisters on my fingers trying to get the pad lock to open. I called a rep and she said the code was right and that the letters did not line up properly. I don't understand why I had to struggle so much to line up letters on a key pad for 15 min. I never ever had an issue over the years using any type of lock pad. finally it opened with so much force and struggle. I am sorry that I am venting, but I am a former business owner and very honest and sincerely not the type to post negative things about any company and I would never do so to yours. I am all about being positive and always giving good reviews if I feel like I had a good experience, This time, it was bad. I had difficulty signing in to pick up-I was supposed to leave at 7am and I left at 7:40 which put me behind. I could not finish by the return time, but, brought it back at 10:15 and got signed out at 10:59. The front tire was low and no way to tell anyone. I had a 49 min wait to report that and even though I came back 45 min early with less miles, I closed out so I could leave and go use my car to finish the move. The indoor facility AC was broken most of the last 4 months. The slider doors to the front and the roll up drive in doors were broken periodically during our time using the facility. While the bathrooms seemed to be well maintained and well fragranced the rest of the facility lacked cleanliness and upkeep. The donate pile has turned into a trash area with no one coming and collecting anything. Trash bins on the property were rarely emptied. First, I got an email from U-Haul stating that I could check-in online and you also have a sign outside the facility to that effect, but I could not do so on Saturday night. So I went to the Rockledge, FL office on Sunday to sign my contract then drove to the Merrit Island, FL facility. It turned out that the unit I reserved was not available. I found this out because there was a lock on the door. Twice I called the local office telephone number but got the U-Haul call center and both times the agents did not know what to do and suggested they could email the General Manager. I needed immediate resoluion and email is not time-sensitive. I drove back to the Rockledge, FL office and was assigned a smaller unit than originally reserved. I did not like the way the General Manager treated me - there was no sympathy for my situation. Unfortunately, I had a trailer full of items that had to be unloaded so I could return the trailer to U-Haul. I was put into a no-win situation. Called ahead to get code. Wrong upon arrival. Luckily, someone else was also moving and allowed me access (I had a 15' uhaul open, and clearly full). Lost account. Recreated Incorrectly. Locked out. Locked out still 2 WEEKS later from LOST ACCOUNT. Uhaul customer service was unable to contact them to get my lock off so I had to drive over to their office location (NOT ON SITE) since they also were not answering customer calls. I witnessed that while I was at the location. I was in tears which is incredibly rare for me, moving exhaustion 1400miles twice in 3 months alone two trips each time, once with the 15' uhaul and vehicle transport and the next with the other car and the pets. BOTH my rentals were with a Uhaul storage facility. No apologies, nothing. YOU'D THINK YOU'D AT LEAST TRY TO MAKE SOME FORM OF CORRECTION! Instead while I was there the red head guy clearly was happy to be telling me he was so so sorry, and the other older lady came in with food and he told her about the lock, and she said "Oh, guess I'll spend my lunch driving over there and get to eat in my car." AMAZING. Then she gets to the locked unit and tells me its because of the type of lock....which is amazing because I've used that lock at your facilities before, and no one mentioned that until we arrived on site so I could believe she just made it up on the fly when she saw the lock wasnt a uhaul one, either way NO COMMUNICATION regarding the lock being wrong, no notification that it would take 2 weeks to get access. Funny the only two emails I received from the facility contained payment info the other was telling me I had a late payment that had been due on the account on 9.11, I cancelled the account on 9.9 and had already cleaned it out. I waited 50+ min on the phone to be told it was archived and taken care of. Ignore the email. MY MOVE OUT DATE ON THIS PAGE SAYS 9.16 THAT IS INCORRECT. I rented a 10x20 and got two 10x10s, one of which has a pole in the way which limits the use. Also, the large rodent poison boxes in each space are disgusting and take up space. We wasted a lot of time trying to find the unit. No directions or maps were provided and the numbering system makes no sense from the perspective of the customer. Where to start. I arrive to pick up my truck and the office guy is on a personal phone call about his alcoholism. I waited outside until he was finished. The 6 blankets I requested were not there. The truck was not filled up with gas. He showed me how not to drive with the tow package on. This truck was equipped with an AM/FM radio for my 20 hour drive to Florida. I improvised. Upon arrival, in Florida, the storage unit was 10 miles from the office. No where in the contract was this information stated. At the office, I was assured that a 10x10 unit would be okay for a 1 bedroom apartment and a lock would be inside the unit. Upon arrival, there was no lock and no way I was going to be able to store our belongings. As I was realizing this, my wife redirected 4 other families on where to go in order to check in. There was no Uhaul representative at the actual storage site. My wife had to drive back to the office to rent a second unit. Once we were done unloading, we had to drive back to the office to get a second lock, drive back to the unit and lock it up. Going back to the original truck rental I Texas, I called the office twice and left voicemails that because of bad weather, we were delayed by a day and needed to extend the rental. I did not ever get a call back. Returning the truck to another whole location the next day. I called the information number provided, it rang to a fax machine 3 times. The 4th time someone answered and told me to bring the key inside the convenient store. The clerk asked me if it was gassed up, I said yes and said , ok, your final bill will be emailed to you. Under my contract for my storage unit it states that I would have 24/7 access to my storage unit. While moving last night I ended up getting locked out and could not get back in using my key code after 10 pm. The whole reason I chose U Haul and this particular storage was because it states 24/7 access. I tried to reach the GM with the cell phone number left at the site and it went to voice-mail. I then contacted the 1 800 number and they were not able to remotely let me in. I booked the storage room at the same time that I booked my moving truck (one way rental). I am happy that the first month's rental is free, but that is about as far as my happiness goes as related to the storage use experience. The office for the storage facility is approximately 10 miles from the storage facility itself. So, I decided to use the on-line check in instead of driving so far out of my way to confirm the rental. There was nothing evident in the on-line system or at the facility that discussed how I needed to go about signing into the facility. I needed to put in my unit # and a code into the security panel, and then I could enter the facility by using a separate panel. This is far from evident when a new renter comes to the facility. It took me quite a while to figure out how to get in. Better instructions should be evident at the facility. My unit was as far away from the entrance as it could possibly be, even though several open units were closer to the entrance. I would hope that U-Haul would reserve the closer units first therefore giving people easier access to their unit, and making customers happy.MARK N. | Online Move In

Bugs were found in our unit and the staff admitted there was an issue with bugs because of a new tenant. Through my move with U-Haul, everything was great until we got to try to find and get help about the storage unit. We spent over 2 hours trying to find out where to do the first initial check-in. Every time I called the 800 number no one knew what to tell me. Finally, my friend said we're going to a human being. We did find the right place and everything worked out. But if it wasn't for the man (God Bless Him!) who took care of us. There were no formal instructions and nobody told me I was going to an unmanned facility. Several others were very confused and alarm kept going off. It was hot inside so does not truly air-conditioned. The doors were opening and closing with nobody near them so that is not safe. Overall a horrible experience. Both units attached to any of the following info should not be billed as they were cleaned out. I called and was on hold forever and ever several times when I was locked out by a different lock because again there are no directions. Also was just on hold to let you guys know that both storage units are cleaned out only to find out that I have to do an online move out process that I don't know any information about nor did I receive instructions to do so. If the reginal manager from u-haul would not have been on site taking pictures I would still be standing there trying to figure how to rent the van. I had no ideal know one worked at this location. I downloaded the app set-up account etc etc, then it tells me to go to the desk to resole the issue, turns out, there is no desk. they somehow were able to have the van released so i get the van. I really would rather rent the van from a live person and the number on the van and building takes 30-40min to talk with someone, its a nation wide number, this is no fun either. I love the U-haul facility in Port St. John , real people when i call, real people on site and very nice. It's a sad day when no customer service is available. The van was nice :-). While the staff at Rockledge was extremely helpful in getting us set up with a unit at the staffless Merritt Island location, the technology at Merritt Island itself was on the fritz -- so, not well-maintained at all -- and we were unable to access our storage unit on the day we rented it. Thank goodness we weren't actually trying to move stuff in that day, because it would've been an absolute disaster! For a staffless facility such as Merritt Island, it's essential that the tech systems be working at all times or that someone is physically present at the location when they're not. When customers can't access or store their items in the facilities during normal business hours, what exactly are we paying for? Not to mention how unsecured it seems our items would be; if someone hacked the system or broke into the building when the system was down, would UHaul even know or be able to stop them?Raegen P. | First Impressions

So not wish to say negative comments related to my issues as HOPING to find amicable resolution. I will however come back to update based on communication resolve. The PROCESS to rent was easy, the BUILDING itself very clean & looks to be well maintained. The emergancy direct to UHaul in case of --? Useless as no number access provided on actual system so unable to respond to required "prompts"? Disturbing but hopefully replacement now aware. of inadequate installed communication equipment. My experience regarding accessing unit I will optimistically hope ONLY mine, hopefully a resolve will be found as willing to give another chance in I do understand things happen and managements time limited. However I do think irregardless of my issues yet finding solution? A employee on or close enough to be available to site would rectify many assurances of solutions. Will update as occurs. As aforementioned, I will TRY to resolve my problems although to date impossible but be assured I am honest in the factual statement of very well kept, clean and the sizes seem to be available for many upcoming rental areas if needed. Hopeful in management providing a solution to my ongoing inability to access the unit rented to date? As if at all possible I think my actual storage rental should follow in positive terms given the possibilities of access terms (better than any other available within Merritt Island. The cleanliness of entire area so far and the variety of entrance needs from regular physical access to truck access which stands alone within area! Uhaul has a great "possibility" of providing exclusive options to storage seekers that are unique, and a none compete here in location! The ability to obtain online are excellent in theory? But the problems encountered in my experience need to be a TOTAL resolve in accuracies before the possibility of this storage area obtaining a flawless recommendation for others. And the useless communication devices provided that are installed FOR DIRECT CONTACT must be addressed as impossible to use as provided. Hoping that all the positive these units have will be utilized in conclusion of the impossible ability to access my unit as I am sure the situation is not only mine. Once the management office provides determination in concluding these? It has ability to be the best available on Merritt Island and I will be the first to provide sincere information & recommendation to all. I originally rented a small unit and realized after a week of moving items in that it was not going to be big enough. I called the office and was told they did not do any kind of prorated refund if I moved into a bigger unit. The rep then tried to get me to move out of the unit quickly and turn it back over before the month was up. I went online and rented bigger unit and paid the $245 right then. I began to move items in and a short time later checked my bank account. U-haul had taken the $245 out of my account three times instead of just once. This caused other payments to not go thru and I have been dealing with a mess because of it. I once again called the office and the worker was obviously distracted with another conversation but told me that it would correct itself, but to call back if it didn't. A few days later u-haul returned all three payments into my account instead of just returning two. I then started getting late notices and a charge of $15 went onto my account. Tried 6 different times to call the office and nobody every answered the phone. Finally got a hold of someone and she told me that the charge was going to be removed so I could pay the storage fee again, it was never removed. Called again yesterday and finally got the charge removed but asked to speak to a manger about what occurred with my back account. I was told he's pretty busy and probably won't have time to call. Got up this morning to see an email from the manager adding the $15 late fee back into my account again. I will use any other company besides u-haul next time I move.Susanne R. | Online Move In
