Customer service rep Philip was extremely rude when asked basic questions about the rental. Seemed bothered and had a poor attitude. The next day, when we spoke to the manager Brian, we told him of our experience with Philip and he tried to offer a $25 gift certificate which was never received. He seemed to be covering for his “buddy” instead of listening to our experience. We also had an issue with the mileage. Unfortunately, due to our bad experience with Philip, We were so frustrated that we didn’t check the mileage when We received the van. It was off by nearly 12 miles. This is my second time using u-haul; the first time was in Alexandria, VA and it was a very pleasant experience. Not sure why this time it wasn’t.

I rented an Auto Transport. The first unit they gave me was rusty and falling apart. It had loose parts and tin sheet metal structure repairs. I brought it to the attention of the clerk who was “helping” me, and he was obviously less than happy about having to re do everything. The manager said the first unit had just come back from re-work. I told him it should be condemned. I don’t think I would have bought it for $237, let alone rent it for that much. The unit I was given in replacement, while functionally satisfactory, had mud all over it. There’s a placard on the trailer that says “save money, bring it back clean” so I was thinking the whole time “I hope they don’t try to charge me for cleaning this”. This is my 2nd time renting an Auto transport from this facility. Both times, I felt the level of professionalism left a lot to be desired. The first experience (October of 2018), when I showed up at my scheduled pick up time, the front door was locked. After waiting for 15 minutes, I saw that the back door was open to the parking lot. Thinking that someone may have had some sort of emergency problem, I went around to that door. I searched the building and it was empty. I stood in the empty store for over 30 minutes waiting for someone who worked there to come to the counter. I called their business phone number a few times, and eventually got through to the manger’s cell phone. I told him I was standing in the store, and he apparently had been on the roof, helping maintenance people. When I attempted to return the trailer the 2nd time, the manager didn’t show up until about 5 minutes after the posted opening time of 8am, and then had to bring up all the computers, etc. I need an auto transport at least 2 times per year. I think I’m going to buy a trailer of my own, rather than rent from U-Haul in the future.

Get less tear resistant packing tape. The slightest nick causes your current tape to come apart leaving tangles and fragments everywhere stuck to objects. It is a roual pain.

When asked for directions to our rented truck- we were told “It’s outside in the line”. There were several “lines” and maybe 40 ish trucks. Come on, it’s not hard to take 30 seconds to walk out of the store and maybe point in the general direction of the truck. Not impressed with the customer service we encountered.

The return was not smooth - the website to perform the return was not available. I had to call customer service and explain that I could not access the uhaul websites. When I called the next day - the customer service folks could not complete the return on the phones and I had to return to the drop off location.
