I personally won't rent from UHaul again after the way that corp did me the local people was amazing. Being forced to pay someone else's bill to just rent something was not only time consuming but embarrassing. Being told I had to pay because they could tell I somehow should known someone used my info in 2018 and I should know then. We don't use a moving company often but my company and family friends will not be back. I know my money don't matter to them but it does to me. As a long time UHaul customer I requested To add a few extra miles in case of traffic jams and he neglected to do that. I also was not informed about the size of the gas tank and mpg of the truck...which means that I had no clue how much gas to replace. I ended up by over purchasing the gas. For the 3rd consecutive time, we have reserved a vehicle and either the location or the truck size were changed by UHaul. This is VERY frustrating. This last time, we were making a 300 plus mile trip. Getting changed to a larger truck resulted in considerable added expense due to the lower gas mileage.Mahlon R.

It is an extremely nice facility and cheaper than most. I unfortunately am disabled and the lockers are not accessible from the outside so you have to walk quite a ways. I was not able to move my items in and had to choose another location.Kelly W. | Online Move In

Check-in clerk was very underwhelming when we came in. Seemed like we were disturbing him from doing something else. Was not welcoming or friendly. Seemed irritated that we were asking him questions. Drop off was a nightmare. Got chased around the building by a gentleman who told me our tow dolly needed to be dropped elsewhere. We were just unloading into our storage unit. Did the same thing at drop off, waited in a non moving line, checked in online and left truck only to get yelled at again by same gentleman. I originally had a reservation in another city during their posted business hours. They were not open and I was forced to go to the location in Johnson City. A frustrating experience overall. But I eventually got the trailer I had reserved. Though it took several additional hours and required me to go to the other side of the county.Philip L.

This location was wonderful, HOWEVER, the Circle A Market on Market St in Johnson City is HORRIBLE! I had a reservation to pick up this morning and they were a no show. The phone number didn't work and I ended up having to find another location to get my rental. There is no excuse for them to be affiliated with uhaul unless this is the new way to do business.Paige G.
Customer service upon drop off was nonexistent. It wasn't until I started to put the keys in the after hours drop box was I even acknowledged. I was the only customer there even. There were over $50 in additional charges on my final statement, which are still unkown as to why. I have rented from this location multiple times and don't understand why this round's service was so poor. I would not recommend them, and will not use them in the future.Matthew M.

The concept is great. The execution was horrible. Not one single step in the pool process was handled smoothly. The inefficiency on the part of your organization, made my move more stressful than it should have been, and cost me 1 month more in rental fees than I should have had to pay. You organization is too devided, and one decision is unaware of the others processes, and unable to commu icate or interact with them. If I had not be proactive and "precorrected" your errors, who knows what would of happened. For the most part ( with the exception of the store manager in Florence SC)your people were pleasant, and tried to help. But apparantly your systems and /or processes won't allow them to. Considering you are in the business of helping people through one of life's most stressful events, you really need to fix things.Diane F.

All employees at the big Johnson City location on Roan are absolutely awesome! The cleaning lady involved herself in a situation without all the facts that she had no business in, and upset my wife. Later that day, she was rude to my wife again as I was singlehandedly unloading a 26' truck. My wife has had cancer, chemo, and multiple surgeries, so she is limited on how much she can help me. I told the cleaning lady to leave my wife alone and stick to cleaning. She yelled back at me so I went to the office. The day manager took her side and defended her and was not the least bit interested in all the facts, only what the cleaning lady had told her. I told the manager Judy I would report the whole place to corporate. Later, Judy came out to the truck and attempted to smooth things over, but when I tried again to tell her the details of what actually occured, she said, "I didn't come out here to hear all that". So she was only interested in the appearance of an apology, not any actual or real remorse or concern for what transpired.TIMOTHY A.

Dealt with the manager Judy. She was like a breath of fresh air after very negative, costly,and unprofessional experience we had at facilities in Bristol on State St..We.made a reservation for a storage unit in a.m. of Sunday at Bristol facility . After a 40 mile trip we found that the storage facility was closed for the day. Why did your agent not know about closure? All others we spoke to on phone after arriving in Bristol were able to see it was closed on their computers. We were told to call Johnson City facility where we were properly taken care of by Judy. Their were several customers in Bristol in same situation as us and many who were locked out of their units. Considering trailer rental was $340 and we went 40 miles out of our way not to mention we had our helpers drive to Bristol then to JC at my expense plus fuel this became a very expensive unload. We had to call JC to inquire about storage units available as all your agents told us we would have to wait until Monday the 23rd as they could not help us. This all cost me $200 dollars in paid labor and fuel. Had to be done Sunday as everyone had to work Monday. This was $200 I didn't have to spend if there were competent people representing your company making reservations and troubleshooting when there were problems not caused by customer.JOSEPH S. | First Impressions

It was a difficult check-in. Units that were on the system as "open" were in fact occupied. We tried three times before we located a unit that was both open on the system, and really was open. On my order I stated we were going to pull a trailer. When I went to hook up , the trailer plug didn't work. I tried the trailer on another vehicle and they worked ok. No discount on the rental When they did my paperwork. They said it was full of fuel. When I got in the truck It was only 3/4 full. The veteran in front of me received a veteran discount I asked for one I was denied I then purchased insurance I was told that the insurance doesn't cover the top 18 inches of the vehicle which was not explained to me when I purchased the insurance also I stood in the store for over 10 minutes waiting for customer service nobody was in the store I had to go outside and find somebody to come in and help me and the other three customers in the store waiting to be served horrible service lack of people lack of communication lack of understanding policy giving one veteran a discount not giving another veteran then they told me it was because we donate to the wounded warrior program while I was in the wounded warrior program for over a year and I still didn't receive a discountPhillip A.

I won't be renting from U-Haul again . I was charged a cleaning fee. I only put a very clean bedroom suite in . Nothing was put dirty in it . When I rented I rented blankets. It had blankets unfolded in so I didn't fold the blankets because they were not folded when I picked it up. I did not drive through any mud so what was the clean up charge for.WAYNE B.

The location is nice and has everything a large UHaul location would expect to have. My issues were not with the vehicle or location, it was with booking a vehicle. I booked a cargo-van originally. I was then called and left a voicemail telling me I could pick that in Kingsport, TN (not where I booked it for). I called back and then was told I could get a 10' truck at the Johnson City Location, next day. I show up to the store that evening to confirm I would get the 10' truck the next day and we were told we were not a â€œconfirmed or assignedâ€ reservation and that someone else had that truck under their name. This is all after I had seen my account updated with the 10' truck ready for pickup the next day. The individual who helmed me that evening said they were able to take care of it and I should have a 10' truck for me the next day. Now the day of pickup, I show up 20 min early and am told that the location does not have a truck for me and that their would not be one until the next day. After explaining my timeline of communication with UHaul, the staff pointed out they still have cargo vans to use and I could revive that. The whole issue was a circle of communication and double booking by U Haul that almost cost us even being able to rent a vehicle for the day. We ended up taking extra trips that the 10' truck would have helped with limiting resulting in more millage to pay for. The staff was gracious and rewarded us with a few perks that created a discount on the overall rental, which was greatly appreciated. Overall, I like using UHaul, this experience of being told one thing and then not having those items in stock, even though listed on the website as available, has made me more cautious when renting in the future. Again, overall, thankful to have a vehicle to move that day.Nicholas F.

All the phone numbers take you to an automated system that is very frustrating. I'm all for streamlining things that a customer should be able to get in touch with the local facility. The attitude from all 4 employees was horrible. Every question I asked was to hard for them to give an answer. They were repeatedly rude. Acted as if I was being a bother. On a different issue, I drove the truck for 25 miles. Put 3.4 gallons of fuel in it. Was told it wasn't back to the original level. Was charged another 4 gallons. I never drove it over 40mph. How can it take 7.4 gallons for only 25 miles? I didn't take a photo of the fuel hand when I started, but probably should've.Chadrick P.
I moved into the unit on a Saturday, which was a nightmare as there weren't enough carts and my party and I ended up having to wait almost an hour before another group was finished before we could even unload our truck that was rented. That was super frustrating as the carts were taken from someone else that had finished when we were trying to unload one cart upstairs and the party had gotten there after us. We were rented a ground floor unit that wasn't available and in a size not available on any floor. So we were given two units on a different floor. I did not like the situation with the lighting. Where as the building had Light in many areas the lights only came on by motion detection but did not stay on. This resulted in the lights going off out numerous times when working in my unit, resulting in leaving my unit several times to walk into the sensor area to get the lights to come back. This is an extreme negative. Another negative is not being able to access power outlet. Occasionally I needed to be able to use outlet for a few minutes. all of the electrical plug in units were extremely far apart and too high to reach which rendered Impossible to use for the average person. May I suggest that you put a timer on the electrical outlets to limit the time that people could use those and change your lighting situation that people did not have to continue to walk into the center to turn their lights back on. I've rented storage in many places and I have never had an issue with the lighting as I do at the U-Haul. And most all places have plug-ins within a distance that you could use a small extension cord to use it for a short period of time.Caroline G. | Overall Experience

The only reason for 3 stars vs 5 is that I reserved a storage unit that was not climate controlled, however when I went to check in they only had climate controlled units available, which have a higher rental price. I wish the website would have let me know there weren't the lower priced units available instead of allowing me to reserve one. I was not really able to say no to the higher price as I had a moving truck parked outside with all of my belongings in it. I am giving a poor rating because nothing about the reservation I made was given to me upon move in. I reserved a large unit on the first floor, only to be told that they did not have anymore of these. I was given two small units instead which suffice it are not what I originally RESERVED. I was also told through my receipt and reservation confirmation that I would not need to pay anything until 6/25 because of my reservation for a UHAUL truck on July 10th (move into the unit on 5/25). Upon arrival I was told to pay the full price for a month when I was told that booking a UHAUL truck would allow me to receive one month free of storage. The facility is nice and the staff was fine but I was extremely mislead and disappointed with the outcome and its difference from what I received information about in my confirmation of booking.Alison D. | First Impressions

I was happy at first and when we were trying to finish our unpacking and move in we were locked out with no one willing to help. I had to leave my unit open unattended all night with unknown access by anyone who has 24 hour access . The 24 help number placed at the site is useless as no one answers it . And even customer service couldn't help they even said it says store at your own risk so that if we didn't camp out in front of the door we weren't getting in before 7 am even though thw posted accessible hours are 5 am thru 10 pm . Very poor customer service and even worse we might have lost our possessions and it was humorous to the people at customer service. Even though there were endless empty units, we were given one upstairs in the very back farthest corner. There is no lighting inside the units. When I arrived and informed them that I didn't think my stuff would fit in the unit I had reserved, I was not offered a larger unit, but was instead required to pay for the 5x10 beside my unit. The tiny elevator will not stay open long enough to load more than one cart, and after pushing it open twice, it forces itself closed. This is a major safety hazard that I intend to report to the State of Tennessee. The back entrance door closest to our third unit would never unlock. I voiced my concerns to a male worker who did not respond or care. I filed a complaint with corporate who never followed up. We planned on long term storage, so we moved our stuff down the street to Storagemax. We are very frequent uhaul customers but this terrible experience has turned me away.Zachary R. | Overall Experience

I was stuck as far back as you could possibly go on the second floor while there were hundreds of empty units closer to the door. People are allowed to park directly in front of the front door so you have to maneuver around their cars while going down the curb. I dropped several items doings this and ruined an air compressor. The facility was well lit but the individual units were not and it was difficult to see within the unit. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating. The only negative interaction was when we were just finishing moving out. We did not get a name, but the lady that was showing people around was rather abrupt and informed us we could not park where we were for loading- although it was marked as a loading zone. We had been there for 5 hours the day before and 3 hours the final day. No one had indicated that there was a problem with what we were doing. She also was not able to offer any other location that would be acceptable for loading a large trailer. Fantastic, friendly, and above all, helpful as we finished a multi-state move that had gone not at all according to our schedule. Mr. Hawkins was a great help in getting us in the right unit, and the facility looks great. Bit of a long walk to get to our unit, but let's be honest - after a crazy move during a global pandemic, is a little walk really worth complaining about?
